Kathy, Sunday night. BEAT YOU TO THAT ONE HIWAY29!!!! I believe there's only one left and the last place I saw him.. he was in the hospital. sudo
-
Hiway29, I'm amazed at the kinds of stuff you can remember. Tuesday night? Following McHale's Navy? I wonder who might need hints. Maybe even kathy herself? I guess Tuesday night was WWll night, huh? sudo

Kathy, Re:"Sudo, don't despair dear man." Aww... that's sweet, Kathy but I'm not despairing. Uh, is that a legit word?? The problem with this thread is that I've run out of stuff to keep enough people interested. My fault plain and simple. When I started this thread (Has it really been six years ago, Pirate?) I thought it would run the course of most threads.. a few pages at best. But it caught on for people who remembered the 50's, 60's and 70's. We've had lots of people posting but Wasway, Bluzeman and yourself have all lost interest. Yes. Its sad. Now we have George trying a different tact with pictures. Kudos for him. What do you think about starting all over with TV themes that we used 6 years ago but may be new to newbies here? I could do that. It just might be a little boring because 6 years ago getting audio on-line was high tech.... and today we expect video. sudo P.S. George.... I have no clue as to the similarities but I recognize Wonder Woman and John Forsythe.

This guy, Artie, gets tired of working so hard and not getting anywhere, and seeing all these guys in the Mafia in their fine three piece suits and fancy cars, decides that he has to join the Mafia. He goes up to one of the guys and says, "I want to join the Mafia." The guy answers, " You ever kill any one for money?" Artie answers, "No." The guy says, " Well, you either got to be born into the mafia, or you gotta kill somebody for money." So Artie says, " How much will you pay me?" The guy says, " I'm not gonna pay you." Artie says, " C'mon, just pay me a dollar so I can get in." The guy says, " Okay, I'll tell you what. You kill somebody, tell me about it, and if I see it in the morning paper, I'll pay you a dollar." Artie says, " Oh thank you, thank you!" and heads off on his mission. He goes to Safeway Supermarket, sees an old lady pushing a cart, and decides that she's lived a full life, goes up to her, grabs her round the neck and chokes her to death. The bag boy sees him, and chases after him. Artie realizes that he can't out run the bag boy, turns around, grabs the bag boy by the neck and chokes him to death. In the morning paper the headlines read, " ARTIE CHOKES TWO FOR A DOLLAR AT SAFEWAY" sudo

Hiway29, Re:"I was enjoying it, though not as much as you. I was impressed with the whole production, but found the melodramatic acting not exactly my cup of tea." I respect you for that. I don't agree and have never heard any critic lambast GTW (in the top 5 of all 'best movie lists') for containing melodramatic acting but.. your opinion is your opinion. But I keep saying guys.. you HAVE TO SIT THROUGH THE ENTIRE THING. It would be like taking a 20 minute break during Citizen Kane and then saying the movie was ho-hum. Yeah.. I'm a little disappointed. Let someone else post something. I post something and tell folks what they have to do to savor it and .... aw forget it. sudo

Ex-70's, I agree. I've never understood the passion of hunters. I like to eat meat but I don't like to kill pretty animals. I don't have any problem swatting mosquitos or killing ants etc. But stalking and then killing a deer? Or waiting in a duck blind to kill ducks coming down to the decoy? I've never seen the "sport" in that and the killing is distasteful. It should be done humanely and quickly. Many times an animal is merely wounded, runs back into the woods and then takes days to die an agonizing death. Like I said.. where's the "sport" in that? But arm them critters and now there's sport. Or go off grizzly bear hunting with just a .22 rifle. LOTS of sport there, huh? Yeah, I'd be OK with that. sudo

Its over now :) sudo

Hiway29, Yes.. its on right now on TCM. So since you've never seen it from the beginning all the way through.. what do you mean by taking the time to post here? Tired of waiting for a commercial?? sudo
-
Ca_Dreaming, EXCELLENT clue!! I wish you had been with us in the beginning. You've got a flair for this and BTW.. its obvious you know what the tune is... and its not Lassie. Hee-hee! Good guess, though George! sudo

Sushi, Naw.. no clue. Doesn't sound like it would qualify for Nostalgia, though. This one would, I think . Click HERE! sudo

Hiway29, Re:"Am I the only one mourning the death of this once proud thread ?" I miss doing it too but we were generating hardly any interest in what I was posting. Originally, it was the "TV Nostalgia" thread way back on WayDale. I had come into a collection of TV theme songs that were in WAV format. I learned how to edit them and then post them. It was a lot of fun back then. I'd post the theme song to say, McHale's Navy and see who remembered it. There were 100's of TV shows that we did. And it wasn't just me posting them either. Wasway and Bluzeman were doing it right along with me for several years. We taught several posters how to download, format, upload to http servers and then link to them themselves. Folks like ChattyKathy, Krysillis, Cowgirl etc. But then.. we had posted all the TV theme songs. And even did them again. It was getting boring for folks so we started posting anything "nostalgic" like old 60's pop songs. That was fun for a while but participation kept dropping. I started posting clips from old movies but by then we were down to like 3 people. I decided I wasn't going to spend hours editing, uploading and linking when hardly anybody was tuning in. But, you know, Hiway29.. if you have some ideas about how to generate some interest here, I'll listen. It is kinda' sad what has become of the Nostalgia thread. Check out the stats.. it still has the highest number of posts sudo

Dot, You DO know that EVERYBODY loves you here. Now, if you could just put a good word in for ME from time to time. :) sudo

Free, Re:"I am not young. I am on my way to the big 50, will be 44 in a couple of months." Well aren't you the old hag? You were in the 1st grade when I graduated high school lassie and belive it or not.. you're a youngster. You want drama? Ever seen Moulan Rouge where a man falls in love with a prostitute? Here's the dramatic video that shows that a man can be as devestated as a woman. I am a romantic myself. I hope you like tangos. So sensuous. Give a it a minute. ... sudo
-
Free, Not much I can offer you other than my heartfelt sympathy. But I have always wondered why it is that women are so attracted to and fall in love with the 'wild side' kind of men. I guess the bald pot bellied accountant types aren't as exciting. Same thing with men. They don't go for the dowdy menopausal women who would make good wives either do they? Naw.. they want their wives to look like Britney Spears (or however you spell her name) and cook like Rachael Ray. Actually, she doesn't look half bad herself, huh? Boils down to this, Free... You've been deceived and lied to. But you're young and will love again. Learn your lessons and don't make the same mistakes again. I see your pic and you're good looking. You'll have no problems finding men interested in you. sudo

Vegan, Re:"I especially loved how the ducks shot around the hunters to frighten them off, not to hurt or kill." And here I was thinking that they were just lousy marksmen! sudo
-
Doojable, Aww.. that's sweet about your kids. How old are they? And yeah.. Ductape is showing his age because he's right. Harry Chapin. Uh, now did I spell that correctly?? sudo
-
Vegan, Remember how you laughed and laughed about that "duck decoy" I posted a while back? Well, someone sent this to me in e-mail and you were the first person I thought of. I think you'll like it. sudo (who has never been a big fan of hunting anyways)

I've always been afraid of Polar bears. Seems that up on the ice these bears eat people and anything else that moves as opposed to little black bears that generally shy away from humans. Probably silly of me having any fear of dangerous animals. If I just had my believing in line I could safely walk through a valley of ,say, Cobra snakes just safely. And while we're at it.. let me drink some of that poisoned Kool-Aid. I've got my believing.. fear is nothing more than sand in the machinery of life is it not? A work of the Devil I tell you. Fear not the Bible sez!! sudo (thinking even the apostles would be, uh, cautious in our inner cities)

Hey! this was sent to me by an Asian lady who used to work for me!! Anyone remember who did the original song? I think I'll go order out some "Chinese". sudo

Tannis, I can't even imagine your loss and what you are feeling. But we here at the Greasespot are pretty good at emotional support. You know about how I knew David. I still think about him a lot of days. Oh, how things were so great when we were young 30 years ago. Why don't you stick around and strike up some friendships? We'd *ALL* love to hear your perspectives. sudo

I know I'm probably wasting my time posting this but.. I couldn't understand until last week why it was that there were so many suicide bombers in Iraq that were willing to give their lives in exchange for murdering fellow Iraqis with slightly different religious beliefs. Mostly its the Sunnis who blow themselves up killing Shiites. But I couldn't understand why they would do this. Oh, I could understand suicide bombers targeting Americans because the Americans were the invaders (in their minds anyways) but committing suicide to blow up fellow Iraqis? I just couldn't understand it. But it became clear to me when I read last week that Sunnis consider Shiites to be infidels. They base it on interpretations of the Koran and Apostolic succession. And true believers will give their lives for the true faith. Then it all made sense. In this thread we're talking about catechisms, purgatory, Limbo (I am a little curious what became of that belief), Eucharists and whatever. I know this will probably change no one's mind but look at the evidence. If you believe religious dogmas then there's a good chance *you are in a cult*. It could be the Roman Catholic cult or the Church Of The Living Lord Pentecostal Church Of God In Christ cult which believes that only members of the Church Of The Living Lord Pentecostal Church Of God In Christ go to Heaven. Do you know what they call a cult that lasts at least 100 years? A new religion!!! Be happy folks. Believe what you want. I won't mind until you start killing the heretics again. Hey! We got any Salem witch decendents here that want to be absolved?? Mark might be able to find us a form for that, too. You know how the sins of the fathers are passed down (what was it? 7 generations?) So a 'get out of purgatory' form might come in handy. Probably just a venial sin, though. Venial sin. As opposed to what? Mortal sins? Hee-hee! One day some of you guys might see some humor in this nonsense. sudo

Kathy, Seeing a movie should be an enjoyable time. At least for movies that are made for entertainment. I can see where certain documentaries or educational movies don't have to be enjoyable but they weren't made to be. Gone With The Wind and Doctor Zhivago were produced by major Hollywood studios to make a buck. Its perfectly OK to not watch a movie if you aren't enjoying it, IMO. My wife loves the movies Dirty Dancing and South Pacific fer instance and I can hardly make myself sit through them. Some folks like Chocolate and others would prefer vanilla. So if you aren't getting into Gone With The Wind, that's OK with me. But it is in the top 5 of *my* all time favorite movies, personally. I watch it from time to time. Let me caution you about something you probably already know, its a very long film with an intermission. So if you watch it on TV that has commercials, they are going to cut it to death. Man that irks me when they do that That's why (as a matter of principle) I'll never watch a movie on commercial TV. I love the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) station, though. They always show their movies unedited. And for any Sons of the Desert reading this post.. I just recorded Laurel and Hardy's Way Out West on TCM and will be watching it again this weekend. I love the little dance number they do in it. They didn't usually do musical sketches. sudo
-
Kathy, I was re-reading what you posted and somehow I think something went over my head. Did you mean to say that you had sat down and tried to watch Gone With The Wind but couldn't make it through it? Did you think it just dragged on? sudo
