  1. Belle, Yeah can 'ya believe it? Henry Winkler (the Fonze) as Scrooge? This version was set in America during the Great Depression and instead of Scrooge they called him Benedict Slade.. but look at the make-up work. He was actually quite the actor and very convincing, IMO. sudo
  2. So many to choose from!! I love watching the various versions of A Christmas Carol. The 1951 version with Alistair Sim has the highest critical acclaim but I loved the 1938 version first. Actually.. the version with Henry Winkler (Fonzie from Happy Days) was pretty good, too!! I love seeing Scrooge redeemed. sudo
  3. FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: November 01, 2007 RE: Christmas Party I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 22, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00pm. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Patty FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: November 02, 2007 RE: Holiday Party In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to any other Day. There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now? Happy Holidays to you and your family. Patty FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: November 03, 2007 RE: Holiday Party Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on A table that reads,” AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy. NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED. FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director To: All Employees DATE: November 04, 2007 RE: Holiday Party What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party- or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit Farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have To sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be Flower arrangement for the gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross-dressing allowed though. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest for those people with high blood pressure to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry! Did I miss anything?!?!? Patty FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All F...ing Employees DATE: November 05, 2007 RE: The Freaking Holiday Party Vegetarian pricks! I've had it with you people!!! We're going To keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as You so quaintly put it, and you'll get your freaking salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! I hope you all have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die, The B*tch from HELL!!!!!!!! FROM: Joan Bishop, Acting Human Resources Director DATE: November 06, 2007 RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy Recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay. Happy Holiday. sudo

    Clean Joke...

Time for a new clean joke I was thinking. So here's one about a preacher which is always good fodder for the mill.... A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years before. Because of their hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel. So, the husband left Minneapolis and flew to Florida on Friday, and his wife was flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel, and unlike years ago, there was a computer in his room, and he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without noticing his error, sent the email to the wrong address. Meanwhile...somewhere in Houston a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a Minister who was called home to glory after suffering a heart attack. The widow decided to check her email, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and then fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and then glanced up and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife Date: Friday, October 13 Subject: I have Arrived! Dearest Love: I know you are surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now, and you are allowed to send email to your loved ones. I have just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow, and look forward to seeing you then. Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. PS ...... Sure is freaking hot down here!! sudo
  5. Dang! They did take down those videos didn't they? I wonder if they were getting complaints from the hotels? But like Linda said.. now that I think about it, I can't recall ever seeing glasses on the house cleaning carts. Yeeeeech!!!!!! sudo
  6. Belle, We're giving hints here now. The movie takes place in Russia in the early 20th century.. during the pogroms against the Jews there. The scene I posted was my favorite but here's one that's acceptable.. its the father of the bride in the clip I posted. sudo
  7. Kathy, I believe you know the movie. More later after a few more responses but first for George.. You need to adjust your gamma settings.. Click HERE! if right clicking on your desktop doesn't give you video options. If this doesn't help we can do more :). sudo
  8. Whoa Polar Bear!!! And I was saying how the colors were great around here this year?? Did you take that picture?? sudo
  9. I supported only two people.. But I always considered those monies as tithe monies I would have given anyways though TWI expressly said we shouldn't do that. TWI wanted their tithe money "off the top" from their members and any help going for corps sponsorship was 'above and beyond'. I had only so much I was going to give to "the ministry" and divided it up as I saw fit. sudo
  10. Kathy, Re:"And I've become the Nostalgia thread killer so I stay away on purpose." At long last we finally find out that it is *YOU* who has been the thread killer all along. But to show how forgiving, big hearted, understanding and truly magnanimous I am.. I'll post the following for you. It brings a tear to my eye just THINKING how merciful I can be. The clip's a little dark but it IS supposed to be candlelight illumination after all. Does anyone need a little help on how to brighten up images on their computers? Anywho.. This isn't considered a cinema masterpiece by any means but this scene always seems to make me cry. And that's a big factor about how moving a movie can be, IMO. Maybe its because my children are only now becoming young adults? Oh.. and you'll need to turn your speakers up as the sound level is low for some reason. sudo
  11. Likeaneagle, We're having great colors in Tennessee this Fall. Down here, some years are better than others for colors. The view out of my office is especially spectacular this year and we can hardly work for wanting to look out the window. Our daughter at UT Knoxville called Thursday all excited as they got their first snow fall of the season. I love this time of year. Tuesday we all take off for Richmond Virginia in the mini-van and I'm really looking forward to it. sudo
  12. Belle, I'm embarrassed to tell you about where I get these clips because it makes me look OCD or something. But tell you I shall... I record movies to watch on my DVR recorder and then will copy the movie to DVD on my DVD recorder. I don't have to sit there the whole time the movie is being transfered, though. I then take the DVD to my computer and copy the entire movie to the hard drive. Now.. I use Nero Ultra, load the entire movie and then edit down to the clip I want to post.. then (are you still with me?) I export that clip, rename it and then upload it to a server. Then.. I link to it just like I did the clip of the Yankee on the stairs with Scarlett and Melanie. That's just a WHOLE lot of trouble which is why I feel funny doing it.. so few people visit this thread anymore and I feel kind of foolish doing all that for two or three responses. I've had better responses for this last one though so maybe I'll do it a little more often.... I really appreciate the old movies, songs and tunes. But it doesn't seem to be a hot item at the Greasespot. sudo

    For Music Lovers

Likeaneagle, Re:"The Scottish were actually the first ones to bring Gospel to America, as highlighted in this movie." I don't doubt you on that but the Gospel that makes me want to raise my hands, stomp my feet and carry on is more African in origin. Maybe Tom Strange has the title we would recognize?? He certainly has me pegged about "cruising down the two lane blacktop going from Memphis to Oxford... gospel music blaring, windows down, car swerving slightly as he steers with his knees, singing at the top of his lungs, clapping his hands and swaying back and forth like Ray Charles..." Knowing that some folks hate music that other folks love.. I'm posting "Walk Him Up" from the musical Purlie thinking surely there are others here who love this kind of music. Let me paint the story of what is happening: Ol' Cap'n Cotchipee the white overseer is dead. He has been a big sinner but his glorious funeral shakes the halls of Big Bethel, the black church he sought to destroy. But the saints showing no racial bias are trying to pray him into Heaven anyways "walk him up the stairs"... "Save him from the fires, Lord" etc... The beginning of this is low volume so turn your speakers up a bit. Click HERE! and like Polar Bear said about his music post... this tune doesn't REALLY get rocking until halfway in! sudo

Polar Bear, That's the nice "clap your hands" kind of Gospel song I like to listen to. I don't know a whole lot about Gospel music.. just what I like. But I know its not everyone's cup-a-tea. Are you familiar with the musical Purlie? Its an all black cast and has some good tunes in it along these lines. sudo

    Evangelist

We're talking church jokes now :) ? OK.. here's one I got in e-mail this week: It's so dry in Georgia that . . . the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling; the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water. sudo
  16. Yeah.. time for the follow up. Sweetpea saw it but I don't know about anyone else. What's in the follow up?? Why the way they look out for the health of their guests at four and five star hotels that charge $450 a night.. Click HERE! Does anyone here work in the hotel business or know anyone who does? This stuff is just incredible and I was wondering how pervasive it was in the industry. sudo
  17. Hey guys, I would have never thought this went on in Sheraton and other name brand hotels. Click HERE! I'm sure I'm not the only one disgusted but I've got a follow up for anyone's who's interested in what's going on in the TOP end hotels. sudo
  18. Geo Aar?? Your thoughts please! Whatch you guys think about that clip? Is it clear from my post how it got on YouTube?? sudo
  19. Geo, The guy DOES look like Uncle Joe doesn't he? But... its a guy named Paul Hurst. And where would you guys be without me to help out on these things, huh? He indeed is on The Internet Movie Database but you have to know his Gone With The Wind character as "yankee deserter". Click HERE! And here's the scene itself. I uploaded it to YouTube myself. And yes.. I just watched a lot of it again myself. The all time best movie that ever came out of Hollywood.... in my humble opinion, of course. sudo

    Thanksgiving stuff

Likeaneagle, I love eggnog but have never heard of gingerbread eggnog. Must be a regional thing. Ummm.. nothing says "holidays" like the smell of a turkey basting in the oven and eggnog in the glass. It helps to have snow on the ground, too. :) Did I mention that I LOVE this time of year?? sudo
  21. Kathy, Need any help on the lady? If I were to guess, I would say the picture of her I posted was taken in about 1913. She was born in 1893 and died in 1993 before she turned 100. She's an American icon that is soon being forgotten. sudo

    For Music Lovers

Is Gospel music allowed here? Here's a Gospel number that *ROCKS* IMO and its in full MP3 glorious stereo for those with good speakers! Click HERE! I've posted just the first two minutes of it but can post the whole thing in case there's any interest. sudo
  23. Kathy, Re:"I think this is the female....." I don't think so. That looks a lot like Angela Lansbury to me. But in case I'm mistaken, here *IS* a picture of the lady in my link and isn't she beautiful? I'm not sure how old she is here but she lived to be nearly 100 years old. What a life she had. But both Georges have sharp ears for the actor... here he is singing his most famous song. Click HERE! I don't think he sang in any movies other than the ones I've presented here. As I see more of his movies the more I appreciate his talent because for the longest time I thought he was just a dolt. I like that I can learn new things even in my old age. sudo
  24. Now tell us Johnny.. What's behind door number three????
  25. I'm pretty sure I've posted this movie tune before because I really like movie. It just came on TCM again a few days ago and I watched most of it again. The male singer's voice is pretty distinctive so it'll probably be easy. Click HERE! sudo
