'Twas a longing for the fair-haired youth to be but a wayfarer 'til the e'en of this life But,alas,he 'ad chosen the path less traveled, and lived a wayfer o'er a third of his life I'm not sure what Frost meant when he said 'that has been the difference'...He could not see what lay at the end of either path,as none of us can...Maybe it's our personalities that determine which path we take in our life's quests,if when we come to a fork in the road the only difference is that one is less traveled than the other... I'm reminded of Yogi Berra's "When you come to a fork in the road, take it"...Although laughed at and dismissed as a "Yogiism",his quote had a pearl of wisdom to it...It denotes that one is at least "traveling",and then suggests that when one is faced with a choice, make one and continue on....I don't know if we are all "travelers" in this life...I think I was...I've always enjoyed the journey as much,if not more, than the destination...If there is a regret about my way years,it is that I suspended my journey... Although, the more I think about it,some paths take you quite a bit out of your way before you realize you're not going where you want to and you're given the opportunity to choose another one... Late one dark wintry night, while driving to limb headquarters,I realized I missed my exit just as I was driving past it...So I figured I'd just turn around at the next exit, thinking it would only be a couple of miles...There was no place to turn around because of the snow, and as it turned out,the next exit was about 25 miles...As I was getting angrier and angrier with every mile marker I passed, thinking I was getting farther and farther from my destination,it occured to me that while I was actually distancing myself from my destination,I was really drawing closer due to the path I was now on...The next turn-around was my more immediate destination... Don't know what any of this means or if it's pertinent, but I like the general subject matter...

Garth, I agree with you,but I still like the Mars Hill reference...
-
Thanks,Mstar, I try to catch a few of those games on ESPN...I love watching ballplayers when they still have they're dreams ahead of them...

If you fart in church you gotta sit in your own pew..

...And while there may be evolution in species, there is never evolution in Geno's(pizza)...You can't breed ole' Bessie the Gurnsey cow with Mr. Ed,the brown Swiss horse and get a horsey-cow or a cowie-horse...Nawww,that's what a group of fundamentalists teach...I like to tell them "you're youngest, therefore you amount to the least"...Then they get mad at me...They said it,not me...

Tom, You could prolly do 100 pages in the political threads on all the political shenanegans that took place to bring the D-backs to Az. ...I'll credit Colangelo for making things happen, and the fact that he grew up in the sports ranks(he wasn't an independantly wealthy guy that just bought a sports team for a hobby)...But he did bully his way through some political barriers and admittedly,he mortgaged his team's future for an immediate winner...The transient,fair-weather Arizona population demands that...Now,the team has to start paying the credit-card bills, and the outlook ain't to purty...

Congrats to Greg Maddux on win number 300....Only the 22nd pitcher to achieve that milestone...Not bad for a guy whose fastball rarely,if ever, clocked at 90 mph.... Well, how many times have you heard a disgruntled baseball fan complain that they should fire the owners?...The Az. Diamondbacks did just that...Gave managing general partner Jerry Colangelo, basically the founding father of the D-backs,an "earlier retirement"....

I was at my grandson's pool party yesterday(he shoots a pretty good stick -->)for his 4th birthday...Nothing like 20 screamin' kids to keep you thinking young...I also(Bullinger) noticed, well actually it was pointed out to me,some of the mothers wearing two-piece swimsuits... Tommy, have you thought of going to Toledo and telling Loy, "I want your job"?...Back in the '80's there was a popular band called "Men Without Hats"...Tuttle and I toyed with the idea of starting a group called "Men Without Jobs"... ...And now I go bound in the spirit unto church, not knowing those things that shall befall me there...

Yep,yep.....those are the ones.... I remember once I pulled a real boner and forgot to wear 'em and it was raining pretty good...It was like I washed my feet with my socks on.... Yeah,my youngest is now 15....Where do the years go?...Now he's mom's big darling angel, and it seems just yesterday he was daddy's little squirt....
-
Shoulda listened to mom...She always told us boys to where our rubbers when it looked like rain...

Thanks,Allah proclaim and dirtyworker... Shipper, that's all good and well, but what do you want?...A holiday?...A vacation with pay?....Go ahead and grant them to yourself, you've paid your dues,man.... Letsee,Nika,I'm a grandad already(and if any of you dare call me gramps I'll conk you on the head with my cane)...You're youngest is jest a year older than my grandson and we're the same age...What's up with that?
-
Good question Satori...Now that you mention it,I wonder if the way has some sort of a re-instatement,or a 'dismark and unavoid' welcome-back-to-the-way,we-missed-you-while-you-were-out policy in place...

We grew up raising chickens, and I must say, they got along with our half-dozen or so barn cats rather famously....Come autumn,my dad would send my brother and I to go catch a couple for soup(chickens, not barncats)...We found it easier to grab them around the neck to catch them...'Til we brought one back to him already dead, then dad had to sit my brother and I down and have a little talk with us about choking our chickens....

I think we should have a rule on this thread that you can't 'slur' anybody's favorite team.... Anybody sane left out there? Johnuar, though I'm not sure I'd use the phrase 'law of believing',I think you're onto something about curses, attitudes and such...I think a losing attitude can infect a team, from the coaches down to the players, just like a winning attitude can do the same...I think that 'intangible' was illustrated well in the 7th game of the Bosox-Yankees series last year... Consider how even after the Sox got to Clemens for a 4-0 lead, they couldn't put the Yankees away...After that, the Yanks seemed to do all the right things and the Sox,the wrong ones....Torre goes to his bullpen early(using a starter,no less),to keep the Yanks in the game...Giambi,having a disappointing year, hits a couple of solo shots to make the game a little closer...Pedro is left in after his tank is empty and relinquishes the lead... Then,to me,the oddest occurence of all...You got Brett Boone in the announcer's booth, whose slugging statistics are head and shoulders above his kid little brother Aaron's,who happens to hit a walk-off extra inning homer to win the series...As a GM,who would you rather sign for your team,Brett or Aaron Boone?...Yet who was the championship series hero?...Say what one will about the Yankees buying their championships,I think there's more than just having the best ballplayers required to win championships...Maybe it is believing... On the other side of the coin,I think the Cubbies are just expecting the 'curse' to eventually vex them and then they play accordingly...Not much was mentioned of the double-play grounder that was booted by the Cubs shortstop shortly after the Bartman play.... I've always thought the Dodgers and the Cardinals were the two best franchises in the NL...They don't seem to let their teams sink to low into the depths of despair...They always seem to be in contention,or not far off...
-
Oh,shuttup,Johniam... It was sickening to see the Cubs pee all over themselves against the Cards....If I was Dusty Baker,I would bench LaTroy Hawkins for at least a week(unless,of course,he lost a loved one or something),rather than have him pitch the next day...His tantrum was so little-league he should be treated like a kid...While it's obvious the guy was frustrated about giving up a couple of 9th inning homers, you have to question the guy's confidence right now...I thought the same thing when Mark Prior was waving his arms angrily when that fan interfered with that foul ball in last year's playoffs....Prior looked like a pitcher who was desperately struggling to get outs, and should have been yanked right then...Anywho,that's my armchair managing for the day.. I'll still root for the Chisox this year as well as the stRangers, not only 'cuz I like Tom,but I like the job Buck's doing there...The Cubs are done as far as the Cardinals are concerned...they better start thinking wild card....
-
Thank you for asking,Nika... I attended the Living Vicariously Weekend in Chicago...What difference does it make how I got there?....The important think is I got to Chicago...Oh-I did see the Cubs get shut out for the second time this season...this time in Milwaukee...The Cubs offense was so boring that by the fifth inning I found myself vicariously packing boxes in Nika's basement....

Are these fonts getting smaller?...Is somebody playing with my head,here?...This place blows my freakin' mind and you know it TJenkinson....

I just got new reading specs and I thought that's what was different here...
-
Raf, I didn't spend much time,if any, reading that thread...so I really didn't know if you were fer er agin' it...Mainly,I think I wanted to point out that the members more or less make up the "committees",and not the moderaters...
-
Raf, It's the same committee that determined the why for of the "Why I reject Jesus Christ" thread....
-
Good point,Zixar.. This is where I think our major differences lay...This site is over-run with anti-social behaviour...That's one of the cool quirks about the internet,I guess...I don't believe anti-social behaviour here carries the same consequences as the same behaviour in a bar or an actual cafe....In that respect,I guess I'm a little more tolerant..
-
As much as I am tempted,I will not anal-yse an anal-ogy of a death to stubbing a big toe...
-
Forgive me,Zixar... With Laleo I said "perhaps" and "maybe" hopefully to encourage her to explain her own motives...With you, I guess I jumped to a conclusion as to how you could post so callously regarding a real-life death experience...
-
Zixar, I thought I was more making observations than anal-ysing somebody's motives...Would you refer to Chuck differently if he was a real member of a church you went to?...You would have zero tolerance for his anger and tantrums?... It sure seemed the way Grizzy wrote his post that one could conclude that Chuck's been hiding behind his brother's death for years...Is a death any less of a tragedy to the surviving brother because some people think he's a whiner and a big baby?
-
Grizzy, Are you saying that Chuck's brother's "recent" death was years ago?....That would certainly change things a little...
