Didn't know I was still up here in the western timezone ready to contradict everything you say didja?
  3. He's done a great job,too....I was shocked when the Indians passed the Chisox....
  4. If you're going crazy,Shipper, then act crazy...Turn the tables on them and put them on the defensive...Show up at their school hopping on a pogo-stick,wearing a fright wig,a polka-dot dress and waving a butterfly net at imaginary demons...Embarrass them at every opportunity, and they'll be so scared of your next crazy outburst, they'll start behaving like little angels...
  5. I think he'd get my vote...Didn't he play with 'Sweet' Lou Whitaker?
  6. If she married Joe LaValley would she be Lily of LaValley?....And would Joe say "Hey,guys,I just wanted to bless her...Don't you think that was big o' me?"...
  7. Lifted Up, I think you're talking to a wall on the 8th corpse thread..I think it would be more profitable for you to spend more time on the baseball thread....
  8. Johniam, I have similar trouble remembering Dal Maxville and Mike Shannon's positions... Beckert was their second baseman and was always a tough strikeout...Unfortunately for him, when he had his career year in 1971 and hit .342,Joe Torre also had his career year and hit .363,and not only won the batting title, but had 137 ribbies and won the MVP as well....Kessinger was a good shortstop, but I don't think he ever hit higher than the .270's,and rarely homered..In those days it wasn't uncommon for the starting shortstop on a lot of teams to hit below .250,as long as they were fast and good defensively...These power-hitting,lightning-quick infielders we have nowadays truly amaze me... You know,Johniam, you were talking about believing a while back...I'm sort of a stat freak...But what amazes me is when the best statistics and the actual winners don't match...Like,everybody remembers the Cubs collapse of '69...What gets me,is there is no way they should have lost the division to the Pirates in 1970...Cubs had the best starting four(remember those days?),three 100 RBI men,and a "million dollar infield",yet only managed to win 84 games...Pirate's leading pitcher won only 15 games, and their leading RBI guy was Stargell with 85...Yet they won the division by 5 games over the Cubs...How do you explain that? Believing?...Winning(or losing)attitude? Look at the Cardinals this year...A typical series for them is: win 8-7; win 1-0; lose 8-2;win 5-4 in extra innings...How is it teams like that seem to just know how to win while some of the heretofore-mentioned teams seem to lay awake at night inventing new ways to lose?.... Well,I'm a little charged on caffienne, and felt like ranting a bit...Like they say,it's only a game...
  9. So are you all anti-Zack or pro-Zack? (Were there any Zacks in the 9th corpse?).... All right, lemme try another... When your hair falls out And you just wanna shout.....Rogaine Don't forget this fact We'll make it grow back...Rogaine She'll grow hair, she'll grow hair, she'll grow ha-air...Rogaine If you're singin' the blues 'Cuz of the hair you lose....Rogaine When your startin' to frown when you have no hair to let down...Rogaine She'll grow hair, she'll grow hair, she'll grow ha-air...Rogaine Sorry,Eric...
  10. Hey..hey..hey...That was another Simon....Kenton,I think...
  11. Well,Laleo,I do like the point about Frost keeping regret at arm's length...Living with too much regret and second guessing can lead to "garbage time",that is,just filling in a space until the clock runs down... I suppose in our way years,at the time it made more sense to think that the "all truth" could be confined to a 1611 version of God's holy word,as researched and expounded by VPW,and written and lived in the hearts of the followers of the way..I mean,if the truth wasn't there, where could we possibly begin to start looking elsewhere?...Personally,I stayed with the way until I was satisfied that I uncovered every stone they had to offer...After graduating the way corps, and admitting to myself that I had acquired NO in-depth spiritual perception and awareness,I decided I had seen enough... How am I more educated?...Well,I consider myself "handy" in my use of one of the greatest books ever written...And I'm actually proud of that...How am I wiser?...Probably in that I am no more searching for fulfillment in the pages of said book,or in teachings of the book,or in tapes of teachings of the book,or in articles about tapes of teachings of the book,or in commentaries concerning articles about tapes of teachings of the book,or in links to commentaries concerning--well,I'm sure you get the idea.... Why am I here?...Well,you asked me without giving the reasons why you were here, only the reasons you shouldn't be here...I don't know specifically, but I would certainly say it's part of my path(probably straight to hell)...I don't have a particular mission here, but for some reason I feel drawn to people that spent some time walking down that same elongated path that wore down my sandals for about a third of my life...
  12. The last Arizona team in the tournament got ousted yesterday in the regionals in California..... You're right,Johniam, there's still plenty of baseball left...This is the time of year when the ones who really want to play playoff baseball start stepping it up... So far,Mstar,Nomaah is fitting in nicely, which is to be expected..Got his first homer as a Cub,yesterday...The Cubs haven't had a good hitting shortstop since....geez,Ernie Banks...
  13. I don't know who the oddball in the tweed jacket is Laleo, but if you see him, tell him I want my punctuation back... Did I suspend my journey during my way years?...I think in mid-post I realized I did not...I like a "path" or a "road" as an apt description of life's journeys...All paths lead somewhere, and we are never truly right back where we started...Even if the paths we took were to lead us to the same fork in the road,we wouldn't be the same person the next time around...We would be older, wiser, more skeptical, perhaps more tired or less eager...Regardless,the more or less traveled roads have a different appeal the second time around... Why would our way days be an embarrassing mistake?..If,in fact, there was an ultimate purpose and truth, and it could be found hidden under the foundation of Wrigley Field had we only looked there, then yes,our time spent in the way would have been a waste...But since nobody has found "the truth",and if they did, they certainly have not been able to convince the rest of the world that they found it,I think we all follow paths that are personally fulfilling or at least seem to have the answers, until we are in our own selves convinced that it's time to take a different road... People like to use the phrase "been there, done that"...I think where we've been and what we've done makes us who we are..And as long as the way satisfied that yen we had for their "truth" for ever how long it took us to start looking elsewhere, perhaps it somehow helped shape us into the more wise and educated persons we are today...
  14. Just watched ESPN's countdown to the greatest chokes of the last 25 years...2003 Cubs #5...1986 Bosox,#1....Grrrrr.... Yeah,I've been tempted more than a few times to take a baseball bat to the tv screen when Sammy Sosa or Corey Patterson come up to bat...It's like they go up to the plate with absolutely no game plan...Uhhh,Sammy...0-2 pitch, you're probably not gonna get a belt high fastball down the middle..ADJUST YOU'RE FREAKIN' SWING!...Patterson...The ump probably would have called that 1-0 pitch that sailed over your head a ball if you hadn't swung at it...I mean,I know they're facing good pitching, but these guys look totally unprepared and clueless when they come to the plate...I don't care if they guess wrong, but at least get up there and guess, for God's sake...I don't know if any sport matches the great one-on-one mental battle between pitcher and batter...
  15. That's Ricky Nelson...You know,Ozzie and Harriet's kid....
  16. Uhhh....Who is Ricky Nelson?... Ummm,I'll take secular music in our corpse years for $500,Alex...
  17. I don't know,Steve,I usually wax philosophical...After four or five drinks I get horny... Sorry...couldn't resist...
  18. Laleo, Have I ever even insinuated the foggiest hint of a possible, tho improbable, ghost of an innuendo or notion that you may or may not be a creep? :)-->
  19. I take it they never built the glass bottomed restaurant that was to have spanned the Gunnison River... So long from B'Hai country...
  20. ...I went to a garden party To reminisce with my old friends A chance to share old memories and sing a song again If you gotta play at garden parties I wish you a lotta luck But if memories are all I have I'd rather drive a truck I don't know why I thought of that...
  21. Fortunately,my love for the game transcends how well my team is doing...Geez,between the Cubs and the White Sox,Chicago still hasn't won a championship in,what,a hundred years?...But there's nothing I enjoy more than good baseball(aside from a few personal vices)....While nothing can top a dramatic,walk-off homerun,I love a good chess match in a well managed game,heads-up baserunning,game-saving catches, watching great pitchers ply their craft against great hitters, the wonderful, relaxing atmosphere of knowing that nothing so cataclysmic has happened in the world around me that prevents me from soaking in the game....
  22. Good night 9th corpse...Meet in twigs tomorrow morning at 5:30 on the running track...Dress is casually elegant but wear your Vibram soled LEAD boots...
  23. Yes,us Cub fans feel you're pain,Mstar...Maybe that's why Red Sox fans and Cub fans are so persistant....It's like persuing a gal that never lets you,...um...er...oh,forget it...
