  1. Right....The only reason you need to bring binoculars to a baseball game....
  2. Fellowshipper???...Where you from, boy??? Oklahoma??? You come all the way from Oklahoma just to .... me off???
  3. I'm on the top of the world Looking down on creation And the only explanation I can find Is the love that I found Ever since you've been around You almost put me at the top of the world Was that Gwen or Karen Carpenter?
  4. How the hell do the Cubs expect to go anywhere in the playoffs, much less get there, when they can't beat The Little Sisters of the Poor,AKA,the Montreal Expos,in a three game series?...They're playing like they're not quite sure they want the pressure of being in the playoffs... Bosox are hot...'Stros are sizzling...I can't stand the bums, but they've taken the lead on the Cubs in the NL wild card and are playing like they want to be in the post-season... Bosox only two back...I'd love to see them at the top of the AL East... Yeah,I loved those days when they had doubleheaders(remember the twi-night doubleheader?)...Cubs used to have to start their first game of a twinbill at noon so they could finish the second one by dark in the days before the lights at Wrigley....
  5. Yeah, that's all good and well, but we don't get to see any t*ts during the seventh inning stretch...
  6. Right,Steve....U.S.S. Alabama,I think,was the name of the sub...
  7. I just noticed this thread,Georgio, and I think it's a good topic...In theory,I don't think there's anything wrong with discipline and training a group of individuals to be united toward's a greater common goal....I'm reminded of the line that Gene Hackman said to Denzel Washington(I forgot the name of the movie)when they were on a submarine:"We follow orders,Mister...Not intuition, not gut feelings, not little angels or devils on our shoulder..." I really don't see too much of a difference in the methods used to train athletes and soldiers...Of course the ultimate goals,or purposes are not the same...Whereas a soldier is trained to defend,or to divide and conquer, an athlete will be trained to compete for a prize,..and in a team sport,an athlete should compete and train for the ultimate prize of winning... Though I was never in the military,I had often thought the first few months in the way corpse were modeled after basic training in the military, though obviously not as harsh...No outside music or media, somewhat of a breakdown of where you came from and your individuality, and a total immersion into the new purpose in life you had volunteered for... I don't know, maybe there is something "cultish" about the Marines...Though I admit,I loved the movie Full Metal Jacket,at least up to the part where that guy kills his drill sergeant... It seemed difficult to maintain one's own personality while in corpse training,as there were a lot more edicts and orders to follow,or carry out...Once graduated, and no longer subject to the threat of being kicked out,it seemed a little easier to maintain one's individuality...
  8. Is that what this is,the new sports forum?...In that case,we'll have to also keep an eye on the hole cards, the scrabble tiles, the Official Spelling Bee Dictionary, and the Official keg that Magnus Rasmussen from Norge' is trying to out-toss over Vladislav Slavatskykov from Russia....Oh.....and don't forget the puck....
  9. Hey...Can I be first??!!..Can I be first??!!..Can I be first??!!..
  10. I can't really blame the Yankees for trying to get the forfeit,'tho I didn't think it would wash either....I know all teams will play their entire 162 game schedule, unless the difficulty of a make-up,and neither team figures in the pennant or wild-card races...I know that has not always been the case, but I think you have to go back to the early 1900's to find a pennant winner that didn't do the full 154 game schedule and won by a half game or something... The Cubs will be playing 24 straight days, which is four more days than the union maximum...The players agreed to it....Their squabble with the Marlins is that on a make-up twinbill,Florida wants a day-night doubleheader so they can get two separate gate receipts...The Cubs are saying no...They want to fly to Florida, play their double-header with only a short break between games, and get the hell outa there...
  11. Are you guys still wearing your blue wristband?
  12. I know they were Yankees...Mike Keckich and Fritz Peterson?...
  13. I don't know if I'll be around here ten years from now....
  14. Don't know if I wanna talk to you #4000 post thief :D-->... I agreed w/ the ump's judgment,Green forced the second baseman to misplay the ball to avoid colliding with him... I wonder if that 22-0 loss will play into the Yankees psyche....Seems like they bounced back...
  15. You dirty bastard...Get your a$$ back up there on the baseball thread or someplace...Dammit,what in the hell are you doing up this time of the night?...I thought I had #4000 all to myself...I'm telling Pawtucket on you and gonna have all your posts deleted....I hope your Cleveland Indians die and rot like pigs in hell...
  16. ...No,the game was called after the 22 run mercy rule.... Thanks for putting Max's pic up Mstar, but it still doesn't ring a bell.. There was almost a trade years ago:Ron Santo for Reggie Smith...Reggie thought he was worth more and Santo never wanted to leave Chicago...Santo was a diabetic, and he recently told a story of when the Cubs were losing by a run with two outs in the 9th,nobody on,Billy Williams up to bat,and he's in the on-deck circle and he starts getting an insulin attack-or whatever it's called...He's praying for Williams to hurry and make the last out so he could get to the clubhouse and take his insulin....Williams somehow gets on base and Santo has to bat...He didn't even see the first pitch,he just swung as hard as he could and hit it out of the park...He barely made it around the bases, and while everybody is smacking him and congratulating him,all he could think of was getting to the clubhouse... Hey Lifted, they had one of those runner interference calls in the Dodgers-D'backs game tonight...Shawn Green never actually came in contact with the ball or the fielder, but the fielder missed the ball trying to avoid running into Green...My son and I argued about the ump's call all the way home...
  17. Tommy, that was a sheep farm that stunk up Wierwille road to high heaven...During my morning run I made sure I told them all "I love ewes,girls"...
  18. I remember working bless patrol late one night my first year in-residence...After three months of no tv,radio, newspapers, and doing scripture retemories, teachings, and generally nothing but Bible,I'd about had,it and was seriously thinking of leaving...My BP partner was a 7th corpse guy named John S------...For whatever reason, one or the other of us threw out the name of some obscure baseball player from the 60's,which the other acknowledged, and it set us off on three hours of swapping baseball stories, quizes, favorite players and general baseball trivia...By the time our shift was over,I thought that the world was an ok place to live in again... Every time John and I passed one another after that,we would throw out the names of the most obscure players we could think of at eachother to see if we could stump the other.... Anywho, many of the players you guys mentioned ring a bell...Tigers....Don Demeter,Jake Wood,Ike and Gates Brown...Julio Javier on the Cardinals...I can't remember if Camillo Pascual started out 8-0,for the Twins or the Indians one year...Umpires...Al Vargo,Ed Barlick,Augie Donatelli...I also remember a third baseman named Joe Foy who either played for the Bosox or the Indians...But I can't for the life of me recall ever hearing the name Max Alvis...How did that name slip by me?
  19. I used to love watching you for hours,Tommy, trying to tie the smallest knot with your two fingers...just working it... So why is Stranger such a stranger?... Think we'll make it to page 200?
  20. Yeah,Linda,...Cubs,Indians,Bosox,...they could even drive a nun to drink...I remember a few years ago,I was watching Seattle jump out to like an 11-0 lead against the Tribe on ESPN...Indians started chipping away at the lead...Then our little "Xman" buddy called me 'cuz he was at the game, left early, and when he heard on the radio the Tribe was making a comeback tried to get back in the stadium, but couldn't...I think it ended up where the Indians overcame the biggest deficit in AL history to win a ball game... I'm glad that Thome is at least playing for an old NL team....He wouldn't look right in some west coast uniform...
  21. It's alive!....Yeah,Lifted,just like the old Sports Illustrated Curse....Put a surprise team or player on the cover, and right after that their season goes down the toilet...Geez,what happened?...One week they're tied w/ the Twinkies, the next week they're seven games out...
  22. Since this is in the doctrinal forum, can Greek words be brought up?....Zixar,remember in PAFL,the Greek words apiethia and apiestia were mentioned to describe "those who had not not heard enough to believe, and those who heard enough, but refuse to believe"...Would you categorize PFAL grads who no longer believe in the "apiethia" category? Weirwille also said we get the English word "apathy" from "apiethia"... It seems like the only examples the Bible gave of apiethia were really "disobedience"...The Old Testament Jews,or New Testament believers, were not calling God into question, but rather God's ways...I don't see anybody here "refusing" to believe because they're pursuing filthy lucre,or the lusts of the flesh,or earthly treasures or they don't like the results they've gotten...It almost seems like some of those who don't believe are in the "apiestia" category...That is,even though we all have a decent Bible background,we may not actually know enough about God to believe..I hope I didn't butcher the Greek spellings..
  23. Wipe that shi t-eatin' grin off your face....I'm the one suffering from 'post' traumatic stress disorder...
  24. My father wasn't a poster so I can't blame it on heredity...Although my kids call me a "happy poster"...not like some abusive posters... For a while I tried posting while not online and just became a "dry poster"...
  25. My name is simonz------- and I had been clean and post-free for 48 hours 'til I fell off the wagon,today....Sometimes life's so damn unfair...Why can't I be a social poster like other people?...Sometimes I post just to forget about my problems..Or,after working hard,I reward myself by posting, because I think I deserve it...I don't understand how some people can have just two or three posts and walk away...I keep posting 'til I stagger off to bed all bleary-eyed... However,my posting has never caused me to lose my job....And I never post on my laptop when I drive...I wonder if my posting has caused me to neglect my family...Although,sometimes I think they drive me to post....Has anybody else ever told somebody something while posting, that they regretted the next day?...Does posting really kill brain cells?...I hear it also makes your liver swell("Hey,how's your liver?"...."Swell!") With apologies to George Thorogood: I post alone... Yeahhh, with nobody else... You know when I post alone... I prefer to be by myself... Thanks for listening...Anybody got a smoke?
