  1. All right,Linda...Next time you warn me before I spew my can of Squirt all over the monitor....Oh....And I sent Hallmark your 9th corps post....They said for you not to call them, they'll call you....
  2. Galen,I always thought it was pronounced 'herass-ment until the Clarence Thomas hearings when he was appointed to the Supreme Court and Anita Hill acused him of sexual 'hair'es ment...I thought the politicions deliberately changed the pronunciation so they wouldn't be heard on tv saying 'herass' all day..."Ummmmm,Mr. Thomas, did you grab her a$$ when you harassed her?"
  3. Supposedly,it's two days after Jesus' birthday....Did you ever wonder what Jesus was like when he was two days old,or two years,or twelve?....Did he have colic?...Go through the "terrible twos"?...When he was rough-housing with his brothers did he knock over a pitcher containing two or three firkins apiece?...Did he sit in his high chair and throw his lentil soup all over the floor?...Did he sneak out at night and take the family donkey for a joyride?...I wonder if he ever put his sandals on the wrong feet...Maybe we're just not supposed to know these things....
  4. Sometimes it seems only the good die young...Reggie White was a good man...He lived what he believed in...May he rest in peace...
  5. Happy Chrismas to all of you...Still got time for some last minute shopping...I wish I were the Santa I know to be....
  6. Happy Christmas eve... We used to go to Milwaukee county stadium every so often,...we actually lived closer to there than Wrigley, but being nursed in baseball by the Cubs,....it's hard to forsake your baseball mother...Tho,I was a die-hard Packer fan... Interestingly,it would take us about 40 minutes to get within a couple of miles of County Stadium, and then another 45 minutes to an hour to get to the parking lot from there...When we went to see the Cubs play the Brewers there last summer,it was the same thing at the new Miller Park, which was in the same general location as County Stadium...That is why,I think,"tailgaiting" became such a ritual and so famous in Milwaukee,...borne out of necessity....Rather then head to the ballpark after supper, and deal with the long delays outside the stadium,it was more convenient to head to the park after work and bring your supper with you, which usually ended up being beer and brats, and just cook out in the parking lot... I saw the Chisox play the Brewers there in the '70's,when Wilbur Wood, overworked knuckleballer extraordinaire, was 13-3 in like mid May,well on his way,it seemed to a thirty or forty win season(he was starting every three days and even won both ends of a doubleheader)...Wood lost that game, and his season nosedived after that(damn Brewers)...He ended up being 24-17 that year...I always liked him and Phil Neikro, the last two guys to win 20 and lose 20 in the same season...
  7. Yeeeeaaahhh....Got it.... That seems like,as Fellowshipper would say,a literal translation according to abusage....
  8. Tuttle,...eschewer of evil and lover of strawberries, you make me laugh and cry... Yeah, that old boxtail, with the broken gas guage and no odometer...the stars guiding us at night and the mile markers telling us when to gas up...A six-pack of Old Milwaukee, and hey,it just doesn't get any better than that... Peace and safety to your soul this holiday season....Og and Eggnog...
  9. Yeah,I know what I said about Sosa's bat and painkillers, but you said so yourself that baseball is one of those love/hate relationships...See how you people are?...Blaming the victim.... I guess I just don't see Sammy as the team leader....Maybe that's the Cubs problem...They tried to make him the heart and soul of the team, when in reality, while he has the most potent bat,and can show lots of enthusiasm,I don't know if he really has it upstairs to lead the team...Plus,his English ain't so good...Ok,my bad... I saw him up close last spring during workouts and he is a hulk...He almost isn't natural looking...I have a photograph of Ted Kluszewski when he played for the Redlegs in Cincy, where he's showing off his big arms for the camera(he used to have to cut his uniform shirt sleeves to get his arms through them)and the muscle-tone difference between him and Sosa is like night and day...Maybe it is his friends at Balco.... I've been looking at a book called 'Take Me Out To The Ballpark' by Josh Levanthal...Nothing really brainy about it,but it's got great photographs and history of ballparks ,past and present,as well as many from the minor and Negro Leagues....I had to look up what Lifted Up mentioned about there being a Wrigley Field in Los Angeles...Same owner...The Hollywood Stars played there in the '50's(The first and only team,I think,to wear shorts as part of their baseball uniform, and The Los Angeles Angels in '60 and '61,with those ugly halos on top of their hats...They also filmed the old 'Home Run Derby there, which will still air once in a while on ESPN Classic...
  10. How's my posting? Dial 1-800--E-A-T--S-H-I-T . Sorry, got too close to a bumper sticker today.... Well,I hope all you wonderful people have the finest Christmas ever...May you and your loved ones be more loving to one another, and you and your hated ones be less hateful to eachother...
  11. Too bad I'm busy on Christmas,Shifter,...else I'd help you move....or at least let you use my truck...Maybe one of your old limb leaders won't be busy on that day....
  12. The Dodgers nixed the three-way deal between them, the D-backs,and the Yankees that would have brought Randy Johnson to the Yanks...ESPN said that according to the Dodgers, the deal 'was never on the commisioner's table, waiting his approval'...LA never felt like it was getting enough out of the three-way deal... It also looks like the Cubs are shopping Sosa...I never was one to like to play winter-time general manager...I like to wait 'til the season starts and see how the hand plays out...In some ways,Sosa had a real rotten year in a rather illustrious career, and maybe he could put last year behind him...I just don't know if he could do it with the Cubs,or w/o a little 'help from his friends'....
  13. All right,I'll let you try it this one time but promise me you won't inhale....
  14. Never wanted to send your kids to a Muslim school,Mark? I know the Catholic schools on their own have been accepting non-Catholics for some time now...I don't think they're required to go Mass, but they do go to the religion classes... I would think that 'open enrollment' would be a requirement if it's a government paid vouchered charter school...
  15. One question I would have is if charter schools would be required to have open enrollment...In other words, could a protestant go to a Catholic charter school,a non-Muslim(infidel)go to a Muslim school,a white kid to a black charter school?....
  16. Mark, I'm sure each state does it differently, but the way charter schools are "publicly funded" is usually through vouchers for each student...When they passed the voucher law in Arizona a few years ago,it was something like $500 per month per student...That ended up being what the usual tuition was for charter schools...Now,if the Islamic Relief Fund was financed by U.S. dollars, then it would truly be a publicly funded school... The difference,I think, between a 'charter school' and a 'private school'is there will be more requirements of a charter school, since in effect, the gov't is paying the tuition through vouchers, whereas a private school doesn't have to meet certain gov't criteria because the tuition is privately paid... In Arizona, the people voted for school vouchers for charter schools because they were fed up w/ the public school system...I think the only hand the government plays in them is that they meet certain minimum education standards...Otherwise, they are given the lattitude to emphasise all kinds of specialties in their curicullums, like fine arts, religion, etc. ...
  17. Bread of deceit is sweet unto the scornful, but afterward his mouth shall be filled with gravel....
  18. "In the big inning...In the big inning---yeah,...I like that...Wait!...I have to create the heavens and the earth first, else where will they play baseball?" God.
  19. "There is a lion without!! There is a lion without!!"
  20. Well,we'll jes' hafta get ol' stRanger a snowcone...Hopefully a Ranger Red one...
  21. Az. Republic says all that's pending are the players physicals....I think it's time for Randy to move on...The love fest is over...But hey,he brought the D-backs a Cy Young,a championship, and a perfect game...What more do they want after less than a decade of existence?....I'm glad to be able to see Greg Counsell play every day...He is like the consummate ball player,IMO... I wish the D-backs would spend more energy marketing to their young baseball fans, and building their team around young players that will spend most of their careers with the team...Boston had guys like Teddy,Yaz,and others to keep you going through the lean years....Cubs had Williams,Santo and Banks....Nowadays,there's so many mercenary ballplayers that move around every two-three years that you wonder what uniform they'll be wearing if they get in the hall of fame... Like ten years from now, will RJ be remembered as a Mariner,a D-back or a Yankee?...I'm sure you'll always think of Schilling as a Red Sox(Red Sock?)but he really spent most of his career w/ Philly...I guess my point is,free agency is a good thing, but these expansion teams like Florida and the D-backs,who built their teams mostly on free agents are not doing their part to develop fan loyalty among the young fans...Anyway,that's some of my morning baseball babbling...
