  1. Or you shoulda gotten a Corvair...Oh,wait,Nader(I mean,God) didn't like those,either...
  2. It's official....Sosa to the Orioles...Cubs got Hairston and a couple of minor leaguers...They also signed Jeremy Burnitz...Thanks for some good memories,Sammy...Good luck with the O's and stay clean! ;)-->
  3. Hey,mom, how come this thing won't wiggle itself like my toes do? Flaccid??...What does that mean?
  4. I don't think you could physically fit 15 people in the back of a Ford F-250,Jack...I think this thing was some military surplus vehicle that the way purchased and may have been originally a multi-use vehical...I've never seen it,but I would be kind of curious as to what type of truck it was...
  5. Good for you,Shaz....You should have been ordained...you even spelled vehicle correctly...I'll have to brush up on my scrabblegrams.... You know,I would be interested to know what the corpse trainers,or the students for that matter, had in mind regarding objective #1 "Acquire an in-depth spiritual perception and awareness"...It seemed like I got a D- or an F+ in that category...I fully expected that to mean how to get more revelation, that God's "still small voice" would be clearer to me than anything my own reason would tell me... I would say the corpse program only delivered on the last four of the five objectives...It was as if you were kept busy "studying the word",physically training, practicing believing(yeah, right) and going forth as a worker, but what about the "in-depth spiritual perception and awareness"?....Don't worry, that will come later...just keep doing the other four... In a sense,I think that was the most deceptive part of the program...Somehow,by doing all these physical things,we could learn to "reach up into Daddy's cookie jar" and come down with a cookie...I guess I never quite learned how to reach.. Just what does it mean to be "spiritually aware"?...Count the devils when you walk into a room?....Or if it's messy, percieve that it's spiritually 'dark"?...Maybe you don't buy that Ford Pinto because God(and Ralph Nader) calls it the "barbecue that seats four"...And what is spiritually perceptive?...Lessee,this guy shows up drunk every night,so he must have the spirit of leviathon,or whatever it's called...What to do?...I don't want to preach on the negatives of drinking,he may tell me more about alcoholism than I'll ever know...Should I "minister" to him?....Nope....No revelation... I thought I might even be called on to "please stand and bring forth a word of knowledge"...I guess that 'magic' of spiritual perception and awareness was something I was looking for,and the way corpse offered it and nobody else did...
  6. Excie interpreted that objective as "A case of oil, making your '65 Impala, the vehical of communication of the Word,as vital as possible"...
  7. It's hard to believe I still remember the corpse objectives,or principals,or whatever they were called....You are referring to #3...."Physical training, making your physical body, the vehical of communication of the Word,as vital as possible"... I don't think in and of itself,it was a bad objective,really...."Believing" is only mentioned in objective #4 "Practice believing,to bring material abundance to you and the ministry",although it was certainly used to get folks to push their physical limitations... There was a phrase tossed around quite often in those days...something like "run with reckless abandon"....We applied it in lots of situations...probably in many we should not have....I took it to mean that I shouldn't worry about negative consequences when I "walked out on my believing"....
  8. Charles was the only rider to my memory, who stayed on the bull for the full eight seconds....When he finally fell off,as he was raising his hands in celebration the bull came from behind, picked him up by his rear end and flipped him about 15 feet in the air...Afterward,Charles wondered aloud just where in the hell the rodeo clown was....
  9. Amazing is right...I saw Bill Curtis do a tv show about these guys a couple of weeks ago with my brother and we both thought they were some good looking women...We thought any one of them singly would be just fine, provided she had a good job,of course....
  10. Nothing profound about what you jest said,Tuttle....Just playin' with a new toy...
  11. Skyrider, The way wasn't the only company to test people like that, and it wasn't just for the men...I heard of an outfit that wanted to test company loyalty for the new female CEO they planned to appoint....Of the three finalists, they instructed each to take a pistol,go in the next room and kill their husband if they wanted the job...The first finalist, who was about 30,handed the gun back to them and said "no way,you can keep your job"...The second one, about 40,went in the room, returned about a minute later, and said "I'm sorry,I just can't do it"...The third finalist,a fifty year old, went in and returned about ten minutes later saying "sorry it took so long..Some idiot put blanks in the gun and I had to strangle the s.o.b. to death"....
  12. Maybe what I'm seeing here is that the way boldly made it known what they thought was God's specific will for our lives, then turned and ran when his "hedge of protection" failed us....
  13. WB,I'm sure a police report was filed, and it would be difficult to cover up driver error in a one vehical crash...And the driver was employed by the way..But I agree,it was probably announced to as few people as possible to thwart any ideas that may lead to an internal investigation of the way's practices..and so the victims themselves wouldn't sue the way for negligence...
  14. Oldies, I have also been sued for negligence in my contracting business...It's not a pretty thing...In court you have to prove negligence to place liability,at least financially....There's no financial gain in suing the individual driver, but there is in the company he works for... I won't get into the argument about how much blame lies with the trustees etal. ...I know we're not talking about suing here, but rather Godly or,maybe (un)Godly responsibility and cover up...
  15. I went LEAD twice, and I'm glad I did...although I think it should have been on a volunteer basis rather than required of all corps.... I had already graduated by this time, and I heard most of this stuff publically(to the corpse) shortly after it happened sans all the names....Of course, the responsibility,or blaming stopped with the LEAD staff and the 'believing' of the victims... We had an old school bus to transport the people down to the hitch-hiking spot when I went...which was probably safer...
  16. I wasn't involved in that clique,George...In fact, the 9th corpse was full of cliques...Us'n's here at gs were the only ones left over after everybody joined their cliques...So,we're kind of a cliqueless clique with no clique to cling to but our own clique... All I remember about the ice cream bowl is that there was a steakhouse in Emporia that you could get that softserve ice cream for ten cents a bowl...Often,many of us would jog over there and fill up a huge bowl of ice cream until the manager complained to Craig,or somebody, that the intent of the ten cent ice cream was to provide desert for paying,steak-eating customers, not starving way college students...Craig was very cross when he chided the participants at mealtime....
  17. Be patient,George....HCW is probably posting in shorter increments so people like me with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder don't space out in mid-post and click on a new topic....
  18. Well,GSG,...one story I remember about our dear brother Don,God rest his soul... There was about a couple hundred of us sleeping in the male corpse tents at the rock, which is where I think our beloved Az. sherrif,Joe Arpaio got the idea for his famous "tent city jail"...Anywho,Don was about 20 cots away, and as his manner was,was filling the air with his rapid-fire snoring....He sounded like a prisoner trying to hacksaw his way out of the jail bars...I couldn't hear it all,but somebody must have woke him up and said "you're snoring loud"...I just heard him lash out in the darkness something like "well, what in the hell do you want me to do about it?...I gotta sleep too"....About 10 seconds later, the snoring resumed....
  19. Actually, that pic looks more like you're striking a pose for the cover of "Life Is Tremendous",by Charlie "T" Jones,a book worked so diligently Rev.Tuttle himself,...sold at a way bookstore near you...
  20. Yeah,...road trip!....Have fun and bring your snow tires... I'm sure the tragedies are fewer and farther between(hopefully)but the stories can be intriguing....Baseball,like other sports,I suppose, can emotionally take you to the mountaintop, but can also dump you off into the depths of despair....Usually,like life, there's always another game tomorrow,or next year, but unfortunately for some, for whatever reason,'tomorrow',or 'next year' never came... It's sad to think that for some, after having overcome all other odds just to 'make it' professionally as a ballplayer, they haven't been able to live with their failures,or limitations,in their life after baseball... My lasting image of Eric Show was a picture of him in the newspaper being mobbed by Cub players after hitting Andre Dawson in the face with a pitch...One player even quipped "baseball is basically a non-contact sport...unless Eric Show is on the mound"...Here's hoping he rests in peace...
  21. Don't matter...It's dress-down Friday,or "casually elegant",so don your jungle dress, sing along, and put your mind in another place besides work....
  22. A-weem-a whip,...a-weem-a whip,...a-weem-a whip,...a-weem-a whip,....a-weem-a whip,....a-weem-a whip,...a-weem-a whip,...a-weem-a whip....(EVERYBODY SING ALONG!!)....Hush,my darling,don't fear,my darling,the lion sleeps tonight.....Weeeeeeeeeeeee-deeee-de-de-deeee-dum-dum-di-daaa
  23. I like when we're on a new page 'cuz then I don't have to worry if my posts interpret themselves in the context or where they've been used before...Just read what's written...if it's wrong,I'll tell you...It's all about the Greek word orthotomounta,or the 'right cutting'...We get the English words "orthodontist(right NIKA?),and "orthopedic" and "Glenn Orth" from this word... And now a little sleep,a little slumber for there is a lion without....
  24. Yeah, poor Donnie Moore committed suicide some time after giving up...what was it...a three run homer to Dave Henderson in the top of the 9th with the Angels ahead in the game 5-3 and the series 2-1?...It's a shame because all these guys knew was baseball up til that time in their lives...And when you feel like the biggest goat that ever disappointed a crowd,or even an entire city,...doing something you love, what's left?...You going to want to coach your kid's little league team,or ever read the sports pages again?....Probably not for a while... I remember a sportswriter talking about the '86 series saying what happened to Boston should not happen to a baseball team or a city...All the reasonings in the world don't explain the undeserved anguish,or disappointment suffered by an entire team and it's fandom....But I guess that's why baseball is a lot like life...There isn't always a reason we get disappointed,or hurt...it just happens... BTW,I remember a few years ago,Eric Show, who pitched for the Padres in the '80's,was found dead in a park or someplace of 'natural causes'...The papers said he started developing some strange political beliefs and was acting pretty wierd in his last few years....Do you know anything about him?...
