  1. Thank you,Howard Cosell...Wasn't it '88 when Kirk Gibson hit that pinch hit homer when he was limping?
  2. Yeah, the Cubs usually are agressive at the plate...don't know how to work the count...Michael Barrett just stuck one in the ivy...welcome to Wrigley....I've kinda liked the atmosphere of the game...Almost like a beer league game...I just answered the phone and missed that "3-unassisted,hit for Patterson"...It's wierd that a batter gets awarded a hit and the firstbaseman a putout on the same play...
  3. He's vintage Maddux,today...Hitting his corners,fielding well,no big innings...and I sure am feeling goooood... 11-2....I'll Fedex you a couple...
  4. 7-1 now, with Maddux on the mound...I was at the dentist this morning...so I'm lethargically and painlessly enjoying the game on WGN...with a little help from some codeine...
  5. Well, there you go mstar...Just when I thought I'd kicked my post-a-day habit, you gotta bring up interleague play...Why not send Raf a carton of smokes while you're at it?... Bosox and Cubbies square off at that Holy Ground, known to most as Wrigley Field,at 11:30 Arizona time...Should be a prelude to the World Series,...for the year 3005... I kinda like the interleague play, although,a lot of the problems with it would be solved if the AL would simply get rid of the designated hitter altogether...I don't necessarily want to see Matt Clement bat again, but it might be cool to see Bronson Arroyo trying to dig in against Carlos Zambrano with runners on the corners and two outs....
  6. That sounds good,excie..You and the other women can make homemade vegemite sandwiches by the seashore while the men go fishing with Jesus, learning to be fishers of men, drinking our Foster's and new wine, and sharing fully with you wonderful weeemen, like Treeesha,in most holy communion, after you cook and clean the fish..
  7. Galen, where are you getting your financing where you put no money down?...Does it have to be owner/occupied,like HUD,or something like that?...Out here, most investment properties, including 'seller financing' usually want 20% down..Even if you get the seller to carry the 20% down payment and a bank to finance the rest, you're left with two payments:the primary new mortgage and the seller carry-back,which could exceed the rents...Plus,I've found that interest rates are higher for second properties, unless,of course, you can show the lender that you really don't need the loan in the first place...
  8. Hey,you're welcome,mstar...Don't get me wrong,I thought there was nothing more riveting than the whole world watching the Red Sox come back and beat the Yankees and win the championship last year...I just miss those summer weeknight(or in the case of Wrigley, weekdays),spontanious "let's go to the ballgame" plans when you could walk up to the window, buy a good, cheap ticket and enjoy yourself without planning months in advance or cancelling your summer vacation...
  9. Yeah, the corporate suits sure got their ugly claws into America's pastime...Nothing I hate worse than when they call baseball a "product" rather than a game...Frankly,I hope the damn thing loses mainstream popularity big time...Then maybe salaries will go down,Kraft foods will look for a new venue, steroids and ballooning statistics will be a distant memory, and tickets and parking will once again be affordable to the true-blue fans...
  10. I think that opening post is a classic example of the mindset of how the "flock" of way followers were kept at bay on money issues...As I recall,it wasn't until the **** hit the fan after POP,and everybody in the ministry was questioning everything about the ministry, that some specific questions were answered...I remember in the late eighties, when asked about the way losing $$$ in the stock market,Craig's response was "Well,we take in a lot of money..What do you want us to do,put it in a sock?".. As far as books and such, the trustees and legal beagles would have to accomplish two things...Maintain the non-profit status of TWI,in which,I suppose, they would be accountable to the IRS...I do remember times when their non-profit status was challenged...The other would be in showing accountability to the followers,or "tithers"..Just because the IRS might be satisfied of the way's non-profit status, wouldn't mean the follower's would be pleased at how their abundant sharing dollar was being spent, hence, the intimidation... I'm sure the Ambassador I airplane, the motorcoach, the Harleys, the chalets and maybe even Tick's dogfood were considered legitimate expenses as far as non-profit status were concerned...But the believer's may not have been very thrilled if they knew too much of their abs was spent on such things.. As a side note, most non-profit religious organizations give money to missionary programs, food banks, homeless shelters etc. ..The way long held the philosophy of "We don't give men fish,we teach them how to fish",which means, they didn't spend any of their extra cash on frivolous things like food, clothing and shelter for the needy..They had to spend their money internally, under the guise that it was "being "spent to move the Word over the world"...That part was probably difficult to explain to the IRS,but most of us followers bought into it,unless,of course,we didn't...then Jerry Corrodi would set us straight...
  11. Anybody still here?...Got tired of seeing excie's name next to "NHL Hockey" at the top of the sport's section...
  12. Ye men and women of greasespot, and all ye that dwell at the 9th corpse thread, why stand you gazing into the heavens?...This same Fellowshipper whom you see rise into the heavens shall return unto you as king of queens and lord of swords...Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost...
  13. Fellowshipper....You ain't got jack, you no help me... Can you guys still recite the books of the Bible in order?...How about naming the twelve apostles?...Were there any Christian etiquette retemory verses?...I like the King James version of the dust-colored Bible...'Cuz,after all,if it was good enough for the apostle Paul,it should be good enough for the rest of us...
  14. You know,if Dr. Weirwille,Craig and George Jess were really walking with the Father and Rufus Mosley, bless his soul, when they set up the corpse program, they would have made us all enlist in the Corpse Reserves for twenty years after graduating...Then every year for two weeks,we would all have to quit our jobs, buy a $200 jalopy, drag our kids and wooden spoons to Emporia, and receive more training in the whole Word,so as to be able to teach others (also)...We'd only have to beg for a few hundred dollars worth of sponsorship,we'd stay abreast of ministry protocol, and who knows, maybe a few more of us would have gotten ordained by now...Their loss,I guess...Oh wait,...maybe that's what the ROA and corpse week was for...I wanna ride to Emporia in excie's '65 Impala...I've got an extra case of oil I'd like to share...
  15. Dana King, noted trucker for Jesus, with God as his co-pilot,dropped in the other day...I think he made a wrong turn on his way to Washington state...He didn't send his greetings,so I'll have to cover for him...He's as hale and hearty as ever, although,I should mention that he's thinking of getting a new peter built(sp)...
  16. Well,my son's high school baseball season came to a screeching halt today...He played up with varsity for the regionals, and we were ousted today with a 17-3 pounding...He did pretty well,actually..Only gave up a field goal...First two pitchers each gave up a touchdown... So far it looks like the Cards are playing good baseball(beat Cincy the other day with a seven-run ninth inning rally),as are the D-backs,Chisox and the Orioles...in spite of having Sosa in the line-up...Cubs are looking more like the Cubbies every day...
  17. Boy,there's no telling what back-alley threads that these Limeys who drive on the wrong side of the road will end up in...Don't worry,Tref,as Howard Allen used to say "Ain't no friends here at the way, just strange people we haven't met yet"...or something like that... When I was in the corpse,I don't know that I cared much for the Brits,or the Welsh,or the Irish,...but I did like the Scotch...Who was it that said "I like my women blond and my Johnny Walker Red?"...
  18. The good thing about having ADD is people can change the subject on you all the time and you never know it.... Boy,what got into the Chisox?..15-4 and I haven't seen Frank Thomas' name in any of the box scores...You wonder sometimes what effect a superstar with padded stats has on the overall record of a team...We talked about this before with A-rod...It's still too early for me to get excited about anything, other than just enjoying the game... Btw,does anybody else besides me have an opinion on the league that wins the all-star game having home-field advantage in the World Series?
  19. I have checked with a few versions of the Basketball Encyclopedia in the past just for grins(I even looked up "Moonlight" Graham from "Field of Dreams" in the Baseball Encyclopedia)and there are stats and rosters of the Sheboygan Redskins of that era back when it was the NBL,or something like that, but I have never seen the name Wierwille as a member of that team...Maybe he meant that he invented the personal foul...
  20. Why do popes have to be so old?...Isn't,who is it now,Pope Benedict, like 75 years old?...I guess since it's like a lifetime appointment, you don't want somebody too young who could turn into a emporer,or something...
  21. So we're talking homers here?...Is that as in home town boys or moonshots?...Hey,hiway,glad to have you here,as long as it has anything to do with baseball,we'll give a listen... This has got to be the lowest point in poor Nomah's life...I'm serious...Batting third on a good hitting ballclub like the Cubs...Manager believes in you, even though you're only hitting about .165,...How can it get any worse?...Pull a groin muscle, and get carried off the field on a stretcher, after ominously hitting into a double-play....Now he's out 2-3 months...Didn't we say before, mstar, baseball can be cruel?...Good thing it's a long season... I haven't been following pro ball too much...Highschool ball is zapping too much of my baseball energy...When your kid's on the field, you analyze every pitch,...or movement on the field, then another dad analyzes your analysis, and a third dad will add color to his analysis of your analysis, and all the while another dad is analyzing the whole purpose of highschool baseball, because his kid's not getting enough playing time...When it gets too thick,I hit the ringer on my phone and act like my stockbroker or bookie is calling and I have to go walk away and handle business...Who was it that said we live vicariously through our sons,anyhow?...Excathedra?...What does she know about baseball?... Anyway, highway,I'm always glad to hear about other clubs,...there's too many to follow all of them...And right about now,if you're a Dodger fan,you should have the lead in bragging rights....
  22. It's great,Nika....I've really enjoyed my Living Vicariously Weekend...sports page in hand...Jon Miller and Joe Morgan doing play-by-play of the Braves-Phillies game on 'Sunday Night Baseball'...no three-piece suit or KJV w/ notes scribbled all over...I tell you,all I needed was a can of Old Milwaukee and "it wouldn't get any better than this"....
  23. I didn't think that whole thing was a big deal at all,Mstar...I have to admit,as a fan,I think the last thing on my mind would be taking a swipe at a guy chasing a live ball, but if it was like a White Sox-Twins game,I doubt it would have been so blown out of proportion.. On a lighter note,I see Steinbrenner is really ....ed about the Yanks 4-8 start...My God,you would think it's a Yankee birthright to be in first place or something..It's still too early yet to tell who's going to be good and who is simply off to a good start...Like,I don't think the Marlins will be able to keep up with their pace of complete games that their pichers have been throwing...Nomah...Where are you?...You're wearing a Cub uniform...batting third, according to the box scores...Isn't there a bat in that dugout to your liking?...
  24. Can't hepl you there,Def... Fellowshipper, you have a big heart...Besides,technically,I paid for that Sam Adams that had the winning number,or at least I suggested you order it.. Hey,Tom,that manual would be cool,...as long as there's nothing technical in it...
