quote: I'll be watching for the Johniam highlights on baseball tonight! None forthcoming. But it was a great game to see. Cards won largely thanks to 2 home runs by Mr. Albert thank you. We sat next to a guy who was an Angels fan. Didn't have the nerve to ask him if he was actually from LA, but he called Chone Figgins "Figgie" when cheering for him. Hmm. It had been frustrating. We go to one or two games a year at the most. In '05 Pujols missed a home run by a foot (foul pole) and then last year he hit 2 doubles that hit the center field wall missing home runs by 3 feet, but today we finally got to see him hit a home run. Slow start but his stats are climbing. I can't believe the Cards are playing as well as they have lately with their current starting rotation. The starter today got his first big league call up a month ago and 3 other starters were relievers last year. Kip Wells was a starter last year...and he's 2-10. I think the Cubs will win the NL Central this year. For all their troubles they have good players. If Prior can come back injury free. Who knows? Word has it that this might be LaRussa's last year in STL. He isn't ready to retire; he's just sick of the Card's cheap spending habits.

Well, I, at least, am not questioning it. I believe, like you, that it was God and Mary. I don't have a problem with God creating perfect DNA in Mary since God is the one who created it in the first place. Oops, I did it AGAIN! Well once again this is Jean not John.

Well, today (Sunday) Jean and I are going to possibly the only game we will go to all season. Cards vs Angels. Few days ago I noticed that the Angels had the best record in the majors. They've taken the first 2 games of the series, so I'm sure the Cards will try extra hard not to get swept. Good thing is, our tickets are right behind home plate a little to the 3rd base side, lower deck. I'll be wearing a tie dyed shirt (blue, yellow, and green) so when right handed batters are up (Albert Pujols, Vladimir Guerrero, hint hint) I could very well be visible in the crowd. Should be a good time.

If Christ isn't absent, then somebody tell me where he lives.

Hmm. "Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream. It is believing. It is believing." This is a drug reference? Sounds more like a plug for twi.

The word "swear" or "swearing" in the bible have nothing to do with using 4 letter words. One CAN be arrested for using some of those words in public, and some people will immediately tune you out if you use them, but doing so, in and of itself is not a "sin against God". I think using those words merely reveals seriousness from whomever is speaking. Like Geo said, I could say to my folks, "I'm depressed," and there would be all sorts of concern. At my fraternity in college, however, that wouldn't have caused an eyeblink. If I said, "P... me F...ing OFF!" on the other hand, I would have gotten some attention. I think it's ironic that in the bible to swear, or forswear thyself, means to make an oath NOT meaning what you say, yet when most adults swear (use 4 letter words) they do so because they REALLY want you to know they mean what they are saying.

Actually, I'm caught in the middle right now between the first two, and pretty much dismiss the third. I think you and Chatty Kathy made a fairly solid case for a virgin birth as well as conception, although as someone who has given birth three times, I'm not sure how it would feel if virginity was thrown into the mix. It wasn't that much fun without being a virgin, especially the first one. As far as the side issue goes, right now, I would lean to the assumption that Mary was his natural mother, since Christ is referred to as the 'Son of David' and that heritage must have come to him through Mary. That's just a preliminary thought with very little to back it up. Aw, geez, I messed up AGAIN. Sorry, guys, this is Jean, not John. I just keep forgetting to check the login space.

I still believe in absolute truth that you can know, but in TWI sometimes the problem was that people would be talking about things that really were subject to opinions as though their opinion was absolute truth. Break out the Excedrin.

Need help thinking this through: Agape? or Arrogance?

quote: I do not know what kind of music you want to play. but you could call your band Agape soul , or killer melody , the choice needs to be made by you . and no im not real anal about who said what in the threads I do not take it home at night as much as you appear to. that is to much work. I play acoustic guitar. The secular songs I can play are all pretty much from the 60s and 70s (Beatles, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Doors, etc.). I guess that's rock and roll. But tomorrow me and a friend are going to play 3 songs at the Pentecost fellowship: one written by the friend and Oh the price he paid and Last night in Galilee. I don't know what your time line in TWI was, but those last 2 songs date back to late 70s early 80s and were sung by...WOMEN. So maybe "Bitches of some sort" really IS the best name for me. Thank you again for your input. Hmm. Agape soul. Killer melody. I'm surprised you didn't say agape killer after some of our exchange. -
Need help thinking this through: Agape? or Arrogance?

quote: OKay johniam, let's talk about misusing Bible verses Please cite the Bible verses that say the following agape' cannot be practiced by those not "born again" I will save you some time, there isn't one. What you and jeaniam are very well versed at is taking a series of verses that are in some way tangentially [sic] connected to the topic at hand, extropolating with a little of your own opinions, stirring well and then presenting it as a fact which supports your position. In the absence of clear definite verses that address whether or not agape is possible for the non-Christian, you are basing your assertions that declare that agape' is not possible for non-Christians on YOUR interpretation of other verses. I really have no desire to get you to change your mind on your interpretation, however, it would be refreshing if you admitted that you are giving us your interpretation as opposed to trying to force down our throats the idea that what you are presenting is what "God said!". That was Jean that said that (I always used to wonder why Abigail and Man of 1000 screen names got switched at times; NOW I know why). My (our) pov is, in a nut shell, that Christ didn't die in vain. There are things accessible to ALL people because of Christ's finished work today that were NOT available BEFORE Pentecost. Not just love issues, but all issues of life. I can't think of any verse that says agape isn't available to all people either, but as I posted earlier, a born again believer has more spiritual ability than those who are dead in trespasses and sins, otherwise Christ died in vain. 1 John says he who has the son has life; he who has not the son has not life. Pretty clear. Do you agree that agape is superior to phileo? Do you make any distinction at all? -

quote: Okay (this is Jean, not John, right?) - I'm not tring to bait you, just debate you No, it was me. And you're right, we ARE saying the same thing. At some point discussions like this become a stalemate. I can't prove that the God I believe in exists but nobody else can prove it DOESN'T exist. I said that to George Aar and he came back with "I can't prove that Spiderman doesn't exist, either". -
That album was a crash test dummy...of sorts. Let me explain. One of my favorite rock bands from that era was Jefferson Airplane. Teens and college kids started doing LSD as early as fall of '64. Authorities were worried about this. Jefferson Airplane's first album was released in Sept. of 1966. It was supposed to include a song called 'Runnin' round the world' but that song was dropped because the lyrics included one line that said, trips, trips, trips". It wasn't even referring to drugs according to the band members, just trips, stuff people get into, THAT definition of the word, but the suits at RCA said no! Family values, ya know. We can't have you guys admitting that you do drugs. Gosh, no. So time goes on and JAs second album 'Surrealistic Pillow' was released in Feb. of 1967. The album had 2 hit singles, Somebody to Love and White Rabbit, but still no drug references. Usually, when a band has an album with hit singles on it they tour to promote it, which the Airplane did pretty much that whole calendar year. We'll think about a third album later...or will we? As already stated, the Sgt. Pepper album was released June 1st of 1967, CHOCK FULL of drug references. The suits must have been keeping their fingers crossed, at least some of them. And it sold like crazy. No more need to worry, suits, because sex sells and drugs do too. Jefferson Airplane's 3rd album, After bathing at Baxter's, was released Dec 23rd of 1967. The last date of recording for it was halloween. The songs recorded that day were a 9 minute jam called Spare chaynge and a just under 2 minute goofy song by the drummer and 2 of the engineers. Translation: come on guys, you need to fill this album up if we're going to release it by Christmas!!!! PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER!!! The last song recorded before halloween was a week before. Arguably the best song on the album, Won't you try Saturday Afternoon, was basically thrown together. Paul Kantner got all the lyrics to that song from a newspaper column about a trips festival in Golden Gate park not long before. Like I said, they were on the road the whole calendar year; they didn't have quality studio time. Marty Balin said it was the hardest thing the band had to do up to that point. The first recording done on the album was June 26th, not even one month after Sgt Pepper proved that drugs sell. The song was 'The ballad of you and me and Pooneil, which had multiple drug references. Other groups followed suit. The Stones did 'Their satanic majesties request' complete with a 3D cover also photographed by Michael Cooper, also released before Christmas. The Beach Boys did 'Smiley smiles' even the Monkees music got a little psychadelic. The Cowsills released their first single 'The rain the park and other things' in fall of '67 which had drug words in it. What a great matter a little fire kindleth, eh? Once the Sgt. Pepper album sold well, all bets were off. I'm not trying to imply that this is all evil. I still like that music. It was just suits being suits. They thought they'd be condemned by the record buying public if they allowed "drug music" even though the young people had been experimenting with drugs for more than 2 years already. Then Sgt. Pepper blazed the trail and let's get on the band wagon; we don't know how long this will last. One reason I find this all interesting is that in the advanced class we were all told that the artists themselves were the evil sold out serpent people in all this. NO! The artists used the drugs they sang about. I can respect that more than I can some heroin dealer who doesn't use the stuff himself, yet knowingly sells it to those it will hurt and kill. If anybody was "evil" it was the suits, the execs, the money people, and they were commonplace. Hindsight is 20/20, eh?

You're wrong; I've responded to other posters with the same frequency as you, even some that use (or misuse) Bible verses (templelady, etc.), and if you think I'm upset, or excited, once again, you're wrong; I have yet to break a sweat. As far as the second part of your statement goes, your language proves my point; your behavior fits into your definition of agape. You have made up a definition of agape that you don't derive from any external source, and this definition of agape justifies your behavior, thus as I said, setting up yourself as the standard. Well, I don't have to eat YOUR (or any one else's) $h!+ either. You're complaining that my behavior doesn't fit into the definition of agape that you made up, but you have nothing except emotion to back that up with. 'I don't like Jean's words or other TWI (or other Christian doctrines) so they must be wrong'. You're not reading my posts with any degree of accuracy; I have never said you were a worthless crumb just as I have never said that born-again Christians were superior to other human beings, nor that the ability to love with agape is some kind of super power the elevates the person to some kind of unique status. In fact in one post, I said exactly the opposite, so maybe you're the one who needs to calm down, stop being upset, and reread my posts for exactly what they SAY, not what you think they mean. Oops, one more time. Well, if any of you haven't figured it out yet, this is Jean, not John. -

quote: oh just to let you know I have no idea if your a man or a woman , you use words as if your a b*tch of some sort tho. I think you have an idea. I posted on another page that I am a man and I do not have ovaries. Remember? But my name is actually John. I've never met a woman whose name was John. I've met one whose name was Johnda and heard of one named Johnnie, but never John. As for the name of my rock band, I know of bands whose group, album, or song names occasionally came from direct criticism. The Guess Who's first album, Wheatfield Soul, was intended as a put down (so was the word 'Christian' if VP's right). Edgar Winter's back up band, White Trash, was his grandma's opinion of him and his friends. Chuck Berry's song 'Roll over Beethoven' was obviously a response to critics telling him that if Beethoven heard his music, he'd roll over in his grave. Criticism can be a good thing. So until this comes into better focus, I'll infer that you think my rock band's name is...the 'Bitches of some sort'. Thank you very much. -

quote: I'm saying that bible believers don't have any way to know that what they're saying is true any more than non-believers. Oh, they have a way. It's called faith. Same as the unbelievers. Take the evolution question. You need faith to believe in evolution. You weren't there; you didn't see everything unfold; all you see is the modern day scenerio. The bible believer says it got this way by one means; the evolutionist says it got this way by another means. Neither can prove it like you can prove something in a court of law. It's all faith from a human pov. -

I agree that every person is responsible for their own actions, however in regard to TWI, I witnessed to people believing those people would receive deliverance in their lives. When I stopped having any good faith belief of deliverance, I stopped witnessing, not because I stopped believing the Word (Bible) worked but because I stopped believing TWI was still teaching the rightly divided Word (Bible). I never knowingly steered people into an organisation I knew to be evil. Oh, crud, one MORE time. Dangit. I forgot AGAIN. Sorry, folks.

quote: It is a discussion forum, not a Jeaniam-said-it-so-the-discussion-is-over forum. Since you name dropped Wordwolf, maybe you should read his posts to see how he interacts with non Christians. He is never scolding or insulting, his words are not personally denigrating, yet he still stands for what he believes. Nor have I ever seen him pick out a poster to jump again and again. Interesting. You falsely accuse Jean of wanting to have the final word on a topic, then claim that she "jumps again and again" because she won't let YOU have the final word on the same topic. Nice double standard. quote: To me your reaction to a non Christian poster seems extreme, weird and rude. Also, damatic! If it continues on other threads etc, I will consider it stalking, and say so! So if anyone disagrees with you, this constitutes "stalking"? Are you aware that this is a discussion forum and not a Bramble-said-it-so-the-discussion-is-over forum? quote: All your scolding or reproof or whatever that is, doesn't make me stop. So what's the point? The point is...disagreement. quote: Maybe you should email Pawtucket to demand an affirmation of (your)faith before people can post. And you can run to hubby and tell him the evil unbeliever was mean to you. Run to your like minded believers and tell them you've been fighting in spiritual warfare. Maybe you should practice what you preach and put Jean and/or myself on ignore. -

You didn't hear? So...you were there? When it happened? Then you must be an angel or...hmm. You spew your venom like the popping of a giant zit and call yourself Christian and loving? Now THAT is laughable. quote: what did jesus talk to these men about? chapter and verse? Luke 24:27. quote: your paranoid, you really think you have somone activly trying to sabotage you? 1 Peter 5:8 - be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. So Peter was paranoid too, huh? You self righteously claim that being a follower of Jesus has nothing to do with reading a book, but what do you know about Jesus that you DIDN'T read in the bible? Hello???? What did you do? Did you look up Jesus on Wikipedia and THEN decide to be a Christian? Did you see a vision of Jesus after you ate your 4th bag of cheetos one night? Is THAT how you came to this superior knowledge? Good for you! -

quote: did ya see the romans verse about your contention that unbelievers have "no one to trip them up"? of course not . and on and on it goes when one worships the bible as an idol to be placed above what Jesus Commands . Romans is talking about reaping what you sew. That's not the same thing as having someone actively trying to sabotage you. Jesus quoted the OT 94 times in just what was recorded in the gospels. He must have worshipped the bible as an idol too, eh? In his resurrected body he appeared to 2 men with whom he walked 7 miles and beginning at Moses he expounded to the 2 men all things in the scriptures concerning himself. What a shame. Jesus not only worshipped the bible as an idol himself, but he knowingly led these 2 innocent men into the same pernicious habit. Ya THINK ya KNOW a guy. You think you know a lot more than you know (Gal 6:3). -
