Waysider: The topic is "outrageous statements in a twi meeting". Just tell me what my valuing pfal has to do with that? You're the one who's always whining about me being off topic. Tangetial my @$$!
-
Here's an outrageous statement. 1978. 1 men's way home, 2 girls' way homes. Limb leader is telling us how it IS. At one point he tells all of us, "If any one of you ever leave the way ministry, then the devil will beat the s out of you!" My wife says she has successfully used this technique as leverage in some business transactions. Let's say I'm at work and she's home getting a bid for some kind of service. She tells the bidder, "My husband said not to pay more than X dollars, sorry." She was using me as an absent, phantom, third party in order to get the bidder to modify the bid. The limb leader was using the devil in precisely the same manner. Not sure how well it worked here, however. Two of the guys in the men's way home left town a month later. Just how does one prove that the devil beat someone up? Nice.

quote: I re-read both posts, John. I don't see anything about the way JB posted that changed the essence of your post. In fact, by trimming down your statement, he was able to address that particular point, So, Waysider, you're saying that it's OK to be off topic as long as you trim down someone else's posts in order to advance your own prejudices? Must be new revelation. Wonder what would happen if I did that to any of Rascal's recent posts.
-
Sorry, can't discuss that here. Wrong thread. Must be nice that they let you be off topic but not me. You must have some special decoder ring.
-
You just made my point.

quote: You might learn well from that and adapt a similar technique yourself, instead of banging quotes into each other like so many runaway shopping carts in a crowded food market parking lot. What do shopping carts have to do with the topic here, Waysider? C'mon, stick with the topic at hand! C'mon, focus! Stay on the same page! What are you? 3 years old?

QUOTE: Johniam, as that's not about an outrageous statement in a TWI meeting, you might want to carry it on in your own personal soapbox. Naw, this time YOU do it. Let me recap for you, if you don't mind. In post #24 I posted totally on topic. Then, in post #25, Jbarrax took 4 words from my post, removed them, enlarged them, and commented on them, totally off topic. Why didn't you reprove HIM? Then I responded to his comment and, like a bull in a china shop, you pile on and say, "OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC!" So this time why don't you do a personal soapbox. Heck, you can borrow mine. Leave the porch light on when you're through, please.

quote: I've no doubt that if you said that in a real ex way gathering instead of this virtual meeting space, I'm going to a "real" exway gathering today. It's called fellowship. Been going to this particular fellowship for 6 1/2 years. Plenty of females there. Haven't been slapped yet.

quote: Johniam, seeing as how at least half of what's in PFAL has been proven to be WRONG, Proven??? LOL Allow me to translate. "Give God the praise, for we know this man is a sinner". Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know, but whereas I was blind, now I see. Still SIT, still pray and get answers, still have the hope, still fellowship with other believers, still study the word, still get edified, etc. PFAL introduced me to all that stuff and the God behind it. Just when is this "at least half" going to kick in?

Speak for yourself.

Outrageous statement? Donnie Fugit was limb leader of MO from '79-'82. Not sure when he said this, but he once said to a large group of folks... "The greatest thing that God ever did was the giving of the holy spirit on Pentecost, and the 2nd greatest thing God ever did was the PFAL class!" Don't get me wrong. I still value pfal, but yeah, that one just might be a tad hyperbolic, eh?

quote: Confusing disrespect to a sitting US President-but still being grammatically correct- is nothing like people freaking out because a man with an unaccredited degree isn't addressed by his unofficial degree. It IS grammatically correct to refer to both as "Mister", and is not incorrect. It is NOT required to insist on a title for either, and unaccredited, unofficial titles don't count for most people in just about ANY context. You may have noticed that when posting, I usually refer to him as VP. No doctor. Grammatically has nothing to do with anything; what I see as pathetic is that the only reason he is called mister here is to disrespect him. At least Michael Moore was disrespecting a guy who was alive. You're disrespecting a guy who has been dead for more than a quarter century. A guy who has no more a portion forever of anything done under the sun. THAT'S what is pathetic. If you want to disrespect what he taught? That's another matter. Every spinoff I've had exposure to has tweaked some of what he taught. As I said, VP has no more a portion. It's all out of his hands now. So much of what VP did has been written or recorded that he's fair game, just like Darwin, Hitler, Plato, pick your own. Sure, let's try his words 7 times in a furnace of earth and see what remains. We do that for everybody else. But to spitefully lash out at a guy who's been dead so long? That IS pathetic. It doesn't constitute 'trying his words'; all it does is to say to the whole world that you're in more bondage now than you were as a consenting member of a "cult". Patanswer posted that she was glad I'm here. Using different words she went on to explain (as I inferred it) that I am a poster child for what can happen to you if you drink too much of twis 'koolaid'. You don't want to end up like HIM, do you? I have no problem with that (if that's what she meant). I used to feel that I had to defend my honor when people here deliberately misrepresented me, but really, I have no honor here; never will. Just my words. So continue to try them 7 times or whatever. You ought to be glad I'm here, too. Most people like me won't touch this place with a ten foot pole. I don't know for sure that you represent the majority of all those who've left twi, but I seriously doubt it.

Reminds me of Michael Moore repeatedly calling pres. Geo W Bush "Mr. Bush" at the oscars that one year. Pathetic.

1 John 1:7b - and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 2:1 - My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not, and if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Waysider, you can dish it out, but you can't take it. quote: Don't like someone questioning Wierwille's credentials? No problem. Just pretend the conversation is somehow related to Jesus. Better yet, draw some kind of parallel between Wierwille and Jesus. But if you don't like someone questioning your conclusions, you pretend that Jesus doesn't exist, and that his finished works don't have any impact or relevance today. Good luck with that.

Fifth corps was after the zero corps. I saw Earl in a fellowship maybe 3 months ago. He and Nancy live in Virginia. Their daughter, son in law, and 3 kids live in the STL area. He was looking as summer casual as everybody else.

What God has cleansed, call not thou common.

I think Donnie Fugit was in the zero corps.

Went to Rhode Island today. 47 down 3 to go. Watched the sunrise on Blue Shutters beach near Westerly. Over all it's been a great vacation. Did 2 things in NYC: went on a 1 hour boat ride near NY harbor on the Zephyr, part of the Manhattan Circle line cruises, and saw Spiderman on broadway at the Foxwood theatre on 42nd St. near 7th Ave. That was fantastic. They had a harness set up to do aerial fight scenes right above the audience as far out as the mezanine (1st balcony). Good show. But the best part has been reconnecting with my sister. She's 14 years older than I am. I don't know her like my kids all know each other. I wasn't sure how we'd all get along, but it's been terrific. She's not a believer. It's been a fun week.

quote: But Jesus never CLAIMED to be an ordained clergyman, did he? Why claim to be the waterboy when you're the quarterback?
-
Drove all over Manhattan today. Lived out my NYC cop/taxi driver fantasy. Awesome!
-
quote: Why do people continue to call him Doctor, even though they know his doctorate was as phony as a three dollar bill? What motivates them to do that? Because not everybody is obsessed with disrespecting him as you are. To me that's like saying "You know Jesus wasn't really an ordained clergyman, don't you?" So what?

Not to go off on a tangent, but today's twi reminds me of that Clint Eastwood movie "Every which way but loose". There was a motorcycle gang in that movie, but at some point Clint put all their cycles in a dumpster/crusher of some kind and all their bikes were gone. Later in the movie the bikers bought themselves a big car, a Cadillac perhaps, that could hold all 9 of them (all 9?????? AUGHHHH!). They tried to look dignified, but they just weren't what they once were.

quote: edit: Would you say The Way: Living in Love is a fair representation of life at Int.HQ? Not now, but in 1972 it was, or at least, it was a lot closer. I've never much crossed paths with any Amish. Other than gawking at them in their electric buggies near Rome City. The Amish scenes in the movie 'Witness' (Harrison Ford, Danny Glover) portray them as passive, but not extreme. One Amish family has a booth at my area's farmer's market. We got so much rain that most of the sellers lost their tomato crop. Not the Amish family. They had plenty. One similarity between Amish and twi is...remember how VP was always saying he wanted to be totally independent of the world? He once bragged that the ROA was done with no help from unbelievers. Stuff like that. The Amish seem to want as much of their culture as possible to be under their control with no outside influences whatsoever.

quote: From my observation those that made it through the Advanced Class were not allowed to stand on their own, were not allowed to make decisions that they felt best for their own lives. There was ALWAYS more to do, their way of doing it, another level to attain another hoop to jump through. When was this?
