  5. You saw what you saw. Don't second-guess yourself. You were there. And we should expect a TWI security guy to be more reliable than you?

    Need Info!

Sure, consider everything, then test it to see if it consistantly and reliably works. Part of the problem is that there are alternative remedies out there that not only have been considered, but tested and found out to not work, but people will still swear by them. Often there is a faulty logic that underlies some alternative healing: misunderstandings about magnetic fields, tides or what have you that lead step-by-step to completely erroneous conclusions, but they sound good to someone who doesn't know any better. Granted, some "quack" remedies have turned out to work...those that do will stand up to testing and can be repeated. The laws of physics and biochemistry don't require faith, or a positive attitude.

Thomas is how my first name is listed. Frankly, I was somewhat uncomfortable about the whole registry process..."Hey, I'm getting married and I want you to buy me THIS!" :o--> Anyway, everyone is still welcome, whether you've previously said you're coming or not. We're happy, and we want other folks to share in our happiness by being there with us. 6 days... :D-->
  10. Good post, Mark. For some folks, doctrine is THE dertermining factor, for others, the way people act is the most important thing, for still others, the social/activities aspect, for some, it's a combination that varies from person to person. What to ask a pastor/minister/guru will vary and be determined by the priorities of the person seeking
  11. Goey brings up some good points. (Wierwille wasn't the first one to massage definitions to try and make the bible "fit") "Fear" is a good example. It says "fear" (or the Greek or Hebrew equivalent) - but no, it can't mean fear, because of what some other verse says.
  12. IMHO Karl gives some excellent information on early 70's Way days. His discussion of doctrines like "Athlete of the Soirit" are great. Some of the situations that he describes are spooky in how dead-on similar they are to things that I went through. His own apparent low opinion of women comes through pretty strong, though, and colors much of the perspective.
  13. Hmmm...sounds like life as a "regular believer" in the late 90's

    We Set A Date

We got our license to get married yesterday. My daughter put Tom in as "step-father" on her school forms. He took her to school this morning. He insisted on it. Tom continues to amaze and enchant me! The officiant for our wedding decided she would also do our flowers. She has been a dear friend for 11 years and is my chosen adopted Mom. Another friend is making the cake as a gift! We will be finalizing the entre's and it will be some good eat'in at the reception.
  16. Yeah, it all started in the Way Corps, but by the time I got out it had filtered down to the rank & file. When we received orders or "directives" that we felt were unreasonable, it came down to two choices: 1. Obey 2. Leave Or, I guess, a third choice existed, the one which I ordinarily chose - pretend to obey, and bide my time until the leader left and a more understanding leader came in.
  17. Mrs. Wierwille mentioned a Board of Directors in Born Again to Serve. It was apparently made up of PFAL grads, but would not be the rubber stamp body that Wierwille envisoned, so he disbanded it and formed the Board of Trustees, with his brother and his old croney Ermal Owens as his yes-men

Wow....Just two weeks and Tom and I will be married!!! Glad to hear that Donner and bowtwi will be able to attend.
  20. Al says that they're 'wiccas', not wiccans, and he's always right.
  21. Right or wrong, Wierwille was a master at getting people to believe in him. In my opinion, he did this because he could document enough of what he was teaching, especially when it differed from what the mainstream churches were teaching. Most of us were then so incensed at the "lies" of the churches that we grew up in, and dazzled by Vic's seeming proficiency with the bible, that we stopped checking for ourselves and accepted what Wierwille taught us, even when it didn't make sense. We convinced ourselves to "hold it in abeyance", sure that Wierwille had the answers and we were missing it.

Donner & Bowtwi: looking forward to seeing you two again. --> (Scout Finch - still comin'?) For those who had to back out: we'll miss you guys and gals. Oakmom says that she is looking forward to meeting some GSers.
  23. You can probably find bible verses to back up a lot of what Wierwille taught, so I guess some of it was correct. But there are so many areas where Christians disagree, even when there apparently is scripture to back up differing opinions. So, whether a lot of TWI doctrine is "correct" is in the eye of the beholder. There are also plenty of places where Wierwille (and later Martindale) distorted definitions to make words, and therefore verses, say what they wanted them to say that TWI doctrine becomes an overgrown mess that takes more than a cursory "working of the Word" to untangle.
