I knew him, I worked with him. An intensely inteligent and spiritual man. I'm sad.

There you go. I went in the Army straight out of high school. I ended up in Germany where I developed a lifelong taste for good, strong German beer. We had beer machines in the barracks in Germany and the beer was good, strong and cheap. Melville speaks of beer and Dutch whaling ships in Moby Dick: The quantity of the beer, too, is very large, 10,800 barrels. Now, as those polar fisheries could only be prosecuted in the short summer of that climate, so that the whole cruise of one of these Dutch whalemen, including the short voyage to and from the Spitzbergen sea, did not much exceed three months, say, and reckoning 30 men to each of their fleet of 180 sail, we have 5,400 Low Dutch seamen in all; therefore, I say, we have precisely two barrels of beer per man, for a twelve weeks' allowance, exclusive of his fair proportion of that ankers of gin. Now, whether these gin and beer harpooneers, so fuddled as one might fancy them to have been, were the right sort of men to stand up in a boat's head, and take good aim at flying whales; this would seem somewhat improbable. Yet they did aim at them, and hit them too. But this was very far North, be it remembered, where beer agrees well with the constitution; upon the Equator, in our southern fishery, beer would be apt to make the harpooneer sleepy at the mast-head and boozy in his boat; and grievous loss might ensue to Nantucket and New Bedford.

If I can digress back to the thread for a minute, here's a website for all the "Black Friday" sales items. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, called black because it is traditionally the first day of the year that a retail store goes into the black, profitwise. The sale prices shown on the website are *only* good on that day. Be prepared to show up early and wait in line. Good luck.

I saw the Wal-mart program too, It was the PBS Frontline show. All and all, pretty revolting. I'm going to switch to Costco from Sam's Club based on what I saw.

Yeah, but at least they had something besides a Bible to put in their new briefcase

Get to a doctor if it doesn't go away real soon. I don't mess around when it comes to brain-vision stuff and I don't think you should either.

Umm, this is not a "Christian" site if that's where you're going. It's a site of ex-members of an obscure and non-mainstream Christian group. A group, BTW, that did not believe in the relevance of the Book of Revelation to present-day believers. Did you lurch around for awhile to get the general feel of the forums before you posted? You appear to have registered over 6 months ago. I would think that if you've been reading the forums for that long, you'd know what to expect. There was nothing in your question indicating that you wanted a serious, biblical answer. That leaves it open to our somewhat cynical sense of humor. So, if you want a serious answer, you might want to rephrase the question, or ask it on the Doctrinal thread. Something like "Does anyone literally believe in The Beast in the Book of Revelation"?

I believe I heard Teresa Heinz Kerry referred to as "the beast", though it's somewhat depreciated by now.

I believe that there was at least one early collateral reading that was pulled, something on sex and relations. I doubt that there was any mention of it being in error. I was told by an early corps that it was done before VPW fully researched the subject.

How many board members are needed to change a light bulb?
Jim replied to Ham's topic in About The Way
Chas, You left out the Sunday morning staff meeting. Staff would be informed that a light bulb burned out and that this is a perfect example of the decline of Staff's heart and believing. Howard Allen would come up and tell everyone how light bulbs don't just burn out and how he was able to save 4 dollars over the last 30 years by proper care of light bulbs and believing for their long life. He proceeds to recite a long and confused story about how a worker lost 2 fingers at the mill because someone let a light bulb burn out. The head of Way Builders would come up next and explain the attention to detail that his people use in changing light bulbs and how carelessly changing light bulbs is poor stewardship of God's money. Next Linder would explain that light bulbs serve as the first line of security around TWI and that it is everyone's responsiblity to be aware of burned out light bulbs and to promptly send both him and Way Builders a memo describing when and where any burned out light bulbs are spotted. Finally, VPW would come out with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. He takes a long drag on the cigarette, looks around slowly and then tells us how he loves us all, but we've got to start showing our heart by believing or else he'll close the place down if he finds another burned out light bulb. He says that he can tell the spiritual darkness of an office or department just by noting how many lightbulbs are dark. He prays and thanks Father for softening our hearts and opening our eyes of understanding concerning burned out light bulbs, says amen and tells us (with tears in his eyes) that we're the best and that he loves us and to get to work. Anyone up for doing the Tues night Corps meeting? -
You left out the A/V dept. Joe Coulter plus a couple minions.

Radar, it's only a matter of time before you start your own business.

I was hoping something good would come of this thread. Well said.

Are You Really Ready For This Question?
Jim replied to TheSongRemainsTheSame's topic in About The Way
Of course not. -
A new doctrine? I don't know. Different motivations and goals? Yes, I'm pretty sure.

Answer a question with a question. Are you witnessing to me?

The wise and learned Research Geek posed the question "what would Jesus do" if he read the GS posts, instilling much good introspection amongest the group. As most of us have heard more of Paul's teachings (and it's all God Breathed I'm told), I'd be interested in what you think Paul would do, and why it might differ from what Jesus would do.

I was hoping the irony wouldn't be lost on you and you wouldn't just think me a smartass. I suspect that your point has something to do with the Moslem intolerance of images...

The BOD is a legally-mandated structure that the government requires for tax-exempt organizations. Nothing Godly about it. You can bet your hat that VPW would have gone it alone if it weren't for the legal requirements. Spinning it as Godly was just that, spinning it.

does THE WAY have a person of God for this our day and time ?
Jim replied to excathedra's topic in About The Way
Just answer me this... Does a dyslexic agnostic insomniac stay up all night pondering the existance of dog? -
Put a small amount of Windex on a clean soft cloth and use that. Don't spray the screen.
