Hah. I have a friend whose job involved running some sort of resonance test on submarines. He'd never tell me anything about it except that they would cover everything up when he came out to do the test. Damn. Damn. I'm impressed. I spent a little time in the engine compartments of cargo ships in my youth and have a little appreciation of the scale of things... When I was about 12, my dad took me to Bremerton to see the battleship Missouri. I think he wanted to see it as badly as I did. I got to walk on the deck and see the plaque where the Japanese surrendered. Lots of history there. Thanks for the info.

I am really, really sorry. No.

No need at all. It's not the first time I've made that sort of mistake and I appreciate you reminding me of it. Regarding the accident and "blame". I've long been interested in bad accidents and how they come about. I read Flying magazine and the first things I turn to are "Aftermath" and "On the Record". Aftermath is a detailed analysis of one particular tragic accident and On the record is several summerized accident reports from FAA records. I'm also interested in accidents because I design and sell products that can be misused. What I've learned is that virtually all horrific accidents are the result of two or three overlooked details that happened to converge on that particular day. In many cases, once the accident starts to unfold, it's too late for any corrective action. I think this is what happened to your group. Trailers are notoriously unstable in gusty conditions, the vehicle was overloaded, and by the time Kevin realized the situation was out of control, it was too late to do anything about it. The only thing else I would add is that the vehicle was totally inappropriate for the job. A couple of months ago my daughter came into my office, shaking and her face pale. She was on the freeway, following a pickup with a trailer. A gust of wind hit, the pickup and trailer fishtailed and the trailer flipped on it's side right in front of her. It was her first really close call as a driver. I am truly sorry for your pain and loss.

At first I thought it was a story about going around scavenging things out of dumpsters which, of course, I would have been very interested to read. Still a great story.

Done, sorry, didn't mean it to be offensive.

Galen, what's your guess on how long to fix it?

Damn crafty, bro.

Who is Patrick Heron?

We caught someone stealing from the horn-of-plenty after twig. He was suitably reproved.

Over the last thirty-five years I've lost some tools, a rear license plate, a 2-way radio and some more tools. At one place where I worked, a thief made a run through the building grabbing anything shiny in his path. I lost a shotgun microphone and a radio. What ....ed me off more than any of that was when some prick went down the street poking holes in tires. No reason, just being a prick. Took me the afternoon to tube the tire he punctured.

I love that picture. Thanks.

I sat through an intermediate class that he ran in his home at Natick, Ma around '74 or '75. He seemed a little cold and authoritative, but not evil. Wonder what happened?

The whole organization was designed to encourage people to progress, give their money, and become insiders. Whether any of us were truly "insiders" is another topic. I can remember clearly taking the foundational class. Shortly thereafter the "dealing with the advisery" class was run and my twig leader said I wasn't ready for it. So of course, I strived to "be ready" and move up a notch in the "insider" hiarchy of TWI.

I'm trying to work out something in my mind about when VPW started abuse/harrasment of females. Please post the date of when you *knew* he was harrassing/abusing females. You don't have to mention names.

WHAT? What a fsking foot. Unbelieveable. I mean, I don't care at all what goes on in your bedroom, we're all kinky in some way or other, but to SAY that to women...

The first time I heard him work a crowd was ROA '74. I thought he was an insufferable prick. I even felt guilty for feeling that.

Sometimes I think that Vic picked the Loy because he knew the minstry would implode. VPW thrived on power. Loy fed that thriving, but VPW must have known that Loy didn't pack the gear to keep the con going.

My back started hurting just reading the thread...

I think this is the whole issue. Paul could have been using a military metaphor or a sports metaphor. We'd understand either way. The point is that VPW would *rage* about how he would never compromise God's word. Now it looks like if he had to decide between compromising his word and God's word, he chose God's. Looking back at him holding up his bible and shouting "It's the Word, people", now has a kind of looney toon feel to it. In a somewhat perverse sense, LCW was more honest. He just fired the research department and made it up as he went along.

Can anyone recall what the stated reason was the the verses were interpreted as a sports metphor? A translation error somewhere?

Nope, never saw one. I've looked and I'm a pretty observant person. Now I did see a strange orange light that seemed to follow me across the Nevada desert late one night...

Even from the very beginning, leadership was always good at answering a question with a question and turning any criticism right back around to the bearer. Easier just to smile and say "bless you". Being a prophet Nathan to any of the TWI kings was a dangerous job.

Of course, you're right. It's been a long time. I still didn't hear anything about it.
