  1. Another Border Terrier owner, cool. Mine is 15 years old and sleeps alot, but he was hell_ on paws for his first 10 years. Great dogs, tremendous heart and character.
  2. Vickles, I've been there and done that. I'd love to hear more about your experience and abilities. That way I might have some better suggestions for you. If you don't want to post any additional information, you can PT me. If you don't want to do that, it's ok as well.

    PFAL Online?

    MAKE IT GO AWAY....
  4. Motorcycle-killers. Everybody I know that's ridden for any length of time has had a close call with a Volvo. The new ones are not that reliable and are very expensive to fix.
  5. Border Terrier is the one you want.
  6. I'd never own a Volvo.

    New Used Cars

Every time I've sold a car, I've cleaned the engine and changed the oil first. I wouldn't read much into it if the engine were clean.

    Comp Nerd Needed

Try right-clicking the form link, saving it to disk then printing it from the Acrobat reader program. Might help.

    Pension

I'd say listen to your mom. You'll be more secure financially, you'll be helping others to learn, something that's become more and more important to me as I get older, and you'll still have summers to do your own thing. I wish you the best of luck.

    New Used Cars

Another issue that hasn't been touched on is the smog check. If you live where there aren't any, then thank your stars and move along. If you do have smog checks, make sure that the sale is contingent on a pass. Even better is if you can see the report and find out how close to a fail the car is. Smog checks have just about ruined the market for drivable clunkers in most of California. OTOH, the air is nice and clean (:

    New Used Cars

Agree with Allan. I have 2 Subarus, both bought new and maintained by myself and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I would not, however buy one with 100k miles for my daughter. They are beautifully engineered cars, but they are designed way different than most and can be tricky to maintain.

Toyota. Not as popular as a Honda, but just as reliable and cheaper. A Ford/made by Mazda small pickup is good too.
  13. Agreed on the cheap shot. I live *in* the corridor that you mentioned and I've found that the greenbelt soccer-mom liberals tend to have the best trained and best mannered dogs of any group of people I've lived with with. And I'm not one of them.

    Vacation Bible School

Ok, I head out this morning and the first thing I see is a big banner at the church on the corner, "Vacation Bible School, July 11-15". It made me cringe. When I was in grade school, my parents made me go to vacation bible school and I hated it. Here you spend all the school year waiting for summer, only to be stuck in a stuffy church, wearing your best clothes for a week. Anyone else hate vacation bible school?
  15. French drains are a *good thing* and are used extensively where you have saturated soil that might slide or cause foundation problems. I suppose a ditch would work as well, but a french drain allows you to actually use the property that the drain is on and not have to maintain the ditch. If you have concerns about moisture coming up through a concrete slab, you might want to send me an email or pt me. I've had some up-close and personal experiences with it, but don't wish to talk in public due to legal entanglements.
  16. Years ago, I was on the BOD of a wastewater district, so I've seen such contracts. Compared to what the work would cost in the SF bay area, your quote is a bargain. Have you tried to get other quotes?

  18. On the contrary. I was long out of TWI, and I can't go into details to protect the innocent. It involved a drunken neighbor and talking him down from doing an exceedingly embarrassing and stupid act involving his wife and her academic friends.
  19. Sorta gives "Burn the Chaff" a new meaning...
  20. But a lot was taped, Catcup. Did you know that the EOB conference room had hidden microphones and tape recorder? And that VPW had a little concealed mic and recorder he could wear if he wanted to tape a meeting he attended? Have you ever seen the inside of Joe C's "vault" in the OSB?
  21. Incidently, in my community there was two extremely vocal critics of the BSA policy on gays. The local troops responded with an unofficial "don't ask, don't tell" policy. That still wasn't enough for the critics.
  22. Nicely done. The "New York Times" thingy doesn't quite render correctly with Mozilla/Netscape. You'll want to install Mozilla (and Opera) on your machine so you can verify your page renders properly on all of the popular browsers.
  23. It's a free country. If people disagree with the BSA's stance on gays, they have the right to protest. If a school board feels that it's in the community's best interest to not present the viewpoints of a private organization within it's wall, it's their privilege. If the community feels the school board is not working within their interest, they can recall or not reelect the members. It's a free country and I don't see a problem. I have friends that feel that the BSA is a great organization. I'm not so sure and it's not because of the gay issue.

    A Thread For Quitters

If you *need* to go off coffee, which I do periodically, taking two then one Excedrin in the morning will taper you off the caffeine nicely without the headaches.
