It would have to feature a Wowmobile and the Jackson Browne song "Running on Empty" Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-on-one I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on Running on-running on empty Running on-running blind Running on-running into the sun But I'm running behind Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own I don't know when that road turned into the road I'm on Running on-running on empty Running on-running blind Running on-running into the sun But I'm running behind Everyone I know, everywhere I go People need some reason to believe I don't know about anyone but me If it takes all night, that'll be all right If I can get you to smile before I leave Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels I look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through Looking into their eyes I see them running too Running on-running on empty Running on-running blind Running on-running into the sun But I'm running behind Honey you really tempt me You know the way you look so kind I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find Running into the sun but I'm running behind

I suppose the French will have to retaliate with powered beer.

"Convince" is putting it lightly. When I listen to it, I get the feeling they are trying to brainwash themselves and others.

Roy, I hope what I'm going to say doesn't offend you, as I think you are a passionate believer and a kind and good person. Christianity makes much of the crucifiction of Christ and how it symbolizes the love of God and Christ. Yet what of the millions of men and women of the last 2000 years that have died for others. The soldiers that died for their country or their buddies. The women that died in childbirth. Most of these people were recognized with little more than their names chiseled on a piece of granite and the memories of their families. Why are we to hold Christ up as so much more important than the common folk who sacrificed their lives for us?

It was all I could do to hold my water until the end.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me. -Emo Philips

It's easier for the government to clean up a filthy slaughterhouse than a filthy religion.

What Rocky said. Ask them how to contact your local Legal Aid Society. It's a group of lawyers that give pro bono help to people that can't afford it.

I remember reading an article in QST, prolly back in the early 60's, of a ham making his own tubes. They looked really crude, not anything like this guy. He has a remarkable set of talents and disciple to do the work that he's doing. I picked up 2 books at a swapmeet. They came from the EIMAC company library and they were on the design and fabrication of vacuum tubes. It's amazing how much work and thought went into a technology that's so close to dead now.

Getting back to the mother and son story, in my branch there was a family involved with TWI - daughter gone WOW, father in twig, mother not. Turns out that the mother had lost her son at an early age. She had taken the class was deeply hurt by VP's implication that her believing might have killed her child. What can you say to something like that?

Here's something for you, Ham. A French amateur that fabricates his own vacuum tubes.... http://dailymotion.alice.it/video/x3wrzo_f...mpe-triode_tech

I had my cholesterol checked years ago and it was a stunning 330. After reading "The Cholesterol Myth" I decided to not be overly concerned and definitely not take drugs for it. Things I have done are eliminate pork from my diet, decrease beef and, to a lesser extent, chicken and increase fish. My wife makes baked salmon twice a week and I try to eat sushi at least once a week with two servings of salmon. We also try to workout for an hour at least 3 times a week. Healthwise, I have very few problems with my bp about normal for my age. My machine says my average is 117/77. I do watch the bp but ignore all the dire cholesterol warnings. My family has no significant heart disease history, despite living on a diet of lard, pig and fried chicken. Note that this is my own personal opinion and should not be confused with health advice. Do your own research and decide what's right for you.

What Linda said. If you were on staff during ROA, any spare time was generally spent sleeping. Not much time or energy for hanging out with friends.

Three storms swept over Northern California, starting Friday afternoon. The first and last weren't much to write home about, but the middle one was nasty. Now I know that we're not talking about hurricanes like some of you GS'ers live with, but us California folks are used to wildfires and ground shaking. We get a little uncomfortable with 60 mph gusting to 75 mph winds and inches of rain per hour. Power was off for 20 hours, internet for 28, trees down and some flooding. AFAIK, no loss of life and minimal damage given the conditions.

Ridiculous, yes. But it's probably not the store's fault. There are many words that must be carefully used or avoided in corporate communications. Never call a full-time position a permanent position least you be sued when you fire that employee for cause. Never call a bonus "profit sharing", because profit sharing is a program with a bunch of legal implications. Etc, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if a "holiday" something-something didn't have some sort of labor relations issues.

Cooking and eating utensils. They were not supplied by the ship and steerage passengers had to prepare their own food. In some cases, they had to bring their own food as well. Bedding, extra clothes, money, the family Bible and what few keepsakes they could carry. Perhaps names and addresses of relatives, letters of introduction.
