You got that right. I grew up in Washington State, on the side of the Cascade mountains. We had hard winters and nice summers. Low humidity, temperature in the 70's and 80's most of the time. Just really nice weather from May to September. I enlisted in the Army in the summer of 1970. The recruiter told me I'd be sent to Ft. Lewis for basic training. That's on the coast of Washington state. I reported for my induction and they told me we would be going to Ft. Jackson at Columbia SC. I didn't have a clue what the weather would be like, but when I stepped off the plane at the airport, I thought I'd die. It felt like stepping into a furnace. What the he|| had I gotten myself into? Well, I got through it, and now when I think things are bad, I can always look back to that 60 days...

Regardless of anything else, Bumpy was guilty of sockpuppetry and trolling. Both are considered disruptive behaviors on most forums. I don't believe his opinions were ever the issue. More so was his divisive style of stating them as a troll and then refusing to enter an honest debate about them.

Thirty-two years ago give or take a month. Could it have been that long ago? Something about the 4th of July brings it to mind.

Last time I rented, years ago, I took the shuttle bus into town and rented at the agency there. It was about half the price of the airport.

Great story man. Had the same thing happen to me at ROA '75

Claud*tte R. how did she feel about what was going on?
Jim replied to fooledagainII's topic in About The Way
Exactly. All I know is that she always treated the A/V staff nice and that she was a gracious person. I also think that she valued her privacy and that rooting around trying to second guess where her thinking was 30 years ago is not kind or productive. -
I still find it very difficult to badmouth or criticize God. It's believing in Him that's difficult. Your "false religion" statement is laughable at best. I've spent my whole life around true believers, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Hindi, Jewish, vegan, Marxist, etc, etc, etc. The most remarkable thing I can say is that most of them believe they possess the true religion. Believing does not make it so.

I think this guy could be called one... I read his book and didn't find it all that convincing. More anger than anything else. What turned the corner for me was William Manchester's volume "A World Lit only by Fire". The relentless documentation of both Catholic and Reformation oppression was stunning. And it also confirmed quite a bit of the stuff in "Babylon, Mystery Religion", believe it or not.

It might be one of these two... http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/index.php?showuser=210 http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/index.php?showuser=1386 You might want to try sending him/her an email, there's a box down the page on the left side on the first one, grayed out on the second.

Let me get your coat...

Because they can. I know exactly what you are talking about and it sucks. Somewhere the concept of "you give me money and I'll give you value" broke down with the cable companies. It's more like "you give me money and I'll serve up the crap that will increase my bottom line". The only thing I can recommend is a Tivo.

You got off easy. Be glad that "Lord" Mausoff didn't catch you digging a hole in his precious grounds.

I worked A/V full time back in '80, but never ran a camera other than to test and align them. I don't recall any specific instructions to stand at ease. OTOH, Joe C was always attentive to appearances and he always seemed to pick the sharpest corps to run cameras. That summer in 80' that I was working A/V the aircon failed in the BRC. One of the cameramen actually collapsed from the heat during the SNS. He posts here time from time and I'll let him tell the story if he chooses to reveal himself.

The good thing about ebola is that it's so bad, it's self-limiting. It strikes so fast and so gruesomely that it's victims seldom have time to spread the disease. As a result outbreaks generally are contained to a small area and no more than one or two dozen victims. Now for a really scary disease, check out smallpox.

Groucho mentioned that the "favored" Corps tended to get the assignments that they wanted. So were you "favored or "unfavored"? When did you find out? I remember being disappointed that the person I sponsored always seemed be working food services at the ROA. He didn't seem very "blessed" about it either. I'm guessing he was "unfavored".

I've been in your shoes and it hurts to think of all the pain you're going through. My life was gray for nearly a year. Things will slowly get better. I wished I had more to say. You're in my thoughts.

Very good, and thanks for asking. You're going to have to help me out here, Bump. Last time I accused you of being a troll, I got flamed. I'm just trying to be a nice guy. Well, you said you didn't want to live in the Northwest because you didn't know anyone. I think you could do well raising rabbits. What is it you call them, lapin?

Is China really that awful when it comes to animal abuse?
Jim replied to RottieGrrrl's topic in Open
I wished I could say something that would help you to feel better. I started a long post about all the terrible things that are done to people, but I got depressed and deleted it. I love animals. My daughter loves animals so much that she's a vegan. I have no answers, just compassion. -
I remember. Thanks and love, -jim

First of all, I am neither a creationist or an evolutionist so I have no axe to grind. My small mind can't wrap around either concept to the exclusion of the other. That said, this smells like the classic case of a contaminated petri dish. I would not be surprised at all if in six months or a year, the results are disproven or shown to be in error in some way. It's certainly happened before. Call me a cynical old bastard.

Bump, I wonder if you're really cut out for that kind of life. You seem to have disdain and contempt for US culture at every step and I've gotta say, your neighbors will pick up on that. You saying that you'd like to move to the US and raise animals because of the real estate mess is like me saying I want to move to France and start a church because of all the Muslim immigrants that are there.

Didn't David Anderson have a manuscript for a book about James? Anyone know if it got published?
-
I never meant my post to imply you did those things. I was just commenting on the fast-and-loose use of the word "attacked".
-
I really hate to see the word "attacked" used in place of "hurtful communications" or "insensitive words". "attacked" means guns, knives and fists. Say what you mean and be exact and specific. English is a beautiful language for it's nuance, use it.

Wouldn't global warming be the result of it rather than vise versa? In any case, are you suggesting we should sit on our hands and nod "God's will be done"? Sorry, not me.
