  1. Hi, Exy!!! I'm a busy Shazzy these days, but I drive through the Greasespot takeout window every so often. Always happy to hear from you, and read your one-liners! Take care, Shaz
  2. Geez, Sudo, I hope you are not lumping those of us who have posted about health issues as among those who "suck up the undeserved sympathy" here at Greasespot. And is it a bad thing to say, "Hey, my life is sucky" when it is? I left that only-speak-positives doctrine a long time ago. I guess I'm just sayin' that I haven't noticed anyone particularly hogging the spotlight. I've had enough drama in my life to write a soap opera script for a year; I don't talk about it much, but that's just me. That said, I did encounter a Catmandu-type incident a couple of years ago. A gal who led a Yahoo! support group suddenly announced she was going back to an abusive spouse, then we next heard from her "daughter" that she'd died. It took a little ferreting, since we didn't know her real name, but we determined that there had been no obit in her home town. I eventually found her, posting under another name.

    Belly Dancing!

Hi Cowgirl. I took a master class in it once. We were all in-shape dancers, but she gave our hips and torsos quite a workout! Lots of fun, and a very different way of working for a lot of us who were mostly familiar with the ballet-modern-jazz genre. Make sure your instructor is knowledgeable, then enjoy!

    Brit for a bit

 Oh my :) Snicker :D Teehee Guffaw! Quite a lot of cheek, that. And you took this job? And kept it up for how long?? Really funny stuff.
  7. Yeah, cracked me up when someone described The Secret to me. And you can learn all about it, too, just buy the book.... Same cult, different day.
  8. Hi Juan, thanks for the information. Yes, there are some real Biblical scholars out there. They earned the respect, based on education and output. They didn't demand respect, based on a story of being called as God's right-hand MOG. I must admit, though, I still have trouble with the "Jesus became sin, and God couldn't stand sin" explanation of Eli, Eli. Perhaps I will just have to hold that one "in abeyance." ;) Meanwhile, be sure to read "CES in a Crisis/Read the Facts First, the Documents." Nothing new, just another cult that developed weird side doctrines and enjoyed meddling in people's lives. Take care, The other drive-by poster, Shaz
  9. I have been away from the board a lot, and just read this thread. Quote from Linda Z: That says it for me. He will be missed. His life made a difference for the better.
  10. The point of reading the rape threads is that there are people who excuse what Wierwille did because he taught "The Word like it hasn't been known since the first century," and therefore, we are to overlook his "faults" because he did something so good. After all, he was only human. If I learned math from a teacher who later molested a student, should I give up what I learned about math? No. But should I be thankful to the point of excusing the teacher's molestation, because he taught me math? The Wierwille "worshippers," IMO, want to elevate VPW to a status above accountability. MOG-dom should give him a free pass. Read the Mike threads, where he felt that God chose him especially because he was a renegade and a free thinker. When Wierwille raped, molested, verbally abused, drank to excess, and systematically plagiarized (sorry to put these all in a list, they are not equal), he was not acting like a MOG, a superhuman, or even a human. As far as I'm concerned, this was pretty sub-human behavior. And gratitude for things learned should not extend to excusing evil. Regards, Shaz
  11. I'm sure innies who have given their hard-earned $$$ for the movement of God's Word are happy to know that over $100,000 of it has been donated to the University of Toledo. Real good stewardship of abundant sharing, guys... If anyone else had "tithed" to a university instead of to TWI, they'd have been reamed a new one, I'm sure. Giving to "good" instead of "best," and all that. -- Shaz
  12. And that is the essence of this letter. It is why JAL's situation with E. is never mentioned. The letter is not about her. It is about who will have the most followers after the G's are thrown out. It is about who can appear more godly in the face of tossing them out. Talking about E. would just interfere with that image, wouldn't it? Sure, it would. IMHO, Shaz
  13. No surprise. Who else would put up with an attitude like that? Sheesh! Glad you made a better choice.

    Organ Donation

I used to be, but I doubt that I will ever be fully free from Lyme disease, and wouldn't want to pass it along via a transplant. The Infectious Diseases Society has recently decreed that there is no such thing as chronic Lyme, only post-Lyme syndrome, but the Red Cross has said that chronic Lyme patients can't donate blood. I was thinking of donating my brain, however, seeing how it's hardly ever been used.... :D -- Shaz
  15. I had once owned a 1613/14 King James Bible. In the center (between the New and Old Testaments) was a section of Psalms set to music. The introduction to this section said that its purpose was to counteract the proliferation of madrigals, "which corrupt our youth." So nothing has changed.
  16. I'm glad it's you in the kitchen, dooj. I know very little of what I'm doing there. :D I'm guessing WW's remark is a carryover from another thread. But I gotta respond to Jim's response. Jim, I'm with you if you think we over-idolize and over-pay many of our top athletes (but don't lump them all in that category either -- I'm thinking Olympic-calibre martial artists and gymnasts, who don't get near the $$). But I disagree that "athletics is pretty much a worthless endeavor in any case." I also was pretty awful at sports, though I became a half-decent dancer. I don't understand all the money thrown at certain sports, and I live in a town where saying "the Red Socks suck" could start a bar fight. But there is something inspirational about seeing a beautifully executed dive, or a perfect pass, or a fantastic sprint. To me, there is just something uplifting about watching a fellow human being do something amazing, through hard work and concentration. But don't ask me to watch the Rose Bowl to see it, okay? I'll catch it on the news. :D Regards, Shaz
  17. And I liked this list of problems that many gifted kids share: http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/content...ent_gifted.html The trick is not to make the gifted child into someone who needs to be catered to, but rather to give them more advanced things to do after they have shown competency with the subject matter at hand. HTH, Shaz
  18. Try these sites for more information. Even if they don't describe Jacob, they may give you terms and other ideas for searching. http://www.childdevelopmentinfo.com/index.htm http://childparenting.about.com/od/intelle...pment/index.htm http://www.aspergers.com/ I would also suggest a couple of things. One, find him after school activities where kids of different ages come together in areas he is interested in. (If he likes animals, find a Junior Naturalists group, for example.) It has been my experience that children who don't do well in their own age group often do just fine with older and younger kids. The other thing might be to find a "whole body" sport for him, such as swimming, gymnastics, or martial arts, to enhance overall strength and coordination and its connection to cognitive skills. Preferably a class where he will improve his own skills, not a team situation where he will be derided for not focusing or not scoring. Regards, Shaz
  19. Happiest birthday, Mr. Strange-but-in-a-good-way! This time the snowcones are on me.

    A Speach

Ah, too little, too late, I suppose. But I've always thought that the biggest key to public speaking is to stop listening to yourself, and think instead about what you need to say. Remind yourself that what you are talking about is important, then say it as if you are talking to your best friend. Just be sure your best friend is in the back of the room, so everyone else can hear you.... Shaz
  21. Aw, Raf, I thought they were the prophets who were gonna drive one through those ol' devil spurts' hearts!
  22. Hi freeone, I'd like to add to what 1broken1 said -- which I agree with wholeheartedly. You said I hear this a lot when marriages are torn apart, "We're only hearing one side...it takes two to tango...." It casts doubt and suspicion on the one making the report. Now, I am sure that we haven't heard every detail, but that is not the point. The point in this discussion is that CES/STFI has been using the dreams, visions, and interpretations of a prophetic council to guide the personal lives of its leadership, and to destroy relationships. This information has been brought to us in part by Jeff, who was posting pro-CES messages here long before this came up. Others have come forward with corroborating information, and indicated that others are also being injured by these "prophetic" utterances. This isn't just about what happened between E. and JAL, but rather about CES/STFI policies and practices. Would you want your life and decisions to be dependent upon a prophetic council? Would you like to know if the leaders of your group operate this way, before you support such a group with your time, allegiance, or money? And part of me just can't think of much that a woman could have done in her marriage to justify this systematic destruction of her reputation. And even if she had done something that heinous, I wouldn't think that a Christian organization (or its God) would resort to such an ungodly effort. Lastly, you said that you would be "holding in abeyance" this story, since you don't know all the details. I recall that "hold in abeyance" is a TWI term. It does not appear anywhere in Scripture. Compare that term with Mary, who "kept all these things, and pondered in her heart" the visit by the shepherds at the manger. Regards, Shaz
  23. Dot already said better than I what is on my heart about what happened. Thank you for standing up and saying "no, this is wrong." I think your insights will heal many, both in and out of STFI. Take care, Shaz
  24. I agree, freeone, and welcome to Greasespot. Sad that a disagreement turns into a "spiritual battle," where one has to be right, and one has to be imfluenced by the devil. I betcha that the inner circle became much more fearful about speaking their minds after what happened to E.
