I agree, exy and WG. Tell your kids what you believe, not what they have to believe. Even if you don't "know that you know" anymore, teach them that. They will line up what you're sayin' with what you're doin'.

Being on a pedestal is no great place to be, either. The man doesn't love his wife, he loves an idealized version of his wife, a version she can't possibly live up to. Believe me, been there. I still get an occasional letter from the innie ex-husband who insults me up one side and down the other, then tells me he still "loves" me and that I should beg for him to come back.... 'Scuse me while I guffaw.... :D Shaz

Child molestations too common in Family Corps
shazdancer replied to Thelema's topic in About The Way
Thanks for the info, Georgio. I never knew G all that much, but had a few conversations with C on teaching children, and having gone into the field after, I was left with the impression that she'd had some training in early childhood development, and had a good heart. Very sorry for all that happened to you. And so glad I got out of there before it could happen to my own kids. -
Oh my.

Okay, geekerinos, so what about... ...hyphenated descriptors? My boss LOVES to turn two words into a single adjective, but never with a hyphen. I think I probably hyphenate too much. Any of you logophiles have a rule of thumb for this? I have read up a little, but would love to hear your opinion. For example: "We formulated a long range plan" v. "We formulated a long-range plan" Have at it. -- Shaz

Wow, youse guys, kewl thread. ;) I am a product of an English teacher father, and a secretary mother, so I guess I never stood a chance to be a bad grammarian. I would say I'm passable, and I enjoy playing with the language to enhance communication. But I am very suspicious of people who emphasize grammar over content. They are so distracted with being right that they just might miss something profound. Regards, Shaz

As of this morning, it doesn't look like the baby is the Davis baby. The baby girl was left at the doorstep of a school nurse, who says she speaks confidentially to girls in difficult circumstances. In other words, the nurse probably knows who the mother is. But they swabbed the baby's mouth for DNA, and will be checking for a match to Davis. Meanwhile, it's turning up that Cutts, the father of Davis' children, had pleaded no contest to breaking down a door of a former girfriend's house a decade ago. And he got in trouble for allegedly leaving his service revolver with a cousin, but reporting it stolen, in 2003. It turned up in a drug raid on the cousin's house. Cutts is separated from his wife (not Davis), with whom he also has children. Place your bets.

Ooh, as soon as I saw the pic, I thought, "Looks just like stinging nettle." Ouch! Yes, jewelweed is said to help take the sting out, and it grows in the same habitat, so you can often find it nearby. I hadn't heard about the slug-slime before, hah! Hopefully you'll recognize it before you run into it the next time. Happy hiking, Shaz

B, you said That's funny, when they kicked my hubby off of staff, they kicked me off, too, and I was not allowed to discuss it with them.Oh, oopsie, not so surprising, I was the woman. I was also the woman who got my man in TWI in the first place, had more years of experience and service in TWI, but too bad, he messed up, we're both out. Best thing that ever happened to me. It added to the pile of c*** that was making TWI stink more and more.

Sounds like where Christian "praise" music was, back around the early 80s. Back when it was playing to our parents more than to our generation. The evangelical movement has gone way past that since. Most of the TWIers still there are baby boomers, I'd suppose. So what's with the old stuff? I'd rather hear a girl singing a fold song and strumming 3 chords on a guitar, but with heart, than this stuff.

100% here, too, though I guessed on a couple. Do I get a special nametag?

I doubt the cameraman knew it was coming, waysider, just that VPW did. He got his kicks showing us how "tapped in" he was, how hard working he was, and how spiritual detail-oriented he was. Now 'scuse me while I hurl... Eyesopen, you said Rather, we didn't know red flags when we saw them. I for one never felt I belonged with an abuser, nor was I ever comfortable there. But my ability to be taken advantage of more than once points to a tremendous ability to overlook my gut feelings.Wierwille wanted to blame us women for that, too. If we stayed with an abuser, we had a spirit of masochism. Talk about dam*ed if ya do, and dam*ed if ya don't!

Dennis, so sorry to hear that. Many people who knew him were upset, because he was always such an up person, and he had been feeling better lately and was back recording. There is an online Lyme group here that quickly got together to be sure that people received support. There is a very nice article about him, and about Lyme, in the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Maine. [And FYI, the dance teacher in the article is not me] Lyme disease is more than a bull's eye rash, flu-like symptoms, and a swollen knee. Left untreated or under-treated, Lyme and other tick-borne diseases can produce a whole host of symptoms, depending upon where the infection spreads. Headache, crushing fatigue, body aches, and brain fog are common. But hearing loss, blindness, paralysis, seizures, cognitive deficits, psychological problems and heart disease are also not unusual. Some people die from Lyme. Depression is common, both as a symptom of Lyme itself and as a consequence of dealing with a chronic illness, especially when that illness is hard to see and often not acknowledged, even by the medical community. Because so many of the symptoms are subjective, people are written off as faking it, psychosomatic, or lazy. Add to that the pressure in TWI and spinoff groups to not "speak a negative." They can look good, but feel like he11. Dot, I know of one other poster who has said she'd had Lyme -- I hope she is well. And there is another prominent ex-Wayfer who doesn't post that told me she'd contracted it, but I have lost touch and don't know how she is doing. I hope she is out there dispelling the notion that disease = bad believing. Lacing up my Nikes, Shaz

Merci, merci, coolchef!!! I will also send you some information on an event we will be doing in my hometown on May 10. You guys should definitely attend if you can. Give me a few days to get to it, as I am up to my tushy in projects. AND I will pick a flat part of the walk, and let you know! Lyme reared its ugly head last month up here with the passing of Mainer Bill Chinnock, member of the E Street Band before Bruce Springsteen. He died of suicide after a Lyme relapse. May is to be declared Lyme Disease Awareness Month in the state of Maine and other states. Maine is also working on some legislation to mandate coverage of long-term Lyme treatment by insurance companies, and education of school healthcare workers. Mainers packed the Statehouse committee room recently with stories about being misdiagnosed and undertreated. Just trying to leave a dent, Shaz

Forest Lake, David. You can read about it at: Minnesota Lyme Action Group I'm sure they will provide information if you are looking for it, and could use help and support if you want to give it! Regards, Shaz

I am doing the "Walk Against Lyme -- For Those Who Can't," beginning on May 1st in Augusta, Maine this year. The Walk was initiated last year by the Ya-Yas of Rebecca Wells' fan website. A similar walk will take place in Minnesota on May 5, but ours is a month-long deal. Here's how it works: teams of 4 will walk each day in May (we did it in April last year). Pledges and donations support the walk -- 10-25 cents per mile you walk is fine, or a flat donation. Miles walked are reported each week to the team captain. The walkers that come in LAST have to pay an additional $25 each to a Lyme cause, such as the non-profit LymeAid4Kids Fund, that provides needy children with access to specialists and treatment. I will also be putting local donations to an information event to be held in my town in May. My son and I had fun with this. And I gotta warn you -- our team did not lose! But I paid anyway.... :D I would like to walk our first mile to the Augusta State House on May 1st, when they will declare May Lyme Disease Awareness Month. If you would like to join a walking team, or make a pledge, please PM me. Your Lymie, Shaz from last year's walk and the end, Acadia National Park

I am going to need some serious help writing PHP
shazdancer replied to shazdancer's topic in Computer Questions
Thanks, griff and Bluzeman. This is for a course in digital libraries. I probably will build the actual library using a template, but for now, I need to get past this assignment, and since it is basic stuff, it is important. I noticed that the Index.php file will not run in IE either -- all I get is the code -- and since I didn't write this file, I am guessing that I have a computer problem to fix, not a code-writing one. However, I am getting the WAMP5 logo when I go to http://localhost/ Suggestions? Thanks, Shaz -
I am taking a class in writing "dynamic" web pages in PHP, when I can barely write in HTML! (I went from writing beginner's Basic back in the '70s, and now this...aargh!) Here's my first big problem. I have a WAMP server downloaded, so I am trying to open my code in Windows in order to read what I made. I cannot get my code to read, so I am assuming I am saving it to the wrong place. Can anyone explain where I need to save the file? And can you explain it in "click on this, you will see that" mode, instead of describing the location? Oy, I am determined to get this....

Mozart -- Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Vivaldi -- Spring or Summer from the Four Seasons, and almost any concerto by Vivaldi Bach -- Brandenburg Concertos, #3 is my favorite, and the Bach Cello Suites, and the flute sonatas Copland -- Appalachian Spring, Rodeo, Fanfare for the Common Man, Duo for Flute and Piano Strauss waltzes, if you just want to dance around the house!

ROFL, David! My shortest post ever at Greasespot, and you're finding double meanings in it! Just say it 10 times fast, and no playing with your rubber duckie while you do. :D Shaz
