I for one would be glad to go in and find out their intentions.. speaking of scary women,I love the Klimt prints but whats with the guys head she is holding? It doesnt help that she looks somewhat like my exwife and the head looks like me when we were married. That was about my expression during my marriage as well...

:) I heard a bluegrass version of Close to The Edge by Yes on the radio yesterday, that was great but I cant find it here on the intertubes I did find THIS fiddle version of a song at an open mic which was pretty well done.. ------ This is for some friends who are taking off on their global wander starting today with a flight to Ireland thats leaving right about now. Richard Thompson--Banish Misfortune

Well since that has been advantageous to my guys--Im totally for it :) , I'd hate to see it lead to a Ray Fosse/Pete Rose type collison that injures someone....Its not that big of a deal I find myself not nearly as against interleague play as I once was, it is sort of an annual ritual around here to fume about it, so I thought I'd bring it up--- mostly its just selfishness this year on my part because the Red Sox are shorthanded right now, and Manny with a tweaked hamstring probably cant play outfield and wont be able to DH either. Ellsbury is hurting, Crisp is due to be suspended, that'll leave Moe, Larry and J D Drew in the outfield unless someone plays hurt. With a DH at least Manny could hit..... I'd still like to see them work out a system that is some how balanced, we've already discussed it to infinity so I wont beat a deadhorse about it

Now here's something you won't see on any of our major news stations!!
mstar1 replied to washn'wear's topic in Open
I think the authot may have slightly misread the poll. .Reading isnt all that difficult I dont know how exactly he translated the poll into how much air conditioning and water we have...(heating for winter will have to wait for next winter to see if we are warm or not--right now its precarious) or whether or not we can find a clean motel or how good our law enforcement is..that wasnt even close to what the poll recorded........ Have you read any news lately or maybe even gone to the gas pumps? you may want to scratch that 9/11? You remember that day I hope...and you do remember who was the commander in chief, sworn to keep us safe, on that day dont you? If youve read many of these forums you know that Im not much of a believer in the media either, BUt the head in the sand approach doesnt and will never work. Each citizen has an obligation to be informed, If some are unhappy about the direction of the country or the presidents performance its because they do have enough care for the country to speak up so that it continues to be a place worth living, as opposed to those who would play ostrich and be yes men to whoever comes along and think its all jolly and dandy I have to disagree with your author takes anyone who disagrees with this administration, jumps straight into their personal lives and portrays them as spoiled brats.. You wont see it on major news stations because Its a childish and nonsensical leap...Maybe OReilly but he does that anyway -
Thats one thing I miss about the free agent era--being able to watch the entire arc of someones career---players like Cal Ripken--or around here the obvious guys like Yastremski, Rice and Dwight Evans , and now Varitek---but even the non big names like Tim Wakefield who has been around for 13 or 14 years now bring something enjoyable to watch--but also some grounding for the players (i would think)...Its too much of a rarity these days. In JR's defense, I remember hearing when he signed with the Reds that a big part of it was that he did grow up with the Reds and was "going home' (if you remember Sr. was part of those big Red Machine teams, and Jr. hung out with the old Reds of the Bench/Rose/Morgan/Perez Era as a child)--so it wasnt all just money.. ...anyway---we get the Reds this weekend--We'll see what Francona can do to patch together a lineup --just about everyone is either limping, DL'ed or suspended, but at least I'll get to see Jr. and the Reds..... ....maybe while Im at it I'll start a mainboard thread "Is Interleague play a sin?" I think Leviticus says pretty clearly it is an abomination (intermingling with people of different customs and all that..) but there may be other interpretations

So.. A termite walks into a bar and asks the first person he sees is the bar tender here?

I knew a girl Wow family that alhough probably not technically "shilling" while um..witnessing.... had a bait and switch technique that signed up quite a few....It was probably not unique to them.. They'd spend their week and weekend nights at the local club drinking and dancing and would whisper into just about any guys ear that they got close to...come to my house thursday at 7:30.... Thats all, nothing about classes, bibles, or any godstuff--just some scantily clad 20 something inviting them over to their house... When the poor bastage showed up for his presumably very hot date that he was lead to believe was happening , he would be ambushed by bibles and green cards... <_< I know a whole hatful of guys whose whole "christian conversion experience" is really nothing more than a desire to get laid that has gone awry

Im staying out of this but watching from a distance has been interesting... Lack of degrees has never stopped the likes of Wierwille --or many christians (and non christians for that matter) from voicing their opinion, or their view of scripture or God. If I remember correctly Peter and John were "ignorant and unlearned men" and they seemed to do OK despite their lack of credentials...even wrote a few books....As far as I know neither of them ever mentioned what has been termed here as a 'foundation' of the faith, that is homosexuality as sin...This link you provided, had an interesting point that I have been thinking about during the course of this thread Because certain wings of christianity assume certain issues to be central tenets doesnt necessarily make them so--except to themselves. I would think that the central character in Christianity may have talked about it at least once if it were so important, but that is not true --at least in my bible. Some churches are vehemently against homosexuality, other s not so much, others are very open to all. The faith is hardly being "changed" or challenged. There have always been different views and methods of processing scripture. Jesus did spend a great amount of his time commenting about a lot of things (treatment of the poor, how to deal with your enemies etc immediately comes to mind). Its interesting to me how something he never mentioned can hold such precedence over issues that he did speak in depth about... Its curious thats all.. anyway--carry on...

damn I composed a long post concerning my thoughts about most of the things mentioned on this page and tried to tie in Geo's appreciation of the craftsmanship in the woodblock print to my appreciation of the craftsmanship in the 8th century Book Of Kells--complete with photos that I hunted down.. Took me about an hour but I lost the damn post--- maybe I'll post something later

I dont know exactly how many games Jr missed --but i would bet it would be 5-600 games of prime years...He'd be darn close to Bonds if not surpassing him if he had stayed healthy... Its all part of the game-- Ted Williams hit .406, took off 4 years to become fighter pilot in WWII then came back and won the triple crown--Its tough to say what some players career totals might have been, career numbers arent always the greatest guage of assessing how good players were Still 600 is pretty darn good--Congrats again JR
-
It certainly helps if the lineup is solid all the way through--nobody has to be 'stars' but even solid players will elevate each others performance....or so it seems I remember the years here when it was Nomar and a cast of thousands--or Mo Vaughan and the same. Nothing ever clicked there were just too many holes for anything meaningful to come about on a consistant basis. Im looking forward to seeing Hamilton when you guys are this way in August and --Congrats to Jr. --I still think the young Jr. was the most exciting ballplayer that i ever saw---I cant imagine where he would be stats wise if he hadnt been injured for the greater part of his Cincinnati years. One thing I cant believe --there looked like there were 5000 people in the stands in Florida for his 600th--the whole city of Miami should be fined for that---- .....

Tikes-- sounds like the Rangers have afew things to work on.. I did hear yesterday that The stRangers lead the league in batting (good!) but are last in pitching and defense (eh---not so good!...). Its gotta be frustrating down there ---but at least hitting makes for some exciting baseball-----as long as they can keep from hitting each other. I hope there is nothing wrong with MY--that'd be a loss---for the whole league--- I dont know that much about Ponson but despite having lots of "potential' --he keeps moving around every year..I suppose there is a reason for that..... Agreed it was stupid move (wouldve been way better off taking his base and stealing second)...but it wasnt just getting hit in the butt....its a few years worth oif stuff that came to a head over the last two series and unfortunately it will probably go on later this year as the Rays scrape and claw toward the top. There is some blood and history between these two teams....It was stupid--I hope nothing really stupid happens like a serious injury. JD Drew is being the JD Drew everyone hoped for now that Papi is out, of course being in front of Manny in the order has to make hitting just a little easier....

Dont forget to register for your All Star tickets-- I was reading this morning: THIS LINK sounds pretty much near the perfect job.... Having a job to eat at ballparks...... ... If I ever go for a career change thats gonna be near the top of the list.... ..............

From Geo, on the previous page There is a humorous and interesting documentary out that you might enjoy seeing entitled "Who the F#&k is Jackson Pollack". A true story about a 72 year old woman truck driver from rural Texas who bought an "ugly painting" for $5.00 as a joke for her friend as she moved into a new trailer. When it wouldnt fit in the door of the trailer they put it in a Yard Sale , where the local High Scoll art teacher told her that it may be by Jackson Pollack..her reply of course was " Who the #%@& is Jackson Pollack? Long Story short, it is a Pollack and is worth about 100 million dollars .The real gems of the movie are the clips of the battles between the uppity art critics and dealers of NYC and this cantankerous , crass but charmingly smart woman from rural texas who knows nothing about art --It addreses a lot of those issues in your post and more Its worth renting or Netflixing at some point... Not a "great" movie but I liked it and it gave an interesting view of the inside of the art world.... anyway----- Since Rockwell and Pollack have been both named in this thread Here is Rockwell doing Pollack (I actually think he did Pollack better than Pollack did) Ok sorry dooj for my ADD, after this I'll start following the rules of this thread

good review! Maybe things are changing ----east is moving west and west is moving east. Ive almost been perturbed how sedate Fenway has been this year, for the most part just more or less polite people with some rhythmic chants and cheers thrown in with conversation with whoever you are next,,, Only a handful of drunks (havent seen atruly obnoxious one yet) and I dont think Ive heard one "You Suck!" blistering through the air yet--like in the old days. The price of winning overcomes all the old demons I guess....and makes you a little mellower.. Cubs fans gotta be tasting it this year---I can remember that taste like blood and wanting to win sooo much , just for once, on every single pitch, that all decorum got thrown to the wind...Its exciting to get uplifted and to have hope for once but at the same time it brings out all the collective angst, frustrations, failures and demons every time something goes wrong that have to be exorcised on the road to 'the promised land' I hope they make it---- I'd love to see the Cubs win it this year--Its a transformative experience and those cubbie fans deserve it...Mr Beerthrower shouldnt have to go through life so frustrated--or any of the other faithful--- other than that-----Glad you got a good game...watch out for that sun--It mustve been brutal today in LA-- Whats up with Nomar? anything?

An old friend that I havent seen in too long finally showed up today----Summertime---- Heres a version from the Bill Evans Trio in 1965

I read a story that a friend walked in on William Blake while he was working. He was desheveled , thrashing about incoherently, unaware that a vistor had come, and in the midst of a conversation with God, Jesus Mohammed, and the Devil . To me his stuff is brilliant--but I have seen the same type of behaviour from diagnosed shizophrenics at the homeless shelter Blakes work is populated with God, Devils, Angels and visions ---eh---also just like at the shelter If you look through his illustrations they at the very least cover a much wider array of emotions than your average Joe--whther its mental illness or not --who knows but If I pulled these two illustrations of his out of a pile , you wouldnt have to be Freud to guess that he might just might be bipolar

Bumpy-- the land I told you about this morning on the other thread is 12 miles from Williamstown--strange that you should bring that up (Williamstown also supposedly has the largest collect of French Impressionists collected anywhere outside of France at the Clark Art Museum. The Clarks who had the world class collection, originally had ideas for either New York, Paris or Rome to house them, but decided on Williamstown, because a war would never be fought there. Being in 'my neighborhood' (about 25 miles)Its good for me to be able to walk into complete rooms of Monets and Renoirs anytime that I get the urge.... unfortunately having seen them, after a quick search I cant find any online images that do them justice, the colors are just to rich in person...

That area I posted would be a good area for that type of thing.. The land 50 miles south is going for huge amounts of money as a place for (mostly) New Yorkers to flee from the city and find a pastoral refuge.... Its getting saturated--the only place for them to go soon is a little further North, which they havent quite reached yet---right where that land is.... The land in my estimation will only increase in value as the demand up there grows....I think the land is a good investment ( although I really dont know enought about the real estate mess to make a completely accurate evaluation. There seem to be alot of people in this area who do raise llamas, oxes and other nontraditional farm animals that seem to be making a go of it somehow or other... There is alreaady plenty of deer on the land --foxes, fisher cats, porcupines-and occasional bears ----....Its rumored there is a good sized bobcat or two but Ive never seen them

Damn howz come no one everr hands me tickets at work? O yeah--I work alone--that must be it... anyway--that sounds like aperfect way to spend a June saturday in LA----Enjoy! BTW--- A friend showed meTHIS LINK to register for All Star game tickets. MLB is selling them via a lottery system. Even if you can not possibly go, its worth it to register. If you win, resale value is huge -- StubHub and other ticket outlets are selling tickets for up to $25,000 (if any of you win ticks --I'll take my 10% commision )

Iwas looking for a picture of the land and cant find one.. THIS is NOT the exact land, but similar type land in the same general area, although hers is higher with much better views It really is a beautiful piece of property--the winters are rough in New England is the only real drawback. Its far enough out where you could be pretty much self sustaining if necessary but if you get the urge for some city life you are about equal 2 and a half hour drives (give or take) from New York City , Boston, or Montreal That NY/mass/vermont corner where it is located is a real nice spot
-
Its a wide world--almost anywhere may do.. I have friend with about 130 acres for sale in upstate NY that is pretty much as you described, ie.rolling hills, two fair sized forests, plenty of grazing land. Being in the northern latitudes its not too hot-- (its been awhile since I have been there--Im not exactly sure about a river--but it is not dry). Its a rural area surrounded by other farmland and has beautiful distant views of the of the hills of Vermont and Upstate NY I doubt she has any type of link on the net up. If you're interested --I'll ask her about it. HERE is some info and maps on the township to give you an idea of where it is.....

Your about my age--Its hard NOT to like those early Russell, Sam Jones, KC Jones, Satch Sanders, John Havlicek teams that seemed to always be in the finals against Elgin Baylor and Jerry West during the 60's. Being in TWI I didnt get as close a look at the Bird/Magic years as I would have liked I dont follow basketball all that closely anymore but the year the Celts have had combined with meeting the Lakers in the Finals conjures up the old feelings that havent been there for too long ... o that was another weird thing about last nights Red Sox game...the dominant chant all night at the baseball gamewas BEAT LA--BEAT LA --BEAT LA ..................... It apparently is no big deal between Manny and Youkilis if anyone cares....
