Those Wesley lads sure got around... How many hymns did they write? I can never open a hymnbook anywhere without seeing a whole pile of 'em by one Wesley or another--good ones too.

I would have voted for this one, but I think that (basically) everyone understands the difference between a truth and a lie until it gets seared out of them---I have a tendency to think it was probably more like Broken Arrow stated in that lies were repeated so often that they became like truth.... of course that may be some pathological thing...but I look at is more like a covering for some insecurities rather than someone who did not have a choice in the matter.

VPW concocted a pretty huge story about himself... Snow on the gas pumps, "doctor", claiming he wrote books that he plagiarized, Hey! he invented the hookshot!...and drive in restaurants!...and was given the keys to the city in India, and saved the US from sure destruction...and.... well ... you get the idea....he was self inflated, grandiose and had a penchant for talltales... Im sure he told the truth some of the time but with him it was hard to tell what is true and whats not. He was very good at snowjobs. I know I would never count on him in a pinch to serve me the 'truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth' or anything necessarily closely to it.

No, not really, insisting that others agree with your take on things, is something peculiar to The Way and a maybe few other groups whose prime concern is control.... That is The Ways way, to force people into conformity and not allow them to think for themselves and make their own decisions. I doubt that there are many people that perceive the scriptures the exact same way. Some churches view that as refreshing, I know that I do.

You dont take into consideration that actions teach much louder than words could ever speak. Sociopaths and narcissists say wonderful things all the time to ensnare people in their web, it doesnt change the legacy of despair they leave behind them. That is what they leave as 'the lesson' So what if he reads 'put away lying', but has a phony doctorate, plagiarizes books, props himself up as a biblical scholar, and lived great portions of his life in secrecy What has it he really taught other than scamming and lying your way through life is acceptable? Nice verse, but he no matter how many times I heard him read it or how many greek gyrations he danced around with it, what he taught was that it wasn't the least bit important.

Always!--Im only in disguise as a responsible adult

Im no psychologist but I think whoever it is is having difficulties with whatever their own trauma is and for some reason that is indiscernable to me is lashing out at you --maybe because you have found an outlet here to be able to open up a little and they havent?? I dunno--I really have no idea. I think the way it is worded it really is sort of a backhand slap,(or appears to be) but personally I doubt that its really about you but moreso about whoevers own unresolved anger and pain that got misplaced to you ---I wouldnt internalize it or take it to heart ...

Good for him--I was thinking something like that--infield for the Yankees or something

I might have a partial set of those songs somewhere, I saw them a few years ago and I would have to dig them out of God knows where to find them. The copies I had weren't even bound, just low quality xerox copies that were sold in the bookstore (figures) When I left for some reason I bought every last thing that I didnt have, 'just in case' I might want them someday. Well I dont really, although I do like some of the songs, If and when I find them again you are welcome to them I doubt the chorale 4 part harmonies are on any of them, they were pretty...um...rustic... in my memory. Nah, I understand what your saying. I also think that there is a certain 'folk process' that old songs can go through that can change them over generations...people remember bits and pieces, add new parts or snippets from other songs that they may think go in those songs--melodies may change as memories change--harmonies may change. My grandmother taught me songs that were probably a little different when she taught me them in her 80's, than when she first heard them in her teens...by the time I sing them to someone when I am in my 80's they will be different yet A lot of music is based in oral tradition and is passed on that way, not everything is always written down. I think that is just genuine music development and lends a certain interesting something to the history of some songs.. (and gives musicologists a good career too). Many songs are of unknown origin and come that way--but If a composer and lyricist are known I do think that it is right to credit them and respectful not to change everything that they did on a whimsey

Sad to hear Pinetop has left us... I heard this last night on Colbert, seems appropriate for anyone that may be on the verge of leaving TWI Jubilation Day Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LC_pVk6fyJk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Who did he pick? Sorry Im no help

I have no idea what a 16 year old thinks about--I suspect that may be what the teacher may want to get at. If I answered it I'd sound like a 56 year old trying to think like a 16 year old. What does he have to say about this? If I were the teacher I wouldnt care so much who it was, but the reasons that HE chose and how well he expressed it.

TWI did change whatever words didnt fit in with Wierwiellism...Amazing Grace...A Mighty Fortress..other well known songs had words changed to suit the biblical inaccuracies that TWI held. Its true enough that songs often take their melodies and rhythms from other songs but almost in all places the original writers and composers are still credited somewhere up near the title TWI stayed true to its form in its songbooks and never credited anyone that I remember.
-
At least TWI was consistant, the entire organization was built on take whatever you want and credit and pay nobody. The PFAL classes were built that way, it makes sense that the songbooks would be just as halfbaked as everything else

Amazing uke! I'm working together with a woodworker from the tiny town of Rising Fawn, Georgia, the home of one of my favorite guitar pickers, Norman Blake <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/p_YB9SC7AV4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/i9YkYWxBWNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Its one of the marks of a cult to have its own lingo to describe things.

Was he really a Bishop? Bishops generally have very large responsibilies and are pastor to several churches in a diocese of a specific geographic location. I never met him, just curious. Its not a position that is given lightly by most groups

Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine and Dr. Howard did all their work 'for duty and humanity"

Someone really needs God to tell them that? Anyone with an thimble full of common sense would know its not the brightest idea to send young girls hitchhiking across the country. No 'revelation' is necessary to know that The 'leaders'(gag) that put them in harms way are the ones that are complicit in the death and rape that occurred

That was/is the hardest part for me. I was absolutely sure that "I knew that I knew that I knew" and was very arrogant about it. When I could finally wrap my head around the idea that I really knew zilch, things actually got better for me even though it was a very hard pill to swallow. (VPW may have been right when he said '"its what you learn after you think that you know it all that counts"). It is still very hard for me to formulate any in depth biblical opinions because I have been convinced that I was so right, when I was so so wrong. I dont read the bible nearly as much as I once did and to be honest I really dont care that much about esoteric questions to argue about anymore. Thankfully Ive also been exposed to some very learned people in christian circles. Their example of living is enough to show me alot, I really dont need to know where the commas go, or memorize a zillion verses in order to feel complete anymore

I didnt mean any offense, Im just curious what they are doing now. I never knew any of them so i cant really comment on them In regards to the 'Rev" comment, I know of too many people that jumped out of TWI but decided to keep their REV title and start up basically the same type thing with a few minor differences with themselves as 'the leader'. Which at least to me makes no sense if they knew that the organization they came from was foul. I know of at least one poster here, who had a desire to serve and went back to a real seminary and got an accredited and recognized ordination, which to me was avery respectable thing to do. I really dont care that much, like I said I never knew any of them i was just curious what any of them may be doing...whatever it may be--hopefully theyve all learned enough so it just not Way 2.5

In the original its "keeds"

I really didnt need to see that... We need the VH1 special- -after the great crash and burn---What are they doing now? Do they still carry around bogus Rev. titles? are they on to other things?
