  1. enough of Arod (for now anyway), although I wonder if he will be greeted by a Madonna song during his next atbat at Fenway... .. Im off to the Fens for an afternoon game against the Twinkies -- its about as hot as the surface of the sun out there..Im gonna stay under the roof for this one I think, for once I wouldnt mind having those pool seats they have in AZ ...Talk around these parts is whether the Sox should sign Bonds --(no thanks!) ...With the Rays and Yanks playing a series Im in the strange waters of actually rooting FOR the Yankees..( for a few days anyway..)...Its a very very strange feeling to find myself yelling C'mon Derek! at the TV , then catching myself and thinking "what am I doing?"
  2. I wont say a word. Its bound to get some mileage the next time he comes to Fenway though
  3. I couldnt say, I had a way home roommate named John Knapp but being I havent seen him in nearly thirty years I couldnt tell from the photo if it was him or not....might be...might not be.Regardless his stuff still looks interesting and applicable
  4. ..they love the chief seats and to be called master..... John, we left for a reason. Go meet your neighbors(does your bible say anything about that??), take care of the widows on your street, feed some hungry people (as in real plates of food), do something for some orphans in Darfur..or ..for Christs sake do anything. But please stop sending out these cheesy infomercial letters that tell us how wonderful you are. We get it. Despite being a cult leader for 20 years, founder of a re formed cult for another 20, divorced twice and a believer in hallucinations (spiders) You are Gods only true christian messenger, the only source of real truth Ok Fine. We get it For most of us there are bigger issues than knowing where some comma is supposed to go, buying the latest ultra revelation book (that will surely change in the next few years) or taking the time to make sure your bruised ego gets the proper stroking. Move on--drop the facade and go do something good while you still can
  5. It appears not very soon, Lynn has had 20 years to think about it and is still clinging to the refuse that was The Way and spending his time pouring cheap perfume on piles of garbage. It doesnt work, It didnt work then-- it doesnt work now. Spending "20 years in top leadership" in a deformed organization is certainly nothing to be proud of, nor does it lend any whit of credibility to anything he writes, if anything the exact opposite is true. That he would try to pull rank as if he were someone of some kind of importance is somewhere between bustin out laughin funny, incredibly sad, or just making me want to vomit. Move on John, Its over, No matter what you do, you're never going to recapture the celebrity status that you once enjoyed-- We're older now and dont buy the hype If you desire to be aminister then go get an honest real education instead of playing Mr. Know It All. That act wore thin a very long time ago

    4th of July

For all its foibles and craziness I still think that this is a great place. As much as I can be totally appalled at times, I really wouldnt live anywhere else. I suppose thats what happens when you hand a country to people. The soul of America gets beat down from time to time but I think that it is still strong and will eventually find a way. I'd love to sit here on the fourth and play "stars and stripes forever",I heard this "love song" a few years back that captured a few things for me a little more honestly My Strange Nation by Susan Werner I think that the founders experiment, despite fits and stumbles is still working.. Happy Fourth Of July

    Song of the moment

    Happy Fourth Of July everyone
  9. ....and thats why you never ever leave a game early. Im sure some left to beat the rush and listened on the car radio to the greatest game that they ever missed. That sounds incredible--The RS had a similar game last year against the Orioles on Mothers Day--down 5-0 with one out, bottom of the ninth and nothing going on exploded for 6 runs and the walk off win--It will forever be known as "The Mothers Day Miracle" in these parts. Something like tha does amazing things for the psyche of a team... will it give em the oomph toget to October? tough to tell at this point, but a huge shot of adrenaline like that certainly helps
  10. Oddly Frederick Douglass was an abolitionist and didnt continue to support the marvels of slavery, nor the system that he came out of by changing a few commas and then acquiescing to its magnificence.Douglass spit out the bones, the mercury, the poisoned fish, the bait, the fishing line, the fishing hole and the whole river and then fought tirelessly against the entire system. maybe he should have had a "more positive approach" like John says, and gone back to that wonderful time <_< and just changed a few minor things here and there

    Where's Bumpy?

I thought this thread was going to be along the lines of Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego? Where's Bumpy? Senegal? France? Idaho? Germany? It would make a good board game. Wherever he is I know the wine is flowing and the food is good
  12. Im on everyones mailing list--It was actually sent to me by another Sox fan who found it on a Rays blog. the humor was good (Affleck free since 1998 ) and its the way a rivalry article should be written-nothing real harsh or stupid.. Its good to see the folks of tampa bay are enjoying their time--they should I lived in Tampa for 7 years in the 80's and enjoyed it a lot. It wouldnt be the worse thing in the world to move back ---these New England winters are just too much---. The new park would be an incentive, the one they have now is not only ugly but the way normal fly balls bounce off the catwalks--two or three more last night, and just land any old place screws up way too many games. Its supposed to be up by 2012--I think---maybe I'll take a little house on the gulf, a boat, say goodbyr to snow, get a good tan and see the Sox 9 times a year down there--and maybe I could even afford to see a yankee game once in awhile---We'll see--
  13. Well the sox melted down and got swept but they are having a great time in Tampa Bay I got this in my morning email---Ive been invited to defect to the Rays Republic
  14. I did. Thats what I heard last winter from a pretty good source who is usually accurate--- The new stadium cost a billion, ARod alone has a quarter of a billion coming his way, the money to pay for all this has to come from somewhere. I know that the Red Sox who have a much smaller stadium, already have high prices and are striving to keep up with the revenue flow of the Yankees have already announced that there will be a substantial increase in ticket costs next year in order to stay competitive with them <_< . Its perverse--It was One Dollar when I was kid Hopefully they'll still be some semi affordable tickets so families can go at least once in awhile without having to mortgage the farm
  15. I love this.. This is making the rounds--its twice on the song of the moment thread I love it.. Well... gotta go get a loaf of my bread..and I I gotta get my Fred and Wilma
  16. Thank you Geisha and also have to say I loved this from DWBH
  17. Thanks for the laugh Dooj.. When I read this--(which is the first thing that made me gag) juxtaposed against this I had to wonder what planet he was from, if he was schizophrenic and off his medication ,or if like ex said He started doing some mind altering drugs...Maybe he got bit by hallucinagenic nose spiders hallucinations. Even if someone somehow was able to stretch and distort history and reality enough to actually believe the first statement how on earth could you state the second one and still maintain the first unless you were severely imbalanced? If its laden with doctrinal error, practical error, evil, abuse, dishonesty, palgairism and rampant sexual sin ,how can it be a significant christian movement at all, never mind one the most important in history? Letters like that make me want to pull my hair out
  18. Mwah to you too excie--Congrats to Mackie for getting his chance to sit in the hallowed seats for one last time--Its always a thrill---next year (from what I hear anyway) the homeplate seats at the new place will be $3500.00.. Maybe if Hiway cant make in this year he'll treat us all to a few of those next year From what i hear and the few pics that Ive seen it is going to be quite the palace, much bigger than the old place (which was already enormous), state of the art all the way, and will probably rekindle that "Oz feeling'. I'll stay happy for now with the tiniest seats(16 1/2 inches) and cramptest space in baseball although I admit I get a little jealous at some of these places that look like they have La Z Boys for seats and enough aisle room to work on your car in between innings. Hopefully this year will create enough enthusiasm to help get the new Rays "sailboat" stadium built--Its pretty cool lookin with its retractable sail roof Im tired (im sure everyone is..)of watching balls in play bouncing off the catwalks, speakers or ceiling in tampa or pop ups going up and never coming down
  19. Is that for real $128.00? I just rented a midsize car for all of last weekend (Friday to Monday) from Enterprise for $59.00 There is a place (Zipcar) that does rent cars by the hour, but I have no idea of their rates or how it actually works. Ive seen the cars driving around with the Zipcar.com logo on them. Maybe try them Editted to include ZIPCAR LINK
  20. I read what was posted and ...
  21. Yea death threats, nobody is letting on to much..Im guessing it has somethingt to do with the fight Coco Crisp had with Tampa and maybe the general perception of the Red Sox as the big boys now...or something...security and FBI is everywhere.....anyway I hope that blows over soon--who needs crap like that ---its baseball. As far as the being on top thing---it is different----I dont know how to verbalize it---In the past there was some distant inner hope that was ignited and hung on every pitch ---even when the lineup was filled with Jose Melendez's and Darren Bragg's--at the times when you werent expected to win --but might---that gave some type of edge to the excitement. I could see it in the Tampanians (Tampons?) last night, the excitement was in that stadium--as well as it should be... I noticed last week when I was at the game yuppies sitting behind me who went on and on and on about everything under the sun except baseball (I couldnt get out of earshot) I dont know if they were even aware that there was a game going on....I was ticked---that stuff would have NEVER gone on afew years ago. I was indicative ...welll...of something..that has changed... I know that no one plays good all of the time, but I do know what to expect of these guys, or what they can do when they are on their game, and right now they are not---if they were rebuilding--well I could still enjoy just watching young ballplayers do their thing.. But this year they are really not rebuilding, they kept the entire team from last year basically---right now there is just some sort of collective --BLAH--going on. It happens every year at one point or another but when you know what they can do its not easy to watch--but hey it happens--blown saves, late innng losses, good hitters missing fastballs down the middle, failing to move the runner along, mental lapses in the field, poor managing. Hopefully they'll shake it off soon--Its gonna be exciting in the AL east this year ...it all will balance out in the end...
  22. It will be something to talk about when you are old and in your rocking chair someday regaled young uns with stories of baseball past... Red Sox have hit their mid season $uck... Half the team is in extended slumps...relief pitching is on vacation....and the FBI is traveling with the team because of death threats ( ), They'll swing out of it, but right now its no fun to watch--- It is good to see the folks in Tampa excited-- they are filling up the Trop, and involved and noisy on every pitch as they moved back into first. I honestly miss the excitement of scratching your way up the ladder. Dont underestimate the Rays --they are playing some really good baseball and have bucketloads of that youthful enthusisam that cant be bottled
  23. Thats was my point buried way back in the posts-- the Way theology ("not scriptural truth" ) opened the door for that type of thing. I.e Speak 'the word' and all is well (you can be a total screwball or criminal but that doesnt matter if you speak the word) Christ is absent (you (or VP) replace him on earth..ie no one to answer to..) .....you are righteous now(regardless of what you do) .... . .....no sense of sin or guilt...... etc etc etc.... Put together it's the theology of a seered conscience that holds no one personally responsible for their actions--if they are " spiritual" (seered) enough. What came first the theology or the actions I dont really know (chicken and egg argument) but they feed into and are inseperable from each other
