Yea the NewYork rags--you know its coming but they couldnt write about Yogi or Whitey or Yankee Staidum for one damn day? Its things like that, that get me alittle ticked at NY from time to time (Im getting better at letting it go) I do hope Paps shuts em down for the rest of the season now anyway--I fell asleep---Drew almost got to pitch?? I knew Francona cleared out the bench by the ninth---It was all a good show, some great pitching---but i'd be kicking myself if I missed Drew pitching During pregame--I think it was the very first time Ive ever seen Bob Gibson smile--but I'd still hate to face him...

I fell asleep before it was over but I was enjoying it---Im sure Hiway was eating it up....the stadium, the feel, and even his all time fave JD Drew :) hitting the tying HR. ...I got p!ssed (well saddened really) when I found out Jonathan Papelbons pregnant wife had been threatened and harassed because of an intentional misquote and incendiary headline in the Daily News. (they have nothing else to write about on AllStar GameDay?----F/U Mark Feinsand ) They were merciless on Papelbon (whatever..) but his pregnant wife?? for a misquote? at an allstar game ?<_< Took a little bit of the shine off what should have been a fun event

i thought that would chill you --it did me too I was WOWing everyone I saw for about an hour It was great to see Brooks, Bob Gibson, Willie and some of those HOFamers who you dont see very often---I couldnt believe the ballplayers that were assembled on one field. Amazin' So far so good--Ive been hearing about Ben Sheets for years but have never really seen his stuff before--it was jawdroppingly nasty

<_< How can one "blacken the memory"-if the memory includes rape or abuse? AFAIK everyone is trying to get an accurate picture so any memories that are held of VP will be truthful, accurate, full and appropriate. It would be lying about his "legacy" if rape, abuse, alcoholism, plagiarism, and molesting his daughters was NOT mentioned as part of the whole picture the way WD portrays it, it would be against the law to say anything against Caligula

That upper deck was down right spooky I was only there once for a Red Sox/Yankee weekend series (DUH!) in the early 70's which had an old timers game on Sunday. i dont remeber much of the series but the old timers game is very vivid. All the 30's/40's/50's/and 60's legends were there, stretching way back to Mrs. Ruth and Gehrig. I remember Yogi and Casey Stengel both grabbed the mikes and bantered in some unknown language for a few minutes The highlight of the afternoon was when Joltin Joe hit an incredibly sharp single (for an old man) off of (?) Whitey Ford (I think). I was up behind 3rd in that upper deck and kept getting the feeling that if I stood and didnt hang on to the railing I would tumble down the aisle and go careening over the edge to my most certain death it was like cliff climbing to get out of there. thats when the monuments were ON the field as well, and you could still watch the game from the Subway platform past right field

Some moments only come once---I wont harp on it (just steal me a chair or something if when you go ) Here it is...in the new and the old. I think (not sure--but heard it once) that the old ones were covered in copper which gave it the green patina. Thankfully the upper deck isnt as steep as it used to be, As i remeber it it was like walking down a cliff and seemed as high as Everest

Now that he's got some national spotlight he is bound to be a new media darling You cant help but like him, his story, bringing his old coach, and that sweet sweet sound of the crack of his bat...that is really sumpthin to hear A few of those into center I thought went out--as in out to the subway in right center--just flippin WOW When Ortiz got up and walked by him into the clubhouse about halfway through the first round, I think Papi knew-- it was symbolic in a way that the torch had passed to a new face, a new personality and a new story... Go Josh! i tried to tell you last winter---I know what it means to you--Mortgage the cat, get a cheap flight and get thee on a plane--you have about 3 months. I promise despite all the BS to do it, it will be worth it. Tickets

You dont think that the litigious happy Way International wouldnt come after these 'offenders' if that was the case and they had a leg to stand on legally? They know very well what is being said here. They're not complaining-at least not with any real teeth in it. They'd love to shut this place down, but chances are they've weighed the risks of legal action and know that there is a very high likelihood that they would lose..In which case their whole organization would be totally f*cked as their founders record would be on public display so they let it slide because they as well know that its true

No inerrancy for me, I think there is a lot of archetypical people, situations and wisdom in the bible that is a part of, and practical toward any life, without over reverencing every comma, or getting lost in the oceans of religious stew and hyperbole that surrounds it Whether there was an actual historical Jesus or he is a composite of figures and stories (like Robin Hood) Im not really sure, but The messages repeat over and over throughout history. :) Maybe it was, If Jesus had lived in Detroit in the 60's, he may had this message.. FOUR TOPS VIDEO To me its the same message. Dont get me wrong, Jesus said some great things but I wouldnt argue over bible inerrancy anymore than I would the inerrancy of The Four Tops. Fighting over commas and dates misses the entire point

... I havent heard anything about Howard--and everyone is mum on Ortiz -so all we have at this point is speculation (as in every July). Adam Dunn of the Reds might be interesting and alot cheaper than Howard but so far either Drew or Youkilis have been doing fine in Ortiz's three hole--- so for all I know the Red Sox may havea totally different set of priorities, There are other needs --The bottom third of the lineup has become mostly a black hole and middle relief has been at the best spotty. Varitek is OK bat or no bat, but no one would miss if Julio Lugo got sent somewhere, although I doubt anyone would take him at 9m/year for 3 more years <_< ........ .....Its good to see Washington is having an impact...I see it so much in Francona that the managers job is so much more than filling out a lineup card and strategic moves but moreso daily dealing with 25 diverse personalities and making them enjoy playing...In Tito's tenure there has been near zero whining or complaining which used to be the main staple of Boston baseball. Thank God thats over, baseball is meant to be fun--glad the texans are finding that out--Its good for everybody..... anyway---the 'friend' who earlier in the year promised me the AllStar tickets, that I talked about here- reneged,so I'll be watching on the box like yous guys. His "friendship" is gonna stay in quotes for awhile--maybe until delivers some lobsters from Maine

After the last few years of hard goings its good to see that they are finally having some fun down the in Texasland, to me it makes all the difference. It was when the RedSox started to have fun playing baseball (The Idiots of '04) is when they started to win. The fun is is contagious , baseball should always be fun They look formidable at the plate ---i wish I got the chance to see them more often. I guess I get a little sneak peek this week I'd be curious if you have any insights what turned them around (obviously Hamilton for one). What poison left? whose the spark? Somethins going on in Texas that looks like fun--enjoy it! There are ofthand remarks around here to get Texiera sice Ortiz is out,My initial reaction, especially after seeing what happened to your guys when he left) is Noooooooo

No one has any reason to believe this until it is upheld in a court of law apparently--or so the logic goes anyway-if you do see Bob WD ---Ask him to stop mumbling

Wow sorry Hiway thats a tough one-When you mentioned him earlier in the year I knew how much he meant to you, and Im sure tons of others our age. Its amazing to me how ballplayers can fill other very important roles that need to be filled for the young that go far beyond the baseball diamond I remember those Horace Clark, Roy White, Mel Stottlemyre, Stan Bahnsen, Mike Kekich, Lindy McDaniel, Fritz Peterson era Yankees..From early in his rookie year Murcer was always touted as the leader. Im sorry for your loss and My condolences to the Murcer and Yankee families Lifetime Stats Page

Ive mentioned before on this thread that i am partial to home made music, street musicians and music that I just happen upon. today I was surprised at the park to hear local eccentric/virtuoso Peter Blanchette playing Elizabethan and medieval tunes on his one of a kind 11 string archguitar at the next picnic table. It was like walking directly into the 1500's i found a video of him playing a few Bach Tunes--hes much better in person--and better yet under some shade trees with a mountain backdrop

As far as I know nobody is accusing you of being either truthful or honest. Most people would welcome that here as a positive change. Its the facades that people object to

That argument doesnt work Wierwille is not being charged with any crime, he is dead. Dead men dont have constitutional rights, will not be tried in courts and there'll be no lawyers, no judges no sentencing. As far as all your pseudo concern for rights, gimme a break, that doesnt work either, you dont seem too concerned for the rights of Wierwilles victims, every time you denounce them you in effect charge them with a crime. They are guilty of lying until they can prove otherwise? Innocent until proven guilty applies only to a select few in your book?

In an effort to move this thread back up. I thought I'd share a piece of music that gave me chills today by an underrated composer whoi is generally not known for his classical pieces. Art or Chaos? Mystery or ??

it was worth it --but it was a test of endurance--I went through about a fourteen waters at $4.00 a pop. but there was a lot of activity in the game to keep me interested if uncomfortable 23 runs, 34 hits, a few outfield assists, a triple play that after some discusssion wasnt (then the Sox tacked on 7 more runs during the inning) ....everyone seemed to have gotten 2,3,or4 hits. Im still recovering--it still bewilders me that the RS can be so bad on the road (3-7 last trip) then come and demolish anyone (sweeping the Twins , who have been on an 18-3 run)
-
Speaking of convection ovens---I'll have to talk later --just got home from the 18-5 shellacking of the Twins ---100plus degrees, air quality the worst of the year---I'm melting and have a2 1/2 hour drive home. Good game--glad your havin fun in Tejas--but Im also glad that I dont have to go to games there--today was enjoyable but flippin brutal

:) --Funny--I think the same about the Brewers..to this day I still think of them as an AL team, and then in mid thought adjust... It would be good for them and good for baseball if they make a long run this year... They seem like good fans--I mentioned earlier in the year that there was a slew of them that made the trip for the Brewer/ Sox series which is no small outlay of $$$. The ones I met all seemed like good folks... As far as the Yankees rooting..Im sure I must have rooted for them somehwere along the line in the past no doubt--but after the last 5, 6 or 10 years of always battling them it was a seismic shift for me that was hard to explain. I realized how much I know about these guys and how familiar I am with them(as much as the Red Sox just about). Ive always respected them, just wanted them to fail, Its a little different when you know their strengths and are pulling for them to succeed. Its like seeing the otherside of someone who youve been at ods with for along time or something...
