  1. Yup Charlie Zink is getting his first major league start tonight against Tom's stRangers. Hes been doing well at Pawtucket...What I hear is his knuckler doesnt have the violent breaks that Wakefields does but is more of a "tumbler", throws it harder than him too ( ie that must bring it up to near 60mph :) )...If he can keep it close against hitters like the rangers have and go 6+ tonight I'll be happy ..FWIW I may be wrong but I dont think Kazmir has been doing that great lately either.. ...I was thinking of mentioning the RedSox on that cult definition thread... Where are you anyway?--you have to be close in to Boston if the Globes are gone by 10--Im in the Berkshires myself --out here nobody wakes up until 10
  2. Good luck to her! I just read about THIS GUY. How exactly do you train for your whole life then FORGET TO SHOW UP for the event?

    Song of the moment

Good Morning! Is it too early for Sam and Dave?
  4. He'll do that. I thought that the "I want to end my career in LA" followed a week later by the stories he was going to sign with the yankees in the offseason was good myself..Let us know if he makes any cutoffs on throws from center--he dove from left to cutoff a throw from center a few years ago-which has to be one of my personal Manny favorites. Dunn should be good fit for the Snakes, although he hasnt done much since the all star break We'll see whats up with the Rays-they just lost Crawford and Longoria on consecutive days to the DL Its crunch time!
  5. Maybe its the advantage of being in the NLWest, any other contenders may have not gotten a chance before the DBacks swiped him....at least Im guessing that.. I havent seen the Globe story yet --but that is one ambitious plan, Sabathia, Sheets and AJ Burnett? That would change things a little in Tejas, personally I kinda doubt you'll get all 3 but (its a little early to announce off season signings quite yet aint it? But a good move by Presidente Ryan to keep the fans enthused I hope they do do some spending down there.. C.C's gonna be expensive --- Sheets is comin here, I had first dibs. Sox finally looked good last night, being perfect gamed they opened up for 5 late, and Beckett was in real Beckettform, They are 7-3 since "The Day"
  6. I couldnt tell you why no one else grabbed Dunn-- Hes been in my sights for awhile, Im pretty sure that Mastersons gonna stay in the 'pen especially with Hansen now gone. Zink is starting tonmorrow, I have afeeling Bowden may be up soon.... ..Im in a real dilemma at the moment--a one run game in the seventh and the one other great sport of our day and time--womens beach volleyball--on the other channel--sometimes a guy really needs two TV's.
  7. Id love to be getting to a game this week but unless something unforeseen happens its not going to happen for the stRangers, next scheduled game for me is the BJays on Sunday (although Id rather see Hobbs and Kinsler...) Looks like yous guys are going to get Charlie Zink's first major league start tomorrow, he's another knuckleballer..Which makes me wonder when was the last time a knuckleballer went on the DL and was replaced by another knuckleballer? that doesnt happen everyday. For that matter when was the last time any team had two? Kinsler sounds great to watch, somewhere between the "Idiots" of '04 and now for the most part the Red sox have transformed from a fun loving bunch who loved to play baseball into a group of too many 'serious professionals". I still love the game, but that aspect of simplicity which brought another dimension of enjoyability with it, isnt the way it was and I certainly miss...I'll be watching--he sounds like fun Adam Dunn should help out the DBacks, Rocky must be liking that. Ive always liked him even though he K's a ton--he walks a helluva lot too so id take him..in fact I wish we had.... ..the 'Nation" is just who we are..its not any specialer than any other fans..ie the bleacher creatures in the stadium , or the bleacher bums in Wrigley..or whatever they call anyone else...its just who weve been since it was coined in the 80's--.in fact i wish theyd tone the hype down ----you can blame your guy Dr Steinberg for going overthe top hyping it--thats what he does--Im surprised he hasnt come up with some moniker for the Dodgers yet, or maybe he has and it just hasnt filtered over this way yet.. Anyway-besides Happy birthday--whats going on over there? Is Manny mania still hot or has it cooled down yet? I had no idea the Angels still had those monkeys--i guess I'll be seeing em in force come October
  8. No comment--Ive been bahaving myself pretty much this year I knew that would heat things up alittle Lots of people in these parts are lustin for Dustin, thats not to put Kinsler down in anyway, its just when you see a guy who is maybe 5'5" play with the passion he does day in and day out (current 29 game road hitting streak) it gets mighty catchy. As far as the stRangers series this week, your hittin us at the right time..where we started the season with 7 maybe 8 starters --we're down to 3 at the moment. Wakefield's on the DL (joining Colon), Buchholz is caving in rapidly and is basically useless at this point, of course Schilling is long gone..--You'll get at least one AAA guy (no word who yet) which could make for a nice whiz bang game at the Fens on Tuesday. Mike Lowell needs a wheelchair but never takes a day off-they need to sit him for awhile and move Bay (who is playing well) up to Manny's spot in the lineup and Ukelele at 3rd. We'll hopefully see it by manana when your guys come in....Im looking forward to seeing your big bats up close--but even more so your pitching! Who the heck is the pitching coach over there? do they have one? Whilke geisha is here I may as well do my sales pitch for my tickets to the Sox at Camden Yards next week which I cant get to....could be fun--baseball and crabcakes ---lemme know and last but not least Happy Birthday Hiway (do I dare-----ahh what the hell) from all of Red Sox Nation
  9. I like the sports ive never seen before, Im watching some strange cross between basketball and soccer right now. I have no idea what it is but Korea is beating Germany. One thing about the opening ceremonies that spooked me was the number of countries I had never heard of --there was probably 10, maybe more--- .... entering the stadium is the contingent from Tuvalu..and now.... the athletes from Nauru.....followed by Sao Tome and Principe Wha? I really gotta get out more

    Song of the moment

That would be "Living In the Past"
  11. I dont recall anything about slavery, the Civil war, the burning of the city, or racism during the opening of the 96 Atlanta Olympics either, if thats what you're asking. The opening is a grand welcome to the entire world whicch imo they did incredibly well I watched the whole thing and was amazed at the scope and precision FWIW I know it was a 'show' but I was very impressed. It would have made the ancient Egyptians envious. My recurring thought while watching was that this country will be ruling the world soon..
  12. Well I had a good Little League game yesterday watching the kids from Connecticut come back in the 6th against New Hampshire to clinch their spot in Williamsport in a good 2-1 win.. last week Manny wanted to end his career in LA, I see today he wants to sign with the Yankees--- Welcome to Manny World :) When he went on a AAA rehab assignment a few years ago, he didnt want to come back because he really liked playing there---theres no telling what he'll want to do tomorrrow. Red Sox finally beat a decent team in the White Sox, although I felt bad watching Jose Contreras going down with a ruptured achilles tendon--thats gotta hurt--not good for the WS either. ..after watching the opening Olympic ceremonies I wont be surprised if China rules the world sometime soon. That ceremony would have made the ancient egyptians envious.

    The Rules

It shouldnt be hard to define personal attacks at all just watch for them and enforce them in my book. Who needs to 'define' them? We're old, if we cant spot one by now theres not that much hope we ever will no matter how much effort goes into defining it. Just about Any point of view can be presented if its written in a respectful and civil way. If someones point of view is based on calling into question someone elses integrity, demeaning other posters(say by saying something meant to be obnoxious like--they carry their God on a stick..) then that is a personal attack --strike one --delete the post. No questions , No BS. If they bitch about it strike two etc Let them figure out how to present their POV without being so friggin lazy about it that they have to resort to being 7 year olds. Enoughs enough I said in an earlier post that I think it would raise the quality of the posting around here, if people were forced to actually make cogent arguments. Too many posters seem to fall into the low raod as a pattern out of habit. Theres no need for it
  14. I was very surprised the last time I saw Lackey-Ive nearly really seen that much in him before but he near no hit the Red Sox the last time in --and the Angels--just looked very very good---And even though some guys are having not their best years, Scioscia knows his team, gets the most out of them and plays them well.. I wouldnt be surprised to see a --what would you call it--it wouldnt be a subway series since theres no subway--a "Sunshine and Palm Tree Series"? Well -I suppose i would be a little surprised, Im just irrationally hoping the Dodgers go on a good run... Sounds like a great way to spend an August day in Ca. --If your goin' neutral wear your dreads! Hopefully you'll get something memorable, Jeter with the patented going away over the shoulder catch, or one of those long beautiful throws by Vlad from deep right to nail the runner at third... along with an interesting game.. have fun out there

    The Rules

Seems to me that is already technically covered in the rules (be courteous, be respectful..etc) and to me those attack posts say much more about continued dysfunction of those posters than those that they attack. The rules might need a little tweaking (like you said --common decency should be enough but it seems some people are lacking.) I think they are simple now but thorough enough, just need some real enforcement Those types of attack posts would do well to just be completely deleted immediately no questions asked, no warnings imo before the thread devolves, if they try it gain or argue about it then strike two, if they lose thier minds, respect for the site and other posters and persist all over the forums --then see ya Three strikes would work for me before a suspension -- occasionally people say things inadvertantly or are having a cranky day. Anyone should be able to get it by the second time around. Three strikes is being incredibly gracious. I belong to another site that has a waiting list to join (sometimes several years) , a very strict probationary period and then you can get bounced at anytime if you screw up.. One reason that site is so good and in demand is that the moderators are not afraid to come down like a hammer immediately if necessary. I dont really care what the new rules here are, just enforce them, quickly, swiftly and with no apologies
  16. Im with Hiway in that the guy gives me the creeps...as do just about all of those mega church guys, or anyone who goes into ministry for fame and fortune Who knows what happened on the plane? --but if they were so upset about a stain on a seat that they had to be removed from the plane and delay the flight 2 1/2 hours -then to me they just might have their christian priorities slightly askew <_< --but I already surmised that
  17. I heard about the $125,000 in Manny shirt sales in the first 2 or 3 days. There is something electric about him that can energize a whole city and fan base--he did it in Cleveland, he definitely did it here and now you guys are getting a taste. I dont know how many games Ive watched over the years that could be 13-2 in the eighth, I have to be somewhere but Im staying because Manny's coming up next inning. i dont remember any other player ever having that effect on me. Owell Right now I want to see it all continue and grow out there and watch the Dodgers to make the playoffs--just so you know what Ive been futilly trying to say on this board for the last umpteen years--and so I get to see him in playoff mode again-its abeautiful thang
  18. I doubt that that there is even a .000000000000001 % chance that Selig would ever do anything but FWIW HERE is a link. Of course the story is coming from Dan Shaugnessy one of the handful of media hacks that demanded that the trade be made in the first place...In my book I'd run him, Gammons, and a few others as far away from baseball coverage as possible --like maybe a nice assignemnet in Fallujah--for stirring a nonexistent situation into this fiasco. ANYWAY---- enough of that- Whether its two months or five years, whether hes talking on his cell phoe, doing the wave with the fans or driving the ball 500 feet enjoy him while you can and enjoy the ride -you have a very special ballplayer on your hands.. -Im not happy right now--The Red Sox dont deserve me, Hell I want to be traded to the Dodgers :)
  19. i was watching on ESPN when that happened last night-- that was one brutal and strange collision for both of them--Im used to occasionally seeing guys get bowled over but when the hit like two immovable walls. I knew that couldnt be good--Hopefully they'll both ( er make that Murphy....my guys need all the help they can get) will be back soon... He is a natural and has the most natural swing Ive ever seen--but contrary to popular opinion Manny works very hard, to me alot of it is his demeanor and natural humanness or as Tom was saying afew posts back being in the moment. ...........Im growing really sick of the whole thing, Bud Selig is investigating the trade now to see if the whole thing was on the up and up or if Boras played Manny and the Red Sox to get him out of his option years. That and another board that I go to (people'd by among others a certain big mouth pitcher) is developing some nasty racial undertones. Problems that I hadnt seen visible in these parts for a number of years are coming back. I just want to watch baseball. I waited along time for the Red Sox to come to their golden era and for all I know it could be over now. (In case you forgot-the last time they traded away a fun loving, problem child slugging baseball savant it took them 86 years to recover) There is a lot happening under the covers right now which doesnt look good or feel right. Im finding them hard to watch right now---sort of like a girlfriend youve had for years who went over the line that you still care about--just cant bear to be around her right now...I have some things to sort out before I go back to where I just got a knife through the heart Loves a good thing but boy it sucks sometimes --I'll get over it, until then Im watching the Sox from a distance..I watched a good little league game last night, The Rangers/Yanks the night before. The Olympics are here-maybe I'll get distracted by beach volleyball or something for a few weeks until I feel normal again
  20. For your viewing pleasure Home Run Derby - 1959 - Mickey Mantle Vs Willie Mays -Wrigley Field, LA Part 2 I dont know if its charisma or how you would exactly define it, you're getting it all now-- Manny is just fun, There is a lot of the childhood joy of baseball with him around that too often eludes the sometimes much too serious 'professionals'.

    The Rules

I dont think it has to go that way if it were possible that people could remain respectful within their differences--but they dont and that imo is where the messes always start (isnt that Already covered in the rules?). I would expect that no matter what the rules turn out to be or even they remain the same that the hardest part is going to be enforcement. Pawtucket's a nice guy, not exactly a Tony Soprano type enforcer and for the most part bends over backwards not to disrupt things around here. Whatever the rules turn out to be--Enforce them precisely and sharply--a strike is a strike and three strikes and your out. Thats not unfair at all--dems rules. IMO It would elevate the quality of the topics, the noise would be weeded out and it would reflect much better on greasespot as a whole either that or if its going to go the way it has been have a separate fight forum (The Cage Match?)some place protected where two can spit, kick, bite scratch and disembowel each to their hearts content away from the forums
  22. That idea that the lion will one day lay down with the lamb is pretty strong image for the bible folks to hope for after seeing video like that--- I dont see it actually happening myself but Im sure it offers hope for a change from the harshness of life for a lot people
  23. pffffflt--- baseball is a great game but a crazy game... everything was lining up according to plan--spending my time figuring how to tweak the lineup a little and out of nowhere... stupid sh!t just stupid sh!t completely stupid sh!t now 7 million dollars PLUS A rookie outfielder hitting .300 with power PLUS a 24 yo who throws 98 PLUS the 2 draft choices they would have gotten for Manny PLUS my favorite player of all time are all gone for Jason Bay Yea Bays good but It would have been nice to get some parts we actually needed, instead of breaking up the Ruth and Gehrig of our time. Im having a real hard time watching em right now-- I think Im gonna go watch little league for awhile I'll try-- It might take me awhile I really hate stupid sh!t
  24. I heard Wierwille say many times to "Present your bodies a living sacrifice... anybody can die!, its says to live! you're no good to God dead" --- or some variation on that... seems like everytime he read that section of Romans he'd go way out of his way to overemphasize his take on the 'Living' part of it, I dont recall once ever hearing him make a big deal (or any deal at all)out of the 'sacrifice' part--he always skipped right over that
