  1. and who would have bet on the Rays? The Tigers had it all won on paper in March.... ya just never know bout nuffin... I gotta admit Im a little excited -- glad Im going to be seeing October baseball in these parts
  2. Thank You Mod --Id be for adding "staying on topic" into the new rules (of course this post is offtopic from the thread ) ---- I agree with that statement, WayBrain is what it is, People were involved in the way and developed mental habit patterns based on their association. Its not a derogatory term so much an authenticate and analyzable state of mind. It could easily be applied to 'CatholicBrain" EpiscopalianBrain", EngineerBrain, "ComputerGeekBrain" or MomBrain. Since we were all involved its worth thinking about. If WD wants to add his two cents of what it WAS/IS in his opinion then thats on topic .
  3. No number 23 for Cliff Lee tonight --tough loss as the Indians left the bases loaded in both the 7th and the 8th sorry Cliff but--- on the plus ++ side officially PLAYOFF BOUND IN BOSTON!! :eusa_clap:
  4. Ithought you may like that especially after the rave reviews of Crazy 08 last winter from you. I dont know if there has been a change but SABR (at least The Deadball Era wing) is making many of their past publications available for free now. HERE (then choose the issues from the right column. They are usually by subscription only --they are an excellent source of good historical research. I suppose that I should note that the Merkle game was 100 years ago TODAY--in fact probably right about now ...I'll be hoping Joe and Manny do the trick--I want to see them at least a few times in the first round--and hopefully more
  5. It will be good to see him as i havent seen him all year ans rarely (have i ever?? -eh maybe Ron Guidry in '78) seen anyone at 22-2. The Red Sox are totally unpredictable at this point they could either fold like little leaguers against Lee or knock him out in the third. Wakefield who's pitching has been he same way, I saw him pitch a 3 hit shutout then next time out get knowed out after 1 2/3 --so tonight there is no telling--although I'll have to give a big edge up to Lee.
  6. I'll take the TShirt--- Hell I'll donate to a billboard
  7. Yea the Red Sox hardly looked "championship caliber" last night. They are a frustrating group--- flashes of brilliance then lose tons of one run games squandering chance after chance...It would be easy to blame that umpire play --but with the number that they left on base its just not worth the effort.. Your man Cy Lee goes for --what is it now #23 tonight?. I know there are a few history buffs among us. I just got the new SABR FRED MERKLE edition from the Deadball Era Committee. If anyone wants some interesting reading on the '08 (1908 that is) season and more than you ever thought possible to know about Fred Merkle click on the above link
  8. Why dont you all Renew Your Mind, this is off the word and you'll leave your trap door open if you continue.. :) I think I got 1, 2, 4 and 6 in one sentence
  9. 12-7 it is then If you hit that on the money we'll promote you to a Wall Street CEO -Their predictions havent been very good lately :)
  10. I'd take that--although with Josh Beckett pitching tonight I hope they dont light him up for 7 runs. He's been having what for him is an off year, but the last 3 or 4 starts -he has been finally showing his "Playoff" Beckett form...Im hoping that he keeps that up tonight.
  11. ...and the Sox go for the playoff spot clinch tonight... The division is not out of the question, and I still would like to see them get it, but more importantly Id rather see them get everyone as healthy as possible and the pitchers all lined up. The AL playoffs (at least) are going to be tough-real tough
  12. The Yankees arent technically eliminated yet either. After yesterdays all day "final game" at Yankee Stadium it would be a little awkward to come back and do it all again
  13. Im watching too and although it is very moving I know that I dont have near the emotional attachment to it that you or other real Yankee fans would have. I know this has to be tough. If there is one redeeming factor to this whole thing--and we have discussed this a number of times--I think the new stadium will not only be a big improvement but will also recreate some of the feel of the pre-renovation stadium. Which by my limited way of thinking is the one that people really loved. ...and Im sure if you keep your eyes open after tonight you'll be able to find bricks, seats and all sorts of memorabilia for sale
  14. About a week ago I posted that video of Paul Byrd tipping piches-- Glad to say the video made it to the Red Sox and Byrd was able to adjust his delivery in time to win his next outing Boston Herald Welcome to Boston Paul :) Who says messageboards dont have an impact?
  15. It will be interesting (and historic) Andy Pettite is starting ...there is alot of buzz at the Orioles sites as well. Its hard to believe its happening--- someone is going to get the last hit., throw the last pitch, make the last out etc. If it is at all possible they should let Rivera throw the last pitch imo. I remember that as well, I dont know how accurate this video is, but you would at least get a glimpse if it is right.

    Song of the moment

Thanks Chas I am a big fan of Celtic music ---in all its forms--Its in my blood Heres some Tannahill Weavers (not the best quality-but theres nothing like a searing bagpipe for me !) Geese In The Bog/ Jig Of Slurs Bulwinkl-Great to hear some Wizard again Heres Phil and Johnny Cunningham (no valiums here)
  17. Now you know how I felt all those years watching him and trying to explain what it was like. There is something absolutely great and electrifying about watching Manny hit. As Ive said about a million times he is the best pure hitter I have ever seen I just checked his stats --49 RBI in 47 games for the Dodgers--.404-16 HRS--.490 OBP Projected over a season those are some sick stats. I still think he has a shot at being in the top five in the MVP voting. Whatever you do--just keep him happy out there--and he'll keep it up
  18. They are letting in fans at 1PM (for an 8:15 game) and are allowing them to go to Memorial Park and walk the warning track. Given that is more than 7 hours before the game Im sure they will do alot of things. I found this at the Post http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/yankees/arc..._stadium_g.html
  19. Yea Im glad they did that--If I ever find myself in the Bronx I'll definitely step up to that plate. For anyone who may be in moourning (or still fighting disbelief), the put up the big sign on the new place the other day Newday has some good photos
  20. Thanks Kimberly --Im glad your sons had a memorable time. The rest of us can catch the last last last last game Sunday night on ESPN. FWIW, the old stadium is going to be dismantled piece by piece, not imploded like some places. The city elected to keep the field add two more and surround it with 12,000 trees. In a few years it will look like this: . If you're of the mind you'll be able to step up to the plate where so much history was made when you are in the Bronx--which certainly beats putting up a parking lot
  21. I read where Manny was offered a day off and refused saying "No-- Im Cal Ripken' I miss Manny being Manny

    Song of the moment

    Frankie Newton Orchestra--Romping
  23. I missed that moment (had a visitor and was trying to watch over her shoulder ) I only caught the last few innings for real. What happened Did a ball just appear? The Trop is strange enough with balls bouncing off the catwalks. Ive seen more than one flyball go up and never come down..
