They probably will--and i'll be there--I suppose there is a reason they give you a few days between series to adjust to it--most teams fans have already had at least 3 weeks, some much more -----Ive had about 9 hours ---gimme a minute to get a little enthusiasm generated I cant shift that fast....... I like the Rays and they seem unbeatable but in another sense I'd like to see the fans of Philly have something to hang their hat on---theyve paid their dues for a long time...

I have no reason to be broken hearted, none what so ever, but this is one of my favorite baseball pieces for the end of a season The Greenfields Of The Mind From A Great and Glorious Game: Baseball Writings of A. Bartlett Giamatti

You bet we will Geish! Im looking forward to that cold April opener in Fenway, bundling up in sweatshirts and longjohns and seeing it allllll happen and unfold again...getting to know the new faces and facing the season with a combination of uncertainty and excitement Maybe its a New England thing-due to the cold harsh winters that make it such a passionate fanatical thing around here--Its a kind of family -a kind of insanity and it makes life great. I probably like you should take up skiing or snowshoeing or something to fill the winter, it gets long cold and grey without that extra oomph everyday. i read alot in winter but that doesnt always cut it Maybe it'll be The Bruins...that could be fun..theyve been looking good and my hockey fandom has lapsed since the Bobby Orr days---I may have to rekindle that :) no matter what I'll definitely be counting the days until I can next hear Remy saying "Buenos Noches Amigos!" By then even the Foxwoods commercials wont seem so bad!--I even miss the Sullivan Tire guy Its been a good year!! I hope you stick around for the hotstove league -or at least pop in once in awhile Geisha--I enjoy your company, its good to have kindred onboard. Stay warm and cozy Next year we get em! AND as Ive been saying since mid May about the Rays--they should fold any day now-- BUT they're not gonna----Rays in 5--- B.J. Upton MVP I'll be watchin' but its just a leeeeeedle bit different

been there Tommy--Thats why I get so excited during these things-You never know when they'll come again-there is no reason to hold anything back. The tough part of this is waking up and realizing that, like the rest of you, Im now waiting until mid February for spring training...and that day to day comfort, familiarity and fascination of watching a simple game has turned the seasons and now winter is almost upon me....and thats it.. it's over...just like that ..darn...I need more baseball Like I said a few posts ago there are some changes to be made--will Varitek be back? Thats a big question mark which would mark the end of an era, Mike Timlin will be gone after 6 years, and there are definite holes to fill... Time to get a log on the fire --this is gonna be an interesting Hot Stove League--for the Red Sox and for alot of teams That was a good journey --Its a long long way from that trip to Japan in March and the game in the LA Colosseum that we talked about here.

not quite a payback since the bases werent exactly loaded---the little box you like so much ticked me off throughout the whole series Im fine, i cant complain -I love October baseball, the heavy intensity, the highs and lows that are incredibly magnified and all that--and I got more than my fair share, Thats my 4th 7th game in 6 years. When you get to play this late, its a little disapponting not to go all the way --but mostly it is reason to be thankful for a very enjoyable and exciting season. Hats off to the Red Sox--thanks again for a great, fun, enjoyable, and exciting season. With all the crazy things that are going on in the world Im very thankful to have one place i can go that keeps me not only sane but happy as well. They done good I'll miss it tomorrow when there is no game, of course, but for now just--thanks

:( well the day wasnt a total loss--I helped raise 40K for the homeless this afternoon. That helps. Sox came up one miracle short this year...I hated the lineup today--I would have had Lowrie in instead of Cora --but what are you gonna do.... Congrats again to the Rays--they'll be a tough team for a long time---I'll pick 'em in The WS. Time for us to rebuild--too many holes--the bottom of the lineup was a blackhole for the entire series On the plus side no more FrankTV ads and no more TBS until next October. I guess TBS can restart the Steve Harvey Show now

All year ive been saying "its early yet" Its still too early in the season to sit There's at least 6 outs left. EDIT:Did that third strike to Drew look a foot outside to you? every time I want a replay they never show one

Game 7: Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility: But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage; Then lend the eye a terrible aspect; Let pry through the portage of the head Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it As fearfully as doth a galled rock O'erhang and jutty his confounded base, Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean. Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide, Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit To his full height. On, on, you noblest English. Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof! Fathers that, like so many Alexanders, Have in these parts from morn till even fought And sheathed their swords for lack of argument: Dishonour not your mothers; now attest That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you. Be copy now to men of grosser blood, And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman, Whose limbs were made in England, show us here The mettle of your pasture; let us swear That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not; For there is none of you so mean and base, That hath not noble lustre in your eyes. I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start. The game's afoot: Follow your spirit, and upon this charge Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Im involved in a walk for The Homeless today so I get to not think about it for a few hours, but to be honest after game 5- It has never entered my mind--not once, not a single time..... The Rays had their chance -up by 7 with 7 outs to go. We were out, down and dead. I congratulated the Rays on this thread. As far as Im concerned we are playing free baseball now on their dime and have nothing to lose. The dead dont get raised everyday and not to no purpose Ive seen what this team can do and Im feeling good Jon Lesters been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year and the Rays are shook and very very nervous I have full faith in Jon Lester--its his turn now

Well that was tense for me I cant believe TBS interrupted the Steve Harvey Show Those Steve Harvey fans must be upset --seriously I would have hate to have owned a Sports Bar last night--Riots could have broken out...... I'd be curious what you guys on the outside are thinking , as you might be able to tell (smirk) Im a little too emotionally involved to have an objective viewpoint right about now, although Im starting to tone down alittle this morning. I dont know why the Red Sox have to go to the brink of elimination when they make it to the ALCS, it puts every cell of my body and every nerve on hyper alert and the adrenaline flows so I could tear down a forest. Im normally relatively mild mannered Clark Kent compared to what happens in October when as Terry Francona said the other night "Everything comes unglued" This is thursday from a fans view--I played 1:47, over and over and over ---Euphoric crazy thankful blind love takes over. Theres no way you can put that moment in a bottle or experience it anywhere else as far as I can tell... I hope we're not being obnoxious to the rest of you, but to be on the inside boy o boy this is fun.....Its worth whatever you have to do to get to this place...

YES!!!!! I can breathe again! I was worried about all those LOB's, and thought I was going to throw up through the middle innings... PHEWWW----I love this!! I need some Dirty Water What is better than a Game 7??? and Tom we won in 04 and 07 We got the odds and eves covered... Damn I love baseball.....
-
Yea i was a little bent out of shape to expect to see game 6 of the ALCS and see a sitcom---I havent been able to sleep and have been pacing all day---I wrote about 5 letters to TBS and one to Bud Selig right away.... Im all better now although on all sorts of pins and needles...every pitch seems to take a century....but Im feeling good about this game.....
-
WTF? TBS IS SHOWING A STUPID SITCOM :realmad:

I spent most of yesterday high fiving complete strangers, hugging waitresses, and talking sox with everyone from priests to plumbers....theres a palpable BUZZ on now everywhere I go The giant has awoken We got us a game 6 today Theres a bit of an eerie parallel ALCS Game 6, 2004 -- We had our injured ace pitcher starting in an elimination game after getting shelled in his last start. ALCS Game 6 2008 ---We have our injured ace pitcher starting in an elimination game after getting shelled in his last start. Ive got the feeling we're gonna see the nasty, squint eyed, batter leering, whoop a$$ing redneck dont eff with me side of Josh Beckett tonight Im pumped and Im ready This ones for 'Nuf Ced' McGreevey After the *snap* of the Yankees Game 7 win in 2003, it almost seems like The Sox have turned into Jason from Friday the 13th. You knock them down. Set them on Fire. Run them over. Say "There's no way that they survived that". --NYYFans 10/16/08

:) I told you this is when it just starts to get good Geish Feeling better now?? Tampa has a long flight to sit and think about it and the Red Sox have an angry Josh Beckett wanting to redeem himself. Can you imagine the thoughts that are going through the tampa bullpen as they fly home?? A sleeping giant has awakened a dam near corpse has been raised from the dead I like our chances...I like em a lot Theyre in the groove to play it one single pitch at a time, ---just the way it works the best

Last year doesnt matter now. This is this year, this is tonight, which right now, is all I care about. All those games of the past were great--and Im thankful for them, but this hasnt been an easy season and the way Tampa has played for 6 months I doubt that anyone is calling the the favorites for tonight. Its an uphill road but one Ive been down before and one that is difficult. The Sox started the season with 3 World Series MVP's that arent with the team right now --Schilling, Lowell, and Manny.. Kotsay whos playing first is a reserve outfielder, Varitek is going through a divorce and has been basically useless at the plate most of the season, Ortiz is playing while injured and the other WS MVP Josh Beckett--is also injured---Drew has herniated discs in his back--and the starting shortstop (Lugo) has been out for the season long ago. The guy they were counting on to pitch and win who threw a no hitter last year, Buchholz, was last seen in AA. Most of these things happened after they were already behind to the Rays who were never as bad as people made them out to be..The Rays beat not only the Red Sox in the regular season but the Yankees as well They are a good team. So I would say that no matter what the sox did last year tonight, there will be some, probably many, that say they are underdogs some wont because of what they did 12 months or 4 years ago whatever --it doesnt really matter to me--what other people think --if they love them or hate them--or are indifferent to them. I still love October baseball and I love the Red Sox Im here and Im watching now, and really I dont care if they are underdogs or overdogs, these games are all special, very special-- and if the magic of these moments happens to conjure up a vivid memory of my grandmother,, then no matter what anyone says --Im keeping it---Its part of the greatness of the game and what it does--and its why I like October so much...There is always more behind the scenes during the game that gets woven together that is usually never seen....many times its not even conscious, other times it all connects and maybe slips out especially when the games are more meaningful. If it offends you that I mentioned my grandmother---well---excuse me---for me Its part of this moment that without my prompting just happened.... before i get way down the sidetrack thanks Geisha for posting Tessie on the music thread! I sang through it twice Thats all sorts of awesome!
-
They finished second this year, are down three to one and have half a team injured . What games are you watching?
-
BRAVO Its Good to sing TESSIE again!! Ya got me pumped up and ready to go! GO SOX!!

This ones for my grandmother--When I was 4-5 and she was watching me she'd take time off from her grandmotherly duties of baking me tollhouse cookies to turn on the radio or old black and white TV with the rabbit ears to watch the Red Sox. We'd watch or listen together and she would regale me with stories of the Red Sox of old..of Ted Williams,, Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx, Jimmy Piersall (her favorite) and... of course Babe Ruth...who she loved when she was a young girl growing up in Boston ... The last game we watched together was game 6 of the 1975 World Series--the Carlton Fisk Homerun game...one of the best games ever played---and agreat and memorable time-----of course they lost the next day, the 7th game, in the 9th to the Reds so my grandmother who had been around for the glory days of the 1910's never got to see another championship after 1918 as she passed away peacefully in 1984 I know she'd be loving this-all of this -every single bit of it---I can see her tiny frame, and feel her great big smile right now--I can almost taste the tollhouse cookies. I dont need any rituals today, I have her right here--thats all I need This ones for her
