Now you know the withdrawals and mourning I was going through when Manny was let go from here on July 31st... it was acompletely difficult situation but it was very difficult to swallow I dont know what to do about Boras, he is over this way making incredibly detached arguments about Varitek as well. I'd love to see him stay as a Red Sock just on general principal, what he has brought to the franchise and so eventually he could move into a coaching role, even if he is paid for a year or two while his batting falls off a cliff. But Boras wants some astronomical sum and 4-5 years which is not going to happen, so the captain of the best Red Sox teams in 90 years is probably going elsewhere--which to my oldfashioned ways just doesnt seem right.

...its been a few days since i posted here... from what I hear a few other things have been going on in the country :) I hope you all voted.... After watching the gimmicky election returns on CNN with the Stars Wars like holograms. I can only say there is a lot of room for improvement in coverage I suggest next election they bring in my two pregame ( ...ahem..) "analysts" Heidi Watney and Amalie Benjamin to count the electoral votes..... At least they'd look better than Wolf Blitzer... and now that the election is over can we get down to real business---the Hot Stove League... :)

.. and Bush labelled '04 a "mandate"I'll agree with Senator McCain who in his gracious concession speech said "the American people have spoken and they have spoken clearly" I'l like to add that those were all REAL Americans who spoke so clearly Obama won the popular vote by 7 and a half MILLION votes ...I'd like to know in what universe thats considered close

Ive already said my piece about Manny and the Yankees--Im sure they'll go for him but think he'd do better out west- but thats just my opinion. Sabathia on the other hand could be a force for along time( if he keeps his weight down-hes been looking pretty big the last few years)--signing both of them plus already having ARod and Jeter doesnt seem financially feasable--even for the Yankees-That would be near 100 mil a year for just 4 players... filling out the other 21 slots and they could be nearer to 300m than 200mil... ..never mind the draft choices theyd lose. Dont take it personal Hiway -I try to be fair (alright..well most of the time i do...). Winning makes teams a target, no one hated the Red Sox (except some Yank fans) until they won--thats all starting to change...Decades of Yankee success has frustrated enough people to make it a national pastime to hope the Yanks fail, the RS are getting on that list too. Eh Make sure you all VOTE today...

A song as relevant as its ever been... make sure you all get out and vote today--

"Friends" as a word narrows things down ..i went to high school with Brad Whitford of Aerosmith and Dave Lapham of the Cincinnati Bengals. I knew them pretty well but I wasnt best buddies with them. I see some celebs fairly often in the little town that I live in. Karen Allen has a high end knitting shop in town that I pass every day and I see her and maybe say hello or a few words being neighborly. There are a bunch of other well known people that I see every once in awhile but unless I have some reason to talk to them, like asking Mia Farrow to move out the the doorway so I could get into the bookstore while she was dawdling, or opening a door for Kirstie Ally because her hands were full, I usually dont.... ....I met a munchkin once---the coroner--that was fun----I'd love to meet Otis.....

Damn-thats a real Tony Conigliaro type story. Its amazing how life can turn on a dime like that. I was a good hitter until I got hit by Ray Toothaker a hard throwing wild lefty when I was 13 BUt That just bounced off my helmet -- it was enough to make me start bailing out on my swing. i was still a good fielder but I went from being a leadoff guy to the bottom of the order pretty fast as my confidence at the plate diminished. I worked at it too but by 15-16 I took up smoking weed instead and other than pickup games was done. I cant imagine taking one in the face and ever getting back in the batters box --especially at 12--thats a tough break. As far as the girl--dunno--try a puppy

Im not sure when they announce but Im pretty sure your man Cliff Lee will be bringing home the hardware, thats a no-brainer. I know Rock wants Brandon Webb in the NL, but I'm gonna be a contrarian and pick Tim Lincecum just to rile Rocky a little and also because yes as a sometime catcher I took a few off the mask in my day (including one in the throat) which probably effects my ju ju ju judgment at times ouch--between the eyes??

I missed that--I'd be curious what he had to say... The Rays played it smart taking their time building by draft choices..The AL East is a tough competive market with the Yanks, Rays, Red Sox... and the Blue jays are nothing to sneeze at either...This offseason will be interesting to see how each team plays their hand....for the future or for next season...balancing that is always tough. It eventually worked (for me) that the Yanks decimated their farm system during the years they opted to sign the big free agents. As much as I wouldnt want to see a Yankee lineup with Manny and Arod back to back, I would wonder how much Manny's playing would revert if he werent playing for a contract. Plus NY is a tougher fanbase and media market to deal with-- Maybe it would absolutely nothing, but he could be fickle and be a 20HR/80 RBI guy instead of 40/135 and the Yanks could be stuck at 30m for 4 years. Its really hard to tell, if the first round draft choice they give up would be more valuable in a few years than what could be an aging moody guy. Its a very tough call. No matter what happens and the moves that are made this division will be tough next year, no one is going to stand pat. I know Boras is going to go for the biggest money with Manny but he seemed to really love his time in LA --hopefully the Dodgers'll figure some way to leverage the California lifestyle and big MannyLove out there to him in the deal and keep him over on that coast. I dont know how it was in LA exactly but Manny plays best when its fun for him, NY is tough town --the first time he goes into a slump or dogs a flyball--he'll be hearing a chorus of boos that can last for weeks..He has played there enough to know that-- -Whether intangibles like that will have an effect on where he signs --who knows? This is Manny where talking about--no one knows what he'll do next

I didnt know exactly what forum to post this in..Silly? Weird? Political? , Doctrinal? Open? Its landing here for now.... I know that there is a wing of christians that believe in the prosperity gospel. God being akin to some unlimited MasterCard where one of the main goals of life seems to be to acquire riches. Thats odd enough to me... The 700 Clubrecently sent a request to their followers for prayers for recovery of the Global Economy . . . . . If youve been patiently waiting for the "punchline" here they are gathered: Christians Praying at the golden calf for wealth  yea it really really happened... Seriously ---some things in this world just leave me speechless. I give up, I just give up

:) One of our posters here at GS is an artist on the Phineas and Ferb Show I gotta wonder if thats his work.. good stuff! This is an old standard flatpicking tune for a snowy wednesday... I was surprised a few years back when I found out it was originally a Marching band tune from 100 years ago Under The Double Eagle

At least you guys have West Coast times--There is a whole generation of East Coast kids who grow up never seeing a world series--which is shortsighted of MLB to me... ( I guess I rant about this every year at this time...I must be gettin old....but even if they scheduled a normal ballgame time of 7 or 7:15 would open up a lot of audience

I also heard today that Pope Bud had made a ruling *ex-cathedra* before the game that nine innings was going to played no matter what--(at least according to NPR). I agree with Rock on the bases loaded third strike dropped call--from my understanding the batter is out if first is occupied--of course if thats not true why does the catcher throw to first anyway when he could step on home for a force since the bases were loaded. I would assume that the batter was out immediately on the call of strike three and the game is over..if the fielding team then decides to throw the ball all over the place it may raise some excitement but its moot because the game is done, although I wouldnt want to be the umpire who had to explain that to the team that thinks they scored the winning run.. I just got in--are they playing tonight? The storm from last night is up my way now---Its snowing here!

this is an interesting set-up . the Rays tie it in the top of the 6th playing in the Great Lakes and now we get to wait a full day for a 2 and a half inning "game". If they do come back to win this series it will make for a great story, although not so great for Phils fans I know it would have been a terrible way to end a series, but Im way behind apparently--when was the rule change put into effect? I never ever check up on these things but it -used to be--that a rain game shortened in the middle of an inning would revert to the previous full inning played. It was always that way (at least back in the Taft administration when I played..) which would have given the win to the Phils. I know it would have been horrible to end it that way--Im just curious about the rule. This makes it very interesting---the Rays got a little bit of a miracle life here--I cant believe Upton stole second when he had to wade half the way there--I think the Phils better finish em off today---although I'd like to see it go on---Shields and Garza could be tough in Games 6 and 7 Best part with a short game tonight is I dont have to stay up til 2 flippin' am

Hes being the Kazmir of this year--going deep into the count and missing alot.. Its amazing how fast a hot team can go cold--Pena and Longoria who killed in the ALCS are a combined 0-30 or thereabouts--- (Jinx-double Pena as I type) ha--Longoria RBI maybe things are waking up It looks nasty and cold there....

Thanks for the insight--Im not worried--Im not a big TV guy except during the season--if by next years changeover I need something new I'm sure I can find some deal to keep me tuned in.... Im having a hard time getting enthused about this World Series---I watched a little last night but kept drifting off to other things as the Phillies lead expanded. It really couldnt keep my attention--(to be fair I had something else unplanned going on at the time..). Its not over but unless the Rays wake up it looks like the Phillies will be putting up their new banner soon. Ours came down on Friday as Fenway got buttoned up for winter--it was good year--the finallity is never easy though

You brought I big smile to mine--This is well worth it ---I agree with DWBH that this thread is the greatest secret in the world today --I will definitely lock onto TED.TV meanwhile theres nothing to do but get up and Listen to the Music :)
