  1. Its a crazy crazy place to drive. I got stuck hitchhiking through there sometime in the mid 70's I started in Utah, went through Wyoming and 3 or 4 days later got let off right in that area. It was absolute insane culture shock at the time as I had been living pretty far away from most civilization for awhile and never imagined roads stacked like that... I had no idea that I was close to Yankee Stadium or why I was getting such a hard time from passing motorists. Maybe a sign that said "BOSTON" wasnt the best thing to hold up in that neighborhood at night Thankfully I survived and finally got rescued by someone who couldnt believe what i was doing and got me out of there--- I eventually finally made it back home--and learned to carry maps-----yes--live and learn was a very long process for me

    Faith and Works

I just ran across this awful story in the Washington Post He also said: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Also: "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." And: "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." This is the same Pastor that believes God inspired his "racing ministry" with all those cool cars paid for with church funds, and was "instructed by God" to take a virgin bride 35 years his junior less than a month after his wife died. If someone was a natural born scam artist that never believed in God in the first place I can sort of understand them developing along these lines, but that "thousands' still flock to him as some sort of messenger of God is downright scary. An instrumental for Sunday AM (great title imnsho) Alison Brown Quartet
  4. Stay safe out there- I b!tch about blizzards, and snow and cold (and a weird tornado watch yesterday) but I after seeing those fires sweeping over the landscape on the news Im very thankful I dont have to deal with anything even close to that. It looks incredibly bad---hopefully nobody gets killed--- My thoughts and prayers to all the Californians
  5. I really like John Prine but ...uh.. Please tell us your condition---are you OK?
  6. Gees I just had the news on are you safe over there in LA Hiway?
  7. No wrecking balls yet, they're both sitting there side by side--which was quite an impressive site. I dont remeber the exterior of the old prerenovation place that well, having only been there once, but the new place has much more of a classical style to it and is in a few words...(can a RS fan say this?) beautiful.. majestic ..strong...cathedral like. Much more so than the "modernized" current place... If I wasnt zipping by at 65 in insane weaving traffic and already lost-- I would have stopped off to check it out and gotten a closer look...I may have to go down that way again in which case I'll plan a side trip to it. If your coming over to this coast-it would be worth a trip to see it-but you might want to take the train!... ...I havent seen Citifield yet, just pictures, but of the things Ive read almost everyone seems to think its a vast improvement over Shea, which I never really liked much.... Dress warm if you're comin this way--Its gettin chilly over here--I was workin in 4 inches of snow on Tuesday

Thanks waysider I really enjoyed that--good luck to GG! Dueling Ninja's Trace Bundy
  9. Hey now--I dont attend a church--I do think the buildings are incredible though... someone put a lot of heart and soul into those things (signed) GS's resident Church Restoration and Ecclesiastical Stained Glass Guy
  10. maybe Nandon will clarify what he means Ive never had the discipline to journal. Others I know--my sister for example has kept one for over 40 years, others i know, including alot of ministers and general seeker types keep them as well. After my Waydaze I became aware of a movement within the church to utilize journalling as an instrument for spiritual growth. Many churches that I go to offer workshops in journalling as part of their Christian formation groups. There were several books published in the 90's on journalling and its benefits. Its nothing new Ive read spiritual journals that are several centuries old, ( for me--mostly from the mystics and contemplatives) that are many times very insightful. If nandon is talking about "channeling" along the lines of the guy who wrote "Conversations with God" or some of the 'spirit written" books Ive seen then thats another matter and I apologize for being off course
  11. So--yesterday I got lost in North Joisey, took a few wrong turns (easy to do it that neck of the woods if you're not from there) and found myself crossing the George Washington Bridge--with crazy roads and exits everywhere once you get across the bridge i wasnt sure what to do.....I took the first road I saw that headed north--and before you know it I was suprisedly zingin right past the Yankee StadiumS while negotiating traffic on the Major Deegan Expressway- --I only caught a fleeting glimpse but the new place is monstrously, and I mean monstrously-- Ginormous. I thought the old place was huge-- the new place looks like its twice the size--
  12. Ive had the experience in my immediate post way days and at the time it was an adjustment and took some getting used to--I left shortly thereafter for a whole different set of reasons. Its up to you, but TWI's brand of christianity, if thats what you are comparing it to had no corner on what is "right". There are slews of different brands and practices of christianity, almost all of them seem at least somewhat strange to me--- Is it really any weirder than hearing tongues for the first time?

Bravo Chet Ive been listening to some early Fleetwood mac with Peter Green this morning Albatross
  14. Ugg foul tips I caught one square in the adams apple as a catcher when I was 14 or 15, as if that wasnt bad enough, it was a squeeze play so after getting the tipped fastball in the throat and dropping to my knees on the plate I was immediately mowed over by the runner coming in from third. Damn that was a rough 2 seconds of my life I couldnt talk right for over a week.

Glad you liked it Chas :) my sentiments exactly-- Im thinking of buying a Uke -I like em :) . Meanwhile Im having a Toots and the Maytals morning
  16. Ive heard of journalling and know quite a few people who have journalled for years and even decades as part of their spiritual practice. Its a fairly common maintream practice. Ive never heard it described anyway near close to the way you've described it though. Most times that I have talked with people who practice what is commonly referred to as journalling , it generally seems to be more along the lines of the recording of intensely personal inner reflections, dreams and such over a long span of time sometimes (oftentimes) it is combined with some sort of disciplined prayer work and study.

  18. I too offer all my thanks to all veterans past and present for their service
  19. Ive been working on my genealogy off and on for a long time, I had a huge spurt when I focussed on it for about a year about 8 or 9 years ago where a lot of new things came together..good luck with the project Chas...and enjoy ! My great grandfather was in the 134th Pennsylvania Volunteers and fought at (amongst many other places)the battle of Gettysburg where he was wounded at the "Devils Den". The story that has been passed to me is that wounded he laid amongst the dead soldiers while over run by confederate troops and was somehow eventually rescued to safety and recovered. He went on after the war to father 11 children , including my grandfather. I have one of the bullet casings from the 21 gun salute that was done at his gravesite when he passed away in 1933 that I am very thankful to have--- He was from a family of 12 and there were a number of brothers who also served, one who died in Andersonville Prison.
  20. Brushstroke started a NEWS thread-and it remained that until WD had a diifficulty understanding a 2-1 margin in electoral votes, and also thought a 7.5 million popular vote victory was 'evenly divided' which he called "facts" Pawtucket very politely asked him to move that discussion to the political forum. Whats there not to understand? Pawtucket made a very civil request when WD questioned the results of the election. That is not just NEWS or comment but politically motivated. If WD wants to start a thread in the Politics Forum on "Why 7.5 Million Voters Dont REALLY Count" which he has implied in this thread .and insists is true, then he's been pointed to where that is appropriate. Open isnt now and never has been a place for political discussion. Argument isnt appropriate in a news thread anymore than it is in a "Birthday" thread I dont understand WD's continual obstinance at simple requests from the owner of the site although its common. What up with that? He's free to come on down to the 'Tacks forum in the basement and explain to us all how 364 really really is equal to 163 in his "New Rules of Simple Arithmetic" thread if its such a monumental issue. I applaud Pawtucket for wanting to keep the Open Forum clean and also for being incredibly gracious about it... most times I actually wish he'd bring the hammer down a little harder on the people who play victim and whine whenever a very simple request is made of them
  21. South Park had a good episode the day after the election... The ER's were full--all the Obama supporters from partying too hard and all the McCain supporters were suicidal. The only question at the triage in the show was Are you a McCain supporter or an Obama supporter? I knew there was a lot of partying in my neck of the woods and Im sure thousands of babies will be born in 9 months---but I didnt realize that the ER part of the story could actually be true-- That people really are that nuts. You're right --the mind is a terrible thang to waste
  22. I think almost everyone was at the least supportive of Bush when he was initially inaugurated as President. Any criticism wasnt in earnest until he started his escapades in very serious bungling --then he became open--which in many ways he brought upon himself because of his poor decisions in office In contrast There seems to be a thing with some republicans that every democrat is immediately the antichrist and the sky will immediately fall. Despite all their claims Ive never actually seen the sky fall. Despite the prosperity of the Clinton years there was a wing of the far right that for some reason always wanted him crucified--The same group has already come out after Obama--at a very tenuous time before he is even in office <_< Its very strange to me, if they have a genuine beef --then fine---But they dont -and cant They only want to undermine whoever is their object of fear of the hour Its a very strange phenomena-- Like I said I dont get it--- but if they get some sort of perverse pleasure from from being little angry bitter people --well what are you gonna do---Its their choice. It makes zero sense to me-- but its still their choice
  23. I certainly hope so and for the majority of people i think that is true. There is a chance to change the way things are done and not resort to partisan bickering all the time. I dont expect to agree with anyone all the time but thats to be expected and its alright., there's a voice for all americans What I really dont understand is some of the righty websites Ive seen that are out to destroy his presidency before it starts--there is still a lot of misdirected anger and bitterness at many of them. They are already blaming the economic collapse and every problem under the sun on him and he hasnt served a single day as president yet ....I dont get it, but so far it seems the only thing that some of them know how to do. Maybe they'll get tired and jump on board for the good of the country instead of fighting it but Im not holding my breath either. The country has enough problems without insurrectionists to deal with. "A House divided against it self...etc." At least the country is far more unified right now than it has been in a very long time--and that alone is ahuge step in the right direction imo
