Good Mornin--I needed a shot of John Mayall this morning Room To Move
-
How do you measure success? I tried to do it faithfully, three folks that I contacted that year took "the class" for whatever thats worth. They never "stood" or hung around. I was footloose traveling around the country not doing much of anything before that so it gave me some structure and forced me to put up with people I wouldnt normally have anything to do with- In a lot of ways it was miserable, in some ways at the time it seemed OK. I didnt buy into alot of it, some of it I did, which I have since left. The only real positive for me that I can think of is thats its probably the first thing in my adult life that I stuck with and saw to the end, even though I wanted to leave just about every day...thats helped me out in the long run. Its hard to say-- Im not going to jump on the it was completely horrible bandwagon... of the two inseparable friends I had before going Wow, one was shot dead and one is doing life in jail. Looking back now, I know WOW was in most ways a huge waste of time but as a young person at a crossroads it was stupid but it wasnt the worst thing that I could have chosen

I just got finished reading the Medical Marijuana thread in the politics forum reminded me of this song--

In honor of the inauguration I have to ask the one important question that plagues our country---

Quantum Gravity Treatment of the Angel Density Problem by Anders Sandberg SANS/NADA, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden Maximum number of angels for a given mass. The allowed region is bounded from above by the line c2R/2G=Nm (gravitational collapse) and the curve N=kD(M+Nm) (information density) which has an asymptote for mcrit, and from below by N=0. The maximal number of angels occurs at the intersection of the gravitational bound and the asymptote at mcrit ................... Thats one mans opinion, of course I tend to doubt it, if I were an angel I'd be doing other things than attempting to dance on a damn pointy thing especially an incredibly crowded one... If that were the case wouldnt the the question have to become just how stupid are a multitude of angels and why do they dance around on pins anyway?

Well put, I rarely go for the big production numbers anymore but moreso the musician who would be comfortable playing on your front porch. Ive always liked that version of Louise and had an appreciation for guys like Leo.... Ive been trying for 35 years--I still cant do it........ I caught the concert at the National Mall yesterday, It was good to see old Pete Seeger up there--being Pete I dont know why someone doesnt make this the National Anthem II EDIT: Gees talk about irony I hope you got chance to see the video before HBO took it down. Seeger included the two "radical" verses, which are often omitted. In the squares of the city -- in the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office I see my people And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me. As I was walkin' -- I saw a sign there And that sign said No Trespassin' But on the other side it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! Whatever you might think about No Trespassin' signs generally, it's a bit much to put them on video of a concert put on for the people, to celebrate our new President and our country. But putting them on this song in particular? are they nuts? Woody Guthrie doesnt belong to HBO, and Pete Seeger sure doesn't either. I found another view (screw HBO)

Sure you have, you've done it several times. We have had first hand accounts right here which you've fought tooth and nail (and danced like a whirling dervish) to negate You even started a thread a while back attempting to make a hero out of a man who was convicted TWICE of a triple homicide - including shooting a grandmother 5 times at close range, who has never been exonerated of his crimes, that you claimed was innocent based on a song <_< I ve read your (very selective) moral outrage concerning the abuse of dogs and animals, but little concern when it comes to the well being of humans --especially those that are victims of violent crimes. Its extremely weird and more than a little bit creepy to me---I dont want to see a dog with a hook through his mouth either, but I cant understand why that would seemingly perturb you but rape and murder dont---
-
What am I missing here? Nobody that I know of ever wants to see animals abused. In my book its absolutely horrendous and inhuman. What I really dont get is why WhiteDove goes out of his way to defend animals even in highly questionable stories but will dive through every conceivable loophole to pardon those who abuse humans. Are you telling us that raped women are lower than dogs to you? It sure looks at that way

Mine too! :) Heres some vintage Doc Watson--

Hi Willie :D nice typing!

One of the major reasons I decided to work for myself. My heart goes out to y'all--I just couldnt bear that type of junk anymore--I smoke when I want to smoke, eat when I want to eat and siesta when i want to siesta...(I do also work :) )--but if its time to break out the fiddle and play for awhile--then its time to break out the fiddle---to me its all part of the job--Im definitely not the most efficient operation in the world but I do get the job done..... Even when I hire someone--Im aware that the human element is much more valuable to the job that I do than some warped sense of efficiency and production. I dont know how you do it, I have a pretty good work ethic, but I doubt I could ever have a job job again, If I had to put up with what some of you are describing I'd probably last about 5 minutes

From weather.com -3°F Feels Like -14°F Baby Its Cold Outside
-
O buzz off Rock --25 frikking Below zero last night--nasty..painful, pipe burstin cold..the only way to be outside is to dress like Nanook of the north..at least the good news is that ST is within sight... and we'll have to see Tom--Im still holding out for Teagarden -....(and 4 shamwows)--- theres a little buzz about Salty from time to time, but the Sox picked up Josh Bard, an everyday guy who calls a good game and had a better year at the plate than Varitek so he may do for now...especially with that pitching staff. 'Tek and Pudge Rodriguez are still both unsigned, I dont know why there doesnt seem to be a market for catchers this offseason but I think the price is bound to go down as we get closer to spring training---I see the Dodgers are cutting loose Andruw --maybe saving their $$ for Manny??
-
I just finished watching the press conferencewith John Smoltz I am loving that signing--- :) Adding Smoltz and Penny to an already good pitching staff? Ay Carumba... potential starters--- Beckett, Lester, DiceK, Smoltz, Penny, Wakefield, Buccholz, Masterson, Bowden, Bard I think that ought to be enough for the long haul plus The bullpen is looking really really deep.. enough of this freezin my kazongas off--lets play some baseball already

That reminds me of this song from Ry Cooder & The Moula Banda Rhythm Aces.. Maria Elena- which always makes me feel as if Im kickin back somewhere in a sleepy Mexican town

I was surprised to hear about the Michael "Mr. Ranger" Young thing too... Hopefully Tom will weigh in--it reminds of the Jeter conversation we had a few months back (ie whether he should move positions). By my eye(and admittedly I dont see the Rangers very often) his range is declining at short. It might be the right thing in a defensive sense to move him but dealing with it sure has created a giant can of worms..... ... Congrats to Big Jim Rice, joining the near unbroken line of Sox Leftfielders in the Hall going back to the 30's Ted Williams and Yaz......and Manny will be sure to follow someday. I agree he was on the cusp but there was about a 12 year period (pre steroids) when he was one of the most feared hitters in the AL consistantly putting up big numbers for that era Heres Rice compared with some HOFers Jim Rice: 2,452 hits, 382HR, .298 avg, .502 slg, 8 100+ RBI years, 7 25+ HR years Billy Williams: 2,711 hits, 426HR, .290 avg, .492 slg, 3 100+ RBI years, 9 25+ HR years Goose Goslin: 2,735 hits, 248HR, .316 avg, .500 slg, 11 100+ RBI years, 1 25+ HR years Orlando Cepeda: 2,351 hits, 379HR, .297 avg, .499 slg, 5 100+ RBI years, 8 25+ HR years all of which seems pretty comparable

I dont know about reverse speech but when I was living in the Boston area about 10 or so years ago I knew a 20 something guy who from a very young age could talk and sing backward all with perfect diction and pitch when recorded. He was studied by the people at MIT and apparently had some sort of different wiring. His was a natural ability although some people do set out to learn it... This isnt him (his pronounciation was much better) but a little example of something similar I found on youtube

Im jealous of all this MLBTV talk--Im gonna have to do some finagling with the exgf I guess--It sounds like agreat way to beat the winter blues...I heard that Ken Burns has updated the baseball series --- Id love to see whats on that--as well as just have the option to watch some bball on these cold winter nights... I also thought THIS was a good read about a woman who found the worlds oldest baseball card and had no idea what it was---an 1869 Red Stockings card--tried to sell it on Ebay for $10 before she figured out maybe it was worth a little more...
-
For all his quirks he makes baseball fun thats for sure---I even love his quirks, which can be the best part.. I wish it couldve been smoother here--finish out his career then give him a talk show---which wouldve been great..but...who knows with Manny... I still think he's a fit for the Dodgers...although knowing him he could very well decide to go play cricket in Jamaica for awhile and have a great time doing it Who knows?

Thats a good point, I was always secretly hoping that certain people (co workers etc)wouldnt find out when I was in...It never felt right and somewhat forced...its a lot easier to talk about it now....
-
I dont care, I dont bring it up as the first topic of conversation but I dont shy away from it either, to me its a minor point of my life that is sometimes relevant sometimes not.. If it comes up or is pertinent to a conversation (which is rarely) I'll mention it, or if someone wants to go into it I'll go as far as they want...So what --its No biggie, Im not out to impress anyone, I am who I am and am generally honest about that.. Its not the worse thing Ive done and compared to what some people have told me about their lives its almost nothing at all. ( I didnt murder anybody, I didn't rape anybody, I wasnt addicted to heroin, i didnt spend time in jail--I didnt bury my first wife under the furnace---all things which people have told me....)...I was trying to learn and teach the Bible for cryinoutloud and was misdirected but well intended as a young guy... If thats "too much" for someone then I really dont want to know them anyway and could care less what they think

Im a glass guy, I have tapped thousands of windows and pieces of glass to check how they are set in their openings. In the first video at the very beginning when Angel is tapping the glass there is a telltale "rattle" to the sound of the glass. Its a very subtle sound but any glassman would pick it up, The glass is not solid in its opening. Its hard to explain but if you tap your window and it is solidly set it will more of a "ping" sound. It sounds like the glass was set in runners which need at least a little space on for the glass to be movable ( at least 1/32" on each side), When the glass is tapped thats the sound you hear, it is vibrating against those runners. The only giveaway to the average Joe (besides the shutting the door  ) would be the reflections on the window shimmering very very slightly as the glass moves, but he kept all the spectators 15 feet away and they were misdirected anyway Very clever but easily doable. If anyone wants one of these trick storefronts built I'll be glad to build it for you. Geo. do you want to take up amazing people with your superpowers?

Happy Birthday--Mr Tom--may this year bring you another enjoyable season I stay away from the birthday threads because i know im going to miss someone --so I miss them all instead I wish you a Happy Birthday here--blow out your candles and wish for a solid dominating front line pitcher now. (is that enough? too many?) Of course for the stRangers to get a number 1 starter you may have to blow out one of those California wildfires... Sox are getting ready to sign Rocco Baldelli who I have been enthralled with since I saw him throw out two guys at the plate from CF on consecutive plays a few years ago...Now THAT doesnt happen everyday...its one of those things you dont forget...Not as sexy as a Tex signing but he'll be a good solid fourth outfielder. . .which is just as important There is also some noise about signing John Smoltz, as the Sox annual low cost potential high yield old guy pitching insurance--I really love that move... So the 25 are startin to fill in on this coast..... Whats up with Manny?
