    Song of the moment

"Someday, everything is gonna be different When I paint my masterpiece." The Band
  2. I'll be treading water and watching more games on TV myself this year I dont get the WBC thing either. MLB must have worked out something with the union and the teams to do this as a way to generate more interest in other countries ..or something. Players are usually on a strict developmental and conditioning timeline in spring training set by their team which all goes kaflooey. Im surprised the ML teams agreed to it, offering multijillion dollars of players up to potential injury doesnt fell right to me at all..
  3. yea you might say that... During his first 4 or so years he looked destined to be the best player of his generation, to me it seemed like watching a Joe Dimaggio when he walked to the plate. Its still too bad about that one pitch to the wrist. Glad he found himself a job though--Hopefully he gets his first appearance back at Fenway since he left... edit: I looked it up-its on July 6.. Lots of old friends and members of the '04 team coming back to Fenway this season. Lowe in June, Nomar in July, maybe a few appearances by Pedro or Schilling depending on where they sign.
  4. Well Hiway Manny's back home in Dodgerville. What a fiasco Manny had a guaranteed $40m for 2 years from the Red Sox which was "mistreatment" so the entire drama of the last year has end up centering around $5million, Given Boras is going to take his cut, Manny very well may have gotten another ring if he had stayed with the Red Sox, and probably would have gotten some more endorsements from that---Other than being entertaining--its all just about a wash moneywise plus he hurt his legacy some in Boston At least he made some new fans in LA, but was it really worth all the drama? Boras is starting more and more to look like the a$$ everyone knows that he is-- and Hiway gets to watch my favorite swing in baseball for another 2 years

    Song of the moment

i dont know what got into me this morning-- Ive been having a great time listening to old stax/volt stuff . Booker T and the MG's Time is Tight Heres Sam and Dave Live in Norway 1967
  6. Ok you sit tight and quit askin' I'll turn to our native friends and try a "no mo sno dance" around my beat up Sox cap maybe that'll work
  7. Dang.....One of the items up for auction is a Batman costume fitted over a lifesize statue of … Michael Jackson. I have to say right now Im already full up on off the richter scale weird. As an old guy I used to know said "Somethins jus not right with that boy"
  8. :asdf: Blizzard Dear Geisha I know your connected up well with the top dog residing behind the pearly gates. Please contact the Big Boss and remind him that spring training is now underway, games are on the tube and we are trying to get amped up for opening day down here. We are pretty much all set with all this snow bullsh!t, we dont need anymore Seriously--no more--no mas--fini Thanks mstar
  9. It could be pointed out if you end up dead in the process that it is a bit amateurish but I have to admit that with that group it would be one helluva final sendoff...
  10. He's also screwed up a bunch of deals in the last few years (didnt ARod negotiate for himself after the big "Im not going back to the Yankees" fiasco of last winter?). I know he "negotiated" Jason Varitek into a 5 million dollar cut this year. After all the ridiculous contracts (Barry Zito and Andruw Jones come to mind) management has wised up. I doubt this is about Manny, Boras needs a "score" to save face and to remain relevant and he's not getting it. I honestly think that Manny would just play baseball because he genuinely loves it and would probably still be with the Red Sox if he didnt have Boras whispering in his ear and manipulating him. Manny's an interesting character but over the years here there were many issues but it was NEVER centered around money until Boras moved into the picture last year. I may be wrong but it seems counter to Manny's character
  11. Ive had enough of this, it this looks to me like its about Boras trying to save face and his career more than it is about Manny. This isnt 2001 or 2006--when Bobby Abreu gets 1yr 5Mil and Adam Dunn gets 2/20 it is fair to say the market has changed quite a bit. Is Manny worth more than 5X Bobby Abreu or 2.5X Adam Dunn? I like Manny but It sux he gets caught in this sh!t. It looks like a great deal to me $25mil and an option at $20 more? I'd still lay that out there for 3 days and after that say enjoy finishing your career in Japan..
  12. ...and the Manny follies continue---I think if I were Ned Colletti I'd call Boras' bluff and tell him thank you very much for the interesting off season, our final offer is good for three more days then will be off the table Its Time to go or get off the pot. Turning down 2years/$45 million in this economy? that would be tough to do..

    Song of the moment

Glad you liked it..Thats quite a thing with the four hand Mozart guitar as well. Ive said a million times on this thread that I prefer anyone who plays their instrument and plays it well, whether its on their back porch with no one present or in a big show somehwere doesnt really matter to me anymore that Im older. I wish I had a tape of yesterday to post for you. The guy who works next door, Jack the Landscaper came over to my shop on Friday afternoon to kibitz and after a beer , played Mozart on harmonica which I had no idea he could do. It was a nice musical surprise to see a 50ish working class good guy like Jack totally unobtrusively rip off into a masterpiece. Good music is everywhere. Here's a piece that you generally dont hear played on a banjo
  14. I feel as if I am starting to awake out of a long long slumber, like Rip Van Winkle. If I had my way I'd be like a bear fall asleep after the last out of the World Series, start stretching a little just about now and be fully awake by opening day. In reality its not that far off...
  15. Some guy from outside the band saying what is acceptable to play? Gees---Talk about ego problems!!! As an artist I heard some of Weirwilles talks about musicians and artists as it was passed on through the bowels of TWI to the midmanagers and then on to me. It tasted exactly like the sh!t that it was...I bought it for awhile and channelled most creative impulses into waythink for a long time--much too long. To me its yet another control issue to keep followers in line and keep them from finding and developing the use of their own gifts. personally I'd be wary of a group like that---
  16. I dont have children but this is horrifying to me. I really dont care what peoples reasonings or excuses are ---- this is just beyond my ability to comprehend. Like I said in the above post -I am glad Obama nailed the parents on responsibility, buts its a shame and incredibly sad that he even had to make a point of it. It should be the most obvious thing in the world. Maybe this is an obvious question or maybe I live to much in a bubble - but Is this country really that f'ed up?
  17. That was pretty much the primary point of that entire section of the speech Its a shame that people have to be told what is obvious, but your post amply illustrates why
  18. I dont know if its tied to patriotism per se, but I sure as heck know alot of Asian doctors and high level professionals which whether they work that hard individually or for patriotism sake it sure gives their country a leg up in some competitive fields Come to think of it almost every foreigner I know speaks at least 3 or 4 languages ---sometimes more--- which cant but help give someone an advantage--- I dont know that many Americans that are fluent in foreign tongues
  19. HOORAY---Baseball! 7:05 p.m. EST Sox @ Twins (Grapefruit League Opener) Hammond Stadium, Fort Myers, FL Wakefield v. TBA NESN and televised nationally on The MLB Network I can wake up out of my winter slumber now!!

    Song of the moment

One of the best* stage show Ive seen in quite awhile, I'll take that over the high production, over theatric, laser, light show bands almost any day of the week Good Stuff * My all time favorite is a little country church i go to for acoustic concerts in the summer. Its a perfect setting. At the break the 50-80 people go outside and eat watermelon and watch the 1000's of bats that live in the church belfry swarm out of the steeple then off into the setting sun..Its a pretty cool "show" :) then everyone goes back in for the second half of the music
  21. There is no general wide brush to paint the picture. I know several people have succeeded without an education. How many people have failed and ended up on welfare, in jail or having their earning levels stalled at the poverty level because they are uneducated? and what is the percentage between the two? In that way they do become more of a burden than a contribution to the country. Education isnt necessarily the only solve all magic bullet, many educated people end up in that same boat, but without hard numbers in front of me to back it up, my instincts say that a quality education lowers the risk of failure and optimizes the chances of success
  22. I'd portray it in the way that NIKA and Rascal did myself..."The Truth about TWI" Im not necessarily anti anything, I am highly in favor of being honest and truthful in my exposition of anything.
  23. uh....I dunno...its either because they dont have an original thought in their heads or because they are convinced its still the right way to do things. Personally I cant think of much in this world thats more useless than someone who wants me to subscribe to their audio tapes
