The Inn up the street from me, which is a destination vacation spot, got some of the locals riled up yesterday when they put up a sign: Welcome AIG Executives Retreat

I still think that Pawtuckets offer is incredibly generous-- and cant fathom why WD isnt jumping on it--

I think so, they may have different religious methods but the end result is about the same.People are who they are --- many are content to raise families, be good neighbors, please the deity of their choice and do what they perceive as some good works. Some are sunday or religious holiday believers only, some are more committed, some are fanatics, some inherited it through their families, some in each group are dangerous wackos, some have to be convinced that they are right at all costs. I would guess that breaking it down that different categories the percentages are about the same across all the different religions. For every bin Laden there is a Timothy MacVeigh, and for every Mother Theresa there is a Mahatma Gandhi. For every crazy preacher they have we have one too..that goes for good ones too There are billions of people between the extremes who will never be revered as saints or reviled as monsters but are decent honest people no matter what religious label they carry

Darn you have a great memory for movies--I can remember seeing them--whereas you remember the details which are long gone for me.. I dont remember Piersall climbing up the backstop in the flick--I do remember the stories my grandmother used to tell about him--He was her favorite---bringing bug spray to the outfield and making amazing catches---I met him when I was about 12, I tried to get an autograph and he rolled his car window up on my arm which I probably deserved I do remember that William Bendix movie classic---didnt he also play a third base coach or a manager of the Pirates in some tear jerker baseball movie.....or maybe that was someone else

FRED is a coach??? :biglaugh: the movie is worth seeing for that reason alone. I remember watching the original Angelsin the Ouftfield when i was about 8 or so--which I seem to remember seeing every spring, which I liked--- And possibly the worst baseball movie ever made --Fear Strikes Out, with the guy from Psycho (Tony somethingorother) as Jimmy Piersall--I liked it at the time but wonder if the guy had ever seen a baseball let alone played before he made the movie. I like those old flicks "Pride of the Yankees" was another good one...I'll be watching to see whats on TCM Fred

Gees she traveled 6000 miles? I could have saved here the trip. there is agentleman who claims to be Jesus Christ living at the homeless shelter in my town barely 2 hours from New York. He doesnt have the fancy hilltop house, people praying to him or offering hymns as he enters the room--but at least this Christ lives in humble surroundings. I wonder how many there are worldwide--there must be thousands--I wonder if they all get together at a Christ Convention in Atlantic City once a year to compare notes. Nice work if you can get it. Anyone who wants to give me their life savings and pension and then till my garden and eat peas is welcome to come up my way...I might even grow my hair long again and show up once a week in a bathrobe to say "bless you.... love one another... and dont be distracted by these insignificant worldly things--give me your checking account and retirement portfolio so it wont be around to tempt you"

thanks for the heads up Kim---I'll catch as many of those as I can meanwhile--just because I always post this--and in honor of almost opening day

I could do that....Ive moved on....I wouldnt mind a mural on the building but I'd have to think about what it would be....maybe one of those faux paintings that makes the building disappear into the landscape. That'd be sorta fun --- if I could pull it off

My workshop is in a cinder block building--It was too nice outside today to work....I went outside and painted the cinder blocks to look like bricks ---just bored with regular work i guess--I dont know if that counts for anything but it looks a helluva lot better than it did----and nobody thought I was shooting them.....I think I'll plant ivy to cover the walls....

I hope the kid gets straightened out Kimberly--its a really tough age --I spent a good chunk of my high school years skipping school and smoking pot so Im no one to talk to--he's certainly not the first teen ballplayer in that spot--hopefully someone will get through to him before his baseball days are over and he ends up kicking himself for squandering it....best of luck with that........ ...will spring ever come....? this waiting is getting interminable.... question for Geisha Ive been thinking about for afew days---who's gonna be tending the tomato plants in the bullpen now that Timlins gone? My moneys on Manny delCarmen

I'll let pawtucket make the rules for himself...but you did miss the 'schoolyard bully' part of the post and did not mention the intentional derailing of the thread with no concern for the original topic or the question of the original poster. WD picked an off topic fight with DWBH to further his own agenda without adding anything worthwhile to the thread. That MO is crude no matter what kind of messageboard you go to-- and as Paw pointed out a distraction from any real interaction happening. Many people have offered pro twi views here over the years without being obnoxious about it or using threads to pick fights and settle personal scores. I think the offer of a free proTWI website is a good one that WD should take him up on

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isnt...---For me it was, I (foolishly) at one time chose TWI, others seem content to stay in the spiritual tradition where they were born. For some it seems to be an inheritance of who they are and no real decision is ever reached one way or the other..Whether its Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Jewish or any of the jillion forms of Islam, a huge slice of humanity seems content to carry on the spiritual traditions of their families, be 'good' people and let it go at that. I dont know all that many Muslims but the ones that I do are all decent people. To me it seems very unbalanced that a billion person religion would be judged entirely on the actions of a sub sub sub sub group that numbers maybe 2000

i agree too---I still stop when I see kids playing and enjoy watching every bit as much as a big league game--maybe more...I still keep my glove in my car everyday and a pair of gloves at my shop....just in case someone comes in and wants to play catch........ That childlike simplicity is still the key essential element of the game and why I still get swept away in it....I went to about 20 major league games last year but my favorite moment of the year was when my neighbor. 9 year old Jimmy, made an absolutely astounding catch robbing me of the winning HR in the last inning of a pick up wiffle ball game after work one day.... He ran through the yard and dove into the bushes and came up with it.....No film crews from ESPN were there, it isnt on The "The 50 best plays of all time" but he still beams from ear to ear when ever he see me, and may be the best catch he will ever make in his lifetime. I dont think he or any of the other 5 of us there will ever forget it-If he gets to be 50 and a judge--he'll still remember it..---------baseball gotta love it

just an aside y'know--It doesnt make your point any more viable when you use giant letters in bright colors-- unless of course you're a believer in THIS.. It looks like your trying to shout everyone down

of course I'd take Manny back in a minute--Ive said a billion times that he is the most enjoyable player I have ever watched --aside from what he does on the field, He' s always interesting and has an element of humor with what he does and who he is...--So he plays cricket this year...last year at this time he was a ZenMaster The year before that he was selling his stuff on ebay . The year before was the first year of his dreads No matter what happens he alsmost always fun to watch---The "darkside" of Manny isnt even really all that dark to me--so maybe he doesnt hustle one or twice amonth, In real life who doesnt dog it once in awhile?--I know that I do once in awhile--except I can hide it..Its just that he is more visible than most--Hes just being human If he is great 28 days a month and he throws to the wrong base or forgets how many outs there are once in awhile its still a plus overall--and more a source of amusement

It would depend alot upon the indivduals, my relationship to them, and my perception of their relationship whether I was supportive or not. I would not automatically be for or against but it would depend on who they really were before I could realize what my feelings about there individual situation would be---and then I'd tell them given the opportunity...If I dont know them then its really not my business to judge--just to wish them well ....Ive been asked to be in a wedding party, ( best man, performing the service etc) several times. Ive been to a few that I wouldnt give my "blessing' and consent to as part of the wedding to because knowing the individuals I didnt think they were right for each other and would have problems that they couldnt foresee..These for the most part were average everyday people. Most people I'll support unless its apparent they are headed for severe rocky shoals orone partner is obviously manipulating the other I was involved in a wedding a few years ago where one of the parties was completely paralyzed and terminally ill BUT the love between the two was genuine and deep--I had no problem with being in that wedding Nothing as far as I know...If Im involved somehow I'll take a more active interest and develop and offer an opinion based on who those individuals are--other than that its between those two. It hasnt been that long since there were laws against inter racial marriages, now there is the big hullaballoo about gays getting married ...As i said its not mine to judge personal matters of the heart between two people--nor is it really anybodies. I know people that are "disabled" that are married that do just fine

Lot of semantics---I first wrote about taking the place of the absent Christ----if "man of God" suits someone better than take that one instead---Wierwille did take that high falutin title to himself and set up the structure where he was at the top making the decisions of the "ministry" with very little or no oversight..and also claimed a direct pipeline to God. The main contention I had was not on doctrinal differences that LHIM may have with TWI but that the structures are set up similarly, with one head honcho who holds near celebrity status with few checks, balances or oversights in the system.. Its inherently weak and invites all sorts of problems, potential problems and questions I dont know how I got dragged into this...I am essentially in the same boat as Masterherbalist--i really dont care all that much what they do. They're adults and are responsible for their own lives. Ive moved on but Im also aware of the shortsightedness of the past and was just offering my viewpoint. If someone wants to think that its something completely different --fine have at it---but its the to me
