  1. It would be interesting to have the rest of the card translated.. When i was around 10 i was in the basement digging through one of my dad's old storage trunks and found some letters beautifully written in that German style script. After asking him about them he told me that as a high schooler he had a penpal in Germany in the 30's, which was a common thing to do in those days...I forget exactly what the content of the letters was--Im going to have to ask him about them again
  2. ----now paging Tom, Rocky.....and its about durn time for some insights from Simon as well....come out come out wherever you are....front and center.... I noticed yesterday Kinsler leads the league in hits-so he's picking up right where he left off..Im still slowly feeling my way around the rest of the leagues ---certainly something of note must be happening out there--SPEAK UP y'all Im sure Geishagirl is pumped about this weekend Too bad we dont have a Pirates fan in here..I never get to hear about them.....
  3. 7 in a row and looking good---The only thing that annoys me is all the different uniforms they are wearing this year--It makes them look like a $%#^%$ expansion team--BUT if thats the worst thing I have to complain about it cant be all bad----Im looking forward to a nice Yankee weekend -we're suppose to have our first real weekend of good weather on top of that. Ortiz' batspeed has seemed real slow but I'll hold off thinking about that for now

    David Grisman/Tony Rice/Mark O'Connor/Rob Wasserman
  5. You may have to go up to Cleveland this year to catch him--I dont think Cinci is on the schedule this time around...He is a big lad. I want to see this kid up close: Tampa Teen Pitches 4th Straight No Hitter

still do.... its never too late
  7. I love that kid Masterson, no matter where they put him, long relief, short, relief spot starting-he does a great job. He's all smiles all the time (except when he's pitching) and looks like a big kid out there-- apparently his young wife sends him in most days with a batch of cookies for the clubhouse :) good day for sports yesterday, Sox swept the O's. Celtics won on a buzzer beater, Bruins went up 3-0 vs the Canadiens, and of course the Boston Marathon... I'll give it a few more weeks but it seems so far like every popup to right in Yankee Stadium has a chance of going out--Maybe its just the weather season so far--the winds been blowing in, in most games at Fenway so far which is somewhat normal for April..If I recall it usually switches around in early may or so----maybe it will do something different soon in the Bronx as well and they wont end up with 800 Hrs over that fence this year Justin "Hi Mom Im having lots of fun up here in the big leagues" Masterson
  8. I love this ---3-1 and its not even noon yet

I would venture quite a bit...Its been my belief for along time that most of the best music in the world goes unrecorded and that most of it happens in living rooms, on back porches, or in out of the way places far far away from the 'music biz" that must package it into an image and product that they can sell. There are more than a few talented people out there who are content with what they have and want nothing to do with the fame game
  10. Little known but true was that during Reveres ride he stopped at a tavern and had a beer in Medford Mass. I occasionally wonder what history would look like if his drinking habits were a little different and he had stayed for "just one more" several times Editted to add: That got me to thinking where the term 420 came from--as if on cue this article showed up this morning... Origins of "420", Enjoy workin everyone, I have the day off. :) Whether there is any 420 celebrations is yet to be determined
  11. yea good to have him back --9 K's through 7--- Saiito made it a little too exciting inthe 9th. We have morning baseball today for Patriots day which always throws my equalibrium a little off
  12. I thought you were going to mention THIS. Growing up not far from Concord and still living pretty close by Ive been to the bridge hundreds of times. In one sense its unimpressive and a very simple place surrounded by farmland not unlike thousands of other places. It could be the last place you would think that something world changing would happen Its amazing the impact ordinary people can do when they decide to do something.. Monday is a holiday here...I dont know if they stop in remembrance in the rest of the country or not---they should
  13. Im glad your enjoying Manny--I think of all those years of trying to tell you how fun it was...even when he screws up its somehow a bagload of fun.. My favorite still has to be a game in 04 when a ball went over Johnny Damons head in Center and as Damon was relaying back in it, Manny hustled over from left and dove to cut off the throw to the infield. --of course the The last time I saw him live he was talking on his cell in the outfield which wasnt bad either ---There is only one Manny.... cool they dropped the blaring music--I really cant stand all that nonsense--or the exploding scoreboards that tell people what to do----or those gigantic distracting things on the facades of some stadiums...I'll hope they keep it that way out there for you......... The new Yankee Stadium must have awind tunnel heading out to right or something...its a small sample size but the first few games have been ridiculous..looks like a nice place but they are going to have to figure out something to keep the ball in the park
  14. Roger got the short shaft somewhere --I actually remeber a little more of his days with the Cardinals as I was pretty young when he was with the Yanks--One of those clumps of hair for the reliquary would be a good display.. Indians are looking good this afternoon at Yankee Stadium 20-2 after 5. I dont know if the ball just carries in the new place or the Indians are really that good
  15. Of course I'd vote for Tiant, for all his whirling and dealing as well as the cigars and millions of great quotes..Maris definitely deserves to be somewhere ( Is he still on the Cooperstown lists?)...I didnt follow McGraws career all that closely being in acult and all for parts of it but he seems shrine worthy... Id love to see the House of David photos that are on exhibit there now. Papa Mstar saw them a few times in the 20's when they were barnstorming the Midwest and has told me some great stories about them
  16. How many of the 50 do you get to vote for? and do us gsc baseball threaders have any input? :) I checked the site--Its a great list--Off the top of my head and In keeping with the spirit of the place I'd cast a vote for Nuf Ced McGreevey and Rube Waddell --- it does require some thought and discussion there are a lot of worthy candidates------I would pay my 25 dollars to vote but it had to be in by April 1st so Im too late.. after a second look at the list Pete Gray has got to get in just how many one armed major league outfielders shouldnt be inducted into the shrine of the eternals?
  17. Im sure you would --but I pretty much knew you may be interested in this one...He said he went back and forth to the Hall of Fame several times and got alot of great pictures, many of which arent readily available to the general public. It could be worth it for that alone in my mind.... (Wee Willie Keeler playing for the Highlanders etc)
  18. Hells Bells--I just got in and its 7-4 in the 3rd <_< My friend from town, Derek, just published a book on the Yanks that Hiway might be interested in....I havent read it yet but Its getting good reviews especially among Yankee fans Its called The New York Yankees and The Meaning Of Life ... Drew HR as I type--maybe this will be a game yet......
  19. O hell yea---I wouldnt call it a coming of age so much as the initial moments of control manipulations were over and was time to move you on to other levels of things to do. After that it became newer manipulations to get involved in the next class, vaccuuming, stringing chairs, making posters , absing, raking the branch leaders lawn...signing people up...whatever was dictated It never really was about helping people with their problems or their '"quirks"...It was about controlling people to become manageable and pliant to the goals of the groups. God forbid anyone showed up with a real problem and didnt jump to the whims of someone who wanted to fix it all by signing them up for a class to make themselves look good. Looking back I shouldve been late more often
  20. <_< on the Beckett suspension--One got away--even the umpires said that he handled it well. Sciosia complained that he didnt show enough remorse (????) so Watson suspends him for 6 games..Whats he supposed to do hug him? I hope Lester snaps out of it--there were a few people predicting him for the CY ----is that the kiss of death? 2 shortstops down and the offense is pretty much dead except for Youkilis anyway --its a rough start, theyre looking more like they'll challenge the Nats at this point than the Rays--- a series where the bats breakout would be nice

    Song of the moment

I should head over to the other thread and ask some banjo questions...Spring is here and a small very informal bluegrass/oldtimey/who knows whats gonna happen next jam is becoming fairly regular in my shop after work...its good times...Im playing with the idea of buying a banjo---I probably wont be able to afford a church bells banjo but something reasonable sure would be fun. You need to head over my way one of these days miller and join us...I'll throw some more venison on the grill
  22. Mine is in the same spot as dmillers was-- I know its around here somewhere (probably in the back of a bookcase or under aplant) but I keep it for the same reason as he does.. --I did my year in good faith. It had its ups and downs, good times, tough times, but no matter what the organization turned out to be --I earned it
  23. well the $100million Mr DiceK is on the disabled list now...and the Red Sox are 0-2 in his starts. Maybe it would have happened without the WBC, but having someone throw 100 pitches in "must win" games when they should be pacing themselves to get ready for a season doesnt sound smart at all to me...I'd be very irked if I was Red Sox management

    Song of the moment

Ive had this song in my head all day--- :) Yesterdays after work jam session came up with this--which I havent heard in about 15 years...I forgot how much fun it is to play All About You---Doc Watson & David Grisman
