there is a caveat though: "According to the Federal Family Medical Leave Act,... He is required to give him requested time for such things" 'My grandbaby's father was given the week off in honor of Jaden's birth. there seems to be a difference.. did he request it off, or did the boss come to him and give him the week off? I dont know what the understanding between the two of them was I'd still check with the State, they sometimes vary from federal laws

Im with Rumrunner on this..If he cant work it out with his boss I'd check the phone book under State and Federal Government (its the blue pages in my phone book)and start making phone calls to the law and employment agencies to see if its legal or not and what he can do and where to file a complaint to get remunerated. They are why your taxes are so high, you may as well utilize them

I dont know--Paw might know the way but since we are on the subject I wanna know how you delete things you say in real life--like the other day when I asked the girl I know in the hardware store but hadnt seen in awhile when she was due--and she told me that she wasnt pregnant--- O crap I knew the very second I said it that it was the exact wrong thing to say but by then it had blurted out.... What an a-hole I would like to delete that like it never happened if anyone knows how

I had his new internet thingy and discovered how to use a search engine which enamored me... during a moment of boredom and completely lacking any creativity I looked up some weird cult that I was involved with once and landed at Waydale. I hung around there until it closed its doors then came here.

I remeber the Wursthaus-thats gone now, as well as most of the old Harvard Square which has been revamped--I have seen some great musicians and performers on the street in HS over the years..Bonnie Raitt was the first one I remember who made it as a name, but Ive seen others--Livingston Taylor, Tracy Chapman and probably others who I just never got to know knew their names in the first place...There has always been good musicians playing the streets there and still is....Inman Square had TT the Bears if I remember right-I saw Dave Van Ronk there once. I unfortunately missed hearing THIS GUY"S days of playing the streets

Y'know I dont remember the Psychedic Supermarket--I might have been a little too young for that place--I spent alot of time and saw alot of great bands at the Performance Center in Harvard Square from about 72-75 or so...They had two rooms --I walked in on some band from New Jersey there once--Bruce Springsteen or something like that but left because I wasnt in the mood I saw Weather Report across the hall instead. Heres another very minor brush with fame...My friend Miriam does those little light cooking segments around the country on the morning shows :biglaugh: (somebody's gotta do it.) Shes out hawking her new Picnic cook book and a bunch of products now on a 50 city itinerary You might see her some morning --when shes not doing this we eat breakfast together a few times a week at the diner. She's a good soul--if you see her say hi Here she is last week in Detroit

Im not a card carrying christian believer or even a true believer of any type that I can tell or define, but I have to admit that i agree with geisha. I might word it differently but the belief is basically the same.. Im never getting any 'voice' thats says "blah blah blah"--do such and such" , but life unfolds, observations are made, ideas connect and there is a certain guidance or path somewhere underneath it all --sometimes i see it, sometimes I dont. Sometimes big ideas (or very simple ideas) just slam into me for no reason other times things just seem to run in a subtle undercurrent. I dont know if I'd call it God talking to me or something else but generally the experience is there if Im not too locked up in my own little world and too busy to notice...

That makes the game so much more enjoyable--I remember the 25 guys/25 cabs days of the Red Sox, always some squabblin going on between someone and it was a real chore at times to get excited about those teams. If they got 20-25,000 to a game it was an accomplishment. Last night was consecutive sellout number 500 -Its oversimplified I know but ANYONE playing MLB and making what they make should be happy and enjoying every second of it. Enjoy it down in Tejas-thats what baseball is for... :eusa_clap: Now thats something I could get behind- and something deserving to a great ballplayer.... we should start a movement on that.---sign me up! FWIW-I heard they were showing DiceK games at Gitmo until the UN Humans Rights folks stepped in and called it too torturous and inhumane for human viewing And I agree , I joke, and Eckersley does cause me to break out laughing several times a game but his insights especially on pitching are great to listen to... ............ I'll agree pitchin's pretty good --8 starters ready to go (Smoltz, Buchholz and Bowden ... and even Masterson (making 9) all probably would be starting elsewhere ) and the best bullpen Ive ever seen .....what does one do with this embarrassment of riches?

Eck pitched for the Sox in the 70's and early 80's and had some great years--then after bouncing around a bit and some GREAT years in Oakland where he basically defined the modern closer role-he finished his career with Boston as well. He was always well liked and remebered in Boston and although his monumental years were in Oakland and he played other places-He freely says that he always loved it in Boston and settled here after his career. The fans always remembered and liked him too...I guess it was natural for NESN to offer him a job when he retired and made the Hall of Fame. Hes been doing commentary for NESN off and on for a few years, --when Remy unexpectedly needed recovery time and they needed to scramble to find someone to do color, he sort of defaulted into the job. Its been interesting listening to him get used to it and adjusting , his pitching insights are excellent if you can translate the lingo to english (He's rambling about "sinkage on the light cheese" right now as I type ) He is getting better as I get used to him.

When I grow up I wanna do this: Keith Jarrett

I DONT remember the TV Diner,(of course there are lots of things I dont remember from those years!) Pauls Mall/Jazz Workshop two of the diviest little rooms hosted some of the best music from that era. From Miles Davis to Rory Gallagher. I saw some great stuff in that smoke filled basement that filled up with maybe 100-150 people tops as I remember.maybe fewer. For awhile I was sort of a semi regular You might know me, I grew up in Wakefield, MA but "hit the road" in about '73 or so. I was never in TWI in Massachusetts but thats not to say we didnt perhaps share some illegal substance at a concert somewhere once or twice or a dozen times . The music crowd was (and still is) vibrant in those days and I knew a lot of faces and folks as regulars

Alright Gabe!!! What an interesting career he had made for himself. Two years ago he took a year off to manage in A Ball, about 5 years ago he took a year in Japan because he said he wanted his family to experience that culture. Kapler always seems to be making the most of his big league years. I like him and wish him well. ...........The Red Sox are moving to a 6 man rotation next week when John Smoltz will be put in, hopefully it will help out DiceK who because of the WBC setback is still pitching at a spring training level. Plus No hit Clay Buchholz is tearing up AAA and is getting antsy about being called up--I sort of doubt we'll see a 7 man rotation (!?!?!) -but the horses are definitely there to do it, plus the bullpen has been near lights out from the 7th on. Nobody is complaining about "O No we have too much pitching" I gotta ask Geisha (or anyone else who watches) what she thinks of Eckersley as the color man replacing Remy. Hes growing on me after umpteen years of Remy but... He cracks me up with the baseball lingo. I heard something like this afew days ago which is a typical Dennis Eckersley sentence "He's sitting on Red, and Shields wants to dish cheese. He's looking paint, but throws a piece of tight cheddar down the middle and Bay goes Johnson. Of course, Shields would rather it be a solo Johnson but Bay is locked right now given the hump" wha?-- :biglaugh:

It is stunning right now, There is nothing like the Berkshires in the spring for my money. I was a ramblin guy for long time until I landed here, I have lived here longer than I have ever lived anywhere else It is a really great place, Friendly people, very beautiful --I feel very comfortable here I havent got the least inclination to move (... well sometimes when its cold but that is fleeting...) I love it here. GB is two towns from Lenox-the Spa there is Canyon Ranch--there are a slew of famous people who go there --the Hollywood type crew--who are drawn by the excellent summer theater, the arts that populate the hills, the natural beauty, the music, all the eccentric and interesting artists and folks and the ease of living .. They sometimes fall in love with the place and have homes here. Spielberg has a place here and Meryl Streep and Cher and blah blah blah Its a good spot--common over sometime and say hi...but SHHHH dont tell anyone that its a hidden jewel- I like it the way it is

True enough, todays celebs are just people whos face I recognize for the most part. Mentally I think ''O thats so and so", then within seconds I go back to, "I wish he'd get out of my way" :) When they play some minor bit part in my life it makes a difference. I'd like to meet whoever did the voice of Fred and Wilma ---- if they are still with us. That would be fun..just to hear one 'Yabbadabba doo" and one " Frrrrrreeeeeeeeeeddd!" They're probably pretty tired of that by now though.... I met " The Beav", Jerry Mathers but he was past Beaver age and was trying to make it as a pop star by then

I met James Taylor just a month or so ago--seemed Ok to me...but it was just a quick hello..Arlo is a regular in town every once in awhile too... Are you talkin about Aerosmith? I went to high school with Brad Whitford..he was stoned a lot...I see Elizabeth Shue every once in awhile,(The Karate Kids girlfriend) she likes the same breakfast place I do.. She is still a beauty and has two adorable children... I see Karen Allen (Indiana Jones girlfriend) about 3-4 times aweek--she has a knitting shop in town Kirstie Alley is as ditzy in real life as she was on Cheers, I opened a door for here when she had a coffee in one hand and a donut in the other and could not figure out how to open a door. She had that confused dog with the tilted head look on so I opened the door for here. Mia Farrow gazed off into space while standing in a doorway at a bookstore and wouldnt let me pass until I asked about 3 times, finally I just blew past her maybe jostling her alittle bit while she was spacin' I had a good time talking to Ramblin Jack Elliot on a park bench for about an hour a few years ago---he's has some seriously cool stories. I got high with Muddy Waters at the old Pauls Mall in Boston in between sets sometime in the 70's there are probably others I never made it to the legendary Boston Tea Party--hats off to daggoo

Ive been sort of lax around here this year being busy on many fronts and not getting achance to see as many games as normal. I did catch last nights game against the Phils -- Lester is being back to the Jon Lester that I know (wowzah) and anytime you can pull in arookie in the 12th thats throwing 99+ Im all for it. There has been a few skips in the bullpen this week but all in all they look like the best RS bullpen that I have ever seen. John Smoltz is ready to go, and Clay Buchholz came within afew outs of a perfect game in AAA a few weeks ago--where are they gonna put these guys??? Will the $100Million doolar DiceK get sent down? A very pleasant predicament for sure. I honestly didnt get to see much of the Ranger series last weekend StrangeOne I was visiting the new WackyFunster Off The Grid Farm in the mountains --No TV, No Radio, No Cell Phones, No Computers...and no baseball --a nice river runs through it though and a great piece of land and place.... From what I do know I dont see any reason at this point why the Rangers cant be there at the end ( does anyone still remember the Rays of last year? ) I love the fact that the stRangers are placing more emphasis on defense -its showing in their record. As long as they stay fairly consistant, dont have any long losing streaks, and play together and maybe tweak the lineup if needed at the trade deadline --they look like they very well could be in good position for October baseball from here

apologies for posting this band several times in the last month Theyve got me. :) Its such a simple yet very joyful sound to me Crooked Still (with Mike and Ruthy) a song as old as dirt--Shady Grove--with a new twist " I wish I had a banjo string made of golden twine every time I played that string I'd wish that girl was mine"...... another oldie-- Darlin' Corey have yourselves a good friday night and a great weekend everyone!

Zero education and the artistic ability of a slug here ...and I too joined a cult... I really dont know how Ive made my living doing this for 30 years without having to get a real job. Incredible luck, the grace of God. something in between, or they've all been confusing me with someone else for a very long time. Any which way i dunno but--I'll take it--beisbol stained glass ben berry berry good to me

Well you know I do church windows for a living. Most of the time they are packed with symbols, scenes or something or other pointing toward or depicting some specific story, moral, or event. Many times the meaning has been lost or forgotten -especially in churches with older windows and generations have gone by without many people thinking about it. Church symbolism is a coupla thousand years old and pretty specific, has its own language but its not something most people are driven towards or understand very well Just being around them for so long I have learned how to 'read' them and make connections like some read a book or the stories in a Rockwell painting. I just finished installing a window in Atlanta that was along the theme of "Peace, Justice and Social Activism" ---whether anyone knows that in 100 years or not---I dunno--they'll probably think its just a bunch of people standing around Odd timing--I just now finished responding to an email from a church in Rhode Island that wants me to come down there just to tell them what their windows represent and are 'saying'--no real work at all just interpret all the symbols and connect them for them.....anyways I hope thats clear as thats what I meant- I suppose I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my grandmother for starting me on this "reading art' bidness through Rockwell when I was a toddler

This is my friend Ed Hes a really good down to earth small town guy--like amillion other people....I like him a lot. I just found out a month or so ago that when he was a kid he was one of Norman Rockwell's models. I dont know if you know his stuff or not but my grandmother loved him and I clearly remember being 3, 4 or 5 and having my grandmother show me pictures of Rockwell paintings and Saturday Evening Post covers and explaining the stories in them that stuck in my memory. Im still looking for 'stories' in art..Its my profession now.... Anyway--It was pretty cool when I found out that my friend Ed was this kid... from one of my oldest memories... and also this kid..another one I remember from 50 years ago... One of Ed's joking nicknames is 'the most famous a$$ in the world"
