Back to the question: Its the history of religion from the beginning, I was rereading an account in Genesis yesterday, when a whole village was murdered by Jacob and his sons for a similar transgression--its absolutely appalling, but these types of people and behaviours are at the core of many religions, and its really no wonder the heinous acts committed in the name of religion when people like this are unconditionally revered as role models and heroes.

well, you could look at all the people here who immersed themselves in The Way and want nothing to do with Christianity, or take a look at all the abuses, financial, sexual, and personal and get an obvious clue to the answer. Its my personal opinion that The Way International never had anything to do with God or Jesus-- except maybe accidentally despite all the talk and scripture quoting, they drove many more people away than they ever 'won'

I love almost any of the music surrounding Christmas, most of the songs are so...pure...(Iguess thats it) that any respectful arrangement is good..Im a sucker for acoustic guitar so staples for the last few years for me have been Christmas CD's by solo guitarists Harvey Reid and Ed Gerhard, but be they big choral and pipe organ arrangements or childrens groups singing-the songs and melodies themselves have lived this long for a reason, there is something about them that can touch something very primal within me.... I'll definitely be taking in a concert or two this season....

African Greys are verry smart--I saw a show on the discovery channel a few years ago where they actually figured a way to measure their comprehension and gave them a test based on colors, shapes and verbal commands--it confirmed what I already believed from experiences with 'Alex' -- they have the ability to think and interact appropriately. Its uncanny at times-the timing of his comments. As far as ex's son being too young--well maybe now, but the good thing about Greys is that they have a very long lifespan and could be with him for a very good chunk of his life. They are definitely highly likable and lovable creatures

I dont know how much you want to spend--I have a friend with an African Grey parrot (he is definitely not 'thousands'probably about $5-800) that is just shy of human--he greets me by name, laughs at my jokes, whistles just about every TV theme song he has ever heard, has a good sense of humor (he knows when to curse, give an exaggerated fart or kissing sound) and is a good affectionate pet. There is of course care and some training of the bird involved, but as long as you dont get a squawker, African greys can really become part of a family....when I visit he loves to come over, perch on my finger or shoulder, or just sit near me and talk---he also knows a few tricks -he plays dead if you shoot him and says 'got me! and he will ring exactly like the phone to get people to come into his room and then laugh at them when they do....

I was home from school that day, I had spent the previous cool November weekend out playing football in the mud as 8 year olds like to do, I had a pretty good cold and my mother made me stay in bed until about 11:30 or so---no cartoons or going out since I was home from school. My mother was vacuuming and had "As The World Turns" on when it was interrupted by a "Special News Bulletin", I think it was Frank McGee, who announced the president had been shot in Dallas, it wasnt long after that that they confirmed the President was dead. Our little black and white stayed on all weekend,going between Huntley-Brinkley and Walter Cronkite-- I too saw Oswald shot on live TV, watched as his body lay in state, and I can still hear the somber drum rhythm that seemed to last for hours during the final procession to Arlington Cemetary.

Well for that matter Happy Birthday to the Glockenspiel-i like those little bell like undertones strategically placed--- Z...the music store up the road has a bouzouki and a cittern which I go up and play semi regularly and threaten to buy--one of these days alice--one of these days--they are great and joyful sounding instruments, but I am already likely to play hookey from work way to often without another thing to keep me enthralled . They also have a 6 string banjo that is tuned like a guitar-(which is sort of like cheating).You cant get the cascading runs of a normal banjo, but other strange things can happen. (Bach on banjo -anyone?) Good to see a banjo player playing in an actual standard tuning--the banjo picker I play with always seem to be altering tunings after every song, The joke is banjo players spend half the time tuning , the other half playing out of tune. If you like old banjo tunes there are an equal amount of old banjo jokes.. Ive been experimenting with alternate tunings and partial capo'ing on my guitar for a few months, an Esuspended capo seems to give a nice celtic flavoring similar to DADGAD but with a few more options that I really like. Ive been using it to work up some arrangements of old christmas songs ( Holly and.., God rest ye,, Hark the herald..Joy to...familiar melodies that are easily adaptable to a celtic style---as well as some 1700's Scottish carols I found in a book this year) How many strings on the banjo?--they make so many now. 4-5-6 or? How are you approaching it? I love a banjo but never moved beyond some basic clawhammer stuff, you cant beat the sound aand simple pleasure of listening to a banjo. If sirguess is still there (its been awhile) I'd like to hear what he is finding out

Im not much of a moviegoer, but I saw this and would see it again, it has very good writing and acting and the story keeps you locked on--it works on alot of levels, which is why I would like to see it again. as a sidelight having grown up not too far from there it was incredibly authentic to the feel of East Boston...somebody definitely did there homework writing and producing this one. definitely worth it 3.5 mstars

Good Idea Ginger--- When my family was young we always made gifts for each other, then it sort of went to buying things for a bunch of years, when the last kid moved past toy age,(although I did enjoy making toys and games), we started making things again.Its been that way for about 10 years now-- In my book its alot better that way.
