1. That was setup at the Rock of Ages every year that I can remember..I never met him that i know of...but I can remember the teepee. I dont know exactly when or if TWI came out against Teepee's (How can you be against a type of dwelling??) but I'd guess it was sometime in the period when they morphed from a bunch of carefree hippies into a band of corporate clones in 3 piece suits carrying briefcases. That was a really odd transformation to watch. It took 5 or 10 years or so as i remember it...I dont know if they came out with a teepee 'doctrine', or when it actually stopped but Id guess that it followed that somehow. The suits always loved making up new rules off the tops of their heads and out of thin air--usually about nothing

3. True I have to say I never really understood the appeal of fame very well People that would otherwise claim to personally know Jesus Christ would get all giddy if they met some third tier rocker or pro athlete as if they had seen a burning bush or something.

I'd really love to say the rest of the song happened to me too, but (surprise) it didnt really -- at least not in Memphis anyway :) Its a good tune though ----it reminds me of a lot of good times smoking various things in the 70's, which as much as Id sometimes like to forget it,(and sometimes do) apparently also really did happen.....

Suns up ..um hmm ..looks OK... the world survives into another day and Im thinking 'bout eternity some sort of ecstasy's got a hold of me... I had another dream about lions at the door but they weren't as frightening as they were before....... 10. Thats true too-my father never ever ever throws anything away--and during every meal every single last crumb is always eaten off his plate
11. That's a good move. I'd think about Chas suggestion but there is no way that I can really know the inner dynamics of everything that is going on in the church and your town --so thats really your decision. I do know that if your "small rural town" is anything like my small rural town chances are pretty much everyone already knows about the guy being a leech and have set their guards up anyway without the aid of a news expose. or lets hope so
12. :biglaugh: I hope it stays that way. Im starting to get annoyed about a few things (CAUTION: B!TCHFEST) A few years ago I mentioned to Hiway that I bought a complete game on DVD from 1967 --It was so refreshing to be able to watch the game, sometimes in near complete silence without all the bells, whistles, replays from 700 angles, over analysis and most of all ADVERTISING. Since he is mentioned on this page, I suppose I could mention "The Boss" and other teams need to keep up financially but I wont go there, every team makes their own decisions ultimately. Lately its impossible to go 10 seconds in a broadcast without some sort of ad by a fast talking announcer..They've even figured out that no longer do they have to be at the end of the inning but now can be between each pitch. Everything, and I mean everything, has a sponsor now....that caught stealing was brought to you by LOJACK!, the official car safety devise of the Boston Red Sox!, Prevent theft with LOJACK! .. Does everything have to be licensed?....The official cheese...the official shoelace..the official pizza topping.....all added to the regular annoying commercials.... The Red Sox have even figured out how to have a damn near subliminal "Eastern Bank" logo whoosh across the screen for about a 100th of a second about 900 times a game. It gets to the point where you can hardly see the game anymore for all the interference they throw at you. I know Ive said this on this thread about a billion times but to me baseball is a game of all types of enjoyable internal rhythms. Sometimes its gentle and easy where the only thing that matters in the moment is a gentle breeze that you can enjoy for that moment, sometimes it has you filled with anticipation,..or excitement ...or joy...or sorrow....or whatever...but to me those are what its about.....The incessant chatter, noise and attempts to sell me crap that I dont and never will want, interfere with the natural enjoyment of the game.. At least for me.....I know that I'll come back..i always do..but until then Ive been enjoying high school games and games that I just happen to run into more than TV games. They look like baseball to me ..I did think the tribute to Bob Sheppard was well done--a game with NO announcer whatsoever..why cant they all be like that? Ok thats the end of my rant
13. My father has told lots of stories over the years about the depression. Two that stick out right now: My grandfather somehow was an insurance salesman during the depression, his job among other things was to collect the premiums from his customers(his neighbors). Many many times his customers did not have the money for the home insurance premiums , so instead of halting their insurance, he would find someway to conjure up the payments himself instead of doing that to his neighbors. Apparently it was a regular thing for my grandfather to work all week and end up owing the company money. (note- I can see now where I acquired my business sense ). The neighbors and customers would "trade' small plots of land for him to use until they could catch up on payments. My father and his two brothers, who were young boys, at the time had vegetable gardens that they tended all over town on their neighbors land that kept the family well fed--- Another story that sticks out is that 'drifters' looking for work were constantly coming to the back door asking for a meal, and according to Pop, my grandmother never turned any one of them away and always fed them. To this day my father thinks that there was some sort of 'hobo mark' in the back alley indicating it was a good place to eat because there were so many that continually came to their door. My father many times has told me that he never knew that they were poor at the time BUT to this day, even at 93, if there is any work at all to do--he does it right away, and if the fridge is looking sparse he fills it right up. It only came out when my grandfather died and we got a chance to look at his papers how incredibly precarious the financial situation really was and how many times they came very very close to losing everything. Somehow, thankfully, he and my grandmother pulled it off, AND still manage to raise a well adjusted happy family. They were good folks, I dont, and nobody, even their sons , ever recall seeing them angry or mad

15. A few months ago THIS GUY made the papers about 30 miles from me.. Ive been meaning to go talk to him just so that I can without any refutation or question say that I have undeniably personally met the Lord Jesus Christ--but I havent gotten around to doing it yet.. until then there is no way of knowing for sure, at least for me. About the best I personally can muster up is along the lines of a line from THIS old Jethro Tull song.... " thought I saw angels..BUT.. I could've been wrong" Christianity still intrigues me and the basic concepts I find sound--(Love, mercy, forgiveness etc etc) but I do not profess it nor have I experienced any of the more ethereal one on one connection type things to Jesus that others sometimes rave about..... well.... maybe.....very rarely ...once in a great while.....BUT I know "I couldve been wrong" and probably was

Not a problem. Y'know with or without words his playing can oft times, (such as the above piece) move me to the verge of tears for its sheer beauty.... Speaking of Peter Rowan and Rice playing together heres a piece recorded the exact same night at Greyfox along with Jerry Douglas on dobro Only A Hobo <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEK-NOllGVI&hl=en_US&fs=1"> and..speaking of Greyfox, its that time of year again. I'll give my annual pitch--- one of these years Im driving to Minnesota myself and stealing you back east. --I know that youve probably seen thousands of scenes like this but imo its just too good to miss. 19. To me that's disgusting. If someone wants to help the elderly-- thats really great-- im sure there is more than enough need everywhere for that--IMO churches should do that type of thing BUT with no strings attached or its just another BS lowlife scam to me...doing it in order to get something out of it, especially from the elderly, in my book is pretty low. I have to wonder with his attitude--Why bother helping them at all? Why doesnt the guy just steal their savings? Its the same thing -just simpler -and he'd save himself a step IMO It may be time for you to move on---
20. I dont like to speak ill of the dead so I wont...If in the past I disliked him it was mostly because he made the other guys (The Yanks) such a powerhouse. I completely disagreed with his methods and alot of things that he did but he was successful.... There is no doubt, that for good or for ill he changed Major League baseball. ...... Since I havent been hearing that much, and wondering what was up, I found this Manny News which seems right up his alley.... :)

22. Im no expert in the field of communications, but I dont think it could be categorized as an 'open door policy' or 'open communication if people who disagree are considered demon spirits from hell. Thats just my opinion. I know Im not the WOGFODAT --but still. My business brings me into contact with clergy of all stripes, sometimes Bishops, Cardinals or other higher ups--and I have found generally that they all generally are not afraid to listen and respond considerately and respectfully to all sorts of issues that I may engage them with and Im NOT even a memeber of any of these groups. To say she has an open door policy when she wont even speak to her own--never mind the outside world ---is a strange and complete bastardization of words
23. Is that some sort of bizarre joke? Is She serious?? What exactly have we been doing at Greasespot for 10 plus years but speaking up???? Neither she nor any of her underlings have ever been here to he best of my knowledge to answer, respond, listen to or consider any of the innumerable valid points that have been discussed over the years. Open door my *foot* Just about every other denomination or christian group that Ive ever run into, no matter how bizarre or how mainstream is not afraid to interact, not only with their own, but also with the outside real world....just about all have an 'open door' to open discussion with their communities and interested parties--- excepting the most extreme, insular and cultish.
