It seems there are amillion stories going on like that Linda, I only hope some one is taking them all down--For a team whose motto since April has been "Keep The Faith" and its theme song a gospel song "I Still Believe" its as inspiring and uplifting as a religious revival.... (I swear I saw some burning bushes today ;)-->, Ok maybe it was autumn foliage in the setting sun).......except more encompassing because it crosses economic, social and religious boundaries and covers an entire region, family and friends are being brought together and long time hopes are bloomin..... Ok enough of that..even though there is mountains more we can spend all winter and the rest of our lives sorting it out and telling the stories. Today is a good day, Its a great day. Today we get to watch baseball. On we Go! Lets Go DLowe!!

My computer is all screwed up so I cant post unless it and gs are in alignment and harmony which is sporadic the last few days: This is part of an interview with Curt Schilling (he of the bloody Red Sock)after game 2 that you might have missed....It moved me... From after game two— Q. We heard a lot of reports that you were not even going to pitch tonight; that you were having problems even before the game started. Can you tell us just what your situation was? CURT SCHILLING: I don't have the time to explain today. I just wish everybody on this planet could experience the day that I just experienced. I will never use the words unbelievable and the Lord again in the same sentence. Just the most amazing day of my life. ….. …….. As far as today goes, again, just so many things happened today. I promise you that when I walked out of that dugout today and headed to the bullpen the most shocked person in this stadium was my wife because I woke up at 7:00 this morning, which is a tip-off right there. I mean, I've never woke up at 7:00 in the morning for anything in my life, I wasn't going to pitch. I couldn't walk, I couldn't move. I don't know what happened but I knew that when I woke up there was a problem. I called Chris and I talked to Jimmy and I left for the park, and I told her that it was not going to happen. I wasn't going to go out on the mound with the way I felt today. There's no way. And that's kind of when everything just started. I left my house, I'm driving to the park and anybody here that knows where Medfield, it's a pretty long haul. There were signs every mile from my house to this ballpark on fire stations, on telephone poles, wishing me luck. And I mean, I can't explain it. I got here, and got out of the car and I got into the trainer's room and Doc was here. I don't know the medical science behind it, but somehow we had put an extra stitch in this time because there was some issues we wanted to try and avoid from last time and we had caught a nerve in the leg, and we took that stitch out and things started to change almost immediately from that point. But I didn't -- I honest to God did not think I was going to take the ball today because I didn't think I could. And then everything starts happening. You start looking around at your teammates and understanding what you've been through over the last eight months, what it means to me. And I did what I did last time: I went to the Lord for help, because I knew, again, I wasn't going to be able to do this myself. And you know, thank God for Dr. Morgan and Chris Correnti and Jim Rowe and Dr. Theodore. They made it work, and it happened. Q. There's so many people in the stands tonight, the two words we hear about you are courageous and hero. What's it like to have those words associated with you? CURT SCHILLING: I'm proud of that. It's better than bum and idiot. I mean, this is -- I would do it all again. I mean, again, these fans, every memory I'm going to take away from this season revolves around their energy at this ballpark. On the way to the park today I was thinking about stepping on to the field and beginning that walk to the bullpen. Regardless of what happens in my career, I'll never get a feeling like that ever again in my life like I had tonight and I wanted that. I wanted it for my teammates, I wanted to be able to glorify God's name when all was said and done. And these fans were as much a part of that. They believe in me to the umpth degree and a lot of times I tell the other guys, "don't be the only guy not believing in yourself; everybody here believes in you." That's what I tried to walk out there with tonight. ……. Q. If someone else was in your position on your team, you would be praising them saying that they were very courageous, are you courageous in what you're doing, do you feel? CURT SCHILLING: I'm doing what any guy on this team would do. So no, on this team -- again, there's a kinship in that locker room that I think is a by-product of the environment we play in here. I've never experienced anything like it. I've been on some great teams and had some close teams, but this environment creates an entirely different scenario for us in the clubhouse. I don't question for a second any of these guys doing it for the team. ....

I've had this Dylan song in my head for a few days, maybe , just maybe, the times are truly a-changin' When The Ship Comes In Oh the time will come up When the winds will stop And the breeze will cease to be breathin' Like the stillness in the wind 'Fore the hurricane begins The hours when the ship comes in And the seas will split And the ship will hit And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking Then the tide will sound And the wind will pound And the morning will be breaking. Oh the fishes will laugh As they swim out of the path And the seagulls they'll be smiling And the rocks on the sand Will proudly stand The hour that the ship comes in. And the words that are used For to get the ship confused Will not be understood as they're spoken For the chains of the sea Will have busted in the night And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean. A song will lift As the mainsail shifts And the boat drifts on to the shoreline And the sun will respect Every face on the deck The hour that the ship comes in. Then the sands will roll Out a carpet of gold For your weary toes to be a-touchin' And the ship's wise men Will remind you once again That the whole wide world is watchin'. Oh the foes will rise With the sleep in their eyes And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin' But they'll pinch themselves and squeal And know that it's for real The hour that the ship comes in. Then they'll raise their hands Sayin' we'll meet all your demands But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered And like Pharaoh's tribe They'll be drownded in the tide And like Goliath, they'll be conquered

You are probably right Simon, its been pretty intense especially through the Yankee series. I'll take a sweep although there is something poetic about the 7th game being scheduled for Halloween night in Fenway. It was yet another interesting sidelight to me that while the Yankees were trying to cash in on superstition by having Bucky Dent throw out the first pitch in game 7, the Red Sox were already seeing the parallel to the miracle by having Mike Eruzione (however you spell it) from that team set the tone at Fenway in game 5. I hope you are right and somebody makes a film about this --there are way too many details daily of near miraculous nature to keep track of... I have a feeling Manny is gonna launch one toward Jupiter tonight. Im glad that off day is over with, that was sort of empty --today is better because tonight we get to watch baseball. ....what a glory is the game of ball Walt Whitman

great shot of Schill praying in the dugout....
-
Dang--I know that they only have 577 cameras there but do you think Fox could get us a decent replay and angle on that shot by Ortiz over the foul pole? they're too busy selling beer

Finally someone with a real life personality "I want Bill Buckner to be able to sleep at night" Tom Hanks :)--> Curts Pitch For ALS

Thats a novel idea trading in between games of the World Series, surprised Steinbrenner hadnt thought of that in years past. Three to go then I'll never have a reason to bitch again III Three

I guess that he is a one in a million guy :)-->, more likely that he is the leadoff guy that sets the stage for their offence, and so it screws em all up if he is gone. He seems pretty fragile (easy for me to say I didnt take arocket shot off of my collarbone). Did you notice Steven Tyler screwed up the Star Spangled Banner? First of many Boston errors -gotta love these idiots
-
Not textbook, not pretty, I'll take a 1-0 lead though...a lot of pitchers used which sort of worries me, especially since the Sox dropped one from the roster and it is along series ahead....Ifeel very lucky to win this game -it almost feels like aloss, after blowing the lead.....Millar left about 9 men on base and committed a stupid throwing error...Manny .. oy... I dont ever expect to give an offensive juggernaut like St Louis 4 extra outs and win... and I hope there are no after effects to Cabrera (did he get hit in the face?)...Cornrows Arroyo was alright except for his throwing error......well all in all I'll take it but wont expect to win another one like this, I'll call it a gift. I'll try the radio deal Simon -I am sort of in the middle of nowhere so radio is a tough go, I'd prefer any announcers that actually describe what actually is happening in the game and provide information instead of self prescribed experts like MacCrackhead who think that they can forego describing and instead critique (90% of the time wrong), provide stupid oneline 'insights' over and over , and miss vital aspects of the game..Fox coverage does its best to suck the life right out of the game [/end rant] Sorry about that had to get that out of my system, I am pretty tired of all these meaningless flashbacks, stupid effects, air announcers and little focus on the game at hand...... O yea 1-0 I'll keep it
-
Yea this is pretty ugly 4 errors and about a dozen left on, still I'll take an 11-9 lead...

Fight against Nurse Ratchett and get those hands up! This should be a good one, and one for the ages-something that you may want to tell your grandchildren or just witness....

How could I forget 67? 'Old men forget;yet all shall be forgot, but he'll remember with advantages what feats he did that day-then shall our names Familiar in his mouth as household words, Yaz the king, Lonborg and Petrocelli, Scott and Howard, Adair and Smith be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd. This story shall the good man teach his son. And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, from this day to the ending of the world when they in it shall be remembered ; We few we happy few , we band of brothers......" Sorry got carried away--apologies to Shakespeare, Kenneth Branagh, and Henry V. I wasnt aware of that Ellie Howard story oof the Yanks but it makes sense for the time, he was a late season acquisition of the Sox that year and definitely added alot of experience and savvy to a young team.He made some unbelievable plays down the stretch that believe it or not the Boston faithful still talk about. What a race that was 4 teams until the last 2-3 days and 3 until the last day -I can still see Petriocelli catching the popup on the last day of the season as the RedSox came from behind to beat Dean Chance. Jim Lonborg pitches a complete game and was mobbed on the field having his uniforn ripped off... Yastremski did indeed win the triple crown 44HR, ..326 121 RBI's and his last two weeks of the season are still arguably the best two weeks any player has had in such a clutch situation... alot of memories for an impressionable kid.. As I remember it the Cards pretty much ran away with it that year., with Orlando Cepeda the MVP, and the likes of Brock, Shannon, Curt Flood, Tim MacCarver, Dal Maxvill, Julian Javier, Roger Maris and of course Bob Gibson. I think they had a pair of rookies (Nelson Briles and Dick Hughes) who won about 16 apiece, for some reason I remeber they used to take infield with a red and white ball that year.... Brock was phenomenal in that series-near unbelieavable and makes me wonder who the hell was Ernie Broglio, but then again we got Jason Varitekand Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb, so maybe some St. Louis yougsters will be growing up wondering about him...we'll see.. Last time we took the Cards to 7 games, t would be alright in my book to see it go seven again-partially beacause I hate to see this season end and want it to last as long as possible and partially because the 7th game is scheduled for Halloween night at Fenway and I cant think of a better and more appropriate way to finally exorcise this damn ghost thats been trying to follow us around. Its on.... Go get em Wake

I remember that newspaper and probably still have it stashed away somewhere, I was at the 6th game in 67 as a 12 year old when the Sox hit 4 homeruns to bring it to a 7th game, and remember the excitement of Lonborg vs. Gibson, both had been phenomenal in the series, Lonborg having thrown 1 and 3 hitters, and going on 2 days rest in the 7th. The 7th game was a bit of a letdown but still the magic of that whole summer captured me for life. Its only appropriate that their is a rematch with the Cards.. I dont know if the papers or the players will do any trash talking, I doubt it. Its easy with the Yankees. The Cards, the organization and the Fans of St Louis have too much class and are too respectable. I like to think that the RedSox do to especially under the new ownership. Granted some of us fans by nature are a little obnoxious (well a lot sometimes) but we are learning to take things one step at atime with focus and gratitude... and Ex thanks for trying I too was praying and cussing at the phone, 'tis Ok whatever happens. I am starting to come back down to earth after a frazzling week of no sleep and somewhat of living in an altered reality. Its not every week that ghosts, spirits, and curses of demons past are exorcised, you watch as an empire fall or long lost hopes rekindle a lost spark. I know its only a game, but it represents and symbolizes a lot. Its good to know that the good guys, no matter how eccentric can do it right and be on top..... I dont want to speak too soon...there is still another week to go
-
Yea this should be fun for two great teams, Ive been impressed all year with the Cards albeit from a distance, and Im glad to see we are getting the best, both these teams are deep. A replay of 67, which was the year that captured me. I guess we'll be seeing if your guys can hit a knuckleball tomorrow night. (I wanna see how scooter explains that one.)Its gonna be cold cold here tomorrow night so I hope that it doesnt effect anything too much. Thanks to Roger Clemens for having a bad all-star game and giving us the homefield-it may come down to that.

Thanks for trying Ex-I read in the Boston papers today that the entire area code experienced a meltdown at 3 PM yesterday-I know I did my part ;)--> trying on 3 phones simultaneously...So far no tix for me and Im not sure if I am going to ante up to a scalper just yet--but I may go back and forth and hang outside Fenway at the least--I dont know yet... The Red Sox apparently were able to pull the original ST L sign for the manual scoreboard out of mothballs from the 46 and 67 series and it is hanging ready for a different ending this time.. Should we start a World Series thread? I'll leave the honors to our Rev. Mother Ex since she did so well last time and I'm feeling more superstitious than normal this last week....

Thanks for trying-dont stress about it -- If you must-- maybe we can send ARod over to Karate chop her-He's not doing anything else these days

No Luck for me yet---has anyone checked to see if HillsBro is Ok? I do hope that he hasn't choked or collapsed ;)--> (sorry couldn't resist)
