  1. A members hearing of the House Judiciary Committee starts tomorrow at 10:00AM to investigate the many charges of Fraud and Voting Irregularities
  2. Who else would it be? Who else could it be? If you are even the meagerest of a sports fan, or just someone who has a heart and/or a soul read this weeks Sports Illustrated article on the Red Sox and their fans. It is one of the best sports articles I have read in a long long time. Tom Verducci doesnt waste time filling up the pages with meaningless stats or time worn phrases but has come as close as anyone I've seen so far as some who 'gets it' and communicates it well. an excerpt from Sports Illustrated:
  3. If they could prove that he has done something illegal or against the rules, i wouldn't have a problem -right where he is--sending him packing. I doubt it would happen, but like Shoeless Joe Jackson and the 1919 Black Sox, it may be stern but it is a situation that needs to be addressed to keep the integrity of the game alive. More likely the way we look at the early part of the 20th Century as the deadball era, in 40-50- 80 years people may look upon this era as the 'artificially induced record era' or something to that effect and numbers will only be a partial criteria for judging the alltime greats, and mental adjustments will be made to fit this era properly into history. Of course on a positive note my hopes are that this period will be known as the beginning of RedSox Century ;)--> (Its been 5 weeks and I'm still on cloud 9)
  4. Yea me too, I hope that Selig somehow grows some and can somehow get around Gene Orza and the Players Union and clear this mess up. Its a huge stain on the game I remember in about 65 when Tony Conigliaro lead the AL with 32 Homeruns and anytime anyone hit 40 it was an amazing feat. I don't know what they can do about the 'records' but it throws history for aloop when there is a decade when 50-60 or even 70 HR's is normal, and to me spits in the face of the players that have come before...
  5. Yea so what do we do about the steroids story? probably deserves its own thread or march on over to the baseball thread. It complicates things. Considering Giambi hit 2 HR in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, should the game be awarded to the Red Sox in hindsight...? ;)--> What about the sanctity of the game and the games near sacred records that are about to (or have recently been) broken? In a country where almost nothing is sacred I hope Selig jumps on this and cleans up the mess in a hurry.....
  6. sure--come on up any old time, its beautiful country up here---we can not only go to the restaurant (well..its called Theresas now), but the dump, the church, the police officer station and do a tour of the whole massacree-- we could time an Arlo concert in with that if we tried. meanwhile heres another Arlo Site

Yes, and sometimes regular markets. There is an outside chance you may have to ask them to order it for you
  8. :D--> Since Ive heard the song before I assumed that it was---never made it to the dump, but for good measure I drove by Arlo's church where they were having a big Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat...

OE- Ive tried all sorts of barley and green drinks, the best for me is simply called Green Magma. It was developed by a Dr. Hagiwara, I personally like the organic blend best
  10. Alice is Alice Brock who ran the restaurant with her husband Ray--She's still about in my neck of the woods. She and Ray were teachers at the local school where Arlo and a bunch of the Hippie kids went. When they started the restaurant the kids all pitched into help and Arlo's contribution (not being real swift with hammer and nails) was a singing commercial out of which developed the song we all know now--That's Alice Weird true thing happened this morning--at my girlfriends house in the songs town of Stockbridge this Thanksgiving morning we were cleaning and getting ready for the big dinner today and I asked her what else was there to do. And when she innocently suggested a DUMP run (to the Stockbridge Town Dump) I only could laugh and laugh, how many Thanksgiving mornings in any life are you going to be asked to recreate a famous song? anyway----sometimes things are inadvertently just a little too surreal.. O thanksgiving songs, you asked about song--heres one I have always liked by a folksinger named Harvey Reidnot well known but good nonetheless, only one I cabn think of at the moment... Happy Thanksgiving Gathering the Harvest It's a time to give thanks to bow our heads down The beggar for his bread, the king for his crown The weary for shelter from the night and the storm The fool for the wisdom, the rose for the thorn Let us pray for peace, let our children smile Let us grow let us prosper, let us love all the while We give thanks to creation for the good earth we plow It's the time for the harvest and we're gathering it now The woodcutter's home is made from the tree The tear of the sailor, it tastes like the sea The face of the plowman, as brown as the land The clay we're all made from was shaped by His hand Come soldier, come sister, come innocent child Come shepherd from the mountain, let us all rest awhile 'Tis the season for counting the blessings we ve known We re gathering the harvest from the seeds we have sown

My dad who is 87 , fit as a fiddle and sharp as a knife (got married a few years ago to his childhood sweetheart) drinks it every day.-I don't know if thats a contributing factor to his vigor but it seems to work for him.... I've tried it , but have been drinking barley juice for about 2 years instead, Green Magma its called, and about a gallon and a half of water a day--I havent had this type of energy for decades, all the 'gettin' old' symptoms are gone--haven't touched any medications at all in all that time....
  12. I still love to hear that phrase.... Babe Ruths bat -- 1 Million dollars Putting an end to endless suffering --- priceless
  13. I just checked the Cubs website and tickets don't go on sale until January--damn I'm ready to go to a game--today--- "People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." -- Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby
  14. I really dont care what goes in some podunk town in Ohio that much anymore--it seems like 10 lifetimes ago to me anyway-and besides every podunk town has some little scam going on in it where people are taken - I suppose.... If it were in my power I might make all their buildings into some sort of elder housing one day for all the people who whittled away their earning years serving them-----and I'd give the farm back to the Wierwille kids
  15. Well Bless Fred, there are alot of people that can sleep peacably now, and go to their final rest without that curse crap hangin' over their heads....It still feels good I tell you. I think (or hope) that the days of the self centered superstars, like Sosa, are drawing to a close. After watching what the Red Sox and Patriots management have done, successfully putting the idea of a team above individuals, I would think that other teams and organizations would catch on-and not hang onto someone simply because they are an icon -but people who are contributors on many levels to the team---lets hope so---Its good for the game... It's along way 'til June -anything can happen-don't write em off yet. ...I'm markin my calendar, if it looks good I'll make the trip....
  16. derail...or as Shakespeare would say ... aside Radar-Us Red Sox fans waited 86 years for this,we put up with a ****load of nausea over that time, can you forgive our generally lack of aesthetics for a little while, like say, until the Patriots win the Super Bowl again? Welcome to the sports forum.... Ok back to the thread I still think he should be banished and sentenced to a real job
  17. "I have come to the conclusion that understanding ain't all it's cracked up to be. In other words, live now , love now and serve now. Don't wait to understand." – ADG
  18. I said a year and thats what the commissioner gave him, but i wouldn't feel bad about it being a lifetime suspension. See Ya--- Go Get a Real Job Im tired of professional athletes that arent aware that they are in a very privileged position, and with that comes some responsibility. Fans pay top dollar to cheer, yell, scream, complain, harrass opponents and a lot of other things that they cant do at work or at home. Its Cathartic. It's part of all sports-always has been and it is one reason people are so drawn to sports. The athletes get paid very well for this, No matter what happens or what is said--One thing that is never ever acceptable is going after fans. Ever--It degrades and mocks any integrity the game may have. Jackie Robinson took more abuse on an average night than people like Artest will see in a lifetime and he never reacted but funneled the energy into making himself a better athlete, that was part of the whole package that made him great and fun to watch. The last several years the NBA has descended to the level of professional wrestling, I hope that David Stern heeds this wakeup call, gets tough and reclaims control of the league. I used to, as the commercial says, "Love this Game", as it stands now its pathetic and I cant stand it.
  19. Cool Strange One, I hope it works for you and Good to see you back. I just saw that the Sox drew the Cubs in interleague play Jume 10-12 at Wrigley.... that should be fun....anyone up for a roadtrip?
  20. A few pages back Simon was hoping that someone was chronicling this whole miracle and could do it justice-- Well we'll start with Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan who have been Sox fans as long as I have and from all accounts are pretty good story tellers---maybe it takes writers with a sense of the supernatural to understand --- The book comes out on December 1st and you can bet damn near every stocking in New England will have a copy in it come Christmas day.
  21. Yea you got it, It was Norman Rockwell whose studio was in the front of the building and Alice's 'Back Door' in the back. Heres a Rockwell that was done at the prompting of FDR entitled Freedom From Want Happy Thanksgiving
  22. :D--> :D--> :D--> :D--> You got me laughing on that one Garth-- Hint: he was a painter
  23. Good Guess-- as the song says--"Alice didn't live in a restaurant. She lived in the church nearby the restaurant" The Church is theGuthrie Center now, sort of an interfaith community center. That was Alice's house.... The restaurant was about a mile away on Main Street down an alley (around the back), someone else who was pretty famous occupied that same building at the time in the front. He's not in the song or movie but also known for these small slices of American Life. For the pumpkin pie--any guesses?
  24. Its about time the commisioner got a little "Stern'. The league's been out of control for along time, I quit being an NBA fan years ago. Its about time they attempted to take it back from the gangsters, thugs, smugglers, rapists and self centered egotists who have been in control and make it a respectable game again. They still have a long way to go
