I've been about 50 miles down the coast onto the Mayan Riviera toward Tulum which I enjoyed immensely. There are 100's of resorts of all types down that way depending on which way you want to go. There are rustic to opulent places catering to everything from families, to ecotourists to hedonists I stayed in a midrange all inclusive called Club Maeva which was fine. Private beach out the door, all the usual activities, pools etc. The food was good, the staff was very good and there wasn't the 'spring break' type of mentality that pervades a lot of Cancun. It was family friendly. I found that as a last minute deal on Orbitz, but lately I've been finding good deals through Travelzoo. The Mayans are incredibly friendly people, check out some of the villages in the jungle and of course the Mayan Ruins

http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/html/content/voices.cfm I'm not sure what they had in the 50's in VP's day, but they have pretty good medications and therapies for this type of thing now.

Thanks everybody--I had a great time with the family as I hit the magic number of 50. I have to admit I haven't felt this reflective in quite awhile, I hardly ever put pen to paper but this came out the other day "Where is the childs laughter? Where is the boy? He's grown to be a man Those crazy years of youth I thought they'd never end Somehow they're gone forever now, slipped through my hand. Slipped through my fingers, stolen away While I slept through the morning and dreamed through the day So little of this life we'll ever understand So much gone already now, slipped through my hand." Actually its not all backlooking and morbid, I had a great time and I am looking forward to the next 50, but I think i will consciously 'number my days' a little tighter. It goes too quick. WhereTF does the time go? Well... sorry for subjecting you to my public reflections.... Thanks wholeheartedly everybody Love you too excie

Love it, I'll be waiting for Geo's Spiritual dissertation on the theology of Woodblocks in Doctrinal soon.... Anyway, why is it women always want to throw out my stuff? I happen to know that I will need the half roll of electrical tape that I have had for 7 years the moment after its thrown out. I will get around to fixing the broken legged table one day when i have time ( I just havent had the 45 minutes required for the last 14 years. ), my old clothes could make great shop rags, and I am trying to find a way to fuse my old sneakers into a modern sculpture ( It will come to me how its done --just give me time). Actually I am not that big of a packrat -I toss everything, welllll---not everything----most things-----about every 5 years or so..

The O's are lookin' tough-they have one great lineup

I am thinking of going something along those lines Hiway--Its not that I don't love the game--I do, and its not so much depression to be dealt with as an entirely different worldview, and allowing it to come into focus.... If the Red Sox can win the World Series - then in reality anything can happen. What is someone to do with this stark realization?

About 2 1/2 years ago i was at a jobsite when I saw a baby squirrel fall from a third story eave and crush his skull. There was no mama around and he was still breathing so I took him home and fed him for a few months. He healed pretty good over time (except that he runs in counterclockwise circles alot)but never had instruction in squirrel living--I had to coax him to climb trees and get his own food and tried to cut him off from me before he got too dependant I put Rocky out about 2 years ago but he still lives in the neighborhood, comes looking for a handout nearly everyday and loves to play.

No we don't need to return to Manny--29, I'm in greasespot recovery and curtailing my time here, and although I love baseball I am wondering what to do with it also. A 40 year quest that could never happen has been fulfilled--do you retire while you're on top-- return it to pastime status and get on with other things? i don't know but these are things I wonder about these days

I live in a getaway place, lots of people come here.. Its always nice, but spring is one of my favorites...

I dont know if it is typically done this way, but the way the story is laid out the church (Board, Supervisors, or whatever the Methodists have) definitely sounds negligent, especially since there were previous complaints. The Board, supervisors or whatever are in place to guard against this sort of thing. There were obvious warning signs, it will be interesting to see how the board 'resolved' the previous complaints or if they just ignorred them (which it appears that they did).

I recently saw a very good movie that I posted about Here, which was a documentary about middle school students studying the holocaust. I think that I made the point in the post that it should be required viewing for everyone but especially Middle School age kids. I cant find the link right now, but aside from it being in wide release, it is also available from the producers for school groups Paper Clips

Do you think we'd confuse everyone if we started many different baseball threads? I'd love to talk about the tragedy of Nomar, the Dodgers, going to 20 games a year, being able to view a game dispassionately, Simons kid on the hill, the roles of ownership or any number of things that are going on here but my ADD head can't express the many threads within the thread without it sounding confused. I came here because right now I am sort of irked that I got the allstar ballot in my email this morning.(Vote Early! Vote Often!) Its April 22, what are we supposed to do vote for the best players of the first 2 1/2 weeks? Isn't it a little early? MLB is getting ridiculous imo

For what its worth Cowgirl I hardly ever come in the About The Way Forums. When I first got here about 5 years ago there was alot of new information and a lot of things in me left to unscrew. There was alot of psychological manipulation in the Way and a lot of self understanding to gain by coming in here. I did that for a year or two then --for me - I was done.. The whole episode became just another chapter that was a part of my history that held no more sway over me than my grade school years or any other part of my life of equal length that is gone. I found my time to let it all go and couldn't give a **** about it now-- I suppose that the timing is different for everybody depending on their personal experiences and makeup...

FWIW-I just saw something that I have never ever seen before---Manny Ramirez hit one over the light tower in left--it was still rising as it went over the tower ---and its a high frikkin tower---- it left the park, crossed a street, an entire block of buildings and landed on some railroad tracks beyond the buildings--They don't do the estimates here, but its gotta be 550 to 600 feet...Yikes... I usually dont get impressed that much by tape measure jobs but that one is leaving my jaw dropping Ok I'll try to quit being a hometown guy-but for my money Manny is the best righthanded batter I have ever had the privilege to watch day after day....

Glad you remember Tom, you have more on the ball than the goofballs at ESPN-- Gees --how quickly they forget Does ESPN not recognize games 4-7 of last October, or is it just ingrained that they have to call the Yankees the AL Champs?

This is what concerns me: Garth wrote: I've already seen this movie way too many times and it never ends good

I really don't know that much about him except what Ive heard the last few days. I've heard all sorts of radio comments today, some of which aren't too flattering. The Germans (who do know him)apparently don't like him much as church attendance has been way down. He is supposedly pretty heavy handed on doctrine which isn't something that appeals to me...or something that I think will have positive effects worldwide. I'm not up on my Cardinals or workings of the Catholic Church, but I was sort of hoping for the Nigerian or South American, someone who had more field experience and hadn't spent their life at ' the root'. Anyone can change but when I heard he had been a Nazi soldier it didn't sound like something that should be on a Pope's resume. I guess we will have to wait and see, he has some big shoes to fill

Well I didn't mean it to be that way--so I'm a little fanatical -let the board be about anything baseball, and I hope it is....Its just that where I come from the Red Sox ARE baseball and I get carried away. Games are a religious sacrament and a sacred inheritance from the ancestors (or just about), so I come from that perspective. Its a hard habit to break--when you see em every day ...but I'd just as soon talk about the Dodgers, Cubs, Rangers, Little League, the Toledo Mudhens, prospects in A ball, or why on earth the Veterans Committee won't vote Ron Santo into the Hall ( a huge travesty imo).....I'll try to tone it down a bit.. FWIW I hate those scoreboards too--they just installed one in play on the outfield wall in Toronto and it has already caused all sorts of confusion and dangers with the outfielders.... and that fan in question had his season tickets revoked and was put on double secret probation.

I was wondering if that was some sort of record Steinbrenner going ballistic and its only the second week of April... I think that they start too early. When I was a kid it seems they didn't start until the 10th or 15th and filled the middle of the year with Sunday doubleheaders....this April 1st business--then everyone has an opening day Hollywood like ceremony--while they are still basically getting into shape makes the opening 2 weeks sort of a circus...glad that's all over and we can get back to baseball. The Sox seem to be settling in with a 4 game ministreak--with the new guys Wells and Clement picking up their first wins here I'm home, playin hookey watching MLB's only morning game of the year (11AM start), Schilling has struck out 10 through 5--I guess that heroic ankle is healing up OK.

This has had a few days to blow by now -Ive watched the video's (heck you can't get out of the way of them) and the shame of the thing is that it overshadowed a great game... ....and the media focusses on the occurences that happened for about 3 seconds...There were no blows exchanged, unless you count Sheffields push or the one idiot reaching over the fence...the vid shows the fans and security getting between Sheffield and House and stopping anything before it got out of hand. I think part of it, a great part of it, is that the national media (ESPN in particular) has jumped so much on the RedSox/Yankees bandwagon the last few years, that they will go to great lengths to promote it and create a story even if nothing much exists, and that is what can be sickening. The part they missed and haven't been reporting on is that the Red Sox played well, beat Randy Johnson, and hit 3 homeruns in the process of doing it, which has alot more implications than a short shouting match.

I do like having my *place*, but yea I have a bit of wanderlust still... I took two 4,000 mile drives this winter just to clear out the cobwebs and to see the open road again....It wasn't quite like my younger days when I would be gone for years (this year it was about 3 or 4 weeks each time). It was refreshing and good for the soul nonetheless. although I love where I live, it seems like once a week i want to move to the Himalayas..or the Caribbean...or the Southwest...or the Scottish Highlands...or Ethiopia...or Mongolia, Mexico, Memphis or Mt. Fuji...

Who knows what he's up to? Who cares? I drove by this place in upstate NY the other day, and thought that maybe he had downsized from 'MOGFODAT' to 'Chief' and gone into competition with our little Greasespot Cafe. Maybe he has found his true life's calling flipping burgers
