1. I doubt if there would or could have been any 'years'. It apparently got pretty bad with Barrett showing up if he wanted to, being on stage, playing nothing and wandering around aimlessly, and being so self centered and self indulgent that the band had to either let him go or dissolve.
2. It would be a good site for The Museum of Human Gullibility. but I'd prefer to see it made into low income or senior housing for the folks who spent most of their lives there and have nothing to show for it-
3. I was thinking that might be a cause of the general baseball malaise....even though baseball is supposed to be the great diversion sometimes things override it...Thankfully Ive been a little bit insulated from the economic hardships that Ive seen elsewhere but it is a worrisome thing--- I dont know what the key is but I hope things get better for you folks down there
4. I dont know either-----but it seems to have effected a lot of folks ---I know I havent felt this blah about a season in more than 15 years----even the local Yankee fan friends I have--that we usually spend summers talking trash to each other arent into it-----its odd------and where are the regulars? Simons back in the politics forum but missed the season here, Geisha disappeared (is she in Haiti or something?) Bolshevik, Rocky, Lifted Up....weeks and months without posts doesnt usually happen here. Its probably all Obamas fault
5. I never got captured this year for one reason or another--maybe Im old--- maybe Ive been too busy----Maybe --I dont know what--but this whole summer went by in a blur for me as if it barely happened. I hope that somewhere off in the distance, Tommy Strange, who started this thread years ago, is really enjoying every moment of having his Rangers in first and poised for the playoffs

7. WW--I am having a difficult time posting pictures but HERE is a link with several pictures of the carpet some of which you can read the quotes without any attributions. One would hope--

9. The quote woven into the newly donated carpet in the oval office is NOT attributed to MLK in the carpet... I could see the upset if the quote was wrongly attributed, but it wasn't..... There are plenty of pictures of the carpet on line... ......

11. Good luck.... what are they getting for Parking at the new place? Its a shame about Manny-- I got to see him at a time when his antics were almost always peppered with something amazing--except toward the end when he became somewhat obnoxious...I thought that he would really fit in LA--but---well--- I dont know whats up with him------------nobody does----- no matter what he does --I still think that he is the best natural hitter that I have ever seen

Song of the moment

Y'know I think it is --I'll ask him to make sure ---and maybe I can find the whole tune and post it (or just get a better vid of Jack) Today the Boston Symphony is ending its summer season in my neck of the woods with Beethovans Ninth--Language pales for me to even attempt to describe it but I do know that it is always a very special occasion whenever I get the chance to hear it....I was blasting it a few years ago in my shop, a friend walked in and his first words were "If Beethovan had written a 10th symphony it would have been God".....i think I agree :) so that'll be my 'song of the moment' this afternoon :) Here is the First Movement... <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE-sS_1JQZI?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"> Im sure y'all can find the rest of it if your into it---IMO its well worth listening to all the way through every once in awhile--Today is that day for me....

Song of the moment

I scored good today... My friend Jack showed up today with an incredible handmade fiddle that he built from scratch and gave to me :o i made an offhand remark a few months back how id love to play the fiddle --so apparently he decided to make one for me !! its absolutely amazing to me--Im sort of in shock at the beauty and sound of the thing and the skills and overly goodwill that everyday people carry IMG_0570 by morningstarsg1, on Flickr So i guess I'll be figuring out how to play the fiddle for awhile now since I really havent got much of a clue...maybe dmiller can give me some pointers Jacks a quiet but very interesting guy...A few weeks ago I heard something going on outside my shop in midafternoon so I strolled outside and Jack was parked there wailing away on his harp.... I wonder why everyone cant show up like this? Thanks Jack theres nothing better than good friends <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGS_Y4CvOww?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0">
14. Just this morning on another thread I was wondering if that could possibly you. thanks for unveiling that mystery Its good to have you back ---you always added a very sound and thoughtful voice to greasespot-- I hope that you and your entire family are all doing well and, if you have the time, that you stay awhile. Welcome back
15. Its refreshing to hear that from a christian. I respect all faith traditions, to me they all have important things to offer. Trouble is but a few steps away when anyone adopts their own as the exclusive and only one.....been there/done that---no thanks The last thing I would ever want is a "Click here!" religion
16. Are we are getting the groundwork for a Hallmark Movie of the Week here? :)
17. I dont get the shows about every profession under the sun either---Pawn Shops,Fishermen, people who decorate cakes, or do additions to houses-- The History Channel must've run out of old Hitler movies to show or sumpin
18. :) Yea i know thats probably got to be the case, and I didnt mean to downplay the sensitive subject matter either...I know that it is real problem and something that many women struggle with----but--Its just that I always happen to see that same story line when Im on there. I dont know if its a formula that works for their demographic so they stick to it, or if their staff writers are just out of other ideas but it doesnt pull me in. ....and FWIW I dont like the "Origins of Chewing Tobacco", "100 ways to blow up stuff" or "Bikini Babes in Fast Cars" type shows either... I have a hard time finding anything I like on TV. Sorry---I didnt mean to derail this thread
19. so youve seen it too---its not just me then--I thought it was the man hating channel or something -I swear its the same every single time--every man is shady, controlling and evil. Gandhi would look bad....maybe i just see it at the wrong times.
20. Probably good that I dont watch that channel much...but at least it sounds better than the channel where every woman has been abused, raped or molested.. I dont know the name of it but it's 29 on my clicker.. If Im passing through it usually takes about a minute and a half to figure out who the recovering molestee is, the roles of the 3 or 4 different women that support her, who the evil shadow man from her past is, and a few pieces of her shattered persona that she is valiantly struggling to put back together to overcome her fear and pain..... I usually get about that far... then I continue on to "Cash Cab"

Song of the moment

Wow y'know Thomas, not being a church going guy I really dont know much, hardly anything at all really, about church or chorale music--but about 6 months ago a friend of mine was singing in some special chorus thingy dingy at the local church, so I went....The song they opened with was "Come thou fount of every blessing", although i never considered chorale music my thing or myself particularly spiritual I have to admit that that particularly rendering of a song that up to that point I had never heard before was so profound that it moved me to tears --which is the first time a piece of music had done that to me in quite awhile. I'd love to hear the banjo accompaniment version if anyone recorded it....

Song of the moment

What a lineup that is! Can I now say I 'opened' for them ?? Its called Loch Lomond -The lyrics go ---"You take the high road and I'll take the low road and I'll be in Scotland before you..." My grandmother sang it to me when I was about 4 or so. I had been poking around youtube one day a few months before for no particular reason and had run into this medley by Steve Martin that for some reason finally pushed me over the edge andmade me have to go get a banjo that day ..I went and bought the first one I saw and since the song was fresh in my head more or less started to attempt to pick that particlular tune out with my tin ear and iron hands So its based in this idea, although I have a ways to go yet to get even close and am way too impatient to try to learn anything note for note. With all the great banjo players in the world I dont know why it was Steve Martin who finally got me to buy one...but it was.... <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l31MSpojWTA?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0">

Song of the moment

I told ya I was in Mayberry! ................. I have no idea why Im posting this but Heres me some doofus noodling around with the banjo after a the first few months of banging away on it about a year ago CAUTION: Im the first to admit I dont have a clue what Im doing but for good or for bad it does seem to be what Im doing a lot of these days and figuring it out as I go. Maybe not for the listeners but its fun for me anyway. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov5fgYybM5M?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0">

Song of the moment

:biglaugh: I gotsta get me to that one of these years---Ive been to Galax a bunch of times --just never when the fiddlers convention was in town. When I take the long drive down south its the perfect stopping point after the long first days drive--so I do. Its a cool little town in just a gorgeous area..By that point in the drive Im realizing Im not in Kansas (well Massachusetts really ) anymore. The culture has changed ---and you can almost feel the music in the air. Porch pickers are a common sight just taking evening walks in that area. When I was there last year i got a little lost and went over a hill into North carolina which is just a few miles away and found a little restaurant named "Aunt Beas" :o . I swear I was in Mayberry
