Joe may be watching intently Its about time he and the Black Sox were redeemed

just an aside: Stained glass windows were/are not only a 'graphic aid' but with training can also be 'read' with as much accuracy and detail, if not more, than words on a page, The windows of those early periods not only teach the gospel and biblical story in great detail , but in their art and use of symbolism also communicate the spirit and mystery within them imo in ways that have never been duplicated or approached

Its a strange empty feeling I have had the last two days, about this time (1 Oclock) Ireach for the remote, or wonder "Whos pitchin' today?" and its just not there, its like the natural change in seasons..... anyway it reminded me of this quote from The Greenfields of The Mind by Bart Giamatti that always seems appropraite this time of year "It breaks your heart. It was designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then, just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops."

Since you are going to use the lifeboat analogy--I guess it would have to be women and children first

It sounded a little too wayish to me Evan--from The Charismatic leader who started the church by 'revelation', to the community who is bound and determined that they are the right ones to save the world, to the personal visions and prophecies that guide them, to their 'utopia in the making' -- the mega structures and gospel that are centered around business principals--- I am sure they have the 'energy of their convictions' but like The Way I'd like to see what it will look like 20-30 years down the road after the initial waves of enthusiasm have died down, maybe its just me but i sort of doubt it will all be as pretty as the image it attempts to project...

THIS ARTICLE describes a group that is just a little too 'cultish' for me

It was a helluva run--but they didn't have it and they knew they didn't have it this time around--I could see it in their eyes, and see that what was there last year now belonged to the White Sox, the big play when it was needed, clutch pitching, good solid play all the way around...about the 6th tonight El Duque had a great clutch pitching performance with the bases loaded, on the otherhand the Red Sox looked liked they were playing a game in midJune--Varitek, Graffanino, and Damon all swung at bad pitches, Graffinino swung at ball four twice with the bases loaded, not quality at bats, not championship play. The Whites looked like champs, they looked hungry and pulled off big plays over and over-more power to 'em --time to pass the torch onto another....This has been a good run for the Red Sox but very well may be the end of an era, Damon and Millar, "The Idiots" may well not return, Bill Mueller the anchor of the infield may not either--Manny? Who knows? Who ever knows? Pedro and Derek Lowe are already gone, by next year the team that has been so exciting for the last 3 years will be largely gone and start the slow move onto another group and another feel and another personality. This one has been fun----again thanks guys. 121 days until Pitchers and catchers report

That sounds right--looks like we are back to being the Red Sox---- I have to thank the Red Sox-- from October 27th 2004 at 11:40 PM until today at 7:38 PM, they have been World Champions, It has been a year I never thought that I would see that now moves into the history books...Thanks Good luck to the White Sox --They're tough and they want it

Pudge is a New England boy, born and bred in New Hampshire and has always been the native son. There were hard feelings for a long time after he was mistreated, let go and sort of hung out to dry.. The new owners have gone way out of their way to bring him back into the organization , honor him for who he is and what he has done and give him his due......retiring his number (no small feat for the Red Sox-they are very stringent and have only 5 numbers retired after 100 years) ...putting him on the payroll, giving him PR engagements as a 'Red Sox Legend' and things that should've been done long ago... Still its hard to tell, hell---I'm almost rooting for the White Sox ---I've always loved underdogs and the ones who never win(which always was part of the lore of being a Red Sox fan) and the energy and excitement in the stadium and with the team is hard not to appreciate

I thought I had heard the last of Bill and all that was finally put to bed last year... Do you take a 2nd baseman who homers in ALCS 6 & 7 and WS 1 then let him go to the Yankees? Its the curse of Mark Bellhorn ;)

Mark ---Where do you find this stuff? First of all i am not Danish so i don't know what the prevailing attitudes about such things are over there although they most obviously think differently than Americans, which isn't necessarily good or bad --it just is, and I am not really familiar with the way the government or society works. Ive been told that there are patron saints and holiday feasts to prostitutes in some European countries and that they are looked on as an asset to society Trying to put myself in their shoes as best that I can, I can see and know that sex definitely has some therapeutic value, imo sometimes more than accepted therapies that can be very expensive and yet have questionable , if any, measurable value. Doctors and Therapists many times do nothing except drag people along endlessly, but they definitely do screw you when you get the bill. Do they pay doctors and therapists to come to them in Denmark? How is prostitution viewed in Denmark? the story conflicts....what are the limits of their health coverage? I don't know, its like the medical marijuana question in one aspect because there will be a group of people that are dead set against it based on moral reasons even though it may have some measurable benefits to the guy which makes it a hard enough question but it also has the added twist that he is asking the state to pay, which is what they do over there for things that concern peoples health and well being... Heck I dont know--I know it would never ever fly here but their system and ways of thinking is vastly different. Its up to them to decide. Nevertheless I can still almost hear some greasespotters (maybe even some who would rail against it) getting ready to get on the plane if it passes... Good to see you again Mark

XXXX!! I remember talking to Simon last year about the beauty of infield defense, wish we had some now.... 1 booted groundball= 3 runs by the Whites interesting what happens when you swear on this board

Even if you have the walls high enough weird things can and do happen---last year sheffield hit one down the first base line-- it rolled into a beer cup and got wedged-it was quite a sight to see Trot Nixon try to get it out then hurl the ball (still in the cup) like a wounded duck to second....after a little discussion It was ruled (what else) a ground rule double.....I can imagine that things get interesting at Wrigley if a ball gets lost in the ivy, I know it was always a source of contention when I was a kid and balls got lost in the bushes while still in play Edit: Since we were more or less on the subject of whining during playoff time--here is More useless crap to whine about... For one thing Im pretty he wouldn't be applying shaving cream to baseballs, If its Wells it must be either cream filling from a donut or maybe Genesee Cream Ale

I've read stories and seen pics of ropes put in the outfield for overflow crowds in the old days (teens and 20's or so) and the fans rushing in or moving out depending on which team hit it.... That must have made for some colorful arguments.... Ive been aware of the g-r double rule but there are some places that it just doesn't make sense, (the CF triangle at Fenway is almost always a triple f'rinstance) in effect penalizing the batting team for a bounce. Of course I can't bitch, in last years ALCS Tony Clark hit one on a bounce into the RF stands keeping the go ahead, and what could have been the winning run at third in game 5. It wouldve ended the ALCS for the Yanks and there would have been no WS for the Red Sox... I guess they figure that its the same rule for both teams and just another of those quirks about the game that can keep you talking, thinking and wondering for years after the fact.

Yea I'll bet it will be the Sox.. Are they actually ground rules peculiar to each park, or are they rules of MLB? Ive often wondered why on plays like that the umpires can't make a ruling that fits the game circumstance closer-- There are some places in some parks that are always a triple, or where runners always score from first or whatever ...its just part of the game for now

I turned the game on in about the fourth or fifth and had never heard of 3/4 of the lineup, I didn't check times but I doubt that the Angels/Rangers game further west was done by then --I could be wrong on that but pretty early on they sat about everyone.....As far as Manny being Manny there are alot of good aspects to it--he's a whole package----, yea he might forget how many outs in the field or get picked off---but maybe he'll hit two or three 500 foot homeruns and throw out the tying run at the plate. Baseball is in transition, two years ago the Red Sox let Grady Little go for pretty much the same reason and it worked out. As much as I don't like to see something as traditional as baseball change i think that it is inevitable that there will be more and more Moneyball type teams-- but whatever a teams philosophy i can at least see the wisdom of trying to get everyone on the same page, otherwise it will never work and will be a mess..... it sounds like a real power struggle in LA---- with that type of attendance i would think that they would have enough money to build a real contender if they could get it together as an organization ---that is if they really want or need to.. .... If they can get people who are totally exasperated with them to show up 20 times a year and draw 3 1/2 million, they may have a whole different business concept than winning games.....

You're sweet-Lets go to one of these games (shhh--we'll put it on satori's Sears card ;) )

Only Good CC company Ive ever had Ex--Good to see you

The Yankees are in a tiff? They basically fielded their Triple AAA team yesterday themselves. Did y'all see the picture of Ozzie Gullien giving the choke sign to the Indians fans? At first i though it was humorous that a manager could be so politically incorrect but the more I thought on it, it wasn't too classy of a move to kick fans while they were down. I'll be hopin' Manny stays hot Manny Being Manny

Yup they are all paid to be professional skunks and thieves, squeezing every last nickel out of anybody-legal,moral or not.. Ive always been wary with my credit cards . Too many of my friends have got in deep with them and taken years to dig out. I pay mine off immediately and on the first sign of any BS I say "SeeYa! cancel me!" Don't need the aggravation. I deal honorably with them-I expect them to deal honorably with me. If not they are off my list and like Linda I never give them another nickel. Ive had good luck (knock wood) with the major one I have been using for a few years now-- a Boston Red Sox MasterCard--They have actual humans answers the phone (imagine that! and they speak English and are courteous!)and there have been no problems or hoops to jump through when bills are inaccurate. If Sears wants to deal with you like that-----shake the dust........
