Lots of places,--- Catholic, Episcopalian, Pentecostal and Charismatic is all I can remember right now, although I am sure that there were other 'nondenominational' and more fringe type smaller groups that i cant remember the names of....

I sort of left by default although the wagon was already heavily stacked and the bs getting deeper and deeper for quite awhile. I moved from Florida to Massachusetts in 1989( or so) the very week of the loyalty letter. By the time I reached Massachusetts and the believers I had already contacted to fellowship with, they had all been fired and disassociated from TWI. So I guess I 'officially left ' then, when I took up with them. I still did waystyle fellowships with them for a year or two but it was incredibly stale, then just got downright bizarre. I left that group in about 91. Pretty much everything on the list came into play over the course of time

I think it was Contreras, Garcia, Buerhle, and Garland that happened to Vlad. They were tough, 4 complete games and even in the first game loss Contreras went 8 1/3==when does this ever happen? Has it ever happened? People (including me) may question why the Angels went cold but the pitching deserves its due. They were amazing. Congratulations White Sox.

That had to have been disheartening, but at this time of the year they can't let this or the catchers interference last night take the wind out their sales. I'd like to see them mount a comeback and make it a series, its been alittle tough for me to stay enthused in aseries that doesn't seem all that tight. Is the White Sox pitching that good or have the Angels just gone cold? Things could still flip around on a dime I suppose ( I seem to remember that happened in the ALCS last year)but who knows.....I do have to hand it to the White's they capitalize and make the big plays when they count which is the mark of a good team... Even though they play well, for some reason or another I find it difficult to get behind the White Sox...I don't know why, other than they are one team in my life that has never really captured my imagination, left memorable impressions ( well...other than Disco night and the short pants uniforms) or left lasting names to tag to the franchise (lets see..there was Gary Peters..and Ron Hansen and Joel Horlen...and uh..who was that guy?....o yea Aparicio for awhile...and uh...). I know its shallow, but they are even still second fiddle in their own town. Still if they win it all I hope it gives the franchise a lift and does good things for the city, but I do hope I won't have to listen to another Carl Everett rant about the moonlanding being fake and dinosaurs never existing, if they do, which is what he did after a few big wins in Boston. maybe its just the winter comin in that has me a little glum today

They were basically closed when i got in in 79. Although they kept up a very thin facade of being open there was the same secretive behaviour of not telling too much to anyone unless they had been properly indoctrinated enough. The secrets ( i.e. the real Bulls--t) were reserved for those who had already been molded to get it. The paranoia regarding the rest of the world and the superior and secretive attitude was already well on its way by the time I arrived---It was already pretty much a separate subculture way back then.

I can imagine that it is good to be an Angels fan , they are an exciting team and look like agood franchise to get behind--I suppose all the fair weatherers are flocking to them now besides. Do they still do that dang monkey? and the thundersticks? That would take me awhile to get used to-- I wonder how much of the old ball players tales are actual and how much has been distorted and embellished by legend. ( who was it, Cool Papa Bell maybe, who was so fast 'He hit a ground ball up the middle and it hit him in the back as he was sliding into second'?) I'm sure Cobb played hard, it was an era of hard ballplayers, and he was tough but I dont know if he was ready to murder your mother for an extra base as some paint him out to be. maybe--but I sure would have likedto have witnessed it-or see some old movies at least- He wasn't just an nutjob either, he apparently was also a sharp cookie investor after he retired and made millions by investing in Coca Cola

Sure thing --I'll ask Phil today if I see him....meanwhile quit kickin yourself. Never heard of Alex, which sounds like a good thing-want me to try the Deadbeat Dads List?

I can understand your brothers plight--It takes time to digest big changes, It may not be so much about your sister, but what he has to adjust to concerning his childhood , his mother etc. I would hope that your sister could understand this, but ( and excuse me here if I am wrong ) she seems pretty needy if she needs "constant communication' after you two just recently met, Whats the rush? you two have been apart for what 50 years? Take your time Families take time--lots and lots of time to come together, I'd suggest ( What the hell do I know??)going slow, give people time to adjust, start doing things that normal families do as you get comfortable with each other, like remeber kids birthdays, having holidays together, summer gatherings. Start keeping up with each other ( it doesn't have to be every day!--major life events can be agood start) Get to know each other When I was split apart from my family because of my involvement in wayworld, it wasn't something that became wonderful overnight but took a lot of years of work to really put it all back together. Its worth the effort-It takes time to build solid relationshps but it is by far the best thing I have ever done. After being more or less apart in some phases or in some sort of not really close contact for about 20 years, we have been all back together for the last 15+, For about the past 8 or 9 years we all make it apoint to get together 5 or 6 times a year (all of us), and all of us have many other times were we see one of the other ones for something or another. We all stay in loose but close contact. For us it has taken time--but its worth it

Funny --you hate to shop yet you prefer to be going through the nooks and crannies of an antique store or rooting through stuff at an estate sale---Although thats a little more my speed its still shopping and a gathering of stuff. I don't know about the directions thing, lately ---the last few years anyway-I get to a point and will ask --especially if i am travelling around on business and have to be somewhere, if its not so crucial and I'm enjoying the ride and scenery of being wherever it is that I am, and most likely have never been before, I get lost enough in that moment and enjoy the small spatial challenge of finding my way again. Often times the journey is more important than the destination anyway
-
This is a good thread that i missed until now---- I gotta ask whats with all the shopping? I personally most of the time would rather face wild, rabid, hungry lions, or be dragged through a mile of broken glass than go shopping, but it seems to be something some of you ladies not only do it when you absolutely need to, but (shudder)also do it when you don't need to. Is this some sort of evolutionary transmitted thing from the days spent gathering berries and nuts?

Thats what I like about Lou, is that he doesn't have an announcers voice ---it took me awhile to get used to it the first game, but he seems more like a regular Joe type guy with insights that are good, instead of a slick talking professional who is trying extra hard to impress you with stuff you probably already know, which is the way I hear MacCarver and Buck..... (well most of the time) anyway as far as avatars Hows this one--its not quite the same but its still Ty maybe it'll work if you need to have some uniform on... I think it might resize itself if you play with the right buttons anyway if you want it its here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ja/t...0px-Ty_cobb.jpg

Just by coincidence I share a workspace with his brother Phil, a timberframer and builder of barns. Peter apparently is still in and in Arkansas somewhere (I think thats it), a carpenter and still doing whatever corps grads do these days. -Another brother Larry, who was an early wayfer in Mass, is also still about....I never met Peter, but Phil and Larry sure are interesting characters

Thats my viewpoint, he raised his hand signalling out, ball is dead, end of inning, team runs off the field. Are there any umps here? My understanding is on a dropped or uncaught third strike an umpire will say strike three but will not signal out until the out is recorded. I still think the catcher caught it anyway, but even if he blew that call , he still signalled out , moving the team off the field, then changed his call after AJP got to first. MLB will back him now most likely, but I think that he'll be looking for a new profession in a few weeks myself

Yea on Cabrera---he had 7 errors all year, and they got Renteria ( 30 errors)to upgrade the "D' at an extra 2 mil/year --D'OH! Theo aint always the genuis I claim he is What a bizarre finish--never seen that one before I think that ump blew the call-it looks to me like he clearly made the out signal--its a shame aplayoff game has to end on such a strange note..... I guess thats why its called October
-
Not only "SCOOTER" but Buck and MacCarver really rub me the wrong way and always have--thank God they have Pinella in there, at least he has a personalityand some interesting insights that aren't canned... now over to Jeannie.... groan I missed the squeeze----(I got the Angels--Sox)-but it certainly is.... I love watching Cabrera play short, I love the way he plays, He is one of those guys that is just fun to watch---it was a mistake for the Red Sox not to bring him back.... Whats with Washburn pitching with one sleeve?.....its not very ...um..uniform...

Joes Stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jacksjo01.shtml url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jacksjo01.shtml]Joes stats[/url] I dont know how he can not be in the hall --look at those stats--.408 BA first full year, with a .468OBP followed up by .395/.458, and .373/.460---Lifetime--.356/.423 These are gargantuan-- I hope that one day there is a movement to give the man his due-- As far as the others Rose has enough focus from enough groups fighting for him, but IMO it is a complete travesty that Ron Santo isn't already in and seems to be a forgotten man, what did he ever do, besides being the 3rd baseman for his generation? I know there are people petitioning the old timers committee (or whatever it is called) on behalf of him. I hope that it gains some momentum and gets a hearing-he definitely is also deserving Editted: because the link thingy is acting weird Is it just me or does the Fox coverage bug yous guys too?

Of course they touted the 'its your ministry' line.....If its to be its up to me, all that hype.....I gave every last spare dime , ounce of strength, and second of my time to them because I was under the illusion that it actually was 'mine'. It seemed good at the time--and I sold out to it and loved it-- but when the rubber hit the road it was all BS, it was all a lie. So, no-although I met some wonderful people in TWI-I dont hold onto that feeling anymore, long for the old days, buy into BS , wish to be decieved or manipulated for the aggrandizement of a few, or want to live in an illusion anymore. "Your Ministry" is now patrolled by security to keep you out. Any 'godly person' or 'person who wanted to see God work in theri lives' ,who had the least bit of maturity that some of us may have lacked at the time would have seen it for the crock and scam that it was, stopped perpetuating the darkness and given their lives to something a little more worthwhile and beaten feet outta there

Tough call, all teams have their strengths, of course everyone has to like the Cards, but they seem at least to me too much of a machine, I'd like to see Houston win in the NL just because they fought to the 7th game last year and didn't make and no one gave them much of a chance this year. The AL is a tougher call for me, I like the way both the Angels and the White Sox play ball, they are both tight in all phases of the game, play good clutch baseball and know how to win. I also have a soft spot for both : Chicago because they haven't won since the Jurassic Age and the way they have pulled together unexpectedly as a team, and the Angels because they have always seemed a class franchise, have good solid ballplayers throughout, play good solid team play, plus they have old friend Orlando Cabrera(my favorite most underated player) at short. Their only shortfall is a minor identity crisis on what to call the team every year. Thats a tough call and honestly I dont know if i want to predict, because for the first time in along time it is nice to sit back with no emotional attachments and just watch great baseball regardless of who wins.

They taught him to bat righty in the movie too, right after they explained that Babe Ruth designed his swing after Joe's  Costner was not one for details... Anyway --Why can't the Red Sox get guys like Orlando Cabrera? Angels /White Sox is gonna be good

I am not telling you not to, but I didn't have agood experience when I went the college psychologist route about 15 years ago, that Oeno is talking about--they are available, but (at least the one I was working with) was a college kid who had read all the books but lacked the real life experience to offer any genuine help for me. Thats not to say they are all like that. There are also in most communities, health or mental health clinics that have psychiatrists/psychologists/counsellors available on a sliding scale or that offer a fairly reasonable rate that can be helpful during stressful times, but like church denominations or religions they come in all sizes, colors, strngths, weaknesses and degrees of capabilities. Some are good, some are mediocre, some are horrible and every once and awhile there are ones that are very very capable, helpful and beneficial to be involved with. If you feel you could use some help I would suggest shopping around and looking for someone that you connect with and genuinely feel understands what you are talking about without giving you canned answers. Don't get discouraged if you want to go this route their are some very good ones out there...for me it just took a little time to find one that was right for me. On a practical level when things got a little hairy for a while in my midlife times, I started eating better, exercising regularly, strengthening my bonds with my family and building a community of friends that I trusted (all just simple common sense good helpful things) . This all took a little time but probably in the end helped me sort out stuff and find my stance more than anything else

Any of the underdogs work for me, although I am leaning toward the White Sox vs. the 'Stros I think it is time for the Yanks to hang them up this year. In one way,and although I would like my guys to still be playing, Im glad that there isn't going to be another Red Sox-Yankee series. After what has transpired the last two years , both dramatic 7 game series with twists and turns I dont know that I could handle it again right now-- Im pretty sure the way that it was overhyped by Fox nationally has fans in other parts of the country wanting a rest from it too. I know in my part of the world, although it has been exciting, it has been overshadowing the World Series for a few years now.
