I dont know why, but after not hearing or thinking about this for a good 35 years I woke up with this song in my head this morning.. It still sort of infectious--its still rolling around in there... <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg9LT4qR_Dw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg9LT4qR_Dw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg9LT4qR_Dw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

I bought one of those things about a year or so ago. I saw a couple smoking them in an airport, got curious, struck up a conversation and found out they were distributors. I bought the kit when I got home and then the whole episode lasted about 3 days before I was back to my regular brand. To be fair maybe I didnt give it a long enough time to adjust into it. They had all sorts of concoctions to add flavoring but to me it was like inhaling ammonia fumes. It was raspy and uncomfortable to me plus it made me talk like Froggy from The Little Rascals

A blonde, a brunette, a redhead, a minister, a priest, a rabbi, two giraffes, a duck, a farmer, a lawyer, an accountant, a Mexican, a Chinaman, an Irishman, an American, and a Scotsman walked into a bar. "Now wait just a minute," the bartender said, "What is this, some sort of joke?"

:) --He'd be getting a whole bunch of royalties, on a whole basketload of songs if he did..... I have no idea who wrote most of these old folk melodies--i really dont know if anyone does. I do know that Copland (and for that matter a lot of composers)based a lot of their work in old simple folk melodies embellished with their composers craft. This piece by Copland came from a shaker hymn melody " " that goes back at least until the 1840's<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiLTwtuBi-o?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiLTwtuBi-o?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiLTwtuBi-o?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Thats a cool idea I play along with youtube all the time but never thought of recording it.... I wonder why so many old mountain and fiddle tunes have to do with Bonaparte. I have heard more fiddle tunes that have something to do with him......crossing the Rhine, ..marching to the sea....Im sure there must be a fiddle tune somewhere Bonaparte Picking His Nose..... Here's two completely different versions of Bonapartes Retreat.. This first one was used by Aaron Copland as the basis for Hoedown <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yeQucos9-M?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yeQucos9-M?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yeQucos9-M?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> This is a version of the tune that Im more familiar with.. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNigFpaBBf8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNigFpaBBf8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNigFpaBBf8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Napoleon sure got around......

Christians, Muslims and Jews, oh my!
mstar1 replied to sirguessalot's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Apparently Muslims have quite a party planned as well.....or so Ive heard.... :) ..... really Im not sure if these "parties" were part of the original idea of these religions or if they are later constructs added somewhere along the line as a motivator during tough times or to keep people disciplined..(or something)...I really dont know----but To me and my very limited grasp of them all they all seem to deal much more in activities in the 'here and now' than they do with the eventual eternal place- ---but if it is true, why can't you only not shoot them for not coming to yours, but also wish them a good time at theirs? Sound very Zen, the value of nothingness cannot be understated :P many religions and forms of spirituality strive for that as a realization "Jesus emptied himself".... 'Moving Units', witnessing by numbers, signing people up for the class, how many people in your church (mosque), (synagogue)? seems such a capitalist, western, profit oriented view of religion. It becomes measurable,,and then like business--competitive--then cuthroat---then eventually wars. Nothing sounds like much more to me...Its also a common point of all 3 "the meek shall inherit...." a cup only gets filled when its empty -

I have never been able to quite figure out what that means or what that belief really looks like in the practical world. I.E. -How that belief specifically effects behaviour. Maybe it does but it seems more esoteric than affecting much of anything practically (I know I could be wrong on that.. ...There are more "down to earth" doctrines that are common to all three that would at least make for good common ground. They all carry one form or another of "The Golden Rule"(I'd argue that to be a central tenet of christianity myself-but that's for somewhere else) an emphasis on compassion, caring for the poor, loving their neighbor, faith etc etc In too many places those beliefs have obviously been forgotten, but they are still central points that the majorities in each religion strive toward. Muslims , Christians and Jews may never believe exactly the same on the internal spiritual essence of Jesus (I barely know two christians who can agree on that), on the ins and outs of alot of doctrinal points that are peculiar to each religion, or on methods and traditions BUT having many of the same prophets, the same stories and the same lessons they have much more common ground than differences in my opinion. -

Having not grown up with Q'uran, I am honestly not that familiar with it. I have attempted to read it a few times but have never made it all the way through. I have read enough to know that there is vast amount of really bad disinformation about which started me reading it in the first place. I'm still working on it as i think that, whether someone agrees with it or not, it at least should be viewed in an honest light. Im also reading a book by Karen Armstrong, who I have respected as an author, entitled Islam-A Short History which is well written pulls no punches, is honest, well researched and easier to digest for a novice like myself. -
personally I think that one of the foundations of good art, or good music is that there is no one final definitive perception that is "right" in every circumstance...They require active participation, imagination and input on the part of the listener or observer to become whatever they are in any particular moment....Ambiguity or *mystery* within the structure is healthy to me in that it can and does activate the creative impulses of the listener. There can be, and are, multiple layers of meaning within music and art as Groucho said "according to what the persons being" brings to the experience. I dont know if Im explaining this very well... I know that I felt much better about scripture when I could get to the point that it didnt have to mean exactly one thing all of the time, and there were multiple, maybe infinite, ways to view it. I honestly have to say that the mystery inherent within them now raises more questions for me, than it does provide 'answers'--but I like it much more that way, the questions themselves are good enough :)

True enough, I find that to be an incredibly bizarre twist since one of those shared common doctrinal tenets is, or at least is supposed to be, a reliance on faith--- IMO they'd all do well to listen and adhere to the guides in their own books and traditions instead of spending their time trying to change, control, and manipulate the others... -
I gotta get y'all a picture of the marquee in our 700 seat theatre here in Podunkville. Next weekend --in the musical concert of the century is.............Bernie Williams! jazz guitarist extraordinaire, former centerfielder, world champion, and the man with almost as bad a throwing arm as Johnny Damon.....the guy who didN'T chase down the crucial flyball in ALCS game 5 2004 but bested Mo Vaughn in the '98 batting race by .002 Im debating whether to go or not--and if I do--do I heckle?? (nah--Im joking) It would be tough though --I know that he could be in the middle of the most sensitive and beautiful musical interlude-and because he was a Yankee I'd be extremely tempted Its strange-Im sure he is a nice enough guy and probably a good musician ...but its like a genetic predisposition or Tourettes or something I'll at least get apicture

Hey Waits a minute----I thought New Mexico was the "Land Of Enchantment", at least the license plates say so.... Mississippi, home of the Delta Blues and Robert Johnson "selling his soul to the devil" at the crossroads, has an abundance of curse, devil and selling the soul legends....more than any other place else Ive ever been...(check your blues tunes) Thats a little different than 'enchanted' and probably a little more fitting for what their doing..... You better go sign up for their advance class right away waysider to keep this stuff straight! :P

o no---a buzzard! ..... Well there is no doubt that the "old bird" certainly crashed and burned...I wonder what these keeds that are undoubtable just soooooo blessedright now will be thinking when the life cycle crashes and burns again ..and they find themselves well prepared for life with no jobs BUT very good hitchhiking skills.... Looks like they are also building a new barn--do "the students" know that the phoenix is a predator?
