The Official, the Ultimate, the Amazing PFAL Thread
mstar1 replied to Modaustin's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
thats a reasonable question simple guy. It points to the end results of PFAL doesn't it? Just once I'd like to see one of these PFAL threads taken for what it is--- a class. ---one of thousands of classes on the bible--There are probably 5 or 10 introductory classes of some form or another going on in churches in your town right now, many of them are no doubt as good or better than PFAL in the overall help that they offer people. -
The Official, the Ultimate, the Amazing PFAL Thread
mstar1 replied to Modaustin's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
first post Its been interesting to me to see how fast the thread went from the topic requested to the idolatry of Wierwille. PFAL leads directly to the idolization of Wierwille, doesnt take long either -
It does work both ways in a small town Oak, but I do like it more than in alarger city. When I sorta got ripped in acar deal a few years back--nobody could believe 'Pete" would do such a thing and it was a pain to get any sort of satisfaction through the authorities --I eventually let it drop and learned alesson about 'Pete". On the flip side I have friend in his 40's, good guy, hard working family man type, good 'townie' whose 12 year old son was killed skateboarding a few years ago. He continues on, he took it but didnt adjust really well. so about once ayear he gets blue, gets drunk and does something really really stupid. If you didnt know him and his story and came upon him youd probably be po'ed but with the back story and knowing who he really is -its not all that bad--and you can usually just talk to him...and he'll cry, apologize, cleanup things and go home, sleep it off and be fine for another year or so. I'd hate to see him arrested for something idiotic and his family stressed when he has a bad moment when all he needs is someone to walk him home...

Ive been loving it myself---Im not abig winter person--It is pretty once in awhile, but after the last few years of weeks below zero, getting hammered with 2 or 3 two foot storms one right after another, and eons of endless depressiing grey grey days---I have to say that this winter is a welcome rest. The once in awhile snow days have been picturesque and not severe ( only got stuck once this winter--a record ) and its great not to have to bundle up like an eskimo everyday

Ok not trying to cause any problems here. I dont particularly like it or agree with they can put them anywhere though--especially when I find them in my wiper blades or littering a city street. Then its not only cartoon christianity, but intrusive, annoying cartoon christianity as well. but Im getting way off topic

Well Im right on top of things as usual sorry exie a 22 year career and I missed it-- oops a little behind in my hockey

gees now how are we ever going to know the truth of jack now that its gone? IMO and its just my opinion---since these things are littered everywhere, plastered on windshields, stuffed in mailboxes and stuffed under doors---is that if anything they would want the whole thing published or nothing---(so that we could all have the full unadulterated truth)--but what do I know?

Lou Gehrig? another one of the great 4's soorry exie --am i wreckin your thread?

um.... I think I'll pass on cartoon christianity--but thanks for offering They might make a nice exhibit in a Museum of the Bizarre someday though. It does seem very appropriate to me in a strange sort of way that these beliefs are put forth in cartoons-It says much more about those that hold the beliefs than those who they attack

No doubt -----Bobby Orr in his prime was by far the greatest hockey player I ever saw.......or ever was I like that other guy too--would have liked him alot better if he didnt beat up on the Patriots in the SuperBowl years ago though.....He's tough and a class act

yea there was a thread about this 2 or 3 years ago..... My dad swears by the stuff and is going strong at 89--- It is sort of nasty but whenever Im doin it --which is once in awhile as the mood strikes me--it does seem to increase my energy levels

I was taught that in TWI and used it as part of my nontrinitarian formula---In truth I had at the time spoken to very few Muslims or Jews in depth enough to get to one God --so I took the basic tenet that was fed me by TWI as a universal truth, and like a lot of things that I was taught in The Way it simply wasn't true HERE are the testimones of a hundred or so former Muslims that have converted to Christianity. If you searched (which honestly I am just too lazy to do right now)Im sure you could find a similar site for Jews that have converted as well. I know a few and there are also entire groups (Jews For Jesus for example). For me its a nonissue---

Im not such a dedicated follower of Hollywood as many of you. I just dont care for most of their stuff or sitting in a theatre for two hours I saw one movie this year(I think)...Walk The Line-- so I cant really do comparisons but Joaquin Pheonix deserves something for his role as Johnny Cash

What a bunch of hubbub about nothing, I thought the initial comments were pretty tame myself. Things like this are going to happen anytime you bring almost anything to an open market-some people like what you sell , some people are indifferent and some people may have a strong reaction against it. Its the nature of selling things. So What? Nothing was personal Many people here (and for understandable reasons,) view PFAL as if it were crack cocaine ---something that they were addicted to for years, that didn't do much for them that left them with little. I would expect a reaction from them. It would be a much stranger thread and much more unrealistic if nobody responded the way that they did.

I dont know Cool--I think that feeling of vulnerability and inadequacy that we all experience at one time or another is a valid part of our makeups. Not a big part, but a part nonetheless... For most people it doesn't rise all the time--but can once in awhile to remind us of the fragility of life..and it probably should....not in a self loathing sort of way but in away to remind us to continue to search. It can be a catalyst for growth. Personally I'd rather deal with someone in this boat who was unsure of themselves than someone who had all the answers to everything In the big picture most of us, although we would like to think of ourselves as strong and powerful most of the time, are actually fragile beings that are pretty powerless against alot of things. (death..disease..sorrow...suffering etc). Its not all bad to flash on that once in awhile, although it certainly isnt very good to stay in that state for very long . It can be a wake up from the million day to day things that distract us and remind us of who we are and aren't and needs for community, growth, rebalancing or as the song says grace and mercy The Institution of Theway would have benefitted alot if they didn't get so big headed about things and realized humbly that they were beggars once in awhile m just another hobo on this train

Some of yous might not remember this, but when the Iranian hostages came home from their 444 days of prison, MLB gave them a lifetime pass to every single Major and minor league game for the rest of their lives. I found it fascinating that they received this and always wondered what happened to them and if the former hostages used the passes. I ran across this story the other day that answers that: Washington Post I'm not sure if you need a login, but if you do, it's free and this article is definitely worth it. One things I've always remebered about this is an NFL executive after hearing about the MLB gift is reported to say, "Haven't they suffered enough?". No matter what your feelings on baseball or NFL, this is a great line. Lifetime passes----- even the thought is staggereing to me
