  1. Someone should save that sentence --Its probably never been uttered before..at least it hasn't been for a very long time... speaking of long time..The Red Sox won their second 2-1 game in less than a week. 2-1? The Red Sox? When does that happen? Im liking this pitching and defense thang.. It struck me yesterday how much I miss watching Nomar's ritual fidgetting in the batters box- every AB, every pitch --is the exact same little dance each time --which i watched daily for years and years. Its strange, the little things that become part of the comforts of your life--Any word on how he is recuperating over in Dodgerville?
  2. I though this was sort of bizarre. I got my 2006 MLB Spring catalog in the mail today. I thumbed through it quickly before before sending it to the trash heap. On the Hall of Fame page they had the "Cooperstown Collection" of retro jerseys for the price of 249.99 ---sorta good looking for the right fan I suppose--Koufax, Clemente, Ernie Banks, Nellie Fox and Dwight Gooden Dwight Gooden? Since when is he in the HOF? Hello MLB-is anyone awake over there?
  3. If your tired of google earth try Google Mars
  4. Im not familar with Dickey, but tried the knuckleball (like a knucklehead) when I was in HS, its great if it doesnt spin ( did you see Bard's 3 passed balls the other day?), but if it rotates even twice on the way in it travels at least 450 feet ....I gave that pitch up... Glad to hear that Dodger Stadium so far made it without being destroyed... Im already missing watching Bill Mueller...but Im enjoying this..... Beckett and Papelbon are exciting pitchers to watch, Crisp is like the wind.....
  5. AHHHHHHH Life has returned Boxscores and breakfast what a combo
  6. Thats Manny being Manny, thats his real hair and sometimes he blurs the line between being a player and being a fan. Last year he was on first when the opposing dugout was trying to get the firstbasemans attention --he almost got picked off while tapping the first baseman on the shoulder and pointing into the dugout. Its life with Manny. Varitek drives in two as i write......
  7. I'll pick that up Tom it sounds good--- I feel like a kid at Christmas today Without a doubt, this is the best day of the year. Everything's set back to zero. Here's to a great 2006.
  8. But since you mentioned him, HERE is what Paul is up to today. (Good Luck with that bathroom wall Linda)
  9. Good Luck Mr Strange--- Im not expecting for 110 wins over here but hoping they are consistent, have a few pleasant surprises. not too many bad cycles, gell as a team, and just get in the playoffs when they are hitting their peak. (looking to the skies) Is that to much to ask? I hope this steroid thing isnt ahuge shadow over the year either, I'll be glad when thats all over... Im still blown away by Youngs 453 innings ( thats three very solid pitchers these days) and 48 complete games (did all of MLB have that many last year?) Good luck to your guys too Senor Hiway
  10. This just in from The Onion: Steinbrenner Names Damon As New Yankee Scapegoat
  11. ....I guess yous guys better shell out the dough for Rocket then.... What does he want about $22 or 23 Million? How much is that per win?...... Im watching the same thing with Beckett who has had a blister problem that has put him on the DL for the last few years. A Blister problem? Pedro's got a big toe problem with the Mets, Eaton has a middle finger problem..... I gotta wonder what Cy Young who regularly pitched both ends of a double header ( and probably made about $50.00 doing it )would think of these guys.... I might be wrong but I cant see players of that day going up to a John McGraw and saying "my Finger hurts --Im not playing for awhile" and lasting more than a few minutes. ...anyway I'll shut up on that ....Bronson Arroyo has a shutout through 7 against the Sox and I have a hard time believeing someone believes the Mets are 5-1 Edit; Just for grins i checked the record book on Young--He averaged nearly 300 innings a year over his entire 22 year career, including 453 innings with 48 complete games one year. I'll go way out on a limb and say no one is going to approach those numbers for awhile, at least as long as we continue to have this hangnail and blister epidemic

    Church Radio Ad

Knowing the image of the Episcopalians as being very straightlaced, I thought THIS ad from St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Birmingham, Alabama was unexpectedly funny. They obviously dont take themselves toooo seriously or get lost in their own importance. Might take a minute to load
  13. Thou Shalt Kill

Thank You Kathy that was interesting. i dont know the answer although i am highly in favor of educating people--all people--to understand a broader view than their own narrow experience I for one am going to be glad when the War Gods of all the Abrahamic religions are assigned to the trash heap

    OOPS

Check out the verse....whats this...church of satan???
  16. Gimme a break, it wasnt like they invented the concept or proved anything of the sort, people of many denominations have been doing that for centuries. Its laced through my genealogy on both sides of the family going back to the 1600's. My greatgrandparents, who lived in a rural area, had church in their home for over 60 years starting right after the Civil War. Why does TWI have to take credit for everything?

    Cat farts

I had an African Grey parrot for awhile that didnt actually fart, but knew how to make the sound of a very loud human fart. He was smart enough to wait for a moment of quiet and then would let it rip, then as people looked up from whatever they were doing in perplexed astonishment he would start to laugh...which would get people laughing and engaging him again.... I miss Alex he was a good bird.
  18. easy Tom --- There is a long long way to go.......He'll miss what? 1 or 2 starts? or are you taking it as an omen of bad things to come ? Its too early to get frustrated--so far everyone is even and every one has question marks-- The crucial time for the Rangers always seems to be end of July and through August...isn't it? We all have a long way even to get to there..... I'll try to find you that $250,000 stash by then, thats good for stress ( or so Ive heard)
  19. We'll see---I live in a 'cusp' town, being about 5 miles from the NY border, from the Yankee fans that I know their primary hope is that JD lightens up that team, or as the article says pulls the stick out of their a$$. After seeing them at least 19 times ayear for the last several years it is certainly something that they need. I have never seen a team as serious as they are. It works against them...Guys in their 20's and 30's that make millions a year and get to play baseball everyday should be having the time of their lives everyday. That part Johnny has right imo, it works ---as he showed when he was here. ARod may be loaded with talent but he is missing an essential component if he cant get that part down.
  20. HERE'S a pretty good article on Johnny D, ..And an Idiot Shall Lead Them. I officially took my "Have you confessed Johnny Damon as your personal Lord and Saviour?" bumpersticker off my pickup today
  21. So I heard--I even saw a newpaper article somewhere that said "Clemens to start season with Rangers" , which was a nice fake by the headline writer to make me do a double take. Who is your surprise team going to be this year?
  22. Im not big on titles of any kind, I dont use them except as formal ways to show respect if someone has earned it and I dont know them very well. If someone has a legitimate doctorate, has rightly earned it and i dont know them well enough yet to call them Joe or Ed then I will call them doctor until the formalities breakdown. The same pretty much goes for reverend, although my personal feeling is if the formalities dont eventually breakdown there is something wrong. I know many revs. outside of twi who hardly ever use their titles and discourage others from using it but have earned it in a much more thorough manner than TWI revs. I also know people who have just sort of adopted the title because they think they should have it and they think that it gives them some air of legitimacy. It's a strange title, I knew a few Revs. in TWI who may have been gifted in one way or another, but overall lacked maturity, character or were one dimensional in other areas. I knew alot to who it was just a higher rung to show that they were better and more important than you. It seems to me if someone is really gifted the last thing they need is a sign hanging around their neck announcing it
  23. That is probably the most appropriate post ever in a forum called 'Keep your eye on the ball'
  24. I dont know about much yet honestly, Schill says he is ready but of course he said the same thing last year, when he was three bad starts and out until the end of june Foulke is a big question mark, as is Lowell at 3rd.(which i am guessing is why they picked up Pena). Im looking forward to watching Coco -he looks exciting -and on paper the defense looks good..real good... I'll be settling in to get to know these guys. As always a lot of if's combined with huge amount of potential....if They are not looking quite like the happy go lucky idiots anymore, having had two bench clearing incidents two days in a row-- (in spring training no less---). Becketts a hot head--so is Tavarez, which I could do without--Who knows what kind of identity teams will eventually adopt this early on --They're being called the Fightin Franconas at the moment. Its a new team and an entirely new feel, if (big if) they can gel together and avoid injuries (or at the very least play around them) I Like our chances and think we could surprise alot of people. Are the stRangers gonna sign Clemens or what?
