    Coffee Anyone?

Hiya Here's my situation --Ive been driving around and working in the south for a week or so and its gotten really cold back home (Massachusetts). Im really not in any rush to get back to that if I dont have to, and I really dont have to be anywhere special until Boston on the 19th...So Im enjoying an extended ride at the moment with no specific destination except generally somewhere not way too far afield. Someone wants me to go to Indiana -but ..I dont know--maybe, maybe not,--it can wait. Im in Savannah Georgia at the moment, a nice enough place but Im in the mood to drive---I like long drives and they are good for my head----anyway, where are you? anyone want to grab a coffee, a meal, or whatever--im open....

    Its a Cold and Frosty Morning <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfASb56qqk0?version=3"><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfASb56qqk0?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfASb56qqk0?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object> dmill--I want to upgrade to a new openback--with a scoop--what do you suggest?
  4. Theres a pretty darn strong starting staff of Lester, Buchholz, Beckett, Lackey and DiceK,-- any one of them could potentially win 20 if they could hold it together for a season and not get hurt.. Odd year Beckett is generally much better than even year Becket--so hopefully he'll be on this year--- DiceK got two or three years worth of injuries out of the way last year, so maybe he will be healthy for once and I can squirm and be totally uncomfortable watching him pitch every fifth day and somehow pull wins out of his ....hat....Lackey still has to prove that he is worth his contract so hopefully he will have that in his mind to drive him... I dunno, more arms always helps, most years they need at least 7 or 8 quality starters because someone goes down for months at a time....I'll take em if Theo can get them. I'd like to see catching shored up and always more middle relief
  5. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree that The Way was a church, even they adamantly refused to be called a church. As far as I can tell about the only thing that they had in common with regular churches was bible study, some of which I enjoyed, but it got very overbearing and unbalanced in my opinion. They held church history in great disrespect, did little or nothing in their communities( other than sign people up for "the class", spent more time on the devil than God, had a very high fear and paranoia level and , the more I get exposed to churches, the more they are recognizable as anything resembling a church. Even worship was boiled down to Speaking in Tongues... In way theology I could be shooting heroin in both arms, pimping 12 year old prostitutes while robbing liquor stores and as long as I was SITing while doing it and claiming my "I am righteous now" sonship right, I would be ok. That's extreme but not all that far off really. Maybe you are right, or it could be just a matter of semantics ,but to me The Way was so far afield from anything even resembling a church that I have a hard time reconciling the two. Sorry for derailing the thread
  6. I'd be curious what the book has to say. I cant really say that I dont want to go anymore because I have never ever joined a church in the first place. I wasnt raised in one and I dont belong to one now I cant reasonably count my time in The Way as a church...they were an anti church if anything, and they pounded into me how horrible that churches all were as part of their theology, plus their being an abusive organization complicates the idea of ever joining anything ever again I toy with the idea of joining a church from time to time and might go to services 4 or 5 times a year (or maybe not)if I feel like it. Generally my experiences are pretty good. Ive been leaning toward going more regularly to a higher church (like the Episcopalians )for about the last 6 to 7 years... (The buildings are better, the music is better, the liturgy and prayers are well thought through consistant and thoughtful, they are not political, and the people that I meet in them (I work for them-Im the stained glass guy)all seem very genuine and kind..) So far I havent taken the big step (for me) to join anything, are there some warning signs that the author points to that I should be aware of, and drop the whole idea?
  7. If I remember he had atough year in Cleveland last year, but then again I have to wonder is anyone living in Cleveland happy? (Sorry LindaZ) The loss of VMart hurt, I was growin g to like him alot--although his defense was sometimes lacking.... Adding Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford will make for a very strong lineup and some serious excitement but there will still be a big hole behind the plate. Saltalamacchia had all the potential in the world a few years back but has seemed to have fallen off the edge...

  12. Its been said--I would like to be so insulted-- but then again Im not the face of a major organization.... A poor choice of words by Cashman. I expect its more about the 4th year and a few more $mil. I can see both sides from a business standpoint but he's not going anywhere. He would be crazy to sign with anyone else. He'll be the toast and hero of New York until he is 90 anyway ... why risk that by signing with some other team for one extra year? This has been coming for awhile--too bad the yanks are all full up at first, third and the outfield..they are even overloaded with DH's...so they cant really move him around as he slows at short.... Its a dilemma for Cashman-- I'd give him at least 3/50m with at least an option for the 4th. It would be much better for baseball and abetter story if Jeter finished his career classily with the Yanks and didnt end up like most players do bouncing around a bunch of teams
  13. The rumors are going around but it's about as likely as Kim Jong Il being elected as the next President. Jeter is a Yankee, should be a Yankee and will always be a Yankee.

    11/22/63

I was home sick that day from school. I had a cold and a fever and was pretty dizzy-- I was 8. I slept in and got up around 11. My mother made me some soup around 11:30 or so and eventually I camped out in front of the black and white TV with 3 stations in the living room. She was vacuuming and As The World Turns was on the tube when it was interrupted by one of those "Special Bulletins". I think it was Frank McGee that announced that the President had been shot in Dallas. It was only a short time later that I remember Walter Cronkite wiping tears from his face announcing that the President had died. There was abrief period where it was announced that a police officer had also been shot in a theater -- then a suspect caught There is a blur in my memory after that--It was way too much for an 8 year old brain to fully absorb---I remember basically everything stopped everywhere over the next few days. Everything was closed...my grandparents came to our house, all the adults were very very concerned and serious ..the kids in the neighborhood were not outside playing, nor was I.. The entire weekend was full scale non stop coverage on TV.. I was watching when Jack Ruby shot Oswald on live TV--- there were hours and hours and hours of JFK laying in State--with the only action being the very somber changing of the guards----I dont remember the funeral that well-but I do have the Rhythm Of The Drums burned in myt memory as the casket carrying JFK was moved the from the White House to The Capital, then to the Cathedral and the long walking funeral procession to Arlington National Cemetary. ---I remember the folding of the flag,-- the trumpeter misplaying a note on TAPS and Jackie Kennedy lighting the eternal flame. I was 8, I didnt know what it all meant at the time but i knew that it was very very very important. It was at the height of the ColdWar and a time of great fear of the Russians. As an 8 year old I thought that they would come in and take over.
  16. Give me a fair warning next time WS, that one got me "so blessed" that I nearly wanted to put a bullet in my head ugh --<<shudder>>-- Thankfully you redeemed yourself and brought me back with Lucinda Williams
