When is there not a Manny rumor?? around here its like the sun coming up... Unless someone like Texiera is in the deal I cant see it happening (although that may not stop them)---Manny batting behind him is what makes Ortiz click. Last year the offense weakened but stil those two had huge years, Unless they get someone the caliber of Manny (hell where do you find that???) you risk a lot of Ortiz's numbers as well and hopefuly they wont go that route....Manny is too fun to watch

Way I had to read this twice to make sure my eyes werent deceiving me from Geo whoa, whoa, whoa-timeout Geo? do mine eyes deceive me? That surely must be some amazing shellfish.. Im definitely gonna have to try me some of that

Well if they're banning you then they are probably going to ban me as well. I answered your post I read Ezekiel for the first time in a long time the other day. Chapter after chapter of how screwed up everything was and how bad off the people were while they lived in lala land. Zeke didnt mince words either It sort of reminded me of that. Yeh they'll probably ban you, but its something that those kids need to hear passionately put in their own language. Years ago I would have said the same thing (whether it was right or wrong) but unfortunately Im too old and too stale to get that wound up anymore and dnt go nearly as close to the edge as I should. so you went over the edge---and its alittle rough --I still support what you said..and let them know it just take it a little easier next time You posted while I was posting---- Your anger is genuine--for me GS was great therapy and it took awhile for me to unwind There are others here that have been to cult therapists ( exit counsellors??) who have helped who may chime in.... meanwhile stick around here ...Its good medicine

Hokey Smokes is right. aside from the interesting times its going to bring to Wrigley--It seems way too steep to me ---an 8year/136m contract-especially to a guy who is 31? Good Luck Cubbies, but I hope that it doesnt throw the rest of the offseason way off for the rest of us who still have a lot to get. Anyword if hes going to be playing second or the OF? should be an adventure

Yea, he had several knee surgeries, I read someplace that he may never be able to run again which has to be tough for a former pro athlete. Its interesting but around these parts with all the big names it was almost always Mueller that people wanted their kids to emulate as a ballplayer. He always did it right For someone who only played here three years and being quiet and humble about it-he made a huge impact--He'll be welcome back in these parts forever

Thats too bad Billy Ballgame was definitely one of the good guys and someone that I really enjoyed watching. He played the game the way it is supposed to be played, and hustled and gave 100% through every game and even every injury. Baseball could use more players like Bill Mueller Thats too bad Billy Ballgame was definitely one of the good guys and someone that I really enjoyed watching. He played the game the way it is supposed to be played, and hustled and gave 100% through every game and even every injury. Baseball could use more class players like Bill Mueller who played hard everyday with little or no headlines or personal glory

Well put Lindy and apoint that I was trying to get at. It takes a little work and discerning to get to anything approachng 'the big picture' I like positive stories as well but I also realize that journalism (or supoosed journalism) is a highly competitive business these days with different outlets working to scoop each other with the end result of getting ratings. Actual "News" has taken a back seat to "marketshare", so for the most part your getting entertainment with a particular slant. If you like the slant, whether its completely truthful or not, they'll have you as a consumer and they get what they want. Beck is filling a need with the positive stories and rightly so, but he also has his own biases and agenda to sift through as was evident during his horrendous interview with the newly elected representative from Michigan the other day who he labelled as an enemy because he was black, democrat and muslim. Its not the first time Beck has shown his colors, I am equally wary of him as i am of most news people. He too has his biases. I'll take what he has to offer but not without an open eye WG said news is selectively reported--It is and I aware of that --or worse. It has gotten to the point where it is made up and fabricated HERE"S a video report of one well known network that goes so far as to make up news to make parts of the government sound bad. Heads should roll --but they wont--Its not news anymore-Its mostly cheerleading for your side with a few stories -true or not-thrown in.

I dont know if it counts as payroll or not, since the money goes to the Lions and not Matsuzaka--maybe payola would be a better name for it. I have no idea if any of these is the gyro but some pitches in this sequence are downright nasty

Albums sort of like old radio shows.... He's ready for excitement....He's ready for Danger... He's..... NICK DANGER THIRD EYE....

I guess you have to be pretty good to havea whole generation named after you. The Sox seem to be looking at him as the new Pedro Martinez. Still $51.1mill seems a lot just to talk to someone--then dealing with Bora$ on top of that----this going to be extremely expensive. Aside from the pitching I expect they'll be trying to open up some Japanese or Asian market revenue somehow and capitalize on his fame over there as well. maybe as a lure to draw other Asian players?? who knows? They have 30 days to sign him----then the 松坂世代 Matsuzaka sedai can start at Fenway

I cannot sign zee papers you have broken bose my hans

I was thinking along the same lines TOTW How many people that claim to be totally repulsed, will actually shell out their bucks and buy the book, or sit and spend their time watching the interview? Betcha a whole bunch Its a strange phenomenon

Probably for the same reason we dont see American news like this. Schools function, people go to work, children play in playgrounds-- we have cell phones over here too. Someone decided long ago that is not news or at least not sensational enough to hold peoples attention long enough so that they can sell them something. If 7 Amish girls get shot by a madman, or a woman gets taken off of life support, there is a trainwreck, an interview with OJ, or some other tragedy or disaster that is what is fed to us here about our country as well. The media feeds us tragedy and bad news to keep their shares in the marketplace. Americans may complain from time to time about it, but have learned (or been trained) to expect it and (imo)secretly want a little safe exposure to the gorier side of life to counter the blander parts of their daily lives. It gives them something to talk and act concerned about. If they couldnt sell it, it wouldnt be on. Even Beck airs this stuff as a niche market product that has a target audience and he even has his own catchy advertising slogan "The Fusion of Entertainment and Enlightenment". Its a product

So who knows what about Daisuke Matsuzaka? I know he was the MVP of the World baseball Classic, supposedly is the best pitcher in Japan, throws something called a "gyroball" and I know the Red Sox just paid the Seibu Lions 51.1 Million just to talk to him. If they then sign him at say 5 years/50 million, with the payoff to the Lions, they'll be paying Clemens type money for someone who has never thrown a major league pitch... Must be pretty damn good---he better be pretty damn good

Unfortunately Mr. Crewcut Customs Man only wanted to get us gigglin longhairs out of his office and declined the offer that may have changed his ways BTW HERE"S a recipe, if you are in a baking (or baked) mood I'll take a dozen

Driving back from Alaska in 74, I baked my weedage into brownies to get across the border. I remember having an internal smile while eating a few nonchalantly in a tiny border customs office someplace in Montana while the official checked out my car, I even offered him a brownie....

It was a full album sized rolling paper that would have held about 2+ounces if you were to roll *anything* in it. I dont remember if I used it either of course anyone who actually used wouldnt remember much of anything

This struck me as funny from those always on the money staffers at Fox---YMMV Perhaps He is not running, because it is not a real position in congress

Congratulations to your guys- Im not totally enamored of the Gold Glove system-- Derek Jeter won his third straight Gold Glove at shortstop, beating out Alex Gonzalez of the Red Sox, who was merely the best fielding shortstop in the Sox 105 year history, and who belongs in the same company as Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel among all-time great glove guys at short. Jeter won even though he made more than twice as many errors as Gonzalez (15 to 7) and had a lower fielding percentage (.975 to .985). I saw Gonzalez this year and what he did, and imo he has earned the right to be honored. Jeter is a great player, there is no question, but for all his fame and press clippings he may not even be the best fielding shortstop in New York (hello, Jose Reyes). This is only slightly less nuts than when Palmiero won one for DH'ing almost all year, even the devout at the nyyfans board thinks it is ridiculous Not to take anything away from any of your guys, but I'd like to see them change the voting procedures to reflect some sort of defensive analysis . It could give some of the lesser names their due.

Maybe these thing are slightly flawed... New York, was recently named the Worlds Politest City

Certainly was .and is... Red was in a league of his own, and with the greatest respect for Casey Stengal, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Bear Bryant, and Connie Mack-Red was in my book the greatest coach and then GM in any sport at anytime. There was only one Red Auerbach, he was a great coach and a great man who was way ahead of his time.... If there were a basketball thread maybe Id tell some Auerbach stories-which are numerous and legendary, but for now I'll just say Thanks Red
