maybe someone can word this better, or can think up the derivation and roots of it --(Its too early around here) but Like any ball in play... fly ball, ground ball..whatever..the out isnt recorded until the defense actually makes the final play cleanly. Routine ground balls and flyballs, forceouts etc.which could be, arent automatic outs either, until the defense executes the end of the play.. I like the rule, it gives another added and sometimes unexpected twist (or annoyance) to a game). I do think its a good thing that they amended it so that the batter cant leave the batters box , go to the dugout or out to his position then trot to first, anymore-that stuff could cause riots! Welcome old catcher---I am an old catcher too, I understand.... I suppose I like the rule now more as a fan than when I was behind the plate and occasionally wanted to crawl into a hole after letting one get by and sailing the throw to first into rightfield.. At those times I definitely wanted the rule repealed.. but imo it is a good quirk that can add unexpected excitement and drama to the game

Hadnt heard that, your not confusing it with basketball are you? I think there was some furor in the NBA this year over something like that.

Be well Mark Memento homo, quia pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain-offering and a drink-offering for the Lord, your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy. Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep. Let them say, ‘Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage a mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, “Where is their God?” Joel 2:12-17

.....its those colorfully embroidered vestments deary...they are just so fabulous... :) -no offense intended --I couldnt resist that one there are probably lots of reasons I woud think mostly a real devotion to what they consider to be the one true faith in spite of their being gay. I've never seen any stats, but in a group as large as the RC Church I would guess that the rate of gay priests is probably about the same or less than you would find in the general population. Being gay doesnt make them child molesters anymore than it would for a heterosexual-besides they all take a vow of chastity-dont they? which should render their sexual orientation moot. It may work for some or even a lot of them... but the problem is -its not practical to human nature for just anyone to undergo such stringent rules to thwart the sexual drive without it becoming occasionally distorted and coming out in horrible ways I would think that they would have figured that out sometime over the last 1000 years or so , and if they wanted to keep that discipline, to place more stringent safeguards and mechanisms into their system.

Your welcome! I honestly dont know all that much about them myself, ( as I said Im not up on my church history) but I find they are a very interesting group. I find it especuially interesting that they have somehow stayed off the frontpage and out of the limelight of history for a very long time unlike their Roman brothers. Im not sure if thats because their church developed more along monastic lines as opposed to having a dioscesene model but I have atendency to think so. Whether the two different structures were actually laid out as formats in the NT I doubt but am of the opinion that they were picked up and adapted to the church (especially Rome) from the political structures that were working in the empire at the time, which had an emphasis on centralized power and control, and the contemplative monastic model of the celtic church from the existing spiritual communities and traditions of Britannia (like the Druids) that esteemed each individual and revered community...Ones not necessarily betteror righter than the other but it did give the Romans a huge leg up in the PR Department via political involvement for the last few millenia Unfortunately (well for us anyway) the Celts , like a lot of other cultures, were a culture that had oral tradition as one of its centerpoints, (It still does have a reverence for poets, bards, sages, and stories--try any Irish Pub!) and wasnt as meticulous in its written records as the Romans or the Hebrews, so all things Celt are bathed in legend and mystery and verfication of actual details via written records unless one has an incredibly diligence (like yourself) are difficult---but I suppose not impossible. Your questions are honest--and to be honest I am not going to read the entire works of Tertullian or Eusebius just yet to hunt down a phrase that some well meaing web geek may have botched in the first place ( maybe womeday i will-but not today)--there are email addresses to all the leaders of the church that you provided the link for-they'd no better than I--- anyway glad you enjoyed the time reading about them---you just found out about them yesterday maybe they'll hold something for you.

getting way way Im not up on my church history , but there are other groups that developed in various places parallel and somewhat independantly of the Rome Church that hold to 'the one true apostolic catholic faith', that have not been schismatic, since they developed separately for many centuries but also have not succombed to what often amounts to a political power grab by the bishops of Rome. Orthodox isnt the only alternative, Have you looked at the Celtic Church? their roots are just as old, their doctrines very similar, histories and development different, and administration of hierarchy (in my limited understanding) much different....calling them schismatic, only comes from the assumption that the church at Rome was the one and only true development of the church, the Celtic church being detached from the Roman Empire and therefore Rome developed not schismatically but independantly (and I am not trying to attempting to chase you away from Roman Catholicism, since you are very sincere about your faith I am just asking...)

I am not a Catholic and never have been, but should I convert, then become lapsed and then decide to be officially removed, I'll know where to go. I suppose a lot could be brought up in doctrinal about this....(arent the bonds supposedly..indissoluable?...?), but Im not familar enough with catholic doctrine to discuss it, I am pretty sure it would be the right move for some people..

whoa--I actually went snowblind today which has never happened to me before. It was gorgeous today, brilliant sun with crystal clear blue skies, and a bout 2+ feet of brilliant white everywhere laced over the hills. Crusty and heavy-- a good workout to shovel it all----especially since my workshop had been plowed up against the door ( grrr...). I didnt realize how bright it was outside until I finally made it inside my shop and couldnt see anything at all for a good half hour-which was very spooky- It took a long while for my eyes to readjust best to wear the shades next time---

Well I am under two feet of snow and ice but it was good to watch the first guys playing a game of catch yesterday. I found THIS STORY yesterday. ESPN sent a writer to Pearl Lagoon, a tiny town on the Nicaraguan coast where Devern Hansack was born, raised, and continues to live in the offseason. The story and photo essay gives a little insight into the most unlikely member of last year's Red Sox team. Im sure that there will be a few more stories like this during the year. With all the hype about big money players I still always like to see the little guy make good..

Your Result: Boston You definitely have a Boston accent even if you think you don't. I was born and raised 10 miles from downtown Boston, so they were off by 10 miles , but I'll give it to 'em, even though its not as thick as people from 'in town' Interesting how they can do that in a few written questions

I didnt get it either, if he had thanked the 'wonderful, matchless, petro-chemical companies", it would have been clearer to me, as it is I dont know how much involvement God or Jesus or "the Word" have with the petro chemical companies, if any, --not saying they dont--just seems like a leap to credit petro profits to ''the word' and not to investing that follows a certain type of human logic and reasoning. In which case thank God you have brain to make money, if money moves you.

sidebar: I'd let this go except that I know WordWolf is an intense stickler for details. The American Episcopal Church falls under the umbrella of The Worldwide Anglican Communion, but although it is similar in many ways to the Church of England it actually draws its genesis directly from The Scottish Episcopal Church and not the English Church. Although there are close similarities; there are Anglican Churches and Episcopalian Churches in the United States. The Anglicans generally being the more conservative and the episcopalians the more progressive. Similar roots, similar in many ways, but different churches, not exactly 'all the same' Thats all sorry for the interruption Carry on

Ive run into similar things too many times in repair shops. Maybe it was an honest mistake, if so let them make it good, but too may times in too many shops I go in for something simple and it leads to a whole host of other things that go wrong either right out of the shop or a few days or weeks later. It seems to be not an uncommon game. If the pattern happens a few times I move on until I find someone that I trust and respect as a mechanic. I have a good mechanic now, who is honest, a good mechanic, fair in price, always returns any of my vehicles in top shape and gives me a long range forecast, plus he always gets me right in and answers my questions on the phone--none of this 'see me in two weeks' BS... but it took me a few years to find him. If you dont feel certain or comfortable about him, Id look for a new mechanic--

It also has that sort of sinking ship look to itas far as Thanks, Being part of my job and also a long time hobby Ive been taking pictures and studying architecture of sacred, spiritual and religious sites of all kinds for over 20 years, from cathedrals, to country churches, to stone circles, to tent revivals, to medicine wheels to comtemplative one room 'cells' to 'mall' churches ..to well you name it...To me they all do reflect what they do and what they believe, whether they intend it to or not. Its unavoidable. This building fits CES , since it/they is a direct descendant of the BRC and before that the Pikes Peak University which photos were here a few years back...The same beliefs produce the same basic type of actions. I am a big fan of architecture , especially good architecture, Theres is utilitarian , conservative, basic and simple , much the way they are or attempt to be, there are few embellishments, the lawn is mowed, but there doesnt appear to be even so much as a simple garden, or anything to set it aside from a million buildings just exactly like it, other than the sign stuck in the ground on the front lawn and the logo painted on the picture window. I made no comment whether or not they were fulfilling their mission or not (whatever exactly that might be) but It still looks like a dentists office to me -
It also seems to me togenerally be a waste of time, people have debated about what they can know little or next to nothing for centuries when they could have been doing something constructive in the here and now--which to me at least signifies a real trust and faith concerning any afterlife

It looks like a dentists office. Do they have Highlights Magazines inside the side door beside a rack of their fold over brochures? Not exactly a cathedral but like any 'spiritual' place, it does mirror what they do and who they are. Its the suburban dentist office approach to spirituality -
I didnt say it was out of order--it was out of character. I just wasnt expecting it hence the laugh. Being in a border town alot of my good friends are yankee fans- Its what we do alot of the time
