They are good and fun on alot of levels...- I get them again next week in a venue that only holds about 70 :) and glad to see that there is another Susan Werner fan here, I saw her last summer and was absolutely blown out of the saddle by what an amazingly original songwriter she is-and performer --she is could convince me that I was lost in time

:) Its all true even the few bears around here wont really bother you all that much I watched as one went up on the deck the other day,.... then walked in the kitchen door,,,then came out a few minutes later with a box of Triscuits in his mouth ... and then ambled away, Thats the only time Ive seen anything stolen around here.....and even he was reasonably polite about it...

Believe me I know, I suffered through too many years of seeing miserable bullpens and miserable closers. . In 2004 when Keith Foulke arrived finally someone was lights out through most of the year, but the next year in 2005 he was shellshocked early on and it got to the point where it was hideous to see him come in, Toward the end you would swear that HE didnt even want to be out there but was grooving gopherballs just so he could get off the mound. I feel very lucky right now, Papelbon was originally slated to be a starter out of Triple AAA in '06 and (sort of) got the closer by accident, and has adapted well (understatement) having the right temperament and makeup that not everyone has.. I'll take it, enjoy it, and say thanks day by day, After too many years of watching too many games slip away its nice not to have either heart palpitations, or ulcers or disappointment every ninth inning, but to look forward to him glaring in to get the sign. Its one of those little things , like Nomars fidgeting in the batters box used to be for me, that I really enjoy and look forward to when i watch a game now.

that looked like a really good game (the little that I saw of it) but the balk will probably make the highlights as one of the strangest and weirdest looking plays of the year.... Well called, its a beautiful thing when it works that way, I just watched Jonathan Papelbon K K , ground out to short. in the 9th to save a 2-1 game, after Hideki Okajima (the other japanese Sox pitcher) worked a popup. K popup 8th. You almost had it exact Good Luck on finding a closer, it makes it a helluva lot more enjoyable (to me anyway) when you cant wait to get to your closer, because you have confidence that it means one thing "lights out" What was it like seeing Gagne closeup Hiway? some of those years he had were amazing

God that sounds terrible- I'll be hoping you can find your new place soon, as it is I'll plug MY PLACE CLICK Heres the The Wikipedia link We want to move where 1. English is the primary if not the only language spoken. (Accents are okay) Check, you will have to endure both Boston and New York accents though 2. We want to live where crime is low Check, very low, everyone leaves their doors unlocked, more often than not my keys are in my car 3. Where there are no gangs or they are so few they did not go into the burbs No gangs 4. Where the Katrina criminals did not end up (Some folks fine, but the criminals hit certain areas and the crime spiked, and they do not want to go back, our crime is soaring as a result of our town housing "them") A handful came here from New Orleans, no criminals, no crime spike 5. Where maybe there is an older community so we are not dealing with teens There has never been a problem with teens, my town has a college that is for high school age kids, so the teens are more on the geeky, smart, artsy side, than the violent stupid side 6. Where I can still work and I need to make more than I am now Jobs can be tough unless you have your own skill, trade or craft, but can be had 7. Prefer some place without a lot of humidity In the summer for a month or so it can be alittle high 8. Where I can still have a gun for protection. If you want, the only thing you will have to protect yourself against is an occasional errant bear 9. If possible near water; lake or ocean Lots of lakes and streams, about 2 hours from the ocean 10. Where people have teeth. And no appliances on their porch Its pretty upscale 11. Where water is drank more than beer Never did a survey, but I dont hear much belching in public, you are more likely to run into people that drink rare wine than beer though 12. Where single family homes only house SINGLE families Check--zoning laws y'know 13. Where cars are transportaion and not lawn decorations. check-towns are pretty quick to clean any violations, and keep up the image of the area Without time travel -- I cannot return to the 50's or 60's. It can actually be ahead of its time in alot of ways here, its very relaxed and easy going, So, what do you think? I live in a vacation spot, so the prices can be a little steep, and the worse thing around is the invasion of wealthy New Yorkers every summer who clog traffic a little, but it is a beautiful, relaxed and friendly area. The economy mostly revolves around the arts community which is not only plentiful but mostly pretty high end and brings a lot of $$ into the area, its a good combination for me, I can hike or kayak, or go to a great art museum and eat at any of many fine dining restaurants and still live in a town with less than 10,000 where I know most of the people. It can be a little eccentric (my town prints its own money) but I guarantee that you'll never find burned body parts down the street, maybe some progressive sculpture exhibit that might strike you as a little different, but no bones. The one drawback for me is the winters which are cold and long, it would be great if I was a skiiersince there are ski places all over, but winter is not really my thing.... Any ideas? wherever the heck you live, I'd be going going gone from there ASAP--wherever you decide to go---good luck

Wow! I saw her when she was about 17 and known then as a fiddler, everytime I hear her voice now I swear I almost hear the voice of an angel.... speaking of gospelly type music, and music that can get me, at least emotionally tied to it and sometimes even... misty--- Ive been a fan of Ollabelle's rootsy gospel music for about 4 years now, when I saw them backing up the Blind Boys Of Alabama--they a have a great feel. I cant find any videos of them that are any good, but is a mini sort of documentary type thing Complete ..with out of synch audio!!) on them. They play smaller venues and come through here about twice a year, if they are up your way check them out, I think that you would appreciate them

Bible drawn into sex publication controversy (Hong Kong)
mstar1 replied to markomalley's topic in Open
Ive heard more or less the same thing before although never seen it in print, There is raping and incest and a whole helluva lot of violence, killin' and murderin' in the Bible, If someone was unfamiliar with the contents, and they were fed only the soundbite reviews, i suppose I could see how they could get upset, much the same way people here can want to wipe out an entire culture because of a few quotes from the Quran, or form an opinion about a movie from a 30 second review. I dont agree with it, A little knowledge is still a dangerous thing Of course also in China which has about a bazillion people, I doubt that the opinions of 843 are going to mean all that much anyway -
Sheesh--- you could save at least 10 minutes if you started the swim from the Black Falcon Pier instead of Long Wharf

Y'know it wasnt really the vitamin itself that got lodged, it just aggravated something the wrong way,Its allergy season, everything just bloomed, and whether I like to admit it or not i was more congested than usual. I also had just awakened a few minutes before, hadnt thoroughly cleared my throat before I started hurriedly tossing things down getting ready for the day and something in the airway constricted.I talked to my chiropractor yesterday, who is also a holistic type practitioner and he said the best thing to do in that circumstance is to stay very calm and take tiny tiny breaths until it resolves, which is way easier said than done, but makes sense since that was exactly when it started to get bad, when i started to panic, force myself to breathe and uncontrollably went gasping and hyperventilating for a few minutes. So next time ( well I hope there is no next time..) I'll try that one if I can-- Since this is the second time this happened he also suggested that I might want to get an adrenaline shot (the thing they used in Pulp Fiction)from my regular doctor doctor to keep around. Thanks for your concern everyone, if it ever happenes to you STAY CALMand Rhino, No Elvis sightings, no Jesus sightings, not even Buddha or Joe Dimaggio, no white lights, no tunnels, no nothing..strangely enough just strains of this song dancing around the panic in my head

Thanks everyone-- I'll check with the doc, the more I think about it, the pill itself didnt get lodged but for some reason or other the airway closed up and got phlegmy as it was going down.. like some sort of malfunction in the throat gears then everything closed off . I dont know why, the last time it happened was right around this time of year too, I gotta wonder if its some combination of heavy pollen allergies, plus something going down wrong.. ...or something... either way Im fine ---but Im gonna talk with the doc, I dont want that to happen again
-
yea probably things do go down wrong from time to time though I didnt even have a chance to start my goodbye thread
-
Sh!t that was scary, I just posted a few small post on Greasespot, got up and downed a vitamin pill that got lodged in my throat....bing,,,.....hey I cant breathe....whoa this aint good ....relax.....gasp.....gasp...no breeath...no breath...this is not good at all..... maybe a minute goes by nobodies in my house. so I start trying to pound myself on the back, on the chest....nothing...nothing..I cant phone anyone because I cant talk gasping...gasping...gasping....Im starting to panic.....gasping...is this it?? another 45 seonds or a minute ....and Im not thinking but reacting.....Im really thinking that this could be it... Im not dressed but i run to my neighbors place,..run through the door,, he's not awake, I go into his bedroom..he screams as I wake him up and doesnt know what to do I collapse on the floor sure this is it....then slowly i finally finally get alittle breath and although alittle shaky Im Ok again except with ahuge rasp in my voice ...... Whole thing lasted maybe three minutes or so but thats a helluva long time when you are not breathing and panicking to get your breath.... scareeeee what a way to start the day.... Thats the second time this has happened to me...It happened about 5 or 6 years ago at lunch....what is the right thing to do when all of a sudden you unexpectedly cant breathe..... given this strikes with no warning and you have just a minute or so to figure out what to do this could be important for someone to know someday

Mornin Mark! Work thing gotja a lil riled? sorry--i am still prayin' I hear ya though, Im a smoker, but its like having AIDS today, more and more states I go to dont allow smoking inside any public building. Friends of mine have had to shut down their bars and restaurants because their clientele leaves when some puppeteer makes a law telling them what they can and cant do in their own place of business. In my own town your not supposed to even smoke on the sidewalks. I know some people genuinely are sensitive to smoke so I dont flaunt it, but it gets old being treated like a leper and the root cause of everyone elses misperceived problems and imaginary ailments. I wouldnt be surprised if there are leper colonies for smokers in the not too distant future

goes to my statement about a billion posts ago about it taking 25 guys. Its a weird balance because you do still continue have to develop rookies and young players in that mix who havent yet matured to prepare for your future, and carry older veterans who may be over the hill but can still contribute as well as teach younger ballplayers, hopefully there are also afew in there in their prime years as well. Its a tough balance to achieve Its like an alchemist mixing up some witches brew in a cauldron and trying to find the right mixture that produces magic and not poison, there is a fine line between them It would be fun but difficult to be a GM

I know , I just wanted to make that point, I know in my younger years I had some whacked and delusional notion at times that I could actually drive better when I was buzzed. It can be part of the mental processes of why people end up driving at 105mph or like complete maniacs because they are under the illusion that they are under total control, when they arent, even after just a few drinks. I rarely drink anymore and never if im driving. Too many people Ive known have been killed, starting when i was 8 and the entire family of 5 across the street was wiped out while going out for ice cream on a summer night, later schoolfriends, and still to this day once or twice a year townspeople that I know or their kids. Im alittle sensitive to the subject, sorry if I overspoke

Thats incredibly disheartening but thats also why God delayed the trading deadline until July 31st. sounds like your guys need to do some shuffling and dealing and get some quality middle relief boomps quick Too bad Arroyo cant be in two places at once he was great in that role in 03, and 04, Is he still singin and driving the young girls wild? He should be a lefty--He could almost be the Bill Lee of his generation

around here its actually not called DUI "Driving Under the Influence" but DWI--Driving While Impaired which covers al ot of things besides alcohol ...... y'know I advocate jail, not becuase Im heartless, but because for a lot of these habitual offender people it is the best thing for them. (never mind the community) I know a handful of people that have had to do time for DWI, and although it is difficult and tough to rebuild afterward, it is usually the best thing for them, most often anyone who gets a 2nd or 3rd conviction is in the midst of a downward spiral and it is one way to halt that and turn it around.

It SEEMS minor, but these laws are put into effect for a purpose, Too many people think irrationally that their reaction and response time isnt effected, but even at an .08 the processes, whether they think so or not, are severely impaired. It seems real minor, that is until a family with a bunch of kids gets killed

3rd Time? Its incredibly irresponsible where I am from thats at least a year in jail and lose your license for at least 5 years and usually from 15 to forever(Habitual Offender Status) which may seem harsh but I think it is about right. An automobile driven at 105 mph by someone under the influence is a weapon hoping to find a tragic frontpage story First time here in Massachusetts is lose your license for 90 days and about a thousand dollars in fines, which should wake up anyone 2nd time is jail for two weeks, lose your license for 3 years and probably closer to $5000 in fines and fees 3rd time is very serious, this is no casual drinker making a mistake, but someone who is habitually risking the welfare of innocent people. I know people like this and I like them, but for their own welfare as well as the welfare of others I still think they should do some serious time and possibly never be allowed to drive again. They've had plenty of warnings and only through luck(if they are so lucky) havent killed or maimed anyone.
