We didn't have a gun to our heads but I do remember the teaching in WOW training about "vowing a vow" so we were trained to believe that we were breaking a promise to God if we left the WOW field and thus bad things would happen to us. A mental cage.

I used to sign up for the Water Table to help me lose weight. Then I would regret it, so I would volunteer to serve at the line, and then take my meal when serving was over, to avoid getting caught "breaking my commitment." I got a real long lecture from one of my Corps sisters because I ate extra salad while I was on "Mrs Wierwille's Diet" (that we could no longer call it)

Remember the plurality plate? Dump the food you don't want on the plate for somebody else who did. When we had liver, the plate was full.

I remember how we would mark the butter with a knife to divide it up into even pieces.

I joked about the motorcycle because when I was in res we actually gave him one. We were all forced to "donate" from our measly $20 per month allowance.

It was a joke.

Yes. Lallyo's were hot shots. She was 4th Corps, he 8th. Both ordained. Left their victims bruised and battered in their wake wherever they went. After condemning others for their lack of commitment which was never enough, they themselves made their exit in 2000 by literally disappearing from their then assignment in TX.

I remember those Corps Evaluations in March. First year I was out, March came along and Hallelujah! No meeting!

Now I Move the Word if I carry my Bible from the living room to the den. Or vice-versa.

I felt under pressure to "get someone into the class" in order to feel worthy. I was once told not to show up at twig unless I had a new person with me. (by the Lallyo's)

Moving the Word made me miserable. Then I was obligated and pressured into getting other people into something that was making me miserable, which made me more miserable.

As you said, our allowance in the Corps was not enough - made me remember how I couldn't make a copy of my research paper because I didn't have money to use the friggin copier. They charged us to use the copier!!!!

Not that there's anything wrong with that.. (Just the hypocrisy)
