I was in FL in CA in 1976. The program there was for 6 months, though.

Every year when August comes, I find myself waiting outside the bathroom door for 30 minutes before I go in. Then I have this uncontrollable urge to pitch a tent in the backyard and turn the sprinklers on.

See bolded words above. To me, not "exclusively using our understanding" implies we should not think or reason or believe in our own perceptions, which sets one up perfectly to be controlled. Then the emphasis on obedience adds to that scenario. It's also very vague to me what the alternative to not thinking for oneself is exactly. Letting others think for you?

When I was in TWI, I considered my former life to be of the "old man." Thus, I gave it little thought and considered my previous experiences to be inconsequential. Lately, all these memories keep popping up, as though my life before TWI was so repressed that now it has to come back up. Now I see it as a continuity - before TWI, during TWI, and after TWI. All of it is my life and all of it is valid.

I'm in therapy too. Sometimes I've thought that at my age you'd think I'd be done working things out. But no. It's an ongoing process.

Regarding the lyrics posted that were from the 90's - They're all in the command form. They're not about something, instead they're telling people what to do and what to think. And you can see the "us vs them" mentality in the lyrics. I can't imagine what the melodies must be like.

At least corporate America doesn't pretend it doesn't have privileged people at the top. TWI preached all members of one body and how God is not a respector of persons but in reality it was entirely something else. And to think we put up with it. (at least until we left)

After the long months of cold and winter, we are finally coming up to summer and BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking, as it's the only type of cooking a real man will do, probably because there is some of danger involved. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ, the following chain of events are put into motion: 1) The woman buys the food. 2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes a dessert. 3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand. Here comes the important part: 4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL. 5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery. 6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation. Important again: 7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN. 8) The woman prepares the bread, side dishes, utensils, napkins, condiments and brings them to the table. 9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes. And most important of all: 10) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts. 11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off." And, seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.

Another hint was when twig leaders were told to make sure that the ABS got sent to HQ RIGHT AWAY because Howard Allen said they were LOSING INTEREST on the money that wasn't getting in fast enough.

HQ sounds like one of those "active senior citizens assisted living" communities. I can see why they wouldn't want to leave after not being in "the world." I remember that's why I liked being in residence when I was in the Corps training. I THANK GOD now that I never went to HQ, though I requested it. I can't imagine being there for 30 years. It just seems that with fewer and fewer people in TWI, there would be less reason for people to be at HQ other than just to be there. Kind of like a kibbutz.
