Dot: You are one of my fave people here, and I hope to high heaven I don't P you off, but that juedas dude, man.... talk about calling the kettle black. He calls himself a DR too! where Can I get one of those dr. degree's btw? I'd love to get some valium. If you look up his name in google, the only thing he seems to live on is being this "expert" on The Way. There is NO mention of a church that he's supposedly a reverend of. Maybe someone could clue me in. But so far..I'm not impressed with this guy at ALL. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

I got involved with TWI cause they had answers that NOBODY in my area was teaching at the time. And yes, I will give them that... in certain points..even now. Did they abuse the knowledge they had? YES! The killed it! But I also realize that any other church I would have gotten involved in I would have had major doctrinal problems too. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

I was almost going to add this one but then I remembered that I read the book as a kid and it traumatized me so much I could never watch the movie when it came on. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... -

I LOVED Charlottes Web!(and the book) Oh that was sad! I forgot to add Born Free and that movie with Sigourney Weaver and the gorillas. OMG when her gorilla friend got beheaded I almost puked. Especially since it's based on a true story and it really happened. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... -
Lifted you brought up some excellent points. thank you. Garth: LOL I swear at first I didn't know who you were talking about! I was scratching my head.(I see your original finally appeared. Mine took awhile too.) That's why I copied R***'s post over in mine. Cause by the time it popped up in my mailbox I saw that it was several days old and way at the top of this thread, and I didn't want anyone to miss it. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

Bambi. The book was even WORSE. A lot of that stuff in the book went over my head as a kid. They didn't show it in the movie though. Oh and Turner and Hooch when Hooch died at the end made me cry. And Cat People with Natassia Kinski where she's a cat in a cage at the end and her lover comes and scratches her and looks so helplessly at her and she's gazing back with that hypnotic gaze. Boo hoo! ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... -
Well, for one, we don't have a choice between life or death. Personally, I wouldn't WANT to live forever in this world. Wouldn't that be horrible? And I DON'T believe that Christians are the only ones who are going to heaven. But speaking for myself, I need a saviour. Sometimes I have gotten mad at my mom for bringing me into this world. And mad at God for bringing my soul forth. So we are here, and we will die, and the bible makes the most sense to me. I could question things from here to eternity lindyhopper, and I have, it's brought me little peace. I need someone to trust in, desperately. Someone who knows what's going on, even if it seems futile and screwed up to me. I choose to try to build that trust in God. And I am trying, underline trying, not to dwell to much on things are beyond my grasp or control I suppose. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... Hi Robi. You're post just popped up in my mailbox. What you just said seems much, much, more on track than the term "cult group." Thank you very much for the input. Makes much better sense to me! PS. Do all you Southerners have a y'all key on your keyboard? I know I know you can me for that but I couldn't resist. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

I agree that if the trinity is supposed to be such a major point of being a Christian, don't you think at least the WORD itself would appear in the bible? That's a word that was added and as I recall there is something in Revelation about not doing stuff like that. Or at the least, it would be made very clear that it is imperitive to believe Jesus is God in order to have salvation? I was raised Catholic and didn't even know that was what I was supposed to believe in. Goey, interesting response you got from Matt Slick. (what a name) So even if they believe that not believing in the trinity means that you are not Christian, It still seems like narrow minded logic to call it a cult. Would never hold up in Court. Oldies: yes, I am beginning to redo my thinking about this whole "cult" word myself. I believe religions can be abusive, manipulative, controlling and damaging, to various degrees. But it IS hypocritical not to hold everyone to the same standard. Then you just start making excuses for mainstream religions, which could be held under the same scrutiny. I remember hearing teachings, even on the 700 club, where they said that God was always in the minority. The law of the land and religion was always someone else. Well what makes that so different today? Why should the mainstreamers be the only ones right today? I think if Jesus were here today he would call us ALL a bunch of clueless hypocrites. Well, just my opinion I suppose. Geez what great replies. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... deleting, this board is going goofy on me. Firgures it would be on a thread for you Wacky. -
Oh Hope that's cool! I don't feed cats either. I learned my lesson. They probably have about 10 homes they go to mooching off of. But I did do my duty when I found one half starved. I paid the vet bills (it also had fleas and mites) and found it a home. The lady I bought my rott from has a cat that's half bobcat. Now that cat is cool. It thinks it's a dog. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

mj that's terrible! I would never own a bird and cat together. I think that's just terrible for the bird to live with that. Birds and dogs can make nice nice together, but I've heard too many stories about the cat eating the bird. I mean they prowl around the neighborhoods, stalking neighbors bird baths and feeders. That's what gets people angry. One suburb near me actually has a leash law for cats. Which may have been the first of it's kind in the country. I don't think many people actually follow it though. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

Okay, I checked out one of the links that diaz left, and honestly, this could be said for just about anybody. comments of mine are in parenthesis. 1. Authoritarian pyramid structure with authority at the top (okay, this can even be said with the smallest business) 2. Charismatic or messianic leaders ..Messianic meaning they either say they are God OR that they alone can interpret the scriptures the way God intended.....the leaders are self-appointed... (yeah, well, these guys may not come out and say it out loud like that, but you go to any religious church and the preacher will most likely ACT like they know what the scriptures really are supposed to mean. Look at all the doctrinal debates.) 3. Deception in recruitment and/or fund raising (where ever there is money, there is the possibility of deception, no matter how good the charity) 4. Isolation from society -- not necessarily physical isolation like on some compound in Waco, but this can be psychological isolation -- the rest of the world is not saved, not Christian, not transformed..whatever.. -- the only valid source of feedback and information is the group (many mainstream religions feel this way) 5. Use of mind control techniques (what is mind control is debateable. I've heard SITing is a form of mind control. Which I think is nonsense.) So see, I really think these points are very debatable. And certainly not reliable. Very subjective to private interpretation. And they can be very manipulative as well. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

Lindy: Interesting observation. Although I think that if most of these so called "satanists" knew who they were really worshipping, they wouldn't worship it. satan hates everybody. johniam: I just wanted to add, that I think you are also on target when you said that the reason the mainstreamers pick on some of the cults because they are too small and powerless to fight back with any impact. CAN sure opened up a HUGE can of worms with the Scientologists. They had people with some real money who could fight back. But then, the Mormons are picked on, and they certainly are a big group. So who knows. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

I am so happy I brought this up, because it's been on my mind for a long time. And these responses are wonderful. Very thought provoking. Not to get off topic, but I really don't want to get into Catholic bashing. I'm sort of defensive over my mom, who's Roman Catholic, and I think many of there more "enlightened bretheren" could take a lesson from them in terms of works, and patience etc. One lady I knew who was very sweet, and who I was becoming friends with, a few years ago, actually started picking on my mom and her beliefs. Boy was that the wrong thing to do. I told her if she didn't like the Catholics, to write the Pope, or the Cardinal in Chicago, but leave my mom the hell alone. I never heard from her again, and I think she should have apologized to me. Anyway, I think johniam is correct about these "cult experts" not saying what they really think about Jews and Moslims. And I would have to add the RC church as well, because they (the cult experts) would think that the Pope is acting as Jesus. I mean, if it's within their own "christian definition" of what defines a cult, there either the biggest hypocrites in the world or just lying about what they really think. Well, it seems that way anyway. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... Dot: Thanks! My dog groomer doesn't do it on her so I was just wondering if that was okay. Thanks for the info! Larry! ROTFL! When I asked that I almost added (God I hope Larry doesn't read this thread) but I didn't add it cause I didn't think you'd be here. Then I see that ole craggy Winston Churchel face..omg I almost died. OH, and Dot, my rottie is a big chicken at heart. Really. A tough little pug could scare her away. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

Oakspear, I see your point as well. Very well thought out. And your right. some people accusing others of being in cults were basing it on flimsy evidence, and being hypocritial as well. Absolutely on the money with that one. It's been so long I forgot I lived through some of this stuff as well. PS just for the record diaz: I DO believe Amway uses mind control techniques, as other secular businesses do. I've had experiences with some of these sales programs in my younger years, and there is a similarity. But, that's just my opinion. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

PS Dot: What do you think of anal squeezes? I knew one dog groomer who did them with every dog that came in the place, but this dog groomer I bring Nico to doesn't do them at all. ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...

I totally understand what diaz is saying about the pattern in abusive organizations. There IS a similar pattern. What I am talking about is the "Christian" definition that I find so bizzare and hypocritical. This is an excerpt from www.ex-cult.org. From the link, "identifying a cult" ************************************************ CHRISTIAN DEFINITION CULT - Any group which deviates from Biblical, orthodox, historical Christianity. e.i. They deny the Deity of Christ; His physical resurrection; His personal and physical return to earth and salvation by FAITH alone. This definition only covers those groups which are cults within the Christian religion. It does not cover cults within other world religions such as Islam and Hinduism. Nor does it cover Psychological, Commercial or Educational cults which do not recognize the Bible as a source of reality. ************************************************ This kind of stuff is all over the web. What I'm saying is there IS a difference between the "Christian" definition of a cult, and the secular definition. And I STILL think it's hypocritical. By there very own definition than the Roman Catholics would most certainly be the biggest Christian cult in the world. Since they (as far as I know) do not believe in salvation from grace alone. And why is that the definition for a "cult" within the Christian realm, but not others? Even from a Christian standpoint? If other religions deny the deity of Christ (Jews,Hindu's Muslims etc.) than why is it they are not cults because they are not within the "Christian religion?" I think it's total doubletalk. Okay, so let me get this straight. By those terms, if I believe in God, but don't believe in Jesus, I'm not in a cult. But if I believe in God, and I believe in Jesus, but I don't believe that Jesus is God, than I AM in a cult. OH! That makes sense! --> I don't know..maybe I'm not getting something here, but it doesn't sit right with me a'tall PS. I should add here, that when they mean, denying the deity, they mean denying Jesus is God. They don't mean deity in the sense of the word that means "good" or "revered". ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler... Isn't it grand to have a dog groomer at GS? I've given Nico baths outside with a hose in the summer, but I prefer bringing her to the dog groomer, he's wonderful with her. (a guy, btw) I WON'T cut her nails! I'm way to squeamish for that! bowtwi I would love to see your puppy! I hope you post a pic soon! Gee, if I were a two dog woman and could swing another dog, I'd get me a doberman as well. But one dog is a plenty! ...It's hard to be humble when you own a Rottweiler...
